We booked a table at Sten Sture more than a month in advance for New Year’s Eve, hoping for a simple, authentic place with history and traditional food. We are tourists, yes, Italians in a big city, but used to modest, genuine restaurants and with no extravagant expectations.
Unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing and will remain a bad memory of New Year’s Eve 2026 in Stockholm.
From the very beginning, the service was unacceptable. Our table was the only one without glasses, napkins, tablecloth.
I politely asked for one tablecloth, and he reacted with visible annoyance, resistance, and finally placed it on the table in a rough way, looking at me and saying something like “Now are you happy?”. Completely inappropriate and humiliating.
The food arrived after a long wait, which we tried to understand given the date. However, the problems continued.
My partner asked three times for a second beer. It never arrived.
One dish we ordered never arrived at all:
We ordered a schnitzel for our four-year-old son, who was very hungry. It arrived extremely late, so he ended up eating from my plate first. When the schnitzel finally came, it was clear the staff were in a hurry and eager to close, rushing everything without care.
One of the two waiters, who was also working in the kitchen, later apologized kindly, and we appreciated his effort. Unfortunately, this does not erase the overall experience: poor service, missing orders, rude behavior, and a complete lack of attention, especially considering it was a special evening and we had booked well in advance.
A New Year’s Eve dinner should feel welcoming, even in a simple place. This one felt rushed, disrespectful, and stressful. Sadly, we will remember Sten Sture not for its history or cuisine, but for the worst New Year’s Eve dinner we’ve had.
It has been the worst restaurant where we ate in our 1 week's holiday in Sweden.
