We had a nice (but chilly) visit, there were some good dishes and great wines. However, I was not expecting small plates with big prices in a place like this, and indeed the quality does not justify the price. Dishes were not very special with some odd combinations. We also waited half an hour in between courses. The wine made it a lot better, selection was really well done. But with the same budget you can dine at some excellent restaurants in Amsterdam.

We really wanted to like it, as the place itself is very nice and service friendly. But the dishes were underwhelming. Most of the courses didn’t taste very good. And two middle dishes were soupy, making the main portion unsatisfying in texture. Loved the wine selction though!

Cafe Modern restaurant review. The restaurant is hands-down my favorite in Amsterdam. I’ve been once a year for five or more years and I’m never disappointed. The dishes are interesting and some are simply fantastic. The service and the vibes are great. I’m a fan of the surprise menu and the unhurried pace.

This is for the restaurant only, which is - for years already- a very nice place to have dinner. The staff accommodated our time schedule (train) perfect and the 5 course dinner was really good, including great wine pairing. Lovely evening.

We didn’t stay at the hotel, so this is just about the restaurant: Great food, tasteful, beautifully presented, but still ‘real’ food, not just something that looks nice. For me, especially the well balanced acidity (often lacking) in all dishes was a highlight. Wine list is interesting, extensive, and very affordable by Amsterdam standards. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. The restaurant is spacious, good sized tables, pleasant atmosphere. Price-quality wise it is hard to beat. So, what’s not to like.. go there!

I just had one of the best meals, ever! The ambience of the space, the pride shown by the service staff, and the love put into preparing the food by kitchen brigade. Cafe Modern, Amsterdam is located in Amsterdam Noord on Meidoornweg. They serve food that is as local and seasonal as possible. With set menus of 5, 6, or 7 courses each meal is a surprise for the guests based on the produce of the day. For my visit I enjoyed the following dishes, all full of fragrance and flavour. Tomatoes with Wim, tomatillo salsa, smoked kelp ice cream.l Smoked mussels, onions, umami del mar, fennel & mussel mayo, verbena, fennel ice cream Chioggia beetroot roasted in salt, lava, koji beurre blanc, black walnut ketchup Pork belly, leek, mayonnaise, pickled zapalito Blueberry, lilac ice cream, goats curd, plum, almond crumble, marigold oil

We didn’t stay at the accommodation. This is a review for the restaurant. We chose the five course menu- every course was imaginative, original and very tasty, service was very attentive and there were several options on the wine list by glass and bottle.Highly recommend!!

We went there for a drink, with our 15 month old son. Then, wanted to have some food for him & they were super flexible and nice about the options. The employees were very friendly and the food was delicious. Thank you!!! :)

Well done. Casual atmosphere - upscale food for sure. Wine list was great. Overall we had a great experience with the coursed presentation of the night. Do this!

Had a excellent vegan dinner here on a Tuesday night! best service experience in Amsterdam. Great vin naturels and a chef and maitre that clearly know what they are doing! It was superb, with 50,- for a fixed menu its not cheap but WOW worth every penny. The menu changes quite often and can be adapted to your dietary needs. The only downside is the noise level, some soundspoofing would make this place heaven. PS its situated in a former bank and you can now visit the safe!

3 min ferry ride from central to north and then 3 min cycling to the restaurant. The building was a bank originally and they kept some design elements. Summer time you have a choice to sit outside. They serve 5 course and it's a fixed menu costs 40 euro. All dishes & service was the best in Ams so far.

Exquisite dining experience in Amsterdam Noord. This place alone is a good reason for taking the ferry across the Ij river.

Fantastic food with a welcoming service. The location is great as well. Might be a bit noisy but this also adds to the atmosphere. The only criticism is that extra fee you had to pay for the cheese platter was quite high (14,50) compared to the menu (42,50).

Worth the (free) ferry across the IJ to North Amsterdam. The restaurant only offers a 5-course menu at €40 but each course was delicious. The location, in an old bank building (check the old safes in the basement) is original, fifties design. Recommended. Make sure you call in advance as has become very popular.
