Something happened at Cafe Habana that left me feeling very perplexed. I ordered a salmon burger with no bun, and the waitress asked me, "how would you like that cooked?". I wanted to say, "cook it enough-not under, not over." Who wants fish that's under or overcooked? Nobody! Well, unless it's supposed to be undercooked like seared ahi. Anyways, I actually said, "The salmon?", and the waitress said nonchalantly, "yeah, like medium, medium-well, well-done." So, I said, "umm, medium, I guess." It was a middle-of-the-road answer, for I didn't want sushi nor a filet that was dry as cardboard. Can you see why I was perplexed?
The salmon was cooked nicely-medium, like I requested. It came with tasty fries. DH went with chicken tinga tacos, which were pretty good but a bit spicy.
Service was friendly albeit a bit aloof-what do you expect in the heart of Malibu? The ambiance is very relaxed and cozy. The patio is lovely. They had sports on the TV at the bar, very relaxed atmosphere.
This is not really Cuban fare- it's more Mexican with some Cuban dishes like a Cubano sandwich and plantains.
Parking is behind the restaurant in the Lumberyard. In the afternoon, the lot might be guarded and blocked by security. You just need to tell him where you're going, and he'll open the driveway for you.
