Cafe Lava Hostel

Sober rooms, shower and toilet are not separated by a wall of some sorts so be careful as it gets slippery. Beds were long and wide enough with nice, thick blankets. Even though the blankets were thick I was still freezing (while wearing three layers) as the room has no heating facilities. Going from 35°C in the morning to 14°C in the afternoon and evening was quite a shock so warm clothes and warm pyjama’s are a must (possibly bring warm socks as well). The staff was very helpful and friendly and helped us where needed. The location is also perfect as it’s right on the edge of the Sea of Sand next to the Bromo volcano.

The room had a constant cold draft and no heater or fan, which made the stay very uncomfortable, especially in the high-altitude chill. There was no hair dryer, and the kettle provided was old and rusty—making it unsuitable for boiling water safely. The shower only produced hot water for about 30 seconds to a minute before turning cold, and I had to repeatedly switch the power off and on to get it working again. Additionally, the steep steps in and around the room area felt quite unsafe, especially in the dark or for anyone carrying luggage. I understand the hotel’s location is ideal for early access to Mt Bromo, but the facilities and room comfort were unfortunately not conducive for a good rest.

We didn’t stay here, just ate at the restaurant. Our tour guide took us here as he said it’s one of the few restaurants that make your food to order. Our dinner was delicious, and fresh. Good fuel before our Bromo hike the next day

Simple, basic room, quite clean. Unfortunately not hot water in the shower. Good dinner and fair breakfast

Stayed here as part of our mt Bromo sunrise tour. The rooms are large and clean and the staff lovely. Also had a delicious dinner, breakfast and hot chocolate.

unfortunately our bed got not changed before we came :( under the blanket was a lot of hair and a dead fly. The trash was still full from the last guests and the hair was everywhere in the room. We asked if they could change our bed but maybe because of the language barrier they gave us only a fresh sheet. We covered the pillows and the hairy mattress with the sheet and slept fully clothed (also because it was really cold and there is no heating system in the room)

Good gluten free options. Had a lovely meal of fried glass noodles after climbing Bromo. Staff were very helpful and understanding of my gluten allergy.

Great location for Mount Bromo sunrise and trek. Staff are friendly. Restaurant food is ok. Our room was very cold and there is no heating to warm up. Shower was off and on cold. Beds were pretty comfortable and you get extra sheet for warmth. Check in process was easy. Wi-Fi works ok throughout. All in all, a half decent stay.
