Chick-fil-A Plots Yet Another NYC Location in Midtown - Eater NY

"But East Village’s Cafe Zaiya has closed. The Japanese cafe and bakery shut down late last month following health department violations, and it is now gone for good." - Serena Dai

The atmosphere is great. The decor is wonderful. The food is good but I'm not sure it was worth the price they were asking. I guess it is Manhattan prices. I'd you want soba and you're in the area then this is place to go

Definitely the best place to get cream puffs! Their location off 41st is amazing too!

I absolutely love Zaiya! The mochi donuts are out of this world. Every chance I get, I make sure to visit (and they're open early so I stop there first). The staff are really nice, too!

Great place for Japanese baked goods pastries and food. They have rice balls at very good price, but it does run out fast. Very little seating so best as take out for lunch.

I love getting prepared food here, the sandwiches are perfect. The pastries are good too. I miss their old curry and donburi, however, the rice with quinoa is ok but not as sweet as before and the curry is not thick enough.

Love Zaiya, I've been coming here for years. I used to go to college across the street and both students and teachers used to take breaks during long classes to go to Zaiya. Decoration seems to change a lot, but there's a small outlet to charge a phone, and they have nice crispy onigiris (not the squishy kind they sell at Panya down the street) and green tea ice cream. The staff is always super nice and in good spirits!

I like Japanese bakeries because they make fluffy soft pastries! Zaiya makes pretty good buns and my favorites are the curry bun, Japanese hot dog bun and spicy tuna bun. They also have Japanese tea drinks and cakes.

Ate breakfast and lunch here for 4 years and never tired of it - the pastries are perfect for a morning bite and their selection of sandwiches, rice bowls, onigiris, etc. are great for lunch. The staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable. Highly recommend!
