In-Depth Review of Muir Hotel in Halifax - AFAR

"A Parisian-style bistro in the surrounding district, noted for its swan-dotted wallpaper and classic French dishes; the baked camembert served with a buttery baguette is a recommended order." - Aislyn Greene

If you appreciate french cuisine, and a pretty aesthetic, don’t miss an opportunity to savour an experience here - either outside on their patio with salty air and views of the sea, or inside their cozy space. Their brunch menu is divine - and espresso drinks (lattes, cappuccinos etc) are excellent. In the afternoons- catch their Happy hr before 6 pm, which has excellent deals (like a glass of bubbly with frites for $10-) and their main menu is excellent- French onion soup, salads, beef bourguignon on pommes alicot, etc. And with the best crème brûlée ever? Say no more…

Café Lunette was a lovely dinner spot during our time in Halifax. The interior itself was stunning, elegant, and chic. Overall, a beautiful place to enjoy a meal. We started with the Steak Tartare and French Onion Soup, both of which were delicious. The portion sizes were also just right and everything was seasoned nicely. For my main, I went with the French Onion Burger. I liked the concept and was excited to see how they’d bring their signature soup flavour into a burger format. The meal was pretty solid, but it didn’t really capture the same magic as the soup we had. The fries were a touch salty for my taste, but still enjoyable. We were served by David throughout, who was friendly and professional. We definitely felt taken care of from start to finish! Overall, Café Lunette is a pretty spot near the harbourfont with great service and nice French-inspired dishes.

Beautiful place! The food was great, ordered the 2 course for $41 French onion soup and steak frites. The fries were delicious as they are fried in duck fat and the dip was so good too. I was only disappointed with the baguette…. It was too small. Sliced fresh baguette would be better than these hard mini ones that you can barely butter. And the star of the show is the butter for the baguette in my view! Would love to come back. Also my friend got the Cherry Sour cocktail and that was beautiful and delicious also. Well done. Too full to try dessert. We came for a birthday and the server was kind enough to spilt the bills for us to pay for our guest. They even gifted our friend macarons for her birthday at the end! We loved our experience here. Thank you.

This was the best experience my husband and I have had for breakfast, and possibly ever. We were just visiting for the afternoon and wanted something simple and to have a nice seat. This cafe did not disappoint. The environment was absolutely adorable!! Everything meshed so perfect down to the baristas striped shirts. My husband experienced the best roast beef sandwich of his life and almost a week later, has told over five people. Unfortunately, we will likely never be back due to only being there traveling but I can not recommend enough. We will remember forever.

A touch of France in downtown Halifax. Went here for lunch/mid-day. Was impressed by the nice, cozy, and elegant ambience. ✨ Ordered Jambon Blanc Galette and I loved it!

Service is good. The atmosphere is good. Been here a few times. Dinner wasn’t bad but today I had brunch and it wasn’t very good. Tofu eggs taste like water. Also the menu read as scrambled eggs with tofu. And not scramble tofu. There were 3 mushrooms and maybe 2 cherry tomatoes all for $25. The bread had olive oil which didn’t work for me as a breakfast item.

Service and food was impeccable both times I dined there. Last night, we ate outdoors which provided a great atmosphere. My gnocchi was pillowy and delicious.

Yelp
One of the best mochas in the city - every cup I've had at the cafe has been phenomenal. The ambience is warm, bright, clean, and has an element of subtle luxury. Food is extremely tasty, portion sizes seem to be fair for the price. Service is where this restaurant stands out - from servers to management, every single person at the cafe is tremendously polite and pleasant. Hands down some of the most professional staff-to-staff, and staff-to-customer interactions I've witnessed in a long time

Yelp
Visiting Halifax in July means a greater chance of good weather and lobster season. The time when these tasty crustaceans are at their prime and the reason Café Lunette offered a special Ooh La Lobster ($54) three-course menu. But to start, an oyster ($3) to sample Nova Scotia's array of seafood. It had a sweet finish, the restaurant using a lemon herb mignonette studded with chives, which wasn't too pungent and just lightly flavoured the oyster. It was a much better starter than the lobster bisque that had a bitter aftertaste. At first, I thought the bitterness stemmed from the Pernod, an anise liqueur, used in the soup but finally tracked it down to the crackers of all things. Once you scoop those out, the remaining soup was a bit salty but edible and incorporated a lot of lobster throughout. The lobster spaghetti uses thicker strands of pasta and sauce, so everything sticks together well. The spaghetti had a great chewiness and while it doesn't look like there's a lot of lobster, the seafood was cut into small chunks and sprinkled throughout so each bite had a bit of lobster. It was a great main. You can see the seafood in the truffled lobster and mushroom roll, but the truffle oil was too overpowering. I only had one bite and already my mouth was flooded with so much flavour that I can't imagine having an entire sandwich. If you love decadence, you'll want to try the lobster roll. No lobster was used in the dessert but there was seaweed in the lemon posset. While it's an interesting maritime addition, the seaweed does add an earthiness to the posset that's an acquired taste. The consistency of the dessert was nice, almost like a panna cotta but thinner since it doesn't incorporate gelatin. The sea salt caramel crème brûlée was very rich and somehow both very sweet and salty. It's a bit much on its own but when combined with the lemon posset the tanginess earthiness of that counteracts the flavours of the crème brûlée nicely so we ended up eating the desserts together. Café Lunette's cute atmosphere made us feel like we wanted to stay there and chat forever, the dining room is open and airy but there's still a sense of privacy as ample space is given between tables. They are also so friendly - much like Halifax's general populace - our waiter coming by to say goodbye as they were handing off shifts for the evening. We had a wonderful night and what a sad ending when we finally had to bid the café and its delicious lobsters au revoir.

Yelp
My husband and I were visiting Canada, and Halifax was on our itinerary for a couple of days. Cafe Lunette was the best food experience that happened to us during this trip. All other restaurants were very nice as well, considering the service, and the food quality, however this experience was so good that after having a breakfast at the Cafe Lunette, we returned back the same day for the afternoon desert. We loved its cleanliness, great interior, authentic French quisine, the squeaky clean cups and plates, and unbelievably wonderful taste of food. Thank you!

Yelp
3.5 I am struggling with how to rate Cafe Lunette. I have stopped in for a latte and croissant for several days. Absolutely delightful, perfect croissant. I stopped in for lunch. I had the french onion soup - which was also delightful from the first scent to the last spoonfuls. The croutons held up to the end, and the broth was hearty complex. I also had the chicken sandwich , which was just ok. The brioche bun seemed a little stale, the chicken a little tough, but the frites were yummy.

Yelp
Beautiful cafe. Great food. Small portions (not enough to fill you up) but the vibe is great

Yelp
Super excited to try this, as it was highly recommended - possibly for the pastry more than the food? I ordered a cocktail which was good when the long black hair got removed. I still had to pay for it:(. The tomato salad was minimalistic and had no tastable dressing or salt. The French onion soup was good, and served hot. Service is better than the food.

Yelp
I don't often write reviews, but this place was exceptional! From the Cocktails to the Dessert everything was top notch! If you like amazing food and phenomenal service this is the place to go

Yelp
Small portions, worse service... a menu meal will not satisfy you. They charged $17 for a little chicken to be added to a $14 Caesar salad. A $31 Chicken Caesar. The chicken was not white meat. Worse.... this reservation was for 5 girls ages 13-17. A birthday dinner... they just wanted to have a nice time together. One of the girls gifted a birthday cake. The business charged them $5 each slice to put the knife through the cake for them. $25 to cut a cake that the kids could've cut with a butter knife. The people that run this restaurant have no common sense. The girls paid the cake fee bc they thought it was $5 for the cake... not $25.

Yelp
Lovely decor. Open kitchen was nice. Food was reasonable, but not at the level I would expect given the price. French onion soup was great. There were long waits from the kitchen for mains despite not being at full capacity. The deep fryers are in the open kitchen, therefore, there was a strong oil smell in the restaurant that stayed in our clothes.
