Cafe Gnosa is a brilliant historic gem. A beautiful old cafe that you can instantly feel its popularity simply by the number of locals who frequent it. Super polite, fast and efficient service, with a great range of food to cater for all tastes. The cakes in the display case had me drooling in anticipation and they certainly like to give you a generous slice. I loved and highly recommend this old gem and will definitely return when I’m next in Hamburg.

Service was very ''German'' standard. Not particularly friendly but not particularly rude. But the food was good. It's kinda ''rare'' in Germany to serve temperature-hot food, but the food was very hot, which was excellent. Atmosphere was good, loved the paintings there. Cozy and comfy setting.

the interior gives you vienna vibes in the queer quarter of hamburg with amazing cakes. always worth to stop by for some increase of blood sugar. my favorite is „apple schmand“

Fantastic place. Can’t recommend more! My absolute favorite in Hamburg. It’s already a tradition to come here every time I’m in the city. Beautiful interior, very cute terrace. Perfect for people watching. Fantastic cakes every time. Never disappointed. My last time favorite was Libecker Nuss.🍰 Also very nice people working there. 💕

Cafe Gnosa is a nice place to grab a coffee. ▪️Decided to visit the Cafe on Sunday, 6 PM ish and it was not crowded nor empty. The atmosphere was very chill and I was able to get a seat quickly. ▪️I ordered a cafe latte and a tiramisu cake slice. The coffee was good, the tiramisu cake was alright. ▪️The staff is super friendly and sweet! ▪️It's a wonderful place to chill alone or with friend. I would highly recommend visiting the cafe and grabbing a warm cup of coffee on a rainy day 🌦️

My fave café in Hamburg. I love the vibe. Friendliest people in Germany! I visit here once a month... It feels like home already! The staff here are perfect, some people who give bad review here are shameless and entitled...

Playing games is forbidden, because apparently people stay too long then (we had a card game literally). I thought it was a joke at first. Still confused about it (some people also sit and talk for a long time?). The way the waiter said it was forbidden sounded a bit rude. Food was good. I left in a meh mood.

Dropped by at this place for a weekend brunch, and we absolutely loved it. The brunch collection was great, with options for authentic German food. The cafe has a vintage feel to it, that adds to the experience. We had a farmer's breakfast, and a plate of Maultaschen, both of which were very tasty. The staff were attentive when we needed them but otherwise left us alone to our conversations. Would highly recommend the place. An ideal weekend morning is a stroll along the Alster, combined with a brunch at this cafe.

Yelp
Love this place. First time I was here a few years ago and again this summer while visiting friends in Hamburg. I was trying to find plum cake and found it here. Had some delicious German cake and coffee with great friends. Great relaxed ambiance!

Yelp
The food is absolutely delicious and high quality. The service is very kind and approachable. The ambiance is good. I loved everything about this place. I had the Nordic breakfast and lemon pie. The best lemon pie I have ever tasted. The breakfast was really good. The prices are perfect. It's really rare when I have no critique.

Yelp
Went here because we saw online that it had some of the best German cheesecake and my boyfriend is obsessed with German cheesecake. They in fact did not have German cheesecake, but more of an American style cheesecake which was slightly disappointing, but to no fault of the business. They indeed did have the best cakes that I have ever eaten- though it was not the cheesecake. I had a rhubarb streusel cake which was absolutely delicious. The ambiance is café-like with comfy couches and chairs in the back room and some outdoor seating in the front. My friends also ordered some of their food items which they were surprised with how delicious they were- the vegetarian curry and the potatoes with Béchamels sauce. Yum! Overall a great experience. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
Brunch! All day brunch! :) Had one of the best brunches in Germany, thus far. Ordered the Farmer's Breakfast omelette: a huge helping of eggs, fresh sliced potatoes, and bacon mixed into the omelette, and the add-on mixed salad for €8.70! So delicious and fresh, I'm so thrilled with my choice! The atmosphere is comfortable, with outdoor seating. Note: fresh orange juice is expensive at €3.90 for half a wine glass worth!

Yelp
A charming cafe just five minutes walk from the Central Station. You enter through heavy doors and then again through maroon curtains. Inside, it's cozy and welcoming - a bit cramped, but it's part of the charm after leaving the cold winter outside. We had a late lunch and tea. The tea was plentiful and complemented by a small sugar cookie. My soup of the day was a leek and ham kind, which was wonderfully tasteful and warmed me up inside out. The ample ham kept me full past dinner time, even with the one bowl of soup. My dad had a quiche, which came with a salad, and 4-layered nut cake. I saw that many people stopped by for dessert-to-go as well. I would return to catch up with friends!

Yelp
I had brunch at this delightful little cafe this morning. Fabulous vintage decor, friendless staff great atmosphere. I had a nice conversation in English with a friendly waiter who provided me with an English menu. I chose the Pauli breakfast and was extremely happy. Cheeses, meats, breads, cucumber, cherry tomato, orange juice. Wow. I added bacon and orange juice. So much fresh, scrumptious food! I recommend this little cafe and if back in Germany I'd happily return.

Yelp
The cakes and desserts here are amazing. There is such a wonderful variety and every single one looks delicious. The environment is also very cozy and welcoming, the aesthetic is great. My only complaint is that the teas are very overpriced. Paying 4.40 euros for a cup of tea is crazy to me.

Yelp
Scrambled eggs with North Sea itty bitty tiny shrimp! Local speciality! OMG! On buttered "toast"! Awesome. Amazingly delicious asparagus soup -since tis the season. Huge turkey salad. Great value! Best service. Outside street tables are fun. Rainbow neighborhood.

Yelp
When staying in a hotel in Hamburg, one does not need a hotel breakfast, really. The city has so many bakeries and cafes that provide brunch / breakfast everywhere. If you don't have time and don't care much about the early meal intake, you can just head out to U-bahn station and get your croissant and coffee from there, no biggie. However, I'm the kind of person who would like to sit down, hang out in a cafe, eat proper breakfast (read: not (just) bread) when I'm traveling. Obviously, this cafe comes up in a list of breakfast hangout near St. Georg. Gnosa is like old school Parisian style cafe. It has more room in the back with marble table and comfortable lounge chair. They have breakfast all day (did you read that --- ALL DAY) and they have their own Gnosa special menu. I chose the scrambled egg with ham (rührei mit schinke) that came with two toasts and butter and orange juice while Richard S ordered Italian breakfast with bread and sliced meats. My scrambled egg was good, but not as good as I had in Mutterland, so that place kinda ruins it for me here, while the Italian bread looked a bit boring despite it was loaded with so much bread and meat (egg and orange juice included). I think it's pretty ok breakfast for the price. My omelette is 4.90 euro, so I can't really ask for more than what I have. Service is ok. At first the waitress was sort of throw the menu to our tables but that was also because she was busy serving other table. Still, I would expect she would wait a bit with bringing the menu instead of just tossing them to our table.

Yelp
If you are in Hamburg, don't miss out on this Cafe. The food and service are supurb. My friends and I discovered this cafe on our first night in the city. It was so good we returned on our last evening in Germany. Their tomato soup should not be missed. It is well-seasoned and the dollop of cream on the top mixes wonderfully. We each had different main dishes, all were good. On our second visit I had the bacon quiche which not only had a wonderful filling but also a delicious crust. I'm usually particular about my pie crust and this one was better than I've had in a long time (other than my own). :-) Speaking of pie crust, I can't forget about dessert. When you walk into the restaurant you pass a display case of wonderful creations of their pastry chef. Since it was the day after my birthday we were still celebrating and all had something different. One of my friends had the apple strudel which was far better than any I've tasted before. My other friend had the nut torte which had its ends dipped in dark chocolate. What a great combination. I had the rhubarb pie. Again the wonderful crust, tart rhubarb and whatever the wonderful creme it was suspended in all were wonderful. A good tip: if you get the strudel or the rhubarb, order the whipped cream. It completes it.

Yelp
I went to café gnosa today & I had an extremely positive experience. I ordered the kleines frühstück st. georg (without the meat) & also rührei von 3 eiern w/ toast. I was brought my scrambled eggs, 2 slices of white toast, 2 slices of schwarzbrot, 1 roll (brötchen), a place of cheeses, strawberry jam, butter, a few grapes, and some little salady garnish thing. and coffee! it was a lot of food, too much for me to finish, and the whole thing was less than 10 euro. and it was delicious! and they serve breakfast until 4 pm every day. awesome!

Yelp
This cafe serves excellent, home-made cake! We tried already more than 8 different cakes and there is not a single one we didn't like! But be aware, it is also always packed with people but definitely worth while to wait! Tip: try the big hot chocolate with the cake (Schale Schokolade)

Yelp
We found Cafe' Gnosa while searching for the best local Konditerei in Hamburg. They have the combination of friendly staff, comfortable surroundings and Excellent Wonderful Kuchen. Oma's Brombeertraum is easily the overall winner. We returned in the evening to try out their Cafe Menu. We were shown to the back room as the sidewalk tables and cafe tables were all full. Everyone we passed seemed to be having a good time. We stayed for almost three hours and hardly realized the passing of time. Our waitress was attentive, helpful, funny; a real gem. She seemed fine that we were taking up her table for so long. We had two of the specials, the quiche, cauliflower potato au gratin and a large salad. The food was great, finishing with cake and brandy. I will make a return trip to Hamburg for this experience alone.

Yelp
The only reason I really came to this place was because of all the high ratings it got on here. So one morning my boyfriend and I decided to walk over and see what the fuss is all about. Maybe we had much higher expectations and found the place underwhelming. We ordered the two 'st.georg' breakfasts and two cappuccinos. The cappuccinos were kind of small and the breakfast was pretty decent. The st.georg breakfast came with two cold cut meats and two slices of cheese along with a tomato and cucumber and jelly/marmalade. There was enough to feed your morning hunger and not feel over stuffed. So in this café you pretty much get what you paid for, well except when it comes to the drinks. They have indoor and outdoor seating and offer you blankets if you sit outside. Overall pretty decent place to go!

Yelp
I love having breakfast here with my bae. And we haven't even tried the cakes yet. The breakfast selection already does it for us. Great atmosphere reminding one of the café culture in vienna.

Yelp
Product is very good of quality but when they are busy... not as flexible in offering one a table for two and this is not explained in a professional way... However the product itself is very good

Brittany J.

Yelp
Loved this place! Super chic and retro inside! Was a bit of a wait. I called to see if they took reservations and I was told no but when we got there we noticed many tables were being cleaned and then a reserved sign was sat on the table. So I'm not so sure about that reservation part. But I would def go back. And they also have the medium sized cliqot bottles for mimosas and not just the large.

Yelp
A cosy, original art-deco bar and restaurant where you can get from breakfast until dinner, and cakes in the afternoon. Very good price/quality ratio: there is a large choice of salads, and a few classic entrees like lamb filet in rosemary juice and couscous, or veal stew (around 11 EUR, and that's about the most expensive on the menu). Very friendly service. One caveat: this is a place where homo couples feel at home..

Yelp
Originally (in the 90's) times as meeting place for men, who love men meant, is the Gnosa today in addition, from Heteros gladly visited. A very charming mechanism from the fifty`s, and famous, baked cakes and a good breakfast invite to staying

Yelp
Back in Germany after many years in US. We went looking for a breakfast place for.a casual Tueaday morning. Found Gnosa - everything you need for a great morning. Friendly and service minded staff, great food and a spectacular atmosphere. Absolutely recommended.

Yelp
The cakes here are delicious! I found the food to be edible but lacking in flavor. We only had the boiled potatoes and the cucumber soup so maybe their other dishes are better. The hot drinks are too small for the price you pay.

Yelp
Had about the best breakfast I had in Germany while here. Many options available, including a good vegetarian option that my sister had.
