Cafe Roots-N-Kulchah

So we're not vegan or even vegetarian, but this place is worth seeking out if you come to Fredericksted. On the day we came, the menu was limited to two items and each of those was delicious. One was the emperor burger with cassava bacon!? The patty was bean based and, yes, the bacon was smokey. The curry stew with black forbidden rice and a fried cauliflower were craveable. It came with a deliciously dressed salad topped with shredded fresh coconut and a slightly spicy bbq sauce to dip the cauliflower. We loved the lemon anise drink to wash it down. For vegans, this place is a no brainier, and it should be a to choice for the rest of us too, because the food is so good and flavorful.

AMAZING vegan restaurant!! The food is incredible, prepared by owner, trained chef, and Cruzan local Kimba. His food won the Taste of St. Croix island wide, non-vegan food annual food festival. That's how good his food is. Each day there is a daily special plate, homemade juices, and vegan ice creams. This place is a gem!!

I was so excited to find this place. The atmosphere is lovely with shade and a nice breeze. The food is very flavorful and comforting. If I were staying in St. Croix longer, I would be coming back again and again!

Amazingly delicious! Once you walk in, you forget the world outside. It relaxes you in an instant. The owner is extremely talented and has a great vision. The food was so delicious I will definitely be making it my lunch spot a few times a week. Healthy vegan deliciousness!!

Best food I've had in years. I rarely enjoy going out to restaurants because there are few vegan options and they are usually mediocre. Finally! A place I can recommend! Everything we had at Roots-N-Kulchah was great. They also had a musician playing some nice music. The atmosphere was nice.

Im not even vegan but this place BUSSSSN!!! So good I ate there two days in a row. Clean food energy that leaves you feeling great after. 10/10 recommend!

I tried this lightly curried brown lentil vegan pate dish for the FIRST time. It was HIGHLY recommended via word of mouth. I purchased it for my family and it was LOVED by each. The balsamic salad was delicious. I will definitely re-purchase this pate vegan dish on another Thursday. The coconut lavender & lemonade local juice was also HEALTHY tasting. I recommend that exquisite juice for gourmet tasters! It is very much an acquired taste. The Lavender definitely gives it a nice twist, but it's NOT toooo overpowering. Friendly helpful staff. Friendly cultural atmosphere if one wants to eat in OR take out. Of course as a side note, let's NOT forget the owner who prepares these appetizing gourmet vegan/vegetarian cuisines is a qualified CHEF. That's an added BONUS! Ohhhh by the way, the owner is a real visionary. He does EXCELLENT woodwork. His carvings of various roots & kulture arts & crafts are AMAZING!! His natural wooden cups, varied natural calabash bowls, coffee filters, pipes, etc etc etc... are allll reasonably priced. They make memorable souvenirs or gifts. Ensure you do NOT leave his cafe before asking this multi-talented chef/artist about his beautiful roots & kulture artifacts!

I was just passing through Christiansted town and spotted this hidden gem just off the main road. They use the charlkboard method for their menu and that means that it changes frequently. There were a lot of items I wanted to try on the menu, but they were closing. So, I settled for a Strawberry / Dragonfruit icecream and it was amazing!! There's only 1 guy running it and if it's gets packed, it can be a little wait for your food. But I saw many people smiling and eating, which makes me think that there's good food here. After speaking to the owner, he said that he's been cooking for over 20 years and that explains his diverse menu. This IS outdoor seating and it's kinda small, so that and possible mosquitoes are the only drawback I saw so far. I'll be back for sure!!

Roots N Kulchah is a hidden gem on the island of St. Croix. Nestled off the Main Street, this cafe is big and bold, with tons of island culture. The menu ranges from savory to sweet and tons in between, all made from vibrant veggies and clean ingredients. The staff are friendly and each dish is made with love. We had the Emperor Burger w/ sautéed onion, shiitake mushrooms, local cucumbers, tomato, lettuce, cassava bacon, and house salad AND the Vegan Saltfish Wrap with sweet potato fries, and house salad. No complaints here!!! Don't sleep on the roots when you travel to this beautiful US Virgin Island!!

He's moved this restaurant to downtown Christiansted. The menu changes every day and everything is prepared fresh and hot (if cooked). One of the only plant based restaurants in the area and super worth the 10-15 minute wait for your food. The owner is also super nice and has the best island vibe!!
