"Behind a massive bougainvillea vine that covers a century-old mansion on the corner of a quiet, cobbled street, San Telmo’s Café Rivas evinces an elegant, 1920s vibe—but the food is decidedly contemporary. The menu is short and to the point. Three prix-fixe options are posted for lunch and change daily to delight a claque of assiduous regulars. Standout items at dinner include a nightly ceviche special and the dry-aged beef. There’s also a Sunday brunch with traditional favorites like eggs Benedict. In the evening, a bartender arrives to serve up cocktails, and there’s live piano on weekends. By Travesías"

We walked pass this little gem and think it is cute, let’s try and we were glad we did. The foods were delicious and the service was great. Will recommend to people if they are in the neighbourhood.

We’ve jumped in only for coffee and some dessert, but the staff treated us like honoured guests. Really nice place in a good old style - great to rest for a while during long day. Special star for Ella above the window :)

Best brunch I've had in BA so far. The empanadas are a must have. Pear Salad was excellent as was the Eggs Benedict. Oh and do not miss the Chocotorta - do NOT.

First, the bad…the hamburger was dry and overcooked. The pastas could have been hotter. However, the pear salad was AMAZING as well as the pappardelle and the raviolis filled with goat cheese. The bartender could have been a little more generous when pouring the wine. All in all, a really great meal. Gorgeous interior.

Tasty vegetarian food in Buenos Aires is hard to find, unless maybe you are in Palermo. This is a gem of a place in the bustling San Telmo. It has a chilled ambience and the service is very pleasing. Limited choice for vegetarians, but what you get is so tasty, fresh and good quality. I came back here twice during my 3 day stay in BA.

Absolutely the best bistro in Buenos Aires. Best food, best service, excellent selection of music. I’ll come back here a thousand times.

Enjoyed this little cafe. I ordered the arepa and was very pleased. Coffee was also good and looked like they had some decent wines by the glass available as well. It has a real old world feel inside with all the wood

Beautiful little café with very friendly service. It's great for coffee and snacks and you can even sit outside in a protected tent.

Yelp
Fantastic spot that we stumbled upon our first day in Buenos Aires. We've been twice so far and loved it. Great menu. Creative bar. Great wine selection. Awesome service. Cozy atmosphere. Beautifully decorated. Food was so good. Risotto. Filet of sole. We will go back in a few days to try more. Servers are so friendly. Smooth jazz goes perfectly with the almost speakeasy vibe. You really must try. Even if its just for a drink and a snack. So comfy and friendly.

Yelp
The service was so terrible as our waitress repeatedly forgot about or ignored us throughout our time there. Even though we were greeted by a gentleman as we entered, the waitress never showed up again to hand us menus after she came over in the beginning and asked if we wanted lunch (and we answered yes). We were on the verge of just walking out after sitting there forever without getting any attention, when the guy who first greeted us saw the situation and gestured to the waitress that she attend to us. Apparently there's no menu; rather the waitstaff will tell you the three items they have for the day. The prices are very reasonable, and the place has a cute European ambiance with windows all along the walls. Fish and morcella were among the items available that day. I'm not sure if I'd return after the nonexistent service and our constantly having to flag down someone to get anything done.

Yelp
Oh, I love this place. It's got such a cute, comfortable feel to it and so wonderfully calming with a piano and clarinet playing jazz music a little bit each hour. We had the amuse bouche, a bottle of wine, coffee, and two desserts... A lemon pie and a thin cookie with layers of dulce de leche between. We found both desserts to be overwhelmingly sweet, but someone said that was common in South America. Their bread basket was a stunning array of different items, all of which looked delicious and not dry. The atmosphere is so wonderful for a low key night that I would come back anytime. They take credit cards as well!

Yelp
Classical Cafe in San Telmo. After checking out the market this cafe offers a look into the old days of classic Buenos Aires. Across the street the famous tango bar. Where Anthony Bourdain made part of one of his segments.coffee tea and desserts.

Yelp
My favorite meal in South America so far after 10 days of traveling and eating out. The cafe has great ambiance with mostly jazz music in the background, service was above par for South America, and the food was tasty. There was only three options for lunch and included a drink so probably not good for people with dietary restrictions. The meat in my burger was a bit over cooked, but it was well seasoned. The chocolate tart with mascarpone ice cream was delicious. There was also a very nice display of baked goods that I didn't get to try.

Yelp
Stopped by for brunch while checking out the nearby San Telmo market and was not disappointed! The ambiance is very cute and perfect for Sunday brunch. We did not have a reservation but were seated promptly in the 2nd floor area of the restaurant. (Apparently, 1st floor seating is only for reservations). We order both sweet and savory brunch dishes but our real winners were the sweet ones.

Yelp
Fantastic ambiance and very friendly service. Have some gourmet tea, a glass of fine wine, a cocktail or a grilled cheese sandwich. Everything was delicious.

Yelp
The best way to sum up Cafe Rivas is, mouth-watering, scrumptious, delectable awesomeness! I believe the owners are French, not entirely sure though. Their food was some of the best food I had in BA, in fact we went there 3 times! To start get the Tinto Negro Malbec, it's inexpensive but in the states you could compare it to a $60-$70 bottle of wine (restaurant price, not whole foods price). They server bread that is out of this world, as an avid bread lover, it was hard to find good bread in Steak country. They had awesome focaccia style bread. For the main course, ravioli's, out of this world. Steaks, mouth-watering. Whitefish, awesome! Lamb, always on the menu, never available. It didn't matter they had such amazing food some we did try twice! As for the service, it was impeccable. They remembered us when we returned. Always treated us like we were great friends visiting their home. The restaurant was very vintage Parisian, in a good way. Overall, this place is a must GO!!! It's located in the San Telmo barrio, art district. You can't get better than Cafe Rivas!

Yelp
I had a horrible experience. My friend and I went for a late lunch, with a limited "cafeteria" menu of empanadas and sandwiches. It took over 45 minutes for 2 empanadas to be served. After a long wait we decided that was enough and asked for the bill. Owner claimed I paid with a counterfeit bill and requested I repay, I was returned with a completely different bill. I confronted the owner and insisted to take back the fake bill. He then physically assaulted me and locked me in the restaurant, pressuring to pay again. People outside noticed the chaos and I was able to get out. BE AWARE OF THIS HORRIBLE PLACE.
