What should have been the cherry atop a very nice visit to the Dom area of Cologne ended up on a sour note.
We were there for some warm beverages and sweet treats, and the ambience seemed enticing.
It seemed most of our soon to be unpleasant experience stemmed from our actively hostile waitress, a Frau Teixeira, according to her name tag and our receipt.
She interrupted one of our party while ordering, stating "I know what you mean, you don't have to explain it."
To another of our party, who had brought in a mostly empty Coke bottle and a pasty bag from another store, grabbed them from the table and shoved them under her coat.
Menu items were brought with rolling of her eyes, pointed side glances, and with no effort at even basic civility.
Upon paying, she stared at the amount pointedly, which obviously lacked any gratuity, and left without a word.
If you missed her name the first time, let me remind you. Frau Teixeira.
Oddly, as we were exiting, a manager of sorts (?) was refusing entry to a male patron because he was wearing shorts. Sexist? Homophobic? Who knows? We definitely felt like it was supposed to be a privilege to indulge in average quality, rudely served, shiny tourist dessert.
