Le Hibou (The Owl) is a lovely café sitting in the center of the main street along the lake in downtown Wakefield, Quebec. It has a large outdoor deck where most choose to sit in nice weather like last weekend. There are umbrellas for shade on the hot sunny days, but if you choose to be outside, you will find yourself wishing for a spot of shade to shield you from the unforgiving sun, and for larger umbrellas.
Our late lunch was a last minute decision after parking near the Wakefield Inn and walking down the road to Chemin Riverside. So happy with our choice, as the small repast we had was far better than we could have hoped for as we walked around town.
My companion had the Veggie Burger on a Pita. She said it was the absolute best she had tasted, and committed to returning to Le Hibou just to have it again. My Huevos Rancheros also surprised me with its uniqueness and exquisite flavors. It certainly had a strong French influence, but the combination of Eggs on Tortilla, with Spicy Salsa, Chilies, Guacamole and Melted Cheese was really good. The small side salad with finely Shredded Beets was also excellent. The few pieces of Fresh Fruit offered a pleasant sweetness to the end of the meal.
Aside from playing musical chairs with the sun, and changing tables to catch a break from its unrelenting burn, Le Hibou was a great find in a charming town geared for bikers, bicyclists, hikers, and romantic weekenders.
Sit on the deck out of the sun, and enjoy the mountains, blue sky and beautiful waters.
