On the Grid : Café Tunichtgut

"Small plain café where local creatives meet. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu is small, there is a main dish changing daily. All the meals (i.e. pasta, risotto, fish) are prepared fresh and taste delicious. Nice prices. Have a look at their facebook site for the daily menu." - Das rote Paket

I love this place! It’s a hidden gem in Leipzig. A very trendy café with a hipster vibe, perfect for young people. The staff here is super friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious, and the prices are really reasonable. It’s especially great to visit when the weather is nice so you can sit outside and soak up the sun.

Absolutely a delightful place! I had a truly delicious and unique quiche, with leeks and mushrooms, and a freshly prepared perfect salad to compliment the quiche. My coffee was also done to perfection. The ambience is artful without being fussy and the service was as pleasant and helpful as one could hope.

I stumbled upon this cafe on the way back to the hostel from the bar next door and came here the next morning for brunch. I thought that I had come too late, but on weekends they serve their breakfast/brunch menu all day. The best part of the brunch was the homemade lemonade I had. Absolutely spectacular on an abnormally hot day in late September. The eggs I ordered were presented well in their cast iron skillet and tasted as good as they look. Lastly, speaking only English, the servers were accommodating in giving me extra time to figure out what everything was. It is important to note that only one of the staff spoke English that I could communicate with.

We spent a lovely evening at Café Tunichtgut with decent drinks and tasty food. N.B. You can have the breakfast menu until 21h30!

A lovely place for breakfast or supper. Staff is super nice and there are a lot of cheap and tasty options. They use local ingredients, everything is super high quality. Pictured here is a 4 people breakfast for $6/person.

This was exactly what we needed! great creative food, everything organic (!) and cozy interior. We had the savory French toast and the tomato scrambled eggs. Would definitely come again - highly recommend.

Very cozy place with authentic door :) One of my two favorite coffee places. Always warm, friendly and tasty.

Unfortunately, we didn`t feel very welcome at the Café Tunichtgut. We arrived around 8 p.m., looking for a place for a few drinks. The waiter/the waitress looked at us entering, but didn`t even say hello, and it took around 5 minutes until someone took our order even though there wasn`t much going on (only a few other customers, all of them set at the moment). When our drinks (the special drink with pear and a Negroni, both very tasty) were empty, no one asked if we`d like anything else. Seems like they are not looking for new customers. Since the cake looked good, I'm going for three stars even though we didn't eat anything there.
