I first stopped by Café Smit & Vogt for a quick beer the evening before, and it immediately had such a cozy, welcoming vibe that I decided to return the next day for lunch while exploring the nearby botanical garden. I’m so glad I did. The staff were incredibly friendly and warm, making the whole experience feel effortless and genuine. The café itself is adorable — charming, relaxed, and perfectly tucked away. They’ve got a great selection of beers on tap, and the Brie and roasted veggie sandwich was honestly unforgettable. I’d come back to Amsterdam for that sandwich alone! The view adds even more magic — you can watch the rails weave through a lush tunnel of trees and greenery right from your table. It’s peaceful, scenic, and feels like a little pocket of calm in the middle of the city. An absolute must-visit if you’re in the area.

I stopped by as part of a trip to Amsterdam and other areas of the Netherlands. I had the steak and it was incredible. In fact, it was up there with the best steak I’ve had! Thank you for a lovely experience.

I’ve been frequenting this joint 3-4 times a week, over the past 4 weeks, and it is great. Highly-recommended and a must-visit. The old-cheese sandwich in white bread is to die for, the orange juice is somehow always better than any other orange juice in town, and I don’t care what they say about fries, that magician with the headband cooking that great sandwich, makes the best fries ever!! Shoutout to all the cool ladies who work there, especially the one with the cool 80s playlist, who somehow decided to stop studying medicine and opted for Architecture somehow! I know crazy! Go back to medical school, girl and go back to playing the piano and the drums. Don’t ever STOP this time around! I believe in you!

Food prices are very feasible. The smoked chicken is deli style instead of a typical grilled. The Dutch style pancake was very good. The selection was small (three options). Service was good, friendly staff and didn't have to wait long. Overall I would eat there again.

Delightful. Stumbled across this lovely venue as it is adjacent to one of the restful Amsterdam parks. I had three meals here. The genuine hospitality, quality ingredients and value was outstanding. The goats cheese salad, ( so yummy I forgot to take a photo!) steak, home cooked cheesecake and croquettes were delicious.

Yelp
So, we had just finished the Rembrant house and we were on out way towards the zoo, but the crowds, thanks to the gay pride parade, were think, so we decided to pop into this cafe for a drink. Well, the problem was that this cafe was pretty packed, but we did manage to find ourselves a seat so that we could have a quick drink before moving along. The place is okay, though I wouldn't come here to go to the toilet on those really crowded days because there is only one and the line tends to be ridiculous. However, that isn't their fault because I suspect 99% of the time they only need one toilet. It was a nice cafe, but nothing about it stood out too much.

Yelp
This place is a local bar and restaurant, so if you're not in the area, that's quite alright. You can find plenty of cool places more in the center of Amsterdam. But when it is really cold out at night and you're stuck in a hotel across the street, this place gets the job done...and in a friendly manner. It was about 10pm when the urge for vices started kicking at me. And reluctantly, I responded. I put on more clothes and headed out the hotel door to across the street. There were only 2 couples eating and finishing up their evening. I sat down at the bar and the Dutch bartender was extremely nice to me. I asked him for a draught beer. He then proceeded to tell me about each one they offered. Most of his descriptions went in and out of my head. But, the last one he mentioned immediately made my brain light up. He said something along the lines of craft beer, dark wheat beer, locally brewed...and well I was SOLD! It indeed was a great glass of beer, tasty and creamy. Oh and if you're looking for cancer sticks, look no further than the cigarett machine upstairs, yes, they stil have one of those. The bartender downstairs will give you change if you need and a token that allows you use the machine (to keep minors from smoking).

Yelp
This is a nice spot for a light lunch or snacks. Menus in English. Staff was friendly. Good beer and wine selection. Moderate food selection, but seemingly good prices for Amsterdam.

Yelp
After two hours of Dutch lessons, when my brain is somewhere between fried and mashed potatoes, it doesn't take much to get me into a bar. So when my other classmate suggested we grab a beer I responded with an enthusiastic, 'Yes!'. Across the street from where we study is Cafe Smit & Voogt. The bartender was very friendly and entertained us by speaking Dutch to us as we worked through it :) I had a beer from Brewery het Ij (9% alc) for about euro 3.4. My classmate had a Westmalle trappist beer. We split some oude kaas (aged cheese) with tasty mustard. Then, feeling in the mood for something sweet, we ordered Bailey's on the rocks. Yum. The cafe is cozy, has a great selection of beers and snacks. Clean bathrooms. Friendly staff. For a Wednesday night it was busy but not full. This will probably become a weekly stopover post-Dutch lessons. Proost!

Yelp
This place was pretty average in my book. I think it serves more the local crowd with decent food rather than trying to attract tourists. The gnocchi which was served as a side to my meat was good but the plate really needed some sort of salad to balance out the plate. Or really anything, the plate was very fatty. If you are in the area and hungry don't shy away from this place but it isn't anything special.

Yelp
Nice view, terrible service. My husband and I came for lunch after visiting a few spots in the area. The server seemed overly flustered and helped others who arrived after us first. He finally takes our orders and brings the drinks quickly, however 35 minutes later still no food. When I asked he said he would check then went around the corner and waited. Neither of our orders were complicated so I am not sure of the delay. Finally 10 mins later food arrived. At least what was meant to be warm was warm and what was meant to be cool was cool. The gentleman next to us who came 30 mins after we had been waiting received his food at the same time..... We will not be back and I do not recommend anyone else stopping here.

Yelp
English menu, delicious food and very helpful bartenders who know the beer! We all got the buffalo mozzarella, tomato and ham sandwich. Delicious!

Yelp
Very friendly bar tender. He was very meticulous to make sure all of the glasses were spotless before serving them. He also spoke very good English. Did not have food but the beer was great and the food I saw looked fantastic.
