"Laid-back Coffeehouse Cafe Los Cuiles is a casual coffeehouse located in Plaza los Virgenes right in the center of Oaxaca . It's a great spot for a coffee and breakfast, to take a break from sightseeing or to catch up on your email. Have some "enfrijoladas" or a waffle for breakfast, or meet with friends later in the day for a beer and snacks. Besides local dishes, the menu also includes some difficult to find in Oaxaca items like soy burgers and hummus. Sit inside the cafe on one of the cushioned benches in the corners, or pick a spot in the patio. The staff won't rush you (they rarely rush themselves, so be patient) and you can take your time enjoying the laid-back vibe of this artsy cafe."

I’ve eaten here three times over the last two weeks and the food quality and service has been great each time. I had their vegetable omelette for breakfast and it was quite good and reasonably priced. The other two times I had salads and a tostada. Also reasonably priced, visually appealing and tasty. The courtyard setting with water fountain is another reason to visit. One of my favorite places to eat in Oaxaca!

Wonderful lunch at Cafe Los Cuiles today. Reasonably priced and one of our best meals in Oaxaca so far! Check out this salad. It tasted as good as it looks.

Google
What an amazing traditional breakfast we had. The food was delicous. Would recommend.

Google
Absolutely delightful. Delicious homely food. I sat in the courtyard and it was a tranquil atmosphere with the trickle of the water fountain juts a stones throw from the hustle and bustle of outside. The food was delicious and service was warm friendly and just lovely. A real little find.

Great place! Good food and many options (also yogurt and oat)

Google
Very kind service, we saw one of the waiters on the street later in the day and he said hello. Food was tasty, nutritious and good value. Vibes on the patio and drinks (coffee and juice) were also delightful!

Google
Zenon was such a great mesero. Very friendly and insightful. Great cappuccino, asked for hot and strong and it was great. Nice courtyard with various art shops and galleries as well. Wasn't busy at all during a Tuesday afternoon. Great spot to reflect and relax.

If you looking for tasty breakfast with NO QUEUE this is your place. Quiet, lovely terrace, surrounded by artisan pottery shops. They accept cards. There is a choice of eggs, oaxacan traditional breakfasts and few more continental options. The truth is I have never had better molletes than here. They serve real, good quality coffee too. Place is inexpensive and very tasty. They are open till 10pm so its worth to come back for michelada and evening snack/desert. Truly underrated spot!

Yelp
We found this little plaza walking the andador turístico! So glad we did! We made friends with Zenon a wonderful waiter here at Los Cuiles! Such a nice person!! He gave us great recommendations for our stay! We will definitely be back soon to spend time with our Friend Zenon and to have the delicious chocolate con leche with a concha!! All the food was great! Lentil soup, chicken taquitos and desserts!

Yelp
Loved loved loved this place. The food was amazing, came really fast and was always fresh. Tried Oaxacan coffee with water here which was delicious The staff is very friendly and attentive. The place is clean and aesthetically pleasing with plenty of seating. The offer inside as well as patio seating. Perfect for working or meeting up with friends or spending some time on your own. They change the password daily

Yelp
Such a great little restaurant in a beautiful courtyard. Service was super friendly and the food was delicious. They put so much effort in every dish, it looked fantastic. We had the tostadas with egg and it was aarde size dish. Coffee was good and kids had a mango frappe that they loved. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Very fresh and well seasoned. I waited for the salad a bit long, but it certainly is worthwhile. I had these for dinner, and I loved it. The service is good too. The place is quiet and beautiful

Yelp
Great little find on our last night. I wanted a salad and they had a beautiful one. Very attentive service. And the food was delicious. Had mole and enchiladas verdes. They can make them with any meat. Really good!

Yelp
Dropped by by chance. Ordered a Tostada....Wow! It was the size of the plate. Awesome taste. Great service. My wife and I plan to go next day to try their breakfast. Update: had breakfast; just average. Same with service. Will come back only if I am in the mood for Tostada.

Yelp
Thank you yelp for helping us find this place. We order the chilaquiles, enfrijoladas and a waffle with Coffee Oaxaca. Everything was delicious and the service was great. We didn't wait long for our food. A great start to our day.

Yelp
Very good food in a lovely courtyard surrounded by the incredible pottery gallery A great breakfast experience. Recommend highly!

Yelp
First stop I found in Oaxaca for breakfast and did not disappoint. The location and restaurant were beautiful.. definitely what you come to Oaxaca for to be surrounded by culture. The food was amazing. We ordered green chilaquiles with eggs and huevos en salsa rojo con tasajo. I also enjoyed their cafe de olla. I would return and recommend. Very affordable

Yelp
This place was just OK. It's a lovely location on a quiet pedestrian promenade, with a lovely courtyard. But the indifferent service and just OK. Food made it not the best for breakfast.

Yelp
I do not understand how Yelp works outside of the Main land ( UsA). This place is not bad, but is not deserving of the rating. It is a regular breakfast place I give it 2 stars, as a result of a mediocre caffe latte Reforsado, that I was not friendly to. In my humble opinion you get the best coffee in quality and preparedness here in Mexico. This place needs a more experience barista. My breakfast was boring huevos estrellados (fried eggs - over medium ) . They were good.

Yelp
Service was extremely slow the salsa had zero flavor. I wouldn't bother to come to a place that takes one plate out at a time. We had to constantly remind them to take things out like tortillas.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is a very typical oaxacan restaurant The food is very good, very tasty The service is very slow and they don't take credit cards

David F.

Yelp
Bomb little breakfast spot close to everything in the centro. Very affordable as well. The chiliquiles are bomb here & the mocha frappe!

Yelp
Perfect if you just want a homey bite to eat that's both cheap and yummy. For $105 pesos = scrambled eggs sandwich + spinach salad with avocado, feta cheese and pine nuts. The salad was not dressed and came with oil and vinegar. It was delicious, fresh and delivered with friendliness. Bread with the salad was optional. I gladly opted. Comfy seating. Can sit for a while, work, and is a good meeting place. A small, simple and casual cafe. Shares a courtyard with a couple fantastic art galleries and a clothing store. Can't speak to the coffee, alcohol or pastries, but they were also quite inexpensive.

Yelp
Unassuming little Cafe but very satisfying! I got a torta de tasajo and a chai frappe and my friend ordered a cappuccino and chilequiles rojos. We both really enjoyed everything, the service was friendly and the ambiance in the courtyard with the water fountain was very calming. Definitely reccomend popping in.

Yelp
Breakfast was freshly made and very delicious. Place very low key and only locals were eating here which was a great sign. Prices very reasonable. We will be coming back here for breakfast during our stay in Oaxaca.

Yelp
We came here for brunch on a Monday. The food was really good. Nice little backyard where people can relax. We had the cafe Oaxaquenio with cinnamon in it. It was delicious. If you are a tourist who loves a big cup of coffee you should try it.
google avatar

Yelp
The best cafe in town, the reviews are a decoy. :) varied and plenty seating, fantastic wifi and good coffee. Their vegetable omlette is tasty, torta is good and lemon pie is indulgently tasty.
google avatar

Linda C.

Yelp
We got the chilaquiles and had to order extra eggs. Just tortilla chips with plain red and/or green sauce and sprinkle of cheese. Wonderful bowl of fresh fruit with yogurt and granola. Best breakfast we ordered was the scrambled eggs with chorizo. Came with fresh tomatoes, avocado and black beans. The coffee was quite bitter. The guy working in the front was fun to talk to and gave us very good service. Wish I remembered his name.

Yelp
We stopped by here for an excellent breakfast with bottomless refills of coffee. I forget the Spanish name of my meal, but it was fried tortillas with fried egg and dried cured beef. The meal came with a small side of fruit (papaya, cantaloupe, and banana) and the coffee had a mild cinnamon flavor. Service was very friendly - our waitress didn't speak much English, but we were able to figure out the menu pretty easily with Google Translate.

Milou T.

Yelp
Excellent little restaurant that's like a hole in the wall. It's like a little outdoor garden surrounded by small boutique shops which were very nice. They have several vegetarian dishes which was a nice surprise. The food was excellent, and the fruit was very fresh. The only reason I did not give this restaurant a 5 star review was that the service was lacking. I ordered a fruit plate and a fruit juice to be served before my entree, but the fruit came after the main dish and they never brought the juice. Other than that I was very satisfied with the food.

Yelp
This place had good food but pretty slow. Not a place to go to if you're in a rush, but definitely recommend if you have time. It's in a very cute location which was nice and relaxing. We got a variety of foods- tortas, mole, tacos dorados, quesadillas, agua fresca de naranja, and coffee. My favorite was the coffee which had khalua in it- it looked and tasted like a dessert! Yum! The prices were excellent- very affordable!

Yelp
Basic food , good spot for breakfast. Very slow service. Nice outside seating. Some nice shops in the courtyard. I highly recommend the manicure, pedicure place in there Very clean!
google avatar

Eric R.

Yelp
Another outstanding place to have breakfast! Very economical with convenient hours and an excellent menu. Incidentally, a cuile is a tree that gives shade to the coffee trees. Their menu features both traditional choices such as enchiladas, entomatadas and chorizo con huevo, as well as oatmeal, omelettes and yogurt. Something for everyone!

Yelp
We went in for breakfast and it was a great experience. The service was friendly, quick, and all servers were very busy. Great service, delicious food, great prices, and centrally located it's a great place for a brunch in Oaxaca.

Yelp
Great little airy café with very affordable and delicious breakfast and lunch options. Many vegetarian options also. Super casual and relaxed. Came back here after five years and the quality was the same. A lovely place with great food!

Yelp
This place is crazy good. I had the best breakfast I have ever had in Mexico here. Mole, eggs, avocado, beans, cheese. Crazy good coffee. And so cheap. Good lord. This place will make you appreciate being in Mexico so much more than you could imagine.
google avatar

Holly H.

Yelp
I'm on a strict gluten free diet and they have many options here for me. I had the avocado stuffed with tuna and it was delicious. The waitress was very welcoming. The courtyard was quiet and inside there are several areas for studying or hanging out with friends. I'll come here often.
google avatar

Dylan H.

Yelp
They didn't have soy milk, which was disappointing. Service is also very slow and inconsistent.
google avatar

Isaí G.

Yelp
I ordered a torta de chorizo and my wife ordered a torta de cecina. Both were really good and the salsa was delicious.
google avatar

laura W.

Yelp
Amazingly delicious. We got the banana ana smoothie, macchiato and a chorizo tlayuda. They made everything to go for us quickly! The tlayuda was so tasty- beans, tomato, cheese and fresh avocado inside. They even bagged up some salsa for us! Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Brian F.

Yelp
Of the many coffee options in El Centro, this one is by far my favorite. Why? The best Wi-Fi access in town, organic soy milk for the latte, and a steaming hot bowl of oatmeal with dried cranberries, banana, and cinnamon. Insiders tip: traveling solo? Drink and eat in one of the windows overlooking the street. The café looks onto a plaza... Great people watching. And in the evenings, students often come together to practice their dancing.

Yelp
Our first dining experience in Mexico. We were looking for a simple authentic Oaxacan breakfast. Yelp reviews helped me find it. There is indoor and courtyard seating. I had tortillas in a black bean sauce. Christine had huevos in red and green salsas. Both were mild in heat but nicely flavored. Excellent spicy salsa served on the side, not sure if it was intended for fruit salad but was good on everything.
google avatar

Jillian K.

Yelp
Los Cuiles was a great spot for a hearty breakfast before heading out to explore the city. There are a few tables in the courtyard and more inside. We ordered jugo de naranja, avena, and the vegetable omelette and were not disappointed with any of the food! One of the heartier and inexpensive breakfasts we've had during our stay! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Jeffrey L.

Yelp
Tlayudas are really delicious here and the service is outstanding. Great place to go hang out for wifi & to eat. Pretty cheap prices so it is a good deal. Location is near center of town so it is easy to walk to.

Yelp
Very very disappointed and saddened, particularly because this was my first dining experience in Oaxaca (and I hope it to be an anomaly, but here's my story). I walked into a 1/2 full cafe, and the "cutest window table in town" at the window became available. The hostess said that it was reserved (I speak Spanish, so I wasn't mistaken), so she directed me to an indoor table for two. About 10 minutes after settling in and ordering, two guys walked in, noticed the cute table, so, naturally, they sat there. There was no acknowledgment that they had or had not reserved the table. I thought, wait, did she discriminate against me because I'm solo? However, they audibly said how surprising and cool it was that the table was free. Then...believe it or not...when I went to the bathroom I saw the second "cutest window table in town" on the other side of the restaurant and NO ONE sitting there. When I left about an hour later, both tables were free. Equally important, the huevos divorciados were just average (I had just arrived from Puerto Escondido and had two yummy huevos divorciados) and the fresh OJ was too bitter. Based on my experience, never again and I can't recommend this place.

Yelp
We ate on January 1st, most ppl were hangover. The food was great!, my wife had green chicken enchiladas, my son had a chorizo torta and a waffle, and I had chicken enmoladas. Everything was delicious but, the drinks came after the food, maybe the waiters were hangover as well.
google avatar

Kris W.

Yelp
Checked it out based on the yelp reviews. Very disappointed at the poor service and high prices for Oaxaca. Brought out half our tables food 20 minutes before the other, we were only 2 people having simple breakfast. Avoid!

Claire F.

Yelp
Wonderful breakfast. Pan, fruta, and entree for a great price.

Jessica V.

Yelp
Good breakfast, big portions, nice atmosphere , ample choices, and so affordable! The service is good and you can wander into the little galleries in the courtyard when you're done.

Marie H.

Yelp
Great place to grab a bite to eat! Visited Oaxaca for a week and came here twice for light dinners. Free wifi, calm atmosphere, friendly service and good food. Bought some apple pastry for breakfast on the plane back! That was delicious, too.
google avatar

Nicholas W.

Yelp
We ate here twice. I would definitely try it for breakfast. They don't seem to speak any English but we were able to order and get what we wanted. Its only a block from Santo Domingo on a quiet side street across from Parque Bastida. Nice place.

James B.

Yelp
Def try this place out! Awesome place for breakfast! Cozy outdoor seating. I suggest getting the coffee Americano, mango smoothie, and pancakes. Great way to start the day! This is the second time I have ever written a review and the first time was for the sole purpose of writing a bad review to a place I did not like haha. But this place was so good I had to write a review. You won't be disappointed! Enjoy

Cynthia R.

Yelp
great breakfast here in very pleasant surroundings! i ordered the huevos con chorizo with fruit and coffee and sat in the courtyard. inside the cafe is also pleasant if the courtyard is full. very nice waitstaff!
