Café-Hotel Appenzell

Small, charming, family-run hotel on the town square in Appenzell. Our room was clean, cozy and uniquely decorated with a stunning view. The staff at the hotel and restaurant was very friendly and attentive. We had dinner twice in the restaurant and the food was outstanding. We will be back!

We visited the restaurant for a dinner. Unfortunately the waitress spoke very little English and was somewhat impatient. For that we just got along with a salad, salmon and desert. The food was mere okey. Nothing special. Coffee and meringues glace were just ok. The only interesting and entertaining was a small photos exhibition on the wall. Low value for your money.

We enjoyed our stay here. We contacted the hotel and they sent us a google map coordinate so we drove right to the parking lot behind the hotel. Room was clean and ready for us even though we arrived early. Breakfast was great and they will cook you eggs if you inquire. Wife enjoyed the cappuccino each morning. We also received the Appenzellar card the saved us money on train and cable cars.

Rooms are authentic and charming. It is clean and tidy. I had a comfortable stay. They have nice breakfast too. The staff are kind and friendly. I would recommend them.

The best place to stay in the heart of charming Appenzell! I have to highlight their complimentary breakfast at the Café—when a hotel says “breakfast included,” THIS is what it should mean. Fresh-squeezed orange juice, croissants baked that morning, a beautiful spread of fruit and oatmeal, and a generous assortment of jams and honey. On top of that, eggs and bacon are made to order and brought right to your table. We were traveling with a large family group, and each morning the staff thoughtfully arranged for us to sit together. The team truly went above and beyond with their hospitality, creating a level of service that elevated every part of our stay. I had the best night’s sleep of my entire trip here (out of four other high-quality hotels). The rooms and hallways were clean and character-rich—charming and historic without feeling outdated. Wholeheartedly recommend!

I only went there for food. It was quite good and they even had someone who spoke French so I could explain a question that I had. Would recommend.

Very authentic and beautiful hotel. Spacious rooms with good beds. Locations is excellent. Delicious breakfast and friendly staff. Great coffee.

⭐️Great location at the entrance of the main street. The cafe offers a nice interior setting and comfortable polstered seats. 😭That said the service was horrible. The opposite of what one would expect in such a place : high German, extremely directive, impossible to change the order even just after she tipped it on her machine. Completely unfriendly. I hope this gets noticed and updated. Not what this great place deserves.
