Café Gundel, located in the heart of Heidelberg's old town, is a very stylish café and bakery with a variety of delicious cakes and pastries. You can also find some traditional cakes from this region. The prices are a bit high, but I think they're worth it.

Absolutely in love with this place, there is so much choice its hard to decide which thing to pick! Cakes, tarts, sweet and savory breads... The prices are affordable and the personnel is very nice. I had a slice of berries and cream cake that was just heavenly and came back the next day for a lemon and yogurt cake that was just as delicious!

This is where the most delicious apple strudel happened to me. You can come back here for him 🤭 The waiter was very nice, unfortunately I didn’t remember her name. you can sit at a table overlooking the castle or indoors, and you can also buy all types of desserts and bread in the bakery and pastry shop.

Very popular bakery in the middle of Heidelberg selling a wide range of delicious cakes and breads. Be prepared to join the line and wait! But it’s worth it.

This place has the most beautiful and delicious sweets. Their sweets can be gifted as souvenirs of Heidelberg. Although it was crowded, still their service was wonderful. Must visit when you are in Heidelberg.

Self service cafe. Only cash accepted(. Nice and cozy atmosphere. Fresh flowers on table. Apfelstrudel with vanilla sauce is quite new to me, tastes good. Latte on the glass, not in the cup

Our favorite cafe/bakery in Heidelberg! 🥐🥖🍰☕️ This bakery is always very busy— because they have so many tasty treats and breads! Before we leave Heidelberg, we always stop here to grab some treats to take home. If you’re in the mood for something sweet, this is the place to go! Very friendly staff and they do speak English. The shop is located near the base of the castle so it’s in a great spot.

EXTREMELY RUDE young woman behind the service counter. Food looks great, but when you get the wrong order, and then the counter IGNORES you the food can't overcome the nasty taste in your mouth from the experience. Find another bakery!!

Yelp
We came here on a Friday afternoon and sat outside. It was a warm and nice day and the place was packed. We waited almost 20 minutes for someone to take our order and finally took initiative to find a menu and call the waitress over. We ordered Kugel (ball) one with white and one with dark chocolate cover plus coffee and tea. The cake was amazing: Nougat inside, then marzipan filling, then cake layer, and the covered in chocolate. Yum. Definitely worth the wait.

Yelp
After passing by the window and seeing the delicious treats, I had to stop in for a couple. I got one of the big chocolate balls that has shortbread type cake in the middle and a delicious hazelnut filling (not sure if these are the true flavors, but that's what my unprofessional taste buds decided). I also got a long cookie sandwich that had creme in the middle and was dipped in chocolate on both sides - this was my least favorite treat on vacation. It was dry and didn't have a lot of flavor. However, the first treat I mentioned? Awesome! And definitely worth the trying despite all the butter and sugar that I'm sure went into making it! Service was awesome. The line was long, but it moved fast. I'd definitely stop in again!

Yelp
This place had some unique pastries but the cakes were a little dry and the cream inside the green ball wasn't good - like whipped shortening - I guess using whipped cream would reduce their shelf life. Also the staff looked run down and werent friendly - like, not even on speaking terms with the customers style unfriendly. They must need a vacation.

Yelp
Okay so we came here to get some of their delicious treats. We were traveling on a Viking river cruise. We thought we'd take to go then realized we had time to sit and enjoy for a few. Well PEOPLE that are not local to the area, like us, please know that they are extremely rude!!!!!!! Apparently you have to pay to sit and enjoy your treat. Not A Problem. However the server literally screamed at us and said get up right now in front of the entire Resteraunt. I asked to speak to a manager and he didn't have time. They have no concept of guest/ customer service. There are several other bakeries to choose from! Just sayin'

Yelp
This is a very quaint little bakery in the 'real' Altstadt of Heidelberg overlooking the Castle on the hill above. Traditional Cakes, Pastries and Breads to take-away or to enjoy in the cafeteria in the neighboring building. Ample seating in-doors and even more outside. Expect to pay 'Tourist rates' for specialist products and gifts but other than that the prices are very reasonable for the quality.

Yelp
Very rude service. I didn't notice there is seating area in the back, so I ordered to go. The server, an old woman, was extremely rude and tell me to leave once I sit down and was inflexible to change my order to dine-in. I would give a 0 star if I can.

Yelp
The bakery offering was wonderful. The location was super. Everything was fine until we were ready to order and get our selections. The lady serving us was as rude as I have ever experienced. Maybe it was our American English accent or a bad day but her attitude was horrible. She seemed completely disgusted by us just being there. Tossing our plates at us, spilling our coffee all over the table and just walking away without replacing it or cleaning it up. We are a quiet and pleasant family (4 adults) and these was not provoked as I think she treats many customers like this. Aside from that server, it was a great cafe/bakery and helped wrap up our day of visiting the Christmas markets.

Yelp
We had coffee, lunch, and a sweet treat from here. It is one of the oldest bakeries in Heidelberg and was quite packed with customers. The service was timely and friendly. We had quiche and some other dishes. All were good but not mind-blowing. The plain coffee was like acid, the cappuccino was delicious. The best treat was something that translates to Heidelberg Cobblestone - some layers of cake surrounded by marzipan and chocolate with a white chocolate tile on top -- like a large petit four.

Yelp
Very popular cafe in the Old City (Altstadt) of Heidelberg. If the weather is nice enough to permit sitting outside there are nice views of the trees in the square and surrounding building facades. The cheesecake is only fair compared to German-style cheesecakes from other bakeries, however the strawberry cake (Erdbeerkuchen) is very good.
