"Serious Brews in the Lively Niederdorf Overlooking a fountain in the busy, cobblestoned Niederdorf, Café Henrici could have coasted on its location alone. Yet, it stays true to its namesake—Christian Friedrich Henrici, the librettist behind Bach’s Coffee Cantata—and pays serious attention to its brews. Smooth, full-bodied espressos are made from Brazilian single origin beans, the drip coffee is pour-over style, and—a rarity in Zurich—there are even cold brews. The sprawling café has about a dozen large tables—and even more outside—but if a quick pick-me-up is the thing, there are a handful of stools around a stainless steel counter overlooking the Dalla Corte espresso machine."

Yet another one of my favourite places in Zürich, mainly for atmosphere, but also for the mind blowing Apfelstrudel with Vanilla sauce. That day I brought my bestie and we had baked goat cheese salad (baked in filo dough) and hummus. The salad was pretty darn tasty with the combination of sweet and salty flavours popping and hummus very comforting. Cafe Henrichi has my outmost recommendation :)

A very nice Cafe! Lovely atmosphere, we sat outside, great vibes. Service was great, quick and friendly waiter. The dessert was really amazing, standout! Absolutely recommend this place 👍🏻

Google
A wonderful cafe in Zurich's old town. They offer a variety of flammenkuchen -we tried the Alpine version, paired with a cappuccino and a hot chocolate and everything was great. The service was friendly and efficient, and the cozy atmosphere made it the perfect spot to relax after a walk through the city. We’ll definitely be back.

Very good service. This is what you are looking for when in need of a sweet breakfast, coffee, beer. Prices are reasonable for Zurich and the service was fast.

Google
Really nice place. The food was delicious. Definitely the best Tarte Flambee I ever had. The service was nice and dessert delicious 😋 sorry forgot to take a picture of the main course :)

Google
This place has the best hot chocolate I have tried in Zürich! Also the Apple cake was delicious! I can recommend to go just for that. The atmosphere was also super mix and we loved the music that was playing. The only point that was not great was the service: they were friendly but forgot us several times.

Below average food. Most things not available or out of stock. Not willing to accommodate dietary requirements even properly.

Cafe Henrici is inside the old town of Zurich, the staff is friendly and the coffee is good. It’s spacious and cozy! Recommend it!

Yelp
Beautiful location and ambiance. Delightful spicy hot chocolate and a cappuccino made to perfection. You can smell the beans roasting here-that's what drew us in. Our server was inviting, personable and professional. Normally I don't like eating out for breakfast because I love to make it myself, but this felt homemade in that it was prepared individually and with a noticeable intention to satisfy.

Yelp
This place deserves 5 stars simply for the amazing humans that work there. My daughter and I were outside the restaurant when she quickly became ill. We headed in to use the restroom and as soon as we did she started to get faint. The waiter dropped everything to assist her, practically carrying her, to a safe alcove where she could lie down. Every worker that saw her asked her if she needed help and gave her water and coke in case she was in need of sugar. They continued to check on her and were so helpful and so compassionate. We were strangers and not even customers. If this is how they treated us imagine how they must treat their customers? 10 stars.

Yelp
It was a warm summer day when we walked in for brunch and the waitress told us there was only indoor seating available. She showed us our table and to our relief they had ceiling fans and very well ventilated indoors :)) Our server was very friendly. We ended up getting caffe latte (Amazing!), hot chocolate, a side of Alp cheese and bagel sandwich (delish!) Glad we stopped by.

Yelp
A popular cafe for chatting over a drink while people watching the busy square. Limited menu, but the flammkuchen is a unique offering and a must try. Has a funky vibe, so it's not purely for tourists. Flammkuchen Alpino: Love the backstory of this being invented by Germanic farmers in Alsace. It may look like a pizza, but it's no pizza, it's something uniquely of itself. Very thin dough, almost like a freshly baked cracker. Most pieces partially shatter in your mouth. A moderate amount of melted cheese covering the middle, so the edges are plain. A sparse amount of bacon and even fewer potato pieces. So delicate and delicious! Good for a light meal for one person if you want to save room for dessert. Apfelstrudel: Saw this the pastry counter and to get it. Firm cooked apple cubes in very nice seasonings. Wrapped in a very thin dough, almost like the thin flammkuchen dough. And the warm vanilla cream sauce is a must since it tastes amazing against the apfelstrudel.

Yelp
Incredibly tasty flat bread style Flambee. We had the Alpino and it was excellent. The goat cheese salad was very good, the goat cheese was warm with a crispy outside. The service was very friendly and welcoming. I had the shakerato and it was the perfect icy espresso drink on a hot day!

Yelp
I like to come here if I'm feeling really lazy, not in a rush and am in this area of the Old Town, yearning for a cappuccino. And their flammkuchen (tarte flambée) is not so shabby either if you're feeling hungry. Otherwise, I really prefer not to come here if I'm not feeling lazy and not feeling like I have all the time in the world to burn, because many of the times the service is what'd you expect on a lazy summer Sunday - but it happens all year around. Just like the other day, if I'm in this neighborhood, I take a step in and if I don't get serviced (given a menu or a glance of acknowledgment that they will come in a bit) in the first 5 minutes (which happens often enough)... then I calmly walk out and walk towards Grande (which is about a 5-7 min walk towards Central) for what I think is the best cappuccino in this area - and the service at Grande never feels like a lazy warm Sunday. I'd figured, by the time I walk over there and sit down, I'll be serviced sooner anyway.

Yelp
This place is modeled after an American-style coffee shop--but run by Swiss people--so it has elements of local flair, such as red wine and Flammkuchen. Tuesday nights showcase live music from up-and-coming bands. Unfortunately, given my crazy work schedule, I have only been able to make it one time for the weekly 8 pm performance. Once the band started, it was a bit too loud for conversation, but that's fine because we were supposed to be listening to the band anyway. Live music is always fun, so I would recommend giving this place a look-see if you happen to be in the Zürich old town Niederdorf.

Yelp
This place and its surroundings are gem. You sip fresh brewed coffee and people watch. I also got the apple pie tarter with vanilla ice cream.

Yelp
We love this place. The service is excellent and we like the food. It's a nice spot in old town in Zurich very nice place to stop by.

Yelp
We enjoyed having lunch at Henrici in Altstadt Zürich. While we were exploring the city, we decided to try Henrici for lunch to recharge & shelter us from cold Nov weather. Once we walked in, we felt the coziness of this little gem in Old town. Food was delicious & the service was friendly. We highly recommend this little gem while visiting/staying in Zürich.

Yelp
Beware of the racist waitress (as others have pointed out). There were multiple times in our interaction (ordering, paying, and asking for the bathroom) when I had to repeat myself 5 times in order to get an answer. When I spoke, she put a finger on her mouth and mocked me. Interestingly, she had no trouble understanding other American customers. It was quite offensive. Better bring your white friends because otherwise she pretends she doesn't understand you (even though you're a native English speaker).

Yelp
This cafe gets very crowded and seatings are very tightly spaced but interestingly we were able to find a table with a baby carrier and the server accommodated us well. I liked the vibrant energy of the cafe so if you are looking for a quite place, this isn't the one. I liked they made muslie by putting all ingredient separately so I can mix them or eat them separately. Average zurich price for coffee and others but a bottle of water was really over priced as it was 6 CHF!!

Yelp
Excellent ambiance a hideaway from the rainy cold weather of Zurich!! I would highly recommend it to anyone around d old town Zurich.

Yelp
I got the Alpino flammkuchen (CHF 22.50) which was an uber-thin-crust topped with potato, bacon and Swiss cheese blend. In essence, it was gratinated potatoes with lardons on a crisp wafer. It was pretty more-ish and I finished it (it was about 10 to 12 inches in diameter) in a matter of 15 minutes. I also got an espresso bicerin, (CHF 7/-) which was an espresso-based beverage with dark chocolate melted into the coffee and blended with steamed milk. The espresso was extracted just fine. I also liked the richness of the chocolate, milk and coffee that was surprisingly not overwhelming. However, it was not rave-worthy; cafe mochas served elsewhere would probably do just as well for a fraction of the price. Service was average. At the start, my server told me with good intentions that the flammkuchen should not be consumed away from the restaurant i.e. no takeouts for this particular dish. I deferred to his opinion and chose a table inside the restaurant to sit at. While the food and drink service was very fast, tableside service was not particularly great as most of the servers focused on the crowds that were sitting outdoors. Maybe the solution is to sit outside... but I dislike breathing in second-hand smoke. So, if Henrici is your choice and you are okay with passive smoking, sitting outside will probably result in better overall service.

Yelp
Henrici is a really cool cafe/bar that has an awesome, warm, and hip vibe to it. It's located in the middle of niederdoerfli, which is fun! I've only been for lunch, but it's always been great. One time, I was with some friends from my German class, and our waiter had a fun time with us. The Flammkuchen is always delicious. I've had a vegetarian one, Mexican, and I tried the Parma. All three were really great! The Mexican was a bit sweeter because of the corn and choice of cheese, and the Parma had more of a bite to it because of the cheese and ham. They're all different, but all delicious! I like that they're a lighter option compared to pizza, also. Their chai latte was equally appealing and oh so good.

Miranda K. D.

Yelp
I'm a regular here. So if I write the staff is simply adorable I guess it must be the truth :) It is my go to place for cappuccino or fresh fruit juice in the mornings. I also like the Moroccan mint lemonade. It is huge, Delicious and so refreshing. Just perfect in summer. It can be hard to resist the tasty smell when others order the Flammkuchen. Don't try too hard to resist, they are really good. I think it's every Tuesday that they have some music night with live band.
google avatar

Ulrich W.

Yelp
The coffee is great. Obviously the best in town, according to the media reviews on the wall. I like especially the life music thuesday evenings. A bit like sitting in the living room of somebody, trying to understand and following, what the artists want to tell you how, and watching how the others might perceive it. Another week another story. Audience very international, comfortable and relaxed ambience. Delicious chocolate cake, cookies and brownies to go with the coffee. Also main dishes. Central location in Niederdörfii.
google avatar

Yelp
Its a cute lil café that offers a wide variety of pastries and savory dishes. The price is quite okay and the staff is always super friendly. It may be in a touristy part of an expensive city but I still felt like it's pretty authentic. Swiss people eat here too.
google avatar

Marko C.

Yelp
Very expensive with asshole waitress. Asked about the flammkucuen twice and she gave me very short annoyed answers and then when I ordered it she rudely remarked that it's not lunch time and they don't serve it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ was reluctant to pay 20CHF for it anyway so I left.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice place for breakfast, very cozy and good service. Ordered the two eggs, broccoli quiche and the soup of the day - all were very good. The hot chocolate was our favorite drink. Very good - but a bit pricey for USA standards.
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
This place was great! We stopped for a croissant and a coffee, both of which were very good. We sat outside, receiving prompt and super-friendly service. I'd highly recommend a quick coffee or breakfast at Henrici.
google avatar

Kenneth B.

Yelp
Friendly staff who speak English and helpful to tourists. Great coffee and pastries! Conveniently located on the heart of pedestrian shopping in Zurich. This is a local place...but for everyone! Easy to spot, facing the plaza with the guard at the fountain, in the Franziskaner Hotel building. Outdoor and indoor seating.

Matthias D.

Yelp
Food: OK Service: I had a rather unfriendly experience but complaining per e-mail actually worked and they reacted in a friendly manner and offered a free coffee for the next time. Will give it another chance.
google avatar

Michelle K.

Yelp
I really do like their coffee and wine a lot, but the service is just too bad, super unfriendly and not welcoming at all. We placed a reservation, which they forgot, then they let us wait without even bringing a menu. After a moment I asked for it & the waitress was already quite unfriendly. We asked three times for tap water, which we actually never got. The big salad is actually just greens with a few tomatoes on top (chf 13.-), I asked for oil & vinegar - they don't have vinegar ;) are you kidding me? The Flammkuchen was quite nice, but just over priced. We ordered the check, they forgot, we asked again after. (Place was not that busy). I gave Henrici a several tries (coffee, wine, breakfast, dinner, dessert), but that was enough, I guess that was my last visit..
google avatar

Kaitlyn W.

Yelp
Very busy little place with outdoor and indoor seating. There is a small simple menu for food but plenty of drinks! Get the Hummus Teller; it was so amazing. It is the perfect combination of warm pita bread, fresh Hummus, and a tomato cucumber salad to top it off. Definatly recommend coming.
google avatar

Ladina P.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! The waiter we had was super friendly and went out of his way to make sure we got everything we wanted. So don't be shy and just asked if you want to mix and match or got allergies. Everything on the menu sounds amazing.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is exactly what I needed to kill some time between flights. Great relaxing atmosphere, very warm and kind service, an outstanding cappuccino and a delicious egg sandwich with very fresh bread. Highly recommended. Enjoy:)

Yelp
Fantastic breakfast with horrible service. While visiting Zurich we had plans to take the train down to Lucerne. We passed by this place a few times while exploring the city and after looking at the reviews on Yelp, we decided to grab breakfast here before catching our train. We arrived early on the Sunday so there were not many patrons and we had our pick of seats. The waiter came by pretty quickly with the menus and maybe 5 minutes later was back to take our orders. We ordered two cappuccinos, some brioche, the acai bowl and the breakfast flamm. In no time the waiter was back with our drinks and the brioche, which were both very nice. Our meal was definitely off to a good start. Before we finished our cappuccinos they were back with our dishes which both looked amazing. J's acai bowl had pureed acai (and maybe other berries but not sure as the menu was in German) topped with granola and sliced banana. It was simple but had nice flavours. My breakfast flamm was a flatbread pizza of sorts topped with a Crème fraîche, eggs, bacon, tomato and cheese. It was light, crispy and delicious. After we finished our food and drinks we sat there for a bit before realising that the waiter might not want to rush us, so when he passed by we asked if he could please bring the bill. He said yes and headed off. Over the next 15 minutes we watched as he took orders for several tables, dropped the bill by a few other tables and proceeded to greet, seat, take the food order, and deliver drinks to a table of 8 that walked in AFTER we asked for the bill. At the end of the 15 minutes we asked again if he could please bring the bill. He gave us a horrible look and 30 seconds later came back with the bill. The damage was €40 so we decided to save our cash and pay with a card. When we pulled the card out he said they had a €50 minimum. Seriously? I've heard of €10 minimums at a busy bar but €50 minimum for a café? Luckily we had just enough cash so dropped the notes and ran out of there as fast as we could. Great breakfast and coffee but you can have better food and less attitude at Babu's Bakery.
google avatar

Michaela M.

Yelp
I really loved the terrace, situated in busy street but quiet enough for studying /reading for example. Coffee was great, the menu is big enough for everyone to choose from. If you fancy tasty coffee and great location, go there
google avatar

Krysia R.

Yelp
Food's decent but service is very, very, very sloooowww....zzzz. It was late Sunday afternoon but the place was packed and only a single waitress running between tables. She looked so pitiful we did not even have the heart to hurry her. You would think that with their bustling business they could pay for more help.
google avatar

Elise N.

Yelp
So, that's the 4th time I've been at Henrici and I haven't written a single review. Maybe this is because they don't have WiFi, big downside for the place. But, the rest makes up for it. The staff is polite, nice, goes out of their way to make sure that you're having a good experience. I've only been for coffee, but I have to admit that they have the best coffee in town. When you order a cappuccino, the steamed milk is perfect, the coffee tastes like real coffee. Ok, it's a little more expensive than other places, but what is -.30 extra to this immense difference in taste and experience? I love the Mexican-inspired murals on the back wall. I would love to taste their food once, but I have never been able to manage a lunch or dinner break there. Next time?
google avatar

Christine P.

Yelp
While the food is good, the customer service is incredibly poor. We were seated outside and ordered our food about ten minutes after. We waited for around 45 minutes until we reminded them that we ordered food. The waiters didn't even notice that we didn't have our food nor did they apologize when we made them aware of this. Suffice it to say we will not be coming here again because the food is NOT worth the wait nor the price.
google avatar

Jme G.

Yelp
I've visited several times now and I have to say- the service really differed depending on the day. The first time in winter was kind of quick- we even sat outside. But the second in spring was SUPER slow- I was so surprised! They brought my colleague's coffee straight to the table, but mine took another 20, was the barista unable? (Soon after we were offered 2 more drinks we didn't order, which signals to me some organizatoinal disorder?) Both times the cappuccinos were all milk with little coffee. So sorry, but weak drinks are just not for me! We asked for a stronger 2nd round- she suggested a latte instead- but I thought there's even more milk in that? They're losing coffee cred... Both times my colleagues enjoyed a piece of cake and they said it was delish. And I'd like to return when the kitchen is open to try an actual dish. But step up the service and go easy on the milk to keep us coming back to this chill little place with a neat Niederdorf location just uphill from the tram track.
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
OK...so I don't drink coffee...but my wife does and she loved the coffee here. She said it was great. As we were leaving, my sister-in-law also showed up and she loved the coffee as well. I had hot chocolate that was only mediocre at best...but this is a coffee shop, not a hot chocolate shop...so it needs to be judged on its coffee.
google avatar

Nick F.

Yelp
Cool place to go for a nice cup of coffee. I had a latte it was pretty good and also complete with latte art. My friend had a hot chocolate which she said was good. Since it was a really nice night, we sat outside on the large terrace. The cafe is located right on a small square so there is plenty to see while sipping your drink. The inside also looked nice as well.
google avatar

Heidi H.

Yelp
Notably great coffee to go- I asked for black coffee.. it was an espresso. Lively and crowded in here however worth it for an awesome cup of coffee.
google avatar

Ken M.

Yelp
Excellent black coffee, and a nice view of a conquistador-topped fountain. The patio definitely attracts the work-for-a-while crowd, even on a dreary day; several people were camped out with laptops, and a few more were taking the long route through the newspaper. No wifi, though --- bring a MiFi or just work offline. Definitely a mellow place to focus and enjoy the (stellar) coffee.
google avatar

Oguz Cem C.

Yelp
Good atmosphere, coffee and apple strudel... Location is also nice thou the service is a bit slow!
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
The coffee here is amazing! It's really cute inside and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They even have oat milk if you can't drink dairy. Coffee and espresso drinks will run you about 5.50-7 CHF. Try the "diablo" which is espresso with chili and cinnamon!
google avatar

Devang M.

Yelp
Perfect for an afternoon coffee or late drinks. Gets really crowded at night. Have had much better service during the day.
google avatar

Joy W.

Yelp
Ambiance is pretty nice though views from the patio were mediocre. Flammkuchen was a bit overrated and pricey. It's basically a pizza on cracker-thin dough. One person can be pretty full with one flammkuchen. I don't miss it at all. I had the basic bacon, onion, chives one and a caffe latte for 25 CHF.
google avatar

Kilian S.

Yelp
I've been visiting this place regularly for three months now, so I think it's safe to say it's one of the best places in Zurich. Never have I encountered personnel that was unfriendly or unmotivated even. No matter how you enter henrici -whether it's with a cold, tired or bored - thanks to their selection of outstanding beverages, ranging from ginger tea via coffee to a top-notch hit chocolate, will make you leave the place with a smile.
google avatar

S C.

Yelp
Ok place for a cup of overpriced but decent coffee or for a glass of overpriced but decent beer, pastry or salad. Chose any two because ordering three will leave you broke. Nice atmosphere though.
google avatar

Mindy H.

Yelp
This place is more than just a coffee house, it is a full on cafe and bar. I came here for lunch and enjoyed a Tarte Flambe with Feta and one of their special winter coffee creations - Tito's Espresso Diablo (Chili, Vanilla, Zimt und Kakao auf Epresso mit frisch aufgeschaumter Milch). The Tarte was a bit on the pricey side, but one of the best Flammkuchen's I have had in Switzerland. The espresso drink was fantastic and had a great spicy kick to it. This coffee was so good. They definitely know how to do coffee well here. You could tell they have different roasted beans in stock as they wrote the type of coffee they were serving in the menu in pencil. The place was cosy, but even at 3:00pm was packed full of people. I shared a spot with someone else for a bit before they got up and left. There is some seating outside, and on a warm day, or if your ready to brave the cold, it's a nice place to enjoy and people watch as you have a great view in the centre of old town. The service was friendly and fast. Really enjoyed my time here.
google avatar

Francisca S.

Yelp
What a cool cafe. If you enjoy sitting and people watching in a cafe at a courtyard in the old town of Zürich, definitely try this place. The people are all pretty friendly, and I've gone with friends and by myself for food and drinks, never had a problem and always enjoyed the ambience. No wifi but food but good food til 10 pm
google avatar

René P.

Yelp
Very nice coffee house right in the heart of Zurich. The warm and a bit rural atmosphere is very welcoming - tempting to spend some time there reading or whatever. Mostly youngish people.
google avatar

Jeremy H.

Yelp
Henrici practices coffee as craft, with the proper latte pour you'd be familiar with from Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, etc. I just recently found them, and was so excited when I saw the latte they brought to me. No push-button instant shot machines, they pull each shot from quality espresso steam machines. Perfect crema art, milk properly stretched to give that velvety texture that makes for wonderful milk coffees, and the espresso was delicious, completely skipping the over roasted burn flavor that seems so common (looking at you $tarbuck$). I believe one of the owners actually worked in San Francisco coffee houses for a few years, and wanted to bring the culture back to Switzerland. They recently started serving single-origin pour-over coffees, which I'm really looking forward to trying. I hope they are really successful, and open another location, or inspire others to do so.

Mrs M.

Yelp
Just popped in on a rainy Sunday for a late breakfast, early lunch. The tarte was so light, flavorful and delicious. The waitress was very sweet and patient with my young teenage son who was anxious to practice his German. Great coffee!!

F M.

Yelp
I liked the place a lot. I had a panache, a flammkuche (veggie), and a special coffee, and paid a total bill of CHF 34 (plus I left a tip). What really got me though, was their variety of coffees and the atmosphere. It's the coffee shop I have been missing since now, the way I intend it - couches, chairs, little tables, lounging around...I will definitely be going back for more coffee with a book sometimes soon. I was very surprised to see on the menu a very special coffee which is a delicacy of the city of Turin (Torino) and you can't generally find in other cities in Italy, let alone the rest of the world: Espresso Bicerin, a nice mix of espresso and chocolate served in a small glass (in Piedmont dialect, "bicerin" means small glass). They added some cinnamon on top, which is not very "proper", but I really like it so it was good. A very happy dining experience.
