Cafe Rio Fresh Modern Mexican

Didn't receive the entire order. It frustrating when you are required to quality check an order yourself. When you pay $48 for three meals you'd expect the order to be correct. Not to mention you pay extra for steak burrito and get bean and rice burrito with one piece of meat. For that price we'll go to Costa Vita and get what we pay for. Definitely wont be going back to Café Rio.

I have been going to this location for over 10 years and it’s unfortunately gone pretty downhill the last few years. Food is usually pretty good (if they get the order right- the last 3 times I’ve come it’s been wrong), but the service is always pretty poor. Customers are definitely treated like they are an inconvenience just for being there, especially if you try to use the Cafe Rio loyalty app because that requires 1-2 more extra steps for them. This is the closest location to me and while I love cafe Rio I’ve been really disappointed in this location lately.

I should have checked the reviews before I stopped by this location. Absolutely horrible. The young girl taking our order could hardly speak any English. And remember at this location extra meat means regular meat and regular meat means they barely put anything on. These folks were trained really well on keeping their costs down from corporate or they’re just clueless on how to make customers happy. Not friendly, poor customer service and skimpy portions. If you’re going to continue raising prices (even though beans and rice cost very little), then you ought to raise your quality and level of service. Or is that a result of “inflation” too? You’re lucky you have brand recognition, this location would fail in a week otherwise. I bought 8 meals for $115, seriously should have bought the ingredients myself and made a 10x better meal for everyone. So sad, this use to be such a value and taste so much better back before they put profits over people.

Went to this location for the first time the other day and the staff was super friendly and welcoming, and of course the food was delicious.

Food for my pickup order has gone way down hill in the past months. I order the same thing once a week and they keep forgetting to add something here and there from the ingredients. Also sometimes the dressing has been really watery along with what seems like the water wasn't strained out of the beens. This makes me sad because this was the last reliable place to get good quality food. The proportions have gone down a little as well. I'd say something to them but I'm afraid what someone might do if I complain.

Only ones in the building but the service felt rushed with poor serving sizes. Salad was fresh but looked sad compared to what I get at the valley fair cafe Rio location. Barely gave me any lettuce and protein. Overall clean location but might need to tighten up the loose ends on who’s working the line.

Went with a large group at lunchtime. Had to split up because not enough empty tables were together. I guess that means business is good. A bit noisy as usual.

This place was incredible! I wish there were more locations around the country. The premade bowl options are great suggestions. I also recommend getting the app so you can get some deals!

Cafe Rio's quality of food has really gone down over the years. Everything is bland and their tacos are soaking wet. My mom came to visit from California and it's been YEARS since she's been back to SLC, but she remembered this place because of their sweet pork tacos. I personally think it's too sweet but she absolutely loves it. She orders it again and says it was flavorless. I ordered some steak tacos and it's drowning in the beans juice and wet salsa. From ordering from the counter and bringing the tray to my seat, the taco shell was already ripped in half and I ended up using a fork and knife.

Most horrible service ever!! All I wanted was a simple bean and rice burrito with some cilantro and onion simple right??? Noooooo I got a bean and rice burrito with no onion with cheese which I not request and to top it off I got the whole cilantro stems as I took a bite as I'm swallowing I almost choked. Like really!!!!! Great flour tortilla that's all

The last three consecutive times we have been here our order gets done wrong and we get home and it's not even close to what we asked. Today same thing, I ordered a chicken tostada but to substitute for a flour tortilla. I got home and they did not do what I asked. I didn't care because I was hungry but then the food was extremely salty. I couldn't even eat another bite. I had to drive another 10 minutes back to the store to have them remake it. When I did the guy didn't understand what I was telling him and I had to speak to him in another language. Then after they remade my food, he yelled, "HEY" at me while I was less than 10 ft away from him. Like seriously? Who are yall hiring? I'm a manager at a dental office and looking at all the reviews and how I was treated I would have done something immediately to correct this. We aren't coming back to this location. I just got home and the chicken it's SO WATERY. They didn't even strain it, I was just eating chicken broth. I cannot believe this.

This cafe rio was amazing. Great customer service, kind staff, and very clean and good atmosphere. Coming here anytime I want Cafe Rio!

Been here a few times recently. Great manager with a kind staff. Even saved some horchata for me before it ran out, and that's a main reason why I come here.

Mexican food is like, 80% rice and beans. How the hell do you f*** up so bad that you not only forget the beans in an order, but you forget the rice too? Legitimately dumbfounded by my interactions with staff here. I unironically trust McDonald's with my order more than the people here

When I arrived, I went to use the restroom and saw an employee at the urinal. They failed to wash their hands before returning to work. I saw them a few minutes later preparing food for a large order, handling tortillas barehanded. They appeared to be a team lead, as they were also directing other employees on what stations needed attention.

My bought food online showed up they didn't have the food ready. We finally received the food take it home and in my brother's burrito there is a metal hook in it. We called they didn't care we wrote a complaint to their website they didn't care. So don't go here if you want to end up with metal in your food and where they don't care if you end up hurting yourself with whatever they left in the food.

Large dining area, generous portions, well-prepared ingredients. Overall this location compares favorably to others.

If you order from this Cafe Rio on DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc. just plan on not getting everything you ordered. This location is the absolute WORST! Their in-person customer service is very hit-and-miss as well. They act like they're put out for doing their jobs! Love the Rio, just not this location. They're a JOKE!

This was a good stop while on a road trip. We were able to customize our orders and have a decent, quick lunch. The restaurant was clean, the food was fresh and the staff was nice. Thus, It checked our boxes for the days need. Thank you.

We had great service, they served little portions of lemon pie and everything was delicious

We had a new server at Cafe Rio. He was nervous and only put a small amount of meat , sauce and cheese in my tacos. I was disappointed because we all pay a good amount of money for a fair serving of the portions. The fellow in front of me received the smallest burrito I have ever seen served at Cafe Rio. I was very disappointed that visit.

Yesterday I went at 9:20 pm to buy a salad and a burrito and a Latin girl was very rude disrespectful she attended a bad service honestly it was my first and last time I went to that restaurant the girl had a bad attitude she started yelling at me she gave me my very salty food I told her to give me her name and she told me not to care I understand that all the people who work restaurant need to have their name to know who serves us

I would give 0 stars if possible. Messed up on my food. Put cheese in my side of guacamole when I did not ask for cheese on it. and tried to charge me twice for the extra cheese and ended up never even getting my extra cheese since she wanted me to pay extra for something I had already paid for. Do not waste your money at this terrible establishment.

Horrible service!! my order was wrong and when I was still in line I told them about the issue but they blamed me and they did not want to change my order, I ended up paying for something I didn't even wanted. The rice was not even well cooked I hurt a tooth

If you layover in Salt Lake City airport, THIS IS the place to visit. The line is long with Delta flight attendants and pilots alone, along with passengers, always at least 20 people in line... Don't stress, the line is moving quickly. Delicious salad bowl, burrito, taco and everthang! Breakfast or lunch you can't get better food than this in this terminal, unless you don't like Mexican food! Or don't like bean! Remember, my hubby always said: "the more you toot the better you feel." So eat your bean HA :) Good food, freshly made, cheap eats! Just because you are traveling, doesn't mean you have to eat not-good food! Now when making travel decision, I often consider a layover in Salt Lake City!

Stopped in here for lunch back in march. A friend suggested we eat here, as their quesadillas were amazing, and he was right. I liked the assembly line set up, it went fast . If ever back in SLC, will stop in

Went in last night around 8pm and the place was filthy. All the trash cans overflowing with trash, dingy, needed wiped down. 4 employee (young kids) standing at the table right beside it not making any effort to empty or clean. All were laughing and joking with each other. After getting my food (Soup was cold) we couldn't find a place to sit. The majority of the tables were dirty, sauce still smothered on and around the tables, just very nasty and not cleaned or wiped. They seemed to have plenty of people working, but you could tell nobody was in charge running the place making sure all these things were taken care of. Front doors were in badly need of Windex, finger prints and mushed hand prints all over the door. Cleanliness is my first impression and these place filthy! So...if they take no pride in keeping the place clean, how is the food prep and storage?? Makes you wonder.

I was so pleasantly surprised with this location. Unfortunately they gave me my wrong order going through the drive-through but they were so kind and so fast to remake my order and also gave me a free drink and a free quesadilla for my son the manager and employees are all so so nice definitely will be sticking to this location from now on

I don't know what my deal is with Rio, but I can't seem to find a good location. 1- I loved that this location has a drive thru. Makes it a ton easier to just drive thru, but I was annoyed today when the gal who rang us up asked for a tip. The card reader now has a tip option. Are you serious? I don't agree with that at all. It's a fast food drive thru. I know it's optional, but it shouldn't even be an option! WTH! 2- the pork salad was fantastic, just didn't realize we ordered it with the option of a lady bug in it. Yup, there was a dead lady bug in our salad. I know this happens and probably a lot more than we ever realize, but gross. Glad is was a lady bug and not something worse. Not certain if it was in the salad or the dressing

I have never heard of Cafe Rio until today. My options were limited in my terminal & I opted for the Mexican fare over the American because their line was long (thinking the food is worth the wait). I was right--I didn't even think to take a pic of my food until I had scraped the container damn near clean. If this chain were in the Midwest they would definitely give Chipotle a run for their money! My burrito was larger and packed with fresh toppings. I'm a fan now :)

I have been to my share of Cafe Rio's, but this one stands out as he most inefficient and rude. Since COVID I turned to ordering online, my order is often made Incorrectly and I typically let it slide thinking whatever, they are busy. The one time I decided to bring up the fact that my order was completely wrong, I was confronted by an overly aggressive staff member who instead of offering an ounce of empathy simply gave me a disgusted look, dumped the food in the trash can and proceeded to shove food into another to go container. At the end I was more embarrassed for wanting to get what I paid for, than the staff member who was rude and inefficient. The kids working there need an attitude adjustment.

Food ok but there was a chicken bone in my chicken enchilada. Glad I didn't swallow it or would be in the ER tonight. Someone needs to be more careful shredding chicken meat.

Worst cafe Rio in Utah. Workers are rude, got my order wrong. I ordered nachos and did not want the queso, just the normal shredded cheese. The nachos were terrible from here! How can someone actually mess up nachos

Very disappointed. I ordered online to avoid having to you go through the line or wait in the building. I got there five minutes after they told me my order was ready, they could not locate my order so they told me to wait while they remade it, I waited over 20 minutes for a salad and finally asked again, where was my order. They told me once again they must have missed placed it and they would start the order again. It took over 30 minutes in the building to get a salad that I had ordered 25 minutes prior to my arrival online. Everyone else who walked in the store was served before my order was even made. When I finally got the order, the salad was wilted, the limes smelled like mildew, the guacamole was missing, the tortilla was incredibly stale and they forgot my dressing. The staff were all just standing around and joking with each other, counters were very sloppy. I will not revisit.

Was really hungry and looked around for a place that said open. This location has it listed as open until 11pm so I walked in at 10:35pm. It is Saturday night and I was hoping food to still be there. Talked to a guy packing up some sauces if they were still serving food and he rudely pointed me to the lady who was scraping and cleaning and said to order at that end. There is no food on the line and I am told to order from the poor lady working hard cleaning. Cafe Rio has been one of my favorite places to eat but this man needs to first show some respect for his female workers and learn some customer service. This place is now on my no eating list.

Came here on July 2 for an early dinner. Upon walking in a lady who works here quickly walks over and stops in front of me and ask can I help you. I told her I am ordering food. Oh ok you are good. (I almost wanted to say I'm here to have a party what do you think I'm here for) I ordered the steak burrito enchilada style w/ chips & Queso . My total came out to $18.57 which isn't bad. I go to Cafe Rio all the time in Vegas so I know how the quality of the food is. I ended up taking my meal To go so I can go back to my hotel and eat. The only thing I notice was the steak was cold which I had to warm up. But the Queso was steaming hot. I rated this place 3 stars due to the the steak being cold and the employee quickly blocking me to entering this restaurant

Honestly, I don't even know why I'd want to review a chain. You know their burritos are good, I know their burritos are good... It's no secret! This is a great new Cafe Rio. It's neat, tidy, and the food is of better quality as compared to other Cafe Rios in the valley.

Nice place, great service, great food. Maybe a bit pricey but the portions are large and very filling.

Online takeout order for 4 said ready in 10 minutes. Arrived on time and order hadn't been started yet. They prepared food pretty quickly. Got back to work with the order and it was missing tortillas. Also salads had about three bites of meat in them. Very skimpy. Called for refund and they said I would need to come back to the store or give them card number, address, email address and order number. Being at work didn't have the extra time. Bad experience.

Came in early before the rush. 11:15am sat at the front of the linet waiting to get service. Waited even longer. 5 min passes and the guy finally said can I help you. I guess on line orders are more important than saying "Hi be with you in just a min" Gets my burrito in the oven and I am waiting to pay. The guy there must be related to the other one. No hello no nothing. Foods getting cold and this guy again is more interested in the on line orders and not customers that are in front of him. He finally gets to me after like 3 min of waiting. Swears in Spanish and had I think is a manager come to another register to ring me up. She did no know what she was doing I had to swipe my card 4 times. Yes 4 times. Each time the machine said authorized. Now for the food. Other locations know what they are doing. This one does not. Food tasted old and not fresh. It should all be the same right? Wrong. Meat didn't taste fresh and seasoned. Beans hard and stale. Not sure why but guess they had to use old stuff. I will never come back here again. Poor service and poor quality of food. Fail here!!

By far the worst! Customer service I have ever received, several times I was ignore when it came to requesting what I wanted on my order. Employee seemed to just want to get me out of the way by adding what they thought I wanted and not giving me a chance to add what I wanted. At the end I was charged for a sauce I requested from the beginning but now It was extra because I didn't ask for it at the beginning

This review is for Cafe Rio located at 5567 W, High Market Dr, West Valley City, UT - The service at this location exceeded our expectations today. We really enjoy Cafe Rio food and my husband's shredded chicken burrito for lunch today was delicious, BUT grabbing a quick and reasonably priced lunch with great, friendly service seems to be rarer and rarer these days. Thanks to the staff for making a work day break bright! You all ROCK!!!

Came into this cafe rio for first time and they have the worst customer service can't stand how the Mexicans act towards other Mexicans here also my husband and I ordered the tostada and I asked both with their fire grilled chicken and she walked away to get the tostada shell than came back and was ready to just add rice and beans without asking if we wanted both or one another thing she started putting the shredded chicken and when I corrected her about putting the wrong chicken she said well you didn't say grilled and I have no more tostadas than I compromised and just reconfirmed to put the grilled chicken on the other tostada instead I asked for sauce and she said it's extra than she passes it to the other employee and he was rude as hell I asked him about a certain sauce to see what kind of ingredients it might have and he responded with it's dressing well come to find out it's ranch and I'm allergic to ranch so thank you for giving me an allergic reaction all because you don't look like you know customer service I hate the west valley food establishments they act like customers work for them the food presentation super sloppy

The quality at the West Valley location has gone down a lot. With my order tonight I got the "extra meat" option in my salad because the salads I've gotten in the past hardly had any meat in them, so I figured I'd be safe and pay extra just so that I could get some meat, hoping it would at l least be what the normal portion is. The joke is on me, not only did I not get any extra meat, I barely got an 1/8 of a cups worth. I wonder if the employees are told to do this on purpose so the customer pays more but gets less, making a bigger profit for Cafe Rio. This isn't the first time this has happened to me at this location. To add insult to that, the rice and beans were missing , so my salad was just lettuce and a tortilla with a whisper of pork. NOT worth the $15-$16 price.

Went to this cafe rio on my lunch and ordered and shredded chicken burrito. Didn't know that a bone was included in this? About 3 bites into my burrito and I bite into a bone? This isn't acceptable.

STAY AWAY !!!! This was my first time at a cafe rio. My steak tasted like the was a public bathroom chemical smells. That just the start of what happened. They could not get the order right even though I was standing right in front of them. I just wanted to leave but didn't want to be rude to my friend who took me there. On my friends order she had a $10 credit her meal came to $7.99 and they would not give her a drink. I about lost it when the girl working there said "hmmm no". We took our food and literally ate at a different cafe rio location. No joke. Just to find out that the tomato's were frozen. Meaning the food storage temps are not right. I should call the health dept. I had to throw away my salad as it tasted so bad and the meat was off. I will NEVER dine at another cafe rio

Good food but when I order online it takes 3 to 4 times longer then the estimated time given. Always waiting 30 mins in store for them to finish an order that was supposed to be ready when I got there.

Online order Fire Grilled Steak salads and burritos to go. They said that it would be ready in 25 min. It took 1 hr 10 min for me to get my food. I ordered at 8:53, got my food at 10:05. And they ran out of steak!

I ordered on Grubhub at 8pm and my driver got there 40 mins later and it still wasn't even started. He waited for 30 mins after. Kid needed some extra cash and this took almost an hour of his time. This is either a management issue or very poor employment.

DON'T EAT THE MEAT!!! I have enjoyed every Cafe Rio restaurant I've been to until coming to this location... First of all, the meat was not butchered properly!! My husband and I both had bones in our chicken burritos and I had a long piece of tendon in mine.... One of the bones got stuck in my throat and I was gagging for several minutes. Both of us had to throw away our food. Second of all, they lady who made our burritos needs to take some tips from Costa Vida because we got literally a 1/4 cup of lettuce and very small amounts of pico and guac shoved into the corner. A good portion of our burrito tin was completely empty. The burritos also had one scoop of rice and very little sauce. Food portions are minor compared to the horrible meat experience. Do not eat here.

this is the second time to this location in the last month and the worst grilled chicken burrito both times. this place is going down hill.

Great Fresh-Mex food. Addictive even. The pork salad is a favorite and I'm not a salad girl. When someone suggested that to me, I thought no way is that going to fill me up! But it is HUGE. Everything is excellent with vibrant flavors. Got picky kids with you (or even the non-picky kind)? They offer FREE kids quesadillas! Can't beat that!

I got some chips and queso today and the chips were so nasty. They tasted so bad, it was like eating old oil.

Great stuff love the sweet pork salad fast delivery with yelp if you haven't already tried it do it
