On the Grid : Suicide Sue

"Despite the morbid title, Suicide Sue is a place of happiness in the form of waffles, freshly baked bread and Sencha green tea. The cakes taste as good as they smell so grab a seat, a magazine and treat yo’self." - Gabby Lord

Off the beaten path in Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood. Inside 3-4 tables and outside 4 tables for 4+ people. Laminated Menu with English translations was very helpful. Male server was happy to help me by speaking in English. Super friendly and welcoming. Delicious brunch served on Tiered platter of an assortment spreads, cheeses, meats, butter, and toast. Drinks were delicious. I had the special fruit Spritzer of Strawberries, Elderberries, Mint and sparkling water. So refreshing on a warm day. I would go many times again

Google
I love this place, particularly during weekdays! It’s incredibly busy over the weekend, so I actually would not recommend you join then. However, if you can come in for a coffee during the day Monday to Friday - it’s an exceptionally cozy and warm place with lots of yummy food and enough vegan and veggie options. My favorite is monkey milk - a peanut butter milkshake, and their spreads: the signature dish. Been here many times, and will come back more!

The design is so beautiful and makes you want to stay in forever. We ordered pancakes, scrambled eggs and coffee. Everything was good but too much salt and pepper in the eggs. Will come back to try more from the menu!

Google
We had breakfast here. The scrambled eggs were delicious and the coffee was good. Even though the portions are not big, they are enough to keep you going till afternoon. The staff is easy going.

Google
My favorite place in the neighborhood, I usually go meet friends there for breakfast or Brunch, they have an amazing menu for breakfast. They make their own home made dips. Their coffee is really good and the service is really nice. I recommend this place if you find yourself in Prenzlauer Berg

Google
The place to be calm and enjoy with loved one’s. It’s definitely worth visiting. The best part about the place is bread, it’s just yum. Their fresh orange was so good (might be hand picked oranges😉). They accept cash and Apple-Pay

Google
We had a nice Sunday brunch here and we’re completely satisfied. The mixed breakfast platter let’s you choose from a variety of spreads. Some definitely better than others but overall very tasty. Mixed bread basket was okay, although next time I’d order more of my favorite type of bread (the dark grainy sunflower bread). Coffee and chai latte were also very good and the boiled egg was perfectly done. The staff was very friendly. Only downside might be that you don’t get direct sunlight at the outside tables.

Google
This was one of the best breakfasts i have ever had. As always, i got myself a chai latte. Although it wasn‘t a "real" chai latte, it still tasted very good. I also shared some scrambled eggs and some kartoffelpuffer with my friend. I only have pictures of the scrambled eggs and coffee, but everything was delicious. You can tell that everything is fresh, and most importantly handmade. The atmosphere was great and the cafe looked very beautiful from inside and out.

Yelp
Meh. Pancakes were not great, and not hot enough. Coffee and juice were OK but nothing special. Looks like it's trying to grow into a health food spot. It's pretty small so i felt squished while sitting down.

Yelp
Nice tables outside but mediocre food and not very vegan friendly. Some of the staff seems nice but a bit of an attitude from one of them.

Yelp
Two weeks ago I was with my friend at this place for a breakfast on a busy Sunday. We were seated by the guy at the entrance to a table that was reserved but we should have around 1 hour time until next guests arrive. My friend received her order quite fast. Mine, however, was forgotten and I had to remind the guy about it. 5 min later I had my delicious rosti but coffee was forgotten again. After I reminded again about the coffee, the guy just said: you are seating at the reserved table, you should change your seat and I will bring you coffee or you can have your money back. Things like this happen, I understand, sometimes a simple apology makes wonders but I didn't receive it and my coffee:)

Yelp
****Sue 2 min for 2 ppl is marked at like 8 EUR*** however the price is actually double since, we were charged 8 EUR each. I think that was complete false advertisement. That is also a lot of money for just breakfast time. Some spreads were better than others. I did absolutely enjoyed my freshly squeezed orange juice and it was a total highlight. And the selection of cheeses were very nice. We had too much food and we actually couldn't eat it all. There was also a nice selection of meats that my husband enjoyed. I loved the look of the coffee shop which is what drew me to the place. But the prices are definitely why this place was empty.

Yelp
Cafe is very comfy! And has a good vibe to it! But what impressed me the most was the fact since they take cash only, and I had none on me, they'd let me go find an ATM! I think that is really sweet the fact that they'd be so trustworthy of a stranger:) Anyway! Thanks for waiting!:) Will make sure to come back next time I'm in Berlin!

Yelp
Great place and amazing ambiance. Really delicious vegetarian options. The waitress was super sweet and helpful. The homemade spreads we tried were delicious and the bread was fresh. The tea comes with a timer so you can know when it's perfectly brewed. I would highly recommend.

Yelp
Very cute place, I judge places by their iced coffee and here it was excellent. This is the perfect place for Students and Hipster.

Yelp
Came in here the other day to meet up with a friend who had suggested the place. I arrived a bit early and there was no seating, so I kind of stood around awkwardly and was not greeted for about five minutes. Finally, an unsmiling and perturbed guy stood behind the counter to take my order. I asked him if the Dr. Green (the only thing which had vegan potential) had milk products. He said it did, so I asked if there was anything else on the menu that didn't have animal products. He said no and just stood looking at me, not even offering something, like "Hey, maybe we can make you a bread with avocado and veggies" or whatever. Obviously my patronage was of zero importance, so I texted my friend and we decided to take our business elsewhere. So, if you're vegan, definitely don't come here, unless you like to eat fruit with a side of attitude. Also, not a big deal, but he also responded to everything I said in English, even though I spoke German, which is a huge annoyance of mine. Oh well. This neighborhood has plenty of other spots worth checking out.

Yelp
Nothing like a chick with an eyepatch and a sign declaring "Suicide Sue" to get your attention. I walked in and sat myself. I perused the English menu and soon noticed their specialty - spreads. They are heavily featured in the first section, offering several options, including brunch for 2+ people, that promote their spreads. I chose the veggie option which came with cheese, olives, tomato slice, rocket, 4 bread slices, bread, butter, and 3 spread choices. I selected turkey-pineapple-curry, beetroot-horseradish-apple, and brie cheese-dates. My favorite spread was the beetroot. It reminded me of a typical Christmas dish my mom makes. My least favorite was the brie-dates. It was a pungent biting flavor that wasn't balanced with the present dates. The most memorable cheeses were the fresh mozzarella and a taleggio-like cheese (creamy, slightly salty rind). Overall, it was a great meal. I enjoyed mixing and matching spreads to breads. My table also had 4 salt combination options - hibiscus, chili, saffron, and herbs (the hibiscus and herbs labels were switched however).

Yelp
Suicide Sue is a trendy, hip, original, and cozy coffee shop. Google their page and read the intro in English. It will give you an idea of the kind of place it is. It's the kind of place that makes Berlin special, and me love Berlin. Around the coffee shop you will find a wide range of books (from a super-hero encyclopedia to serious literary tomes), which are not only decoration. There are both shared and private party tables. Or you can just sit on the window bar. I came here on the dead of winter (-6°C), therefore I could not enjoy the outside seating. The hostesses are friendly, courteous, and sport a beautiful smile all the time. The coffee is good, the food is fantastic in presentation and good in taste. I ordered a Mafia-something and it came on a beautiful wooden board, and it was very tasty (and full of protein). It is the kind of place you come to NOT IN A HURRY, and please, not acting American. Chill, appreciate, enjoy. (I am American - I refer to our always-in-a-rush behavior.) ;-) Peace!

Yelp
One of my favorite breakfast cafes in Berlin. They have very delicious spread thingy. The cafe is pretty small so maybe you'd better go there early to get a table.

Yelp
Great coffee and service. Good breakfast and lunch menu too. Food is good, English breakfast was filling and BLT is delicious. Love to sit outside as well as inside, very cozy. Great workspace to take your laptop for a couple hours and get some work done. Cash only

Yelp
From the open faced sandwich with avocado cream, to the mini pancakes with maple syrup, the scrambled eggs which are served in tiny pans, and my absolute favorite: the flipper killer - a tuna melt sandwich, Suicide Sue is THE best place in Prenzlauer Berg to go for a weekend breakfast. I like to savour the food together with a good read, fresh OJ and a cortado (just not the sweetened one please! make sure you order the right one).

Yelp
Meh...is what I have to say. Walked by many times and finally went in. Nicely decorated, expected for P-Berg. A place with attitude. Suicide, oh wow! A chick with an eye patch and a katana. She'll kick your ass and make you a sandwich. Kapow! Not really. The espresso macchiato was okay. The eggs overdone and the baked beans grainy and under done. My wife's soup came out cold and had to be reheated. We ordered a salad but it never showed up. The bread and macaroon were good. They could use a little less coolness and hipness and focus more on getting the food right.

Yelp
We went for breakfast and were pretty disappointed. My husbands eggs were small in size for the price and just ok. My pancakes with nutella were just normal old pancakes with nutella in a side bowl. Service was a bit rude. Cash Only. Coffee ok.

Yelp
Came here in summer. Great place with some fantastic breakfast options. Homemade spreads even for vegans (not a fan ;o). Try the Sue 2 when you come with a friend or loved one and you cannot decide what to have. You just have to decide on the spreads you want with your breakfast. I promise there is something for everyone!

Yelp
I love this cafe. The best cafe/restaurant porridge I've had in 11 countries - the only better has been what I've made myself at home. Very good coffee and other breakfast bits. Very nice stafff,

Yelp
Every time I visit Berlin in the summer I make sure to come to this place because it is incredible. It's one of my favorite vegan breakfast places in town and I highly recommend it. The staff is incredibly friendly and the food is very very tasty. It's in a hip neighborhood and lots of fun people visit the café. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
Food was great and service was good. Very healthy breakfast and great selection. Had the Sue2 for 2 which comes on a nice platter and 2 scrambled eggs which they serve on your own personal pan. Lots of food for the value.

Jean M.

Yelp
My review is based mostly on the espresso. In short, don't go here for quality drinks. The roast is far too dark. The burnt flavor masks any complexity it may have had. Not to mention, roasting that dark usually is an attempt at masking poor beans. They should source from better roasters. I liked the shop otherwise, which is the only reason it received 2 stars. I like the novelty candies (although they are overpriced), and the environment is cozy and friendly.

Yelp
One of my favourite cafes in P-Berg! Cozy, welcoming atmosphere. Great, fresh, tasty food with a few veggie options, always beautifuly served. Delicious porridge! There's pretty good WiFi so you can work from there too.

Yelp
I loved everything about the place! We got the Frühstück Sue2 für Zwei. The orange juice was freshly squeezed, the bread was fresh, the egg was perfectly done the way I liked it and the whole atmosphere of the place was very cosy. The service was excellent and the staff spoke perfect English. My personal experience was really good and we would definitely be coming back! :-)

Yelp
Boo suicide sue. Your coffees are small and expensive. You called my boyfriend a pessimist, as if it was the first cup of coffee he ever ordered. You guys are just plain rude. Your waitress snarled at me because it was so busy, there was literally nowhere for me to move. You guys are pretentious and not cool at all. Why not be grateful for a booming cafe instead of rude to your customers. Go away!

Yelp
This place is such a hidden gem! I found it by accident while browsing Pinterest posts about Berlin. The food was so tasty!! The lime-horseradish cream cheese spread was heavenly and my café au lait was perfect . The staff were very friendly and spoke English fluently. The inside is very charming and comfortable. I wish my stay in Berlin was longer so I could visit again!

Yelp
Very nice sandwiches and Coffee....the staff is very friendly and relaxed. A bit pricey but the prices are not too shocking and typical for the area.

Yelp
Today was probably a bad day at Sue's. Staff was 3 strong and there was no communication at all. Resulting in cold eggs for me while my girlfriend didn't have her order. My tea cam in but her fresh orange juice didn't. When she finally got her order it was the wrong one. We left while saying this was a shame, they didn't respond AT ALL. So yeah, this was suicide. We had breakfast somewhere else. Conclusion: always serve your food at the same time. The main thing you can do wrong is not communicate to the staff. It looks like you don't care.

Yelp
Very trendy breakfast spot in Prenzlauer Berg. Be prepared to share a table with strangers. the homemade pastes and bread are delicious. great interior design and location!
