"Sit on the wooden porch in the small piazza Caffe degli Specchi has a wonderfully warm feeling inside, so it's easy to feel comfortable sliding up to the bar and standing with the locals while you drink your morning cappuccino. Or, take your time enjoying your drink on the wooden porch out front while overlooking the crowds moving towards work in the small piazza below. Either way, the coffee here is rich and dark, so make sure you ask for 'zucchero' if you like yours slightly sweeter!"

My go to place for cappuccino and delicious croissants when in historic town in Genova. One of the places where you can drink your cappucino like a Genovian, dipping in foccacia. Their croissants are amazing.

Great for coffee and pastries at affordable prices. Great location and seating area with a lovely view of Genovese old town. The staff are amazing and kind. I always try to learn the language of the country I visit and practise with the locals, the blonde staff member (I forget her name sorry) is always patient when I attempt to speak Italian and also responds in Italian, helping me with words/phrases that I struggle with. Whereas many shops and staff in the city refuse to speak Italian if you’re not fluent, the staff in this café are patient and encourage your learning, and that for me is priceless.

Very nice 100 years old rooms and pleasent terasse outside. This place was a poultry shop before becoming a cafe in 1917. Service and food quite good.Typical atmosphere. You can discover two beautiful rooms even at the 2nd floor. (Forget the bathroom.)

Perfect! One of the only places near centro storico open in the late afternoon for something to eat. The meatballs and mash were just right, enough structure and taste. Croque monsieur with goat's cheese was not too big, very tasty and warm and with a small side salad. Nice beer, wine and espresso. Friendly service and fair prices. Seating also inside and upstairs.

My husband and I have been to Genoa four times and we always stop here. Either for the amazing sandwiches at lunch, I still think about the croque monsieur, or the wonderful aperitivo. We call it "the green bar" because it has a green sign outside and the terrace is painted green. I look forward to returning soon!

Yelp
The three stars are for the food specifically. I'd normally rate a bit less for the space and service but this was one of my favorite meals in Italy so I think it worth some of the grief. It was raining, so we ate in the upstairs restaurant. They surely made the most of their space! The bathroom under the stairs had a door blocked about a quarter of the way up by the stairs themselves. In the restaurant, there were only two other taken tables at the time, but if it were a full house this place would be an acoustic nightmare and we'd all be fighting for space and oxygen. The service was meh, but a bottle of wine can fix that. The menu was also meager - only 5 items to select from, but they were the specials of the day and prepared fresh so everything on that teeny tiny menu was incredible. As for the meal - YUM. I had the fresh pasta with locally made pesto. I may or may not have licked the plate. The focaccia with olive oil was a delicious accompanyment and I could have subsited the rest of my trip on that alone. We also sampled the roasted vegetable platter with cheese - also wonderful. Bottom line: If you have the time to just enjoy yourself, this will be a wonderful meal.
