Essential guide to Hiroshima, Japan - SilverKris

"Sitting on the bank of the Motoyasu River opposite the A-Bomb Dome, Caffe Ponte is recommended for sampling Hiroshima’s famous oysters — whether boiled, fried, grilled, in stews, with rice or raw — with the dramatic riverside view as a backdrop." - SilverKris

A perfect Italian Japanese fusion restaurant in Hiroshima. It blends the famous Hiroshima oysters into unique Italian dishes and presents them beautifully. The taste profile is complex and so delicious. We came for a full oyster course and we were not disappointed. Everything was perfect and the ambience left a deep memory of Hiroshima.

We had a quick lunch from this joint just before hopping on to the miyajima ferry. The staff was very attentive and helpful. Our order was serverd at super fast speed as we had only 40 mins for ferry departure. Setting of the restaurant is beautiful. We got a seat overlooking the waters. Pizza was not bad. The crust wad not as bubbly and cruncy as i had expected. But still taste was good. Late Coffee was super good too.

Located near the museum and in front of the start point for the ferry to Myajima, this Italian restaurant proposed some good pasta, pizza and others dishes. The pasta was well cooked, very tasty, I recommend the oyster one which is a speciality of Hiroshima. The staff was really friendly, speak english if needed, the menu is translated too. The atmosphere is good, there's also the possibility to eat outside. Take out is possible too.

Had a great meal here. You sign up to add your name to the list. We didn't have to wait long. We had pasta dishes that were delicious. There's a button to press on your table when you are ready to order. Would definitely come back here. Helpful friendly staff and the menu is in English too!

Google
Nice wee spot next to the water for simple pizza and wine- very reasonably priced and nothing wrong with it at all! just not the best pizza i’ve ever had, but definitely did the job for a nice italian in hiroshima

Google
The food here was delicious, and the staff were both professional and friendly. I appreciated the bell system for getting the staff's attention—it avoids the need for eye contact or raising a hand, allowing for a more uninterrupted dining experience. The atmosphere is serene and pleasant. Located just a 3-minute walk from the A-Bomb Dome near the bridge, it's conveniently situated. We spent about 4500 yen per person for a three-course meal and a mojito, which I found reasonably priced. However, the freshly squeezed orange juice at 750 yen felt a bit pricey compared to the alcohol. Overall, it was a great experience, and I highly recommend it.

Google
Touristy little cafes for the tourists from out of Asia 🌏 a small piece of home with sausage paninis and brick oven pizzas...but why eat this when you have so much great food in Hiroshima unless you are peckish while waiting for the ferry?

Google
Food was pretty solid, came out fast, and was well prepared. Tasted fine, nothing mind blowing, but they did have a dedicated gluten free menu for my wife which was appreciated as it’s tough to find in Japan. Staff were friendly and attentive! Restaurant was…odd. They sat us at a table with very dirty linens, which they asked us to move to a different table shortly after we sat down. “Great, a clean table” we thought, we were wrong. They put us at an equally dirty table only to change the linens at the table we were just at, and leave us at the dirty one. Couple of bugs crawling on the wall in the bathroom I saw as I was leaving as well. Again, food was fine but I wouldn’t go back.

Yelp
This is an amazing place. The best pizza I have tried. I ordered the risotto with oysters which was delicious. My husband and son ordered the pizza. One had a margarita pizza the other had the four cheeses pizza which was served with a side of honey. Both pizzas were fantastic just like the ones in Italy. The staff was very welcoming and we had great service. The ambiance is quite nice

Yelp
Lots of GF options and large portions. I got the squid ink risotto and it had a good amount of clams in it. My sashimi appetizer was very delicious, as was the fresh squeezed OJ.

Yelp
Sometimes you just in the mood forever some good old fashioned pizza. This place is great. The pizza was filling and tasty and a good reminder of home. #DukeOfEats

Yelp
Pros: Was neat and clean. Cons: Was a bit pricey. Food was alright. Portion sizes were small. One of the waiters was a bit rude as we justed asked if we can pay with card instead.

Yelp
Food was good. But I smashed a roach on my table as it ran passed my glass of wine. How gross!

Yelp
This is such a cute restaurant and is next to Hiroshima Memorial Peace Park. We came here for breakfast and I'm glad we did. We had a good meal, as well as the service. I wish we came back for lunch or dinner, well maybe next time we visit. You may choose to seat outside or inside. Outside seating is nice and relaxing, you can watch people passing by or simply just enjoy the beauty of nature and the river. I highly recommend this place. You won't be sorry or disappointed.

Yelp
My husband and I spent 3 hours walking around the peace memorial and park and desperately needed somewhere to sit down and rest for a bit before our next (walking) tour! Thanks to the Yelp app for helping us to find this small and quaint spot. We sat down outside (the weather was beautiful) and were able to people watch on the river while we ate! My husband got their home-made ginger ale which was light and very refreshing. I got a pot of English milk tea, just enough for 2 cups of tea, and we split a small pizza for a snack. The food and drinks were delicious, the service was as attentive and hospitable and we couldn't beat the view. I wish we could have sat there longer but a line started to form - evidence that it is a happening spot!

Yelp
Got with the sets. 1180 Yen. Tasty and good price. If you try to piece it together ala cart, it will be about 2000 yen. Nice place, sit outdoors by the river. Only downside (if you think it's a downside) is that place is full of tourist. Not may Japanese.

Yelp
If youre in Hiroshima, enjoy a quick lunch right by the water. As sonber as this location may be, its truly relaxing to enjoy a drink or meal right by the water. its location is also great if you plan on hoppin on the ferry to go to the Miyajima Island. Must gets? Share an oyster pizza with someone for lunch--its comes with a drink too! The desserts are tasty---one being the tofu ice cream. what a surprise, i thought i wouldnt like it but it was great. The green tea/matcha parfait is great too.

Yelp
The cafe has such potential, but things that bother customers, such as, waiters or waitresses forgetting orders or being incredibly slow... happened. My friend and I arrived around 11ish, ordered coffee, and 15 min go by and we still haven't received it. We decided to cancel the order and just order the set lunch instead, since the coffee would be cheaper. But it wasn't only with us, this cute old couple seated behind us, also waited about 15 min and they needed to leave to make it to their tour bus departure on time. So they were upset about the wait time as well. The food, coffee, and gelato were all good, but be prepared to wait for awhile. Maybe check on the waiters to make sure they haven't forgotten your order!

Yelp
AMAZING LUNCH!!!! Amazing location. We took the world heritage sea route ferry from Miyajima and it dropped us off at the steps just below this amazing cafe. We sat outside near the orange stands and enjoyed every moment looking toward the river just a block away from the A-dome. Not only was the location & atmosphere magical, the food was some of the best we have had in our 17 days in Japan.

Yelp
Came here with the family in July after visiting Hiroshima Peace Museum. Perfect outdoor seating, prompt service, reasonable prices and great for people watching. Had Vegetarian Pizza, crust was thin and crisp, veggies cooked perfectly and lots of them! Highly recommend!!!
google avatar

Jay E.

Yelp
Great ambiance overlooking the river by the Peace Dome. Take the ferry righty across from the restaurant to Miyajima Island for an awesome experience! This is the perfect place to stop and eat after the Peace Dome and before the floating Tori Gate.

Yelp
Aside from being in a very somber setting, this restaurant has very good food and a nice outdoor seating area. Its a perfect spot to get lunch before heading to Miyajima Island or dinner when you get back. In terms of food, we had a few of the pizzas, the shrimp and mushroom risotto, and the seafood pasta. All were terrific. The risotto was probably the stand out. It was cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of cheese and seasoning. But every dish we ordered was very good and the price wasn't bad - about 7000 yen for 5 people. For the quality of food that seems like a deal. I had to knock one star due to the service. They bring the food out as its ready and must have forgotten the last dish because we had to ask twice for it. We knew the kitchen would be slammed because of a party of 20 that sat right after us, but the timing between the first and last dish meant someone at the table was either waiting for food or waiting for the last person to finish.

Yelp
Delicious European cuisine. Great oysters several ways. Excellent selection of wines by the glass.

Yelp
Really good Italian food. The roasted vegetables were so delicious. The carbonara was perfect. And I tried a slice of the eggplant pizza and it was also delicious. Nice place to eat outdoors. They also have indoor seating.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
I've eaten here a couple of times. I wasn't very impressed at either trip. While the location and open air seating are beautiful, the food is lackluster. I even asked the man next to me how his carbonara was because I was considering ordering it. He said it was just ok. A stop here is definitely for the location rather than then food.

Yelp
wow! what can i say. what great food with outdoor seating so has a great view. the caffe is right near the Genbaku dome. they have great pastas, pizzas, salads, risotto, desserts... EVERYTHING IS DELICIOUS! a must try when in hiroshima!!!

Yelp
We ate here on the way to the Peace Museum. The waiter was very helpful, and was able to communicate well in English. Our food was great, including wood-fired sausage and veggie thin pizza and seafood pasta with fresh ingredients on all. My son was not crazy about the caramel gelato which didn't taste like the caramel we're used to, but otherwise it was a fine meal and attentive service in a nice atmosphere!
google avatar

Andreas J.

Yelp
Great pizzas! Offered in three sizes served on a wooden plate. Also friendly staff and strong coffee, which I like as a European.
google avatar

Nicole N.

Yelp
Pizza was delicious. 4 guests and everyone enjoyed their meal. Three different pizzas and oysters (broiled) had fresh squeezed orange juice/mimosa's and mango mimosa's. Neither on the menu but they still made the fresh beverages on one of the hot days of this fall season. Carpaccio was spot on! I recommend this corner side cafe/restaurant to anyone looking to taking in the fresh air for lunch or at night. They offer pillows and blankets if you get a little cold. Nice especially in the cooler nights. But not needed on this hot afternoon. But with warm weather it makes enjoying the gelato that much sweeter! ENJOY!

Gretchen K.

Yelp
My husband and I ate here yesterday and the food was amazing! My husband is from Sicily and is very picky about his Italian food and he was so impressed! A great find in Hiroshima.

Yelp
The fish carpaccio and pizza were divine. Service is friendly and the establishment clean.Don't forget the dessert!

Yelp
Fantastic. Everything was perfect and delicious. Oysters were the best I've had in the city.

Yelp
Very pleasantly surprised with the European dishes. The seafood salad reminded me of Venice and the mozzarella tomato capresse takes me back to Tuscany. The olives and gelato were quite good too. The steamed oysters were not as good so I'm guessing you should stick to the European dishes here. For a riverfront location near the memorial, I thought the price was quite reasonable and I quite enjoyed my time here. I would recommend this place.
