Located close to the Stephan Dom this is the place Vienna intellectuals and artists to keep the Kaffeehaus culture alive with newspapers to read. The room is small, there is a terrace for good weather. The waiters own the place - they know everything and everyone. Reservations required.

Everything was great except the waiter could be more nice and welcoming.

Just okay — and the service made it worse Stopped by Café Korb to try the apple strudel — it was average at best and didn’t look fresh. Nothing special. But what really ruined the experience was the service. I went to Cafe Landtmann and the waiters there are quite nice. The waiter at Cafe Korb asked me to key in a tip in a way that felt very pushy and uncomfortable, their attitude is disrespectful and rude. The waiter purposely cleaning the table when we were still sitting down. It felt like the only thing left was for him to brush the food scraps onto us. It was really uncomfortable how the waiter acted like tipping was mandatory, especially when the only “service” was taking the order and dropping off the plate. I work hard for my money, and I don’t think I should feel pressured to give extra for basic service. Tipping should be optional, not expected unless the service truly deserves it. They didn’t even pay attention to what we wanted at first.

First stop on our food tour is Café Korb, a historic Viennese institution. It’s owned by Ursula Strauss currently but it opened in 1904. Strauss, a prominent figure in the Viennese cultural scene, has maintained the café’s historic charm. There are every day regulars who have their designated booths and tables. During our visit, we enjoyed a simple dish of bread, butter, and chives—an Austrian classic. It was super creamy. I will be trying this at home. The highlight, however, was the Kaiserschmarrn. I had already tried this but I was ready for #2. Originating from the imperial kitchens, it is said that Kaiserschmarrn was created by accident when a chef, preparing pancakes for Emperor Joseph I, accidentally dropped them. Rather than discarding them, the chef cleverly added raisins, whipped egg whites, and powdered sugar before serving it to the emperor. Joseph I adored the creation securing its place in Austrian culinary history.

Amazing place with super delicious traditional Viennese food. The Schnitzel, the apple strudel, and the viennese coffee were insanely tasty! Moreover, the waiter was fantastic. I wonder where his energy, attention to details and memory are coming from. Next time I'm in Vienna, I'll definitely visit this place again.

Look elsewhere no more. You get the best austrian food here and believe me, I tried once and i'm hooked eversince! A restaurant that offers the best roasted beef (Zwiebelrostbraten) AND the best beef tartare is very rare but they have it! Thank you for the wonderful service and excellent dish. You'll be seeing me more often because I have to try everything from the menu :)

Cafe Korb, a renowned gem in Vienna's iconic Kaffeehaus Kultur, came highly recommended by a friend, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere of Cafe Korb captures the quintessential charm of Viennese coffee houses with its warm and inviting ambiance, making it an ideal spot for both locals and tourists seeking an authentic slice of the city's culture. The culinary highlights of my visit were undoubtedly the traditional Viennese desserts. The Apfelstrudel was superb, with just the right blend of sweetness and tartness, encased in a flaky, buttery pastry. Equally impressive was the Kaiserschmarrn, fluffy and light, served warm and dusted with a generous amount of powdered sugar, making it a delightful treat. Cafe Korb not only serves up delicious food but also offers a cultural experience that resonates with the historical richness of Vienna's coffee house tradition. It's a must-visit for anyone wanting to immerse themselves in the local flavor and enjoy some of the best traditional desserts the city has to offer.

Absolute gem. Full of locals enjoying tea, coffee, beer and strudel done right. Stylish 1950s interior decor. A local institution that is miraculously free of the tourist crowd. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This place is in a nice area for people watching. The omelette didn't look like what I expected but it was above average taste wise. Would totally come back here again!

Yelp
Just stopped in for coffee and strudel. The apple strudel was the best we had #1 out of 4. Nice place for a snack.

Julia L.

Yelp
Server was rude and did not get us a table until we just sat down. Food was bad, don't waste your time.

Nahid L.

Yelp
This place is a little hidden gem. We were seated immediately. The service was quick and the menu is extensive with a good variety of food and drink items. The ham and cheese omelette was exceptional.

Yelp
The staff seem incredibly overworked as it was incredibly hard to get someone's attention, but it wasn't like they were standing about behind the counter twiddling their thumbs. They were constantly running back and forth trying to service all the tables. We stopped here during the beginning of the day to grab a coffee, and I'm sure glad we found this place. It was incredibly hot inside (no AC, of course) and so I opted for an "iced coffee". It ended up being sort of a chocolate/mocha concoction with a scoop of ice cream in it and whipped cream on top. It was absolutely delicious and I could start to feel the caffeine kicking in within the first few sips, so I could tell it was incredibly concentrated. The second time we came here we opted to sit outside since it was so hot, but again, received only mediocre service. Luckily the menu is pretty straightforward and so all you really needed the waiters for were ordering and paying. The menu also has an English section (thank God!). I'd keep coming back here just for the iced coffee, especially I got the impression in Austria that iced coffee wasn't really a common thing :).

Yelp
According to my guidebook, we needed to come here for Apfelstrudel, and Korb delivered! It was definitely one of the heartiest strudels we had. We also had their sacher torte, which was delectable. Getting the two together, actually, was a nice compliment. The inside space seemed a little stuffy, but I'd highly recommend sitting outside. There is plenty of space!

Yelp
A cool kickback in the middle of the city full of locals (I think?) chatting away. Coffee was v good and v strong. Loved the ambiance.

Zoe W.

Yelp
Very nice place. The restaurant was lovely with very friendly staff and tasty food. Only thing was the waiter gave us bread at the table and we guessed that it was complimentary. It was not complimentary. Waiters spoke English well and seemed happy to help and answer any questions.

Kristen S.

Yelp
Good service, good beer, great outside seating. However their apple strudel is horrendous! Would not recommend for dessert.

Elliott P.

Yelp
I didnt have a good experience. They were quite busy, which might explain why: * soup was lukewarm * strudel was warm in some spots, cold in others * under staffed wait staff * baby crying in a small dining area Coffee was good

Yelp
Decent place to grab lunch and coffee, recommended by our guide as the sort of place the locals would go. The food was reasonable, and served quickly. I would stop there again if looking for a lunch near St Stephens, but wouldn't go out of my way to revisit it.

Yelp
Anytime I get something for free from the owner its an immediate five stars! Us yelpers popped in for a night cap following a yelp elite event and immediately sparked the interest of the wait staff and the owner (I think she was the owner, corrections if not) who came over and asked us who we were and what we were doing. In a very friendly manner I have to say! A couple of minutes later we (all 10 of us) were brought a warming drink compliments of "the chefin." I don't know what it was called but 'yummy' would be my guess. Warm cherry liquor topped with whipped cream and cinnamon. WOW! As one of the yelpers said this would be fantastic on the slopes as a warming agent and it certainly did its job! The locale itself is everything a coffee house in Vienna should be. Inside things haven't changed decor wise since the mid 50s, the waiters all wear 3 piece suits slightly too big for them, there is a slightly cerebral vibe going on and two hipsters in the corner whispering to themselves bedecked in fashionable button down shirts and bulky scarves. Excellent! Just the place to drop in and spend an hour or two with coffee and cakes. Downstairs there is a cabaret room for rent and the biggest surprise (for me anyway) the toilets. Seemingly dropped right out of the Starship Enterprise, the juxtaposition here is wonderful. All curvy white plastic walls with red floors it has absolutely nothing to do with the cafe it serves. Just lovely! Nice and friendly and Im hoping the coffee is great too as this could become my "local" coffee house!

Yelp
Worst stuff very rude. Dont go there. Worst strudel ever ate. The waiter was angry to us out of nowhere. Because we just couldnt find the rigth coin inside my pocket and he only waited for 10 seconds. He grabbed the coin from my hand and smashed it to the table. Very arragont place for a very bad quality cafe.

Carlotta C.

Yelp
My favourite café ever. As soon as you step in you can't help but notice the elegant waiters, the old fashioned furniture and the dozens of cigarettes being lit every second. Come here for a coffee, dessert or to grab a bite, you won't be disappointed!

Sacha D.

Yelp
Great place. Daniel was our server who was friendly and made great recommendations. The food was so delicious. It was one of the best meals I've had in Wien.

Michael S.

Yelp
Lowkey and off the beaten path, it's a great place to stop for a beer and some good Viennese cuisine!

Andy O.

Yelp
"Oben ist auch was los, die Dame muss sich gedulden." ("Upstairs is busy as well, the lady has to be patient.") That tone is totally unacceptable. A bit later, I overheard the following: Waiter: "I brought this about 5 minutes ago, you weren't here." Person: "I was in the bathroom." Waiter: "Well..." In my mind, the following question formed: "Well what, asshole?! You got a problem with him going to the bathroom?!" Neither of these things involved people I knew but still, I will avoid this place in the future. And probably all other traditional Viennese Cafes, seeing how rudeness is apparently part of their "charm".

Yelp
There is nothing very special about this place, as for a Vienna Coffee House it is far from being a good one. Not having an area for NON Smokers is also a disadvantage for me, although in the summer time they do have a big outdoors space. But as there is nothing special about the menu or coffee they offer, i do not see why i would return to this place. My Personal points system out of 10, standard for Vienna is 5. Location: 8 Atmosphere: 5 Decor: 5 Size: 5 Non Smoking Area: NO Coffee temperature(*2): 5 Coffee taste: 5 Service(*1): 5 *1=(Standard in Vienna is 5 on my scale) this is based on that you get serviced fast but you have to work hard to pay at the end) *2=(Standard in Vienna is 5 on my scale) I always have a Caffè latte as my control coffee. My coffee partner always has a Mélange.

Yelp
My family and I were en route to Cafe Central when we stopped by this cafe instead. The people in front carelessly motioned for us to sit down, only to find that all the seats left were reserved. We asked the waiters again about where we should sit, and they were completely ignorant to our request and acted as if we weren't even there. We felt that was rude, and left the cafe. The few extra minutes walk to Cafe Central was worth it, and we had a more than pleasant time there!

Martin F.

Yelp
A nice travel back in time to the original look of the 60's. Classic Wiener breakfast served with great coffee and funny remarks from the waiter. The basement has been modernised and choosing the right door to the restrooms may pose a challenge - however, once you use your imagination, the signs on the door make clearly sense.. As for many places in Vienna, smoking is allowed inside which might annoy other scared European non-smokers, but "when in Rome..."!

Demosthenis Z.

Yelp
This place is a solid cafe for drinks and food. Salads were excellent - schnitzel authentic and the kaiserschmarren was to die for. A must for any visitor to Austria! Don't forget to try the apple strudel - the best!!!!

David S.

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop in Vienna with a very special, traditional atmosphere. Great service, good coffee and very nice for breakfast. Only two minutes away from St. Stephen's cathedral!
