"Koningsdag: A Royal Holiday for Party Animals In a city that prides itself on its reputation as Europe’s Sodom and Gomorrah, Koningsdag (King's Day) is the one day of the year when everyone gets f*cked-up. It's when Dutchies honor their monarch by parading down canals in festooned boats, dancing in streets and getting smashed to techno-tunes blasting from disco stages. With King Willem's 2013 coronation, Koningsdag will be celebrated on April 26, 2014—a day earlier than future years because the new king's birthday falls on a Sunday. Koningsnacht (King's Night) will be celebrated on April 25, 2014. Join party-goers on Warmoesstraat, gyrating to pulsating street bands. Belly up to the bar at Stones and admire the barristers over pints of Heineken. Don’t get too f*cked up if you want to get a jump start at the next morning’s Vrijmarkt (free market), when all of Amsterdam turns into a giant garage sale. Would you part with €1 to guess a fat lady’s weight? Or let a child serenade you in Vondelpark? Or throw an egg in a stranger’s face? Have a go on Koningsdag, when entrepreneurs of all ages trade old treasures and new talents for cash. Jostle for a spot on Prinsengracht to watch buff gays in skimpy attire and beer-swilling locals on decorated boats. On Rokin, breathe in the aroma of grilled kebobs and marijuana smoke. Hold on to your hat as you spin on an aerial swing at the Dam Square carnival. However you spend Koningsdag, it's easy to friends wandering the streets, and poking into bars and coffeeshops until dawn."

A nice cosy warm pub right in the middle of the red light district of Amsterdam. Atmosphere is always busy. Decor is like an old boat. Overall good. But the beers are super expensive. Expect to pay at least €10 for a big draught. Not worth it at all. Feel like they are just over charging without a menu.

Unique establishment with some outstanding decor! The atmosphere was great! The view of the canal was great! The bartender was great! Definitely worth stopping in. From a wayward sailor to another, thank you for the hospitality!!

This place is great. The bartenders are great guys and the atmosphere is like being on a ship. It's in a great location and the drinks flow fast and frequent. I also got a cool shirt. Yeah!

They overcharge tourists (maybe others too). I was charged €20 for two pints of tap beer, it wasn't a special. I later checked their menu online, there is nothing priced over €8 a pint on tap. Having read the online comments from others, it seemed pointless getting into an argument about it with the owners or staff, it appears they do this scam and then expect you to accept it. Recommend you avoid and find somewhere else to enjoy a pint without having the feeling of being ripped off. Nice view from the seating outside.

Café Old Sailor is exactly the kind of spot you hope to stumble upon in Amsterdam. Located right in the heart of the Red Light District, it has that perfect mix of local charm, great energy, and a welcoming atmosphere. The staff is incredibly friendly and makes you feel at home the second you walk in. The drinks are strong and reasonably priced, and the music keeps the vibe lively without being overwhelming. It’s the kind of bar where you can talk, laugh, and actually enjoy the night. Loved the nautical theme inside — it gives the place real character. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick beer or a late-night hang, Café Old Sailor feels like one of those must-visit classics in Amsterdam. Definitely a place I’d come back to and recommend to anyone visiting the city!

Great jovial pub in a sea of high priced bars. Grab pint in heart of the heart of the famed red-light district. If theres no seating, dont fret, standing room is a plenty.

Good pub in the red light district of Amsterdam. NOT A PLACE TO TAKE CHILDREN as there are plenty of 'windows' opposite the pub with 'sights' to see! Close to a canal, it's a nice place to watch the world go by.

If you are looking for a laid back pub with the best staff...look no further. This is a must stop for me whenever I am in Amsterdam.
