This place is a vibe. Right next to the cathedrals in Piazza Vecchia in Bergamo Alta, tucked away in the corner is a nice caffe that can get busy at times. Great for a brioche and espresso in the morning or aperitivo as the sunlight dances along the facades as the day concludes, this place is great to leisurely spend your time, either by yourself, a loved one, or friends.

Very cozy and charming place. The location is great—very quiet and peaceful. The menu mainly features meat specialties. The food is incredibly delicious, beautifully presented, and satisfying to the senses.

We had a great meal – the food was good and the service staff were friendly and quick. We didn’t have to wait at all. We visited on a Thursday afternoon and really enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere, good drinks, and a comfortable noise level.

Even with their spectacular location & their historic reputation, caffè del Tasso authentically shines brightest thanks to its excellent service and delicious food. In 2025 I was there 6 times and every time was equally tasty, fun, and welcoming. Gianluca in the front of the house, Rose behind the scenes (and the bar) plus Chiara and frankly all the wait staff make every visit feeling like coming home for a meal with the family. Highly recommend Caffè del Tasso for your every occasion and taste. Looking forward to returning myself in 2026!

Yelp
Take in the magnificent views in the Piazza Vecchia in the upper town of Bergamo from an outdoor table in the Caffe del Tasso. The Tasso is a versatile double-fronted establishment; out of one door comes your coffee or other libation, your snacks or light meals; out of the other comes your ice cream or patisserie. The interior of the bar, too, is very nice: at the back there is even a comfortable lounge with armchairs, settees and stocked bookshelves if you wish to linger. None of this is apparent from the modest exterior. It is not the cheapest location in town, but the service is good, the snacks are tasty, the pastries are excellent, and the views are superb.

Yelp
This restaurant is part of the "Locali Storici d'Italia-Historical Establishments of Italy" because it began in Upper Town in 1476. The name changed in 1681. The restaurant has changed and my food was excellent. I loved their version of a Caprese salad and the polenta with mushrooms was excellent. I had a hard time eating my food out of aluminum pan because aluminum reacts with food and our bodies can't excrete aluminum. It is stored in our brains which causes Alzheimer's and brain tumors. (I have sold Alzheimer's pharmaceuticals.) I pray the aluminum pan was only used as a serving pan and was not cooked in the pan or the cookware in their kitchen is aluminum. A chef/restauranteur should know these facts. I loved my affogato. The birds are a little aggressive in the piazza and many attempts where made to eat the bread in my bread basket. Great location but the service petered out after my food was delivered.

Yelp
This little gem of a place in what is probably Bergamo's most famous square is an absolute treat at any time of day. Positioned in the heart of Bergamo's Citta' Alta, with perfect views not only of the square itself, with its stunning architecture and fountain, but also of the awe-inspiring Basilica San Maria Maggiore and the Duomo which peep out from behind the arches of the Palazzo della Ragione. This reasonably priced and typically Italian cafe provides a wonderful, cosy corner to soak up the atmosphere of the old town or hide away on a sofa and catch up on business or with friends. This tranquil haven also offers a much welcome opportunity to sample the traditional Bergamescan pasta, casoncelli; a delightful dish that has never disappointed! I have yet to venture into the gelateria but from my experience of the cafe, I have no doubt that it would offer the same friendly and attentive service and many delicious treats to tickle your tastebuds! One practical advantage of this particular cafe is that it serves food all afternoon where as most of the other cafes and restaurants in this part of town have a break between lunch and dinner. This is a useful tip for a starved tourist who may need a mid-afternoon munch after exploring the city and its exceptional views.

Yelp
On my last trip to Italy, this place was my favorite. Nothing fancy, just good, italian comfort food. I had the ravioli and a glass of wine. My friend and I sat outside and smoked cigars. Great for people watching, with beautiful views of the square. Prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly. Make sure you check this place out.
