Nice artistic cafe with exceptionally friendly service. We dropped in just a few minutes before closing, but we have got a full meal and nice service, despite staying way after hours. Very attentive and friendly personnel. Nice sandwiches, generous portions. The soup was delicious! Thank you guys for your genuine hospitality!

This is such an amazing place to have great meals, healthy and nutritious. Their portions are very generous. The food is tasty, delicious and satisfying. Then we came back for tea (great selection of teas) and cakes and by the way the coffee is excellent. The staff really connect with you and they made our visit memorable. What an incredible atmosphere. Very grateful. Thank you.

Google
One of our favorite thing in Sintra! This cafe is amazing. The staff was caring and adorable with us. The ambiance was cosy and lovely. Food was good and generous. I had the smoked salmon sandwich with a cup of tea. Everything was good! Probably the best place to eat in Sintra! Also the price are very reasonable for the area.

Picked up some pastries to go on our way to the train stop and couldn’t be happier! We didn’t get to dine in, but the cafe appeared very warm and cozy. Would have loved to dine in if we had the time. Highly recommend the scones!

Google
I love this place! Their food and desserts are so amazing and the portions are huge. One sandwich is enough for two people. The stuff is very kind and even took the time to let me order in Portuguese! The indoor space is very cozy. Hope to come here again!

We went out of the high season and had a great experience! It was not crowded and the waitresses were very nice! We ordered cheesecake and apple cake and also sandwiches (salmon and anchovies with goat cheese). They were very large portions and not expensive when compare it with other restaurants in Lisbon!

While in Sintra Café Saudade has become our go-to spot. In the midst of the tourist traffic this place felt special and welcoming. There’s something magical about it.. the atmosphere, the eclectic feel, the cosy details, not to mention the deliciousness of every single ordered plate and pastry (try the Apple Pie…. 🤯❤️). It just feels like the place is yours, and you’re not a visitor but an integral part of its’ story. The cherry on the cake was the ceramic shop hosted inside, where we got a few colorful sardines to decorate our home with.. thanks, cafè Saudade! Lovely place!!!

Google
This was a delicious breakfast right near the train/bus station! We ordered a few different things to share, but really liked the trio of traditional pastries and the codfish quiche. The lemonade and the orange peel and cinnamon tea were also great!

Yelp
Great stop for a coffee and toasta mista (grill cheese and ham in a panini press). Very affordable and so good. Coffee was a Bombom (half condensed milk and double shot of expresso), no need for sugar with this one.

Yelp
This was about 5 minutes from the train. We got breakfast here before heading to Place of pena. Service was good.We ordered the scone, croissant, cappuccino, Smoked Salmon Sandwich & Iberian Prosciutto Sandwich. Both sandwiches were XL & came with Mozzarella, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickled Red Onion & Olive Oil. Sandwiches were simply but very delicious. You can taste the quality of the ingredients. Overall, a decent place for food. Price was fairly reasonable

Yelp
Quaint cafe in Sinatra. Parking wasn't bad, just a short walk. Sandwiches are enormous!! Share if possible. We had the Iberian and Pheasant sandwich with a chocolate scone. Way too much for three but we wanted to try it all!

Dimitri D.

Yelp
Talk about major portions! I was highly surprised buy the quality/quantity I received. The apple fritter lacked the sweetens, but it made up for it with the size of it. The panini was very scrumptious and would challenge anyone to finish both those items in one sitting.

Preeti R.

Yelp
Average food and service. Sandwiches were good but avoid the baked goods. The lady at the counter approached our table 3 times in the first few mins of us arriving even though we asked for more time. The local Sintra pastries were stale and we should have just been informed that they were out of freshly baked tarts. The ham and cheese open faced sandwich was good and the serving staff was kind and friendly but the older lady at the register sure wasn't. It also took a really long time to pay the bill.

Yelp
Sadly not a fan of this place. We stopped by here for breakfast before exploring Sintra. Got a small pastry and the quiche with salad. The pastry was not very tasty and was not hot. For the quiche, you get a choice or cod or spinach. The cod was unique so I got that. It wasn't the tastiest quiche I've ever had, and it also wasn't crunchy. Some parts of the quiche were hot and some parts were cold, so that's always a no-go.

Sonia S.

Yelp
Our lunch was very fresh and tasty! I had the quiche and salad my husband had a ham and cheese panini, both were delicious. The portions were substantial.

Yelp
Cute breakfast and lunch spot in Sintra.service was great, food was good and a very convenient location with cute interior. Bombom coffee( condensed milk and coffee) was good. Hubby had some breakfast sandwich and I had a scone with jam and butter. Scone was warm and yummy. Had a lovely time here.

Yelp
Cafe Saudade is located within walking distance of the Sintra Train Station. My boyfriend and I arrived early in the morning for a trip up to the mountains to visit the National Palace of Pena. As we were trying to catch a driver, we noticed this cafe from across the street. Since neither of us had breakfast, we stopped in for coffee and a quick bite. From the menu, we ordered the ham and cheese pressed croissant, a black pork mini pie, a portugese egg tart and a espresso. Everything arrived within minutes of ordering. I never thought of pressing together a ham and cheese croissant but I'll definitely do it from now on. The mini pork pie was average in my opinion. It was lacking in flavor and the shredded pork was somewhat dry. My boyfriend thought that the egg tart here was better than Manteigaria's but to each his own. They also accept cards so huge plus for that!

Yelp
The perfect place for lunch in Sintra, centrally located by the train station, yet not at all touristy or overwhelming, a nice oasis from the craziness of tourist central. It has a nice hipstery vibe, with four different rooms, more of a coffee shop atmosphere, yet the historic charm of the 19th century building. The menu is limited, but wonderful: there are some pastries, a selection of teas, a small number of wines, other refreshing drinks, and then a small number of bites, paninis, and salads. I got to sample both cheeses, one of which was a delicious, light fresh cheese, not unlike a queso fresco, that was mild yet lovely; the other was denser, sliced, and covered on the outside seemingly with paprika and other mild spices. I preferred the lighter, fresh cheese. We also had the garlic bread, which used as the bread the Portuguese version of the English muffin, which was lightly crispy, much better than the "English" version, and a nice density. I shared two paninis, the one with signature Portuguese canned tuna and fresh veggies, which was tasty, just the right amount of saltiness, and the one with Portuguese canned sardines, fresh cheese, and tomato, which I found just lovely. The sardines weren't very salty, and they were meatier and much larger than what Americans typically think of as sardines. They went really well with the tomatoes, and it was really a very delicious panini. All in all a charming and perfect lunch spot. If you have kids, it's also very kid-friendly. There are two little kid tables in the main room of the cafe, one set up with a bunch of books, the second with a kids' tea set and some toys, along with colorful kid-sized stools. It certainly kept the kid at our table quite entertained. There are also two high chairs and a changing pad in a large, clean room next to the bathroom.

Yelp
Best pastel de nada thus far in Portugal. Service was great and the atmosphere was quite nice! Grab a snack on your way up the hill or when you come back down or both!

Michelle B.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast and the waitress was so sweet!! Would recommend to have more gluten free options since my friend has Celiacs and cannot eat gluten. However, she ended up getting the yogurt parfait and liked it. The fresh cheese was delicious (kind of like a mozzarella).

Yelp
Straight off the train from Lisbon, we stopped at this "little" shop (which turned out to be quite a bit larger) for our morning coffee. We decided to try the local galão instead of our typical cappuccino. Great choice! As we've never had it before we had nothing to compare it to, but it was a nice wake-me-up nonetheless. Right as we were finishing a large group came in and turned this place into a sh*t-show, so it took a little bit of time to pay. But that's hardly their fault... Nice "little" cafe...

Jessi F.

Yelp
Right outside of the train station, Saudade offers everything you'd want in a coffee shop. It's cute and cozy. (It was also surprisingly kid friendly, with children's toys etc.). We had a couple of croissants (one with butter, one with ham and cheese), lattes, and orange juice. My croissant was a little over buttered, but other than that, everything was great! Highly recommend.

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
A perfectly charming bakery and café located close to the train station. The staff was warm and welcoming and the food was delicious. My sister and I enjoyed our tomato, mozzarella and olive oil paninis on crunchy delicious toasted bread. My only suggestion would be to add a little drizzle of a balsamic vinaigrette reduction sauce to the top or to have on the side for a little added flavor. And if you're a smoothie fan, definitely order one of their delicious -not to mention HUGE- smoothies. My berry smoothie was delicious and my mom really enjoyed her banana one. Oh, and make sure you do a little scoping of the desserts. They had an apple tart with sliced apples and graham cracker crust that was to die for! I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Sintra!

Eva Y.

Yelp
Cute cafe to stop by for coffee or tea and food or pastries. It has a tea house vibe offering coffee/tea sets and scones. They also offer a variety of sandwiches and traditional Portuguese pastries. I tried the sardine sandwich and it was divine. (So glad we ordered this as it was not a sandwich we see commonly being served in many places in Lisbon. I tried to look for it again for the rest of my stay in Lisbon and couldn't find it.) Prices are affordable and portion sizes are huge! Lattes are served in these tall cups and scones served on a large dinner plate. The restaurant is also kids friendly. I saw that they have toys for children. I only spent a day in Sintra and can't really compare with the rest of Sintra eateries. But based on the quality of their food, it is great option for a delicious breakfast or lunch. Also, there is wifi!

Evelyn Z.

Yelp
Love this place! Cute!! Historical just to think that the king would have baked bread from here! Must visit when in Portugal! Everything is delicious! The ambience is so cool and great for breakfast, brunch, lunch or just an after noon snack ... even an evening tea! Won't be disappointed! Be sure to visit the restrooms to take in the history of this establishment! Scones are delicious!

Yelp
This is a great cozy little cafe we stumbled upon in Sintra, Portugal. It's just around the corner from the bus station as you're waking to the palace. The tea is delicious, as are the pastries & the yogurt parfait is huge (and yummy!). Great service as well.

Tova M.

Yelp
This was a great place to have lunch while in Sintra! Café Saudade is a very cute restaurant, which offers coffee, tea, pastries, and sandwiches. I thoroughly enjoyed my anchovies panini. The anchovies were fresh and meaty, and the sandwich was incredibly filling. The sandwich plus an espresso was about 8€.

Brad S.

Yelp
Wonderful stop in Sintra! We popped in for breakfast before exploring the city and enjoyed it so much, we returned for a coffee and pastry in the afternoon. Wonderful vibe and great food and coffee. We sampled some of the local pastries, the quiche and the ham and cheese pressed croissant. Everything was amazing, including the building, the decor and the charming staff. Before leaving we picked up some pottery made by the local guild for friends at home. Wonderful spot that we still talk about!

Cortney B.

Yelp
We ended up eating here first then checking into our hotel. Luckily for us, our hotel was associated with the Cafe and we got to eat breakfast there every morning! The cafe is super cute and the staff very efficient, super friendly, and great English speakers. Our first meal in Sintra, I got the hot vegan hummus sandwich and I'm still thinking about it. It was so good. For breakfast every morning, they would take the standard breakfast and make it vegan and I ate every last morsel of it! I loved the feel of this place and the food. My omnivore partner could eat the pastries and the meats/breads endlessly. Highly recommend.

Tesha T.

Yelp
Favorite cafe in Sintra. Very friendly staff. Best coffees and lots of variety on the menu.

Sara A.

Yelp
Probably one of the best restaurants we ate at in Sintra. Food was delicious and the staff was super nice and patient with our massive food orders. There were many Portuguese options to choose from and I wish we had more time here to try them out

A C.

Yelp
We had a wonderful lunch here and I am still thinking about the delicious patty we had with almond cream! The owner, a friendly and charming Cuban gentleman, was nothing but hospitable and provided top notch service. This was a wonderful spot to grab a nice lunch before heading up to Pena Palace

Ravi R.

Yelp
Love this place! Incredibly cute, had the saudade coffee and pastel de nada, so good! Had to come back a second day with my little ones, I love that they put toys out for the kids. Pastries were so flakey and good!

Julia R.

Yelp
Great breakfast place with very friendly service. The Cuban owner of the cafe is super nice . The sardine sandwich and the galao coffee are absolutely delicious. This place is also close to the train station.

AK H.

Yelp
First off - this is not just a dessert place. Great breakfast and lunch! For 8 euro the breakfast includes a latte, fresh squeezed orange juice, 4 pieces of buttered toast, a yogurt parfait with fresh mango and strawberry and granola, and a flan pastry. Excellent value and fresh quality

Kathy O.

Yelp
Chose this cafe because it was one of the first ones opened in Sintra and near the train station! Enjoyed my morning coffee that was served with a beautiful smile and kindness from the staff! I came back in the afternoon because of their hospitality to finish my Sintra visit the way I started it! Thank you!

Anna K.

Yelp
Stopped here for a breakfast before heading up to the castle. Great breakfast. We had the quiche and some toasted sandwiches. Coffee was fresh and the pastries were great too. Service was a bit messy in that they messed up our order a few times but they were friendly and the bill was accurate.

Andrew H.

Yelp
This is a great cafe. The tea was very nice and the pastel de nata was great although not burnt on top like it usually is in Lisbon. The soup was flavorful and light.

Eli K.

Yelp
They ripped me off here! I ordered simply a latte and they charged me for the large latte that cost almost double the price. I kindly told them that I hadn't ordered the large and they angrily told me that's what I had so I must pay for it. I don't care about the one extra euro as much as the general rudeness and bad vibes I received here. It's right by the train station so the service is probably tired of tourists and as a result treats us badly.

Yelp
"Saudade" is one of those untranslatable words that roughly means "a feeling of longing, melancholy, or nostalgia that is supposedly characteristic of the Portuguese or Brazilian temperament." This name is what first drew us into Cafe Saudade. This cafe was the perfect place to grab a meal after our long trek up the hills to see the castles at Sintra. I had the Saudade coffee, tomato quiche, and my travel buddy and I shared the Portuguese-style cheesecake and chocolate cake. Everything was delicious and satisfied our post-hike hunger. The Saudade coffee was made with strong coffee and condensed milk, the quiche looked to be homemade with fresh tomatoes. The cheesecake was interesting and so unlike the American cheesecake I am used to; more dense and bread-like. The chocolate cake was incredibly rich and bittersweet, and was covered with a generous bit of ganache. On top of it all, the cafe is designed with a cute country charm and its walls are covered with little figurines and sculptures that you can purchase if you want. Loved coming here!

Yelp
Cafe Saudade was our morning stop for food in our second day in Sintra. Given it is in the main part of town, there is a reasonable amount of parking spots (if not availability, depending on the time of day) in close vicinity to the shop, including parallel parking right across from the cafe. We came in shortly after 11 AM, and although it seemed like we missed the morning rush, the service was a bit inattentive - we had to get a waitress' attention to come take our order - and we only knew what to order because there was a menu left on a different table; we were never actually given menus of our own. Perhaps it was just a reflection of the very relaxed, carefree feel that the cafe has to it. With windows thrown open, folks sipping on their coffee and tea and generally taking their time, it feels very much in-line with what a Saturday morning would (and should) be like. As for the food, we started with fresh orange juice; the freshness of the oranges is great in this part of the world, and my wife and I both drank up quickly. We both ordered a panini with the traditional Madeiran bread; I went with the salmon, while my wife did chicken. Hers held up arguably better than mine; the salmon ended up soaking through the bread rather quickly, causing it to be pretty soggy by the end and a little challenging to hold together. The salmon was paired with goat cheese and was quite solid, although I will say I liked my wife's grilled chicken a little better. Both were stuffed with fresh veggies and cheese (she had something along the lines of a melted Swiss, while I had crumbled goat cheese), giving it a lot of filling but not necessarily as much flavor as I would have expected. My favorite bite was the one we took to go, which was the mini pork pie. Even though we did not eat it right away, the succulence of the meat in its own juices was still delicious when we did bite in. It's very simply - shredded pork inside of a small pie crust, with nothing else - but at 1.8 euros, it is fantastic value for the flavor. In all, this was a nice spot to eat and get filled up for the day ahead. It was not as good as some of the other places we experienced during our time in Sintra, but it is a very manageable spot for cheap eats and a laid-back experience.

Yelp
Saudade is a very cute cafe in the middle of downtown Sintra. We thought everything was very cute and tasty but nothing was over the top amazing. We tried the ham and cheese hot sandwich, "fresh" hot sandwich and the "peasant" hot sandwich. All of which were good, but then again just average. Our issue was ordering the peasant which highlighted the chicken inside the sandwich, however when it arrived, we didn't get any chicken. The real highlight of this cafe was the chocolate monster cake topped with Oreo cookie crumbles and endless amounts of fudge and chocolate, definitely one to share! Our young waitress was very sweet and did a good job however no other employee was as friendly. Additionally we wanting to tip our individual waitress, however our tip just got thrown into a jar at the front and wasn't given to the girl. I would recommend to stop by for some coffee and dessert, however making an out of the way stop for lunch isn't necessary.

Mark S.

Yelp
This a really nice cafe with yummy home made cakes and good paninis. However the cappuccino I've got was just bad. The coffee in it had a burned and bitter flavor. Probably cheap coffee beans and a cheap espresso machine. I couldn't finish that cappuccino:/ This cafe needs also power outlets close to the tables and more milk options.

Josh H.

Yelp
Great little place - the house panini's were amazing, as was the carrot cake covered in chocolate ganache!

Stephen H.

Yelp
Best bakery in Sintra, and terrific service. We came in with group of ten just hoping to get seats, and they cleared out back room for us to sit together. Came back next day with smaller group; would come her often if I lived here!

annette p.

Yelp
I loved Cafe Saudade - the perfect ending to a magical weekend in Sintra. The food was delicious (I can't stop thinking about those scones) and the staff was friendly and helpful. Our waiter was a Cuban baseball player and super friendly! Cafe Saudade is not a place to be Saudade at all - it's such a happy place!

Laura G.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast before our trip to Sintra and we were very pleased! The restaurant itself is very cute and homey and everyone was very nice. Just got a ham and cheese croissant, fruit and yogurt parfait, and a traditional Portuguese pastry but it was a very pleasant meal! They looked like they had a good lunch selection as well and their pastry counter looked amazing.

Molly M.

Yelp
We went because of the reviews and it's true there is nobody outside hawking for tourists to come in, and it's true it's close to the train station. It was fine, ok, but not spectacular. We went for lunch and had two different kinds of sandwiches and shared the soup of the day, the service was good and the staff was friendly. I have to admit I put off when the Cuban baseball player asked me to submit a review, I guess that was in lieu of the hawker out front. As I said it was fine, easy to get to and served it's purpose.

Mark S.

Yelp
We LOVED this place! The food was just wonderful--great vegetarian options!--and the service was delightful. They treated us like family! Charming atmosphere, too.

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
Very friendly staff and excellent food and great prices! We went here for our first breakfast in Sintra and we couldn't have hoped for a better spot. There was wifi, which is always a plus while traveling, and the food was very filling. Their breakfast combos were a pretty good deal. Our Cuban waiter was especially helpful, kind, and helped us to feel comfortable. Thanks Cafe Saudade for a great experience!

Peggy H.

Yelp
We stopped at the cafe because our train back to Lisbon wasn't leaving for another 30 minutes. We're so happy we did. If anything, we were sad we didn't stumble upon the cafe upon our arrival in Sintra. This is a lovely cafe with great food, coffee, and good value. We didn't order much because we were in a hurry, but we did watch enviously as the tables next to us were brought delicious looking plates of food. Even though we only had latte's, juice, olives and cheese, the quality of these items were so good we assumed other menu items must be very good as well. Hopefully we'll get to try more on our next trip.

Laurie R.

Yelp
was a very nice place to eat - food was very good. very good hot chocolate. recommend to anyone visiting Sintra.

Dr J.

Yelp
Wonderful café with friendly, personable service, excellent fresh warm scones, and an outstanding lightly smoked salmon sandwich with capers, olives and shredded carrot and beet. Very nice fresh orange juice, and the winter herbal infusion is so light, complex, and nourishing. Close to the train station and easy to hit for a meal before visiting Sintra's sights. Can't wait to go back.
