Caffe Umbria is a great spot for coffee lovers looking for a cozy spot to work and sip a delicious brew. The small cafe offers a limited number of seating options, but customers with long stays can take advantage of the designated seating space just outside the side door. Not only is it tranquil and inviting, it's also a perfect respite from a busy day. The coffee is top notch, and their latte selection is one of the highlights. Caffe Umbria's honey oat milk latte is a real showstopper. It's smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced.

Nice coffee shop with industrial vibes! Stopped in here before going to a pottery class across the street. I got an espresso, single shot and some bubbly water. Straightforward and delicious. It wasn't too busy on a Tuesday afternoon. Kind of hot sitting inside, but they had huge fans running that helped a lot. The seating and outlets were scattered around. Great for 1-4 people to meet up, but it probably can't accommodate for more than that.

This place is unlike any coffee place I've been too. If I had a "remote/work on my laptop job", this would be my 2nd place of residents. The honey oat latte was very good, but the house blend caffe latte was top notch. I wish they made a Cologne or fabric softener the way this place smells. There are three different sections you can sit at, each with their own unique lighting and ambiance. This is a great spot for a first date or discussing business. I also enjoyed the industrial techno music at 9am, cause why not. They also have vegan friendly sweets from Beacon Doughnuts. We had the apple fritter, tasty. All in all this place is kick ass and a must visit for coffee junkies.

Google
New to the area and decided to check out this cafe— so worth it! I got a chocolate croissant and a medium mocha, both delicious. It’s difficult to see online what food they offer, so I also took some pictures of the snack selection :)

Google
Great coffee, a unique location, and great vibes. There's a pretty small list of coffee shops where you can see the roasting equipment right inside, and it makes for an extra special experience when you see or hear the beans getting made!

Google
I absolutely love this coffee shop! It's the perfect spot to get some work done while enjoying fragrant coffee and delicious pastries. The best part is, they roast their own beans right here.

Google
Cool place, cool people, and delicious drinks!! Found this place walking in the neighborhood and I’m so glad I took a chance on it. Staff were kind and knowledgeable about the coffee, and lattes were superb. Desserts looked delicious. Lots of places to sit and chat, both inside and outside. Dog friendly.

Google
In house roasted coffee in an industrial setting. There's a lot of variety available if you're buying beans, only two or three are available if you're getting coffee. Specialty drinks are good but only a few unique ones. The drip coffee was good and came with a small piece of chocolate. Definitely want to come back and get some beans when we run low.

Google
I come here all the time. I love the staff, everyone is sweet and the coffee comes out fast. The coffee is SO GOOD. But lately it has been unbearable to spend even 10 minutes in the shop. It is so hot and humid. I assumed that the AC must be broken, but it’s been like this for several weeks now. I simply can’t keep coming here to work if it’s this hot in the summer.

Yelp
The building stands out and is easily recognizable by its bright brick industrial facade. Located right next to Chicago Elite Fitness, Caffe Umbria was just what we needed after an intense workout (what other monster likes to drink hot coffee on a warm Chicago summer day?!). You can also just follow the delicious scent of their roasted coffee wafting through the air. I ordered a latte with almond milk and my partner ordered an Americano, also with almond milk. Our orders were up quickly and the presentation was delightful--served nice and hot in coffee mugs. Whether you choose to sit inside or outside (perfect for people watching), there's plenty of seating to sit back and savor their delicious coffee.

Yelp
Drove by here several times but haven't stopped in, the place looks massive and cool from the outside. My husband and I strolled over on a Sunday morning to check it out and the place was pleasantly buzzing. While waiting to place our order I scoped out the pastry / treats selection and was tempted by the glazed banana bread. We ordered a drip coffee and iced dirty chai. Both drinks came out quickly and with a chocolate square surprise! The banana bread paired wonderfully with the chai and was actually quite filling for the size. Can't wait to come back, think this is now our top neighborhood coffee shop!

Yelp
My sister went here today and got me a coffee to go! I just asked her to get me any kind of sun seasonal cold brew drink or just a plain cold brew! They had a cherry San pellegrino almond cold brew, but they said they were out of cherry so they made it with lemon instead. Which was great because I love lemon! It was super refreshing but I wished that it had a little less of the sparkling water in it. It was really good though and I would get a coffee from here again next time I'm in town!

Yelp
I visited this cafe on a chilly weekday morning before heading to a yoga class. There was only one other person sitting there. I found free parking right in front. The area is spacious with a handful of tables to sit at. It has an industrial look and feel but also quite cool. I ordered an 8oz soy latte with an extra shot so it would be bolder. The barista did fantastic latte art and the coffee was smooth and delicious. The only downside was that it was nearly $9 for just the coffee. I would like to go back though.

Yelp
Wanted to love it but.... Poorly mixed matcha & it tasted like straight oat milk. Specifically had asked for more concentrated too lol. And this was somehow $9.50??? Will not be returning :(

Yelp
I've driven by here many times and didn't even know it was a coffee shop! It's pretty cool inside, lots of bold colors and industrial ish design. There's free street parking, free wifi, and a free piece of chocolate with your drink. I had the honey oat milk latte which came out very quickly and was brought to me at the table. I loved the little glass cube with lots of seating which has outlets all along the floor! Also neat to see their coffee bean machines.

Yelp
Came here for a quick cup of coffee. The building is huge and very spacious inside. The staff was very friendly and it didn't take long to get our coffee. My wife ordered their Cappuccino Al Cacao and I ordered their Caffe Marocchino. Both were pretty good. It tasted very similar to a mocha but a little bit stronger. Wouldn't hesitate returning.

Yelp
Cafe Umbria is serious about their coffee! Great interior space with plenty of seating. They have a section dedicated to their coffee beans which is really awesome. Friendly staff with very good lattes! Pro Tip: when you receive your coffee they also give you a cafe Umbria chocolate. Nice touch!
google avatar

Yelp
Love this coffee spot! The interior is very spacious and the coffee is amazing - every single time. The chocolate on top makes it even more special.

Yelp
Overall Thoughts: I liked the vibes of this spot-- very industrial, yet comfortable. The coffee menu is expansive and a bit intimidating at first, but you can't really go wrong and nothing is too expensive. I ordered a Niccoiola Freddo, which I found pretty tasty, frothy, and had a nice balance of sweetness. I also tried a cherry danish, which I thought was just okay-- not as good as I was hoping. -- Price (relative to peers): 4.3/5 Drinks/Food: 4.3/5 Ambience: 4.7/5 Service: 4.7/5 Overall Value: 4.3/5

Yelp
It's a new experience to be able to sit beside the coffee roaster machines in an industrial cafe setup.

Yelp
I've found Caffe Umbria to be very inconsistent after a number of visits. I love their beans, especially the Mezzanotte decaf blend. It may be my favorite decaf blend to make at home. The coffees in the cafe vary wildly depending on the barista, however. I've had excellent espressos and Americanos, as good as I can make with Umbria's beans, and I've also had over-extracted or very watery drinks. The service generally seems to be somewhat unfriendly in my experience as well.
google avatar

Bertha C.

Yelp
Good tasting coffee however I dislike having to add my own cream and sugar.. it's kind of annoying especially when you want to just grab your coffee and go. I was disappointed to see other reviews and photos of a variety of baked goods. When I went the shelves were practically empty. It had about a sandwich or two and some random type of bread that didn't look too good.

Yelp
Had a great takeout experience! Staff was kind and friendly when I asked them to explain the pastries in the window. Had a couple customers coming in and out on a Wednesday morning before work. Cool interior where you can see coffee beans being processed. Decent amount of seating indoors, a few outside. I ordered brewed coffee and it tasted fine, as expected. The almond croissant was MASSIVE. It had beautiful layers and an ample amount of almond paste. I just wish there wasn't so much powdered sugar on top. Great coffee shop in the neighborhood and would return!

Yelp
I love this coffee shop an unhealthy amount. Coffee's are always great and when they arent totally slammed you get a little chocolate treat too which is a friendly little touch. Obsessed with their almont croissant and the overall vibe in the cafe. It's industrial and open and always smells like fresh (not burnt!) coffee with light music playing in the background so you can hear yourself think but dont need to hear the conversation at the table next to you. One of my favorite spots to camp out and people watch/WFH. Their offering is impressive but not overwhelming, the kind of coffee shop I can bring my barista friends and they'll approve.

Michael S.

Yelp
Once again I have to rave about this place. The coffee is spectacular, the danish is unreal, the vibe is awesome, but the people are the real magic here. They are welcoming and wonderful. Cannot recommend this place strongly enough. A true neighborhood gem.

Yelp
Stopped by here with family while we were out and about. It wasn't too busy which was nice. I ordered a chai latte and it was pretty good. Not living in Chicago, I've been surprised at how few places carry skim milk. It's not the biggest deal but it still surprises me every time I am here (which is often) that most coffee shops don't offer skim milk. They had a GF carrot muffin, which was ok. It felt a little undercooked. But the flavor overall was pretty good. We sat for awhile and enjoyed our drinks. Overall good experience, not great.

Yelp
Good coffee, mocha served with a cute little chocolate. I'll be back to try the beans.

Yelp
Been to Armitage and downtown locations and the coffees and other drinks are always on point. If I'm sitting down I prefer the Armitage locations look and feel. Pastries are great and service is quick and friendly.

Yelp
Good vibes. Coffee is delectable and baristas hold themselves to a high standard. Good bakery options as well.

Yelp
Came in for first as it caught my eyes while driving in Logan square! However, the place looks amazing and very hippie. The employees were very friendly, and the facility looks just perfect for coffee roasting. My only and most important concern is the coffee taste and quality. I ordered black coffee which I was told it's medium to dark roast but the taste was way far off a good quality beans. I am NOT sure if whoever prepared it didn't put the right amount of beans or if their coffee tastes that way. As I wasn't getting any acidity or taste of the aroma! If I want to give the best description it felt like hot water with coffee flavor. I will give them another chance next time to see if the coffee any better. Best,

Yelp
This is a fantastic cafe! Had to wait for my car to be repaired at a shop close-by, so I stopped in here to enjoy a coffee and some breakfast. This place was super neat - it had plenty of space amongst the roastery and bar. The coffee and apple strudel was excellent - great flavors and nice sized portions. Rarely can you spend less than $10 these days and my bill was under that and felt like it was well worth it. Service was excellent - the two baristas were friendly and didn't mind that I was working for a long period of time.

Yelp
I stopped by this morning after visiting Rehab Lab for a chiropractor appointment. They are amazing btw! Review to follow. Caffee Umbria is next-door and so I thought I would pick up some coffee. I am not someone that will go to Starbucks so I'm pretty basic when it comes to coffee. Cameron helped me as I described what I was looking for. He suggested the Caffee Al Pepe and it hit the spot!!! I did have it made with almond milk instead of whole milk. I also got a extra shot of espresso. It was the morning and I needed the caffeine. The coffee drink had just the right amount of honey and cinnamon. It has a delightful workspace in the back that's a few steps up. And also has a roasting area similar to what you would see in a micro brewery that you can watch the process through the glass walls. They also have avariety of options for food items. They all looked delicious and homemade. Cameron was the best and very knowledgeable about the coffee and the history of the business. I will definitely be returning after my next chiropractor appointment. If I lived in the area this Caffee would definitely be my go to. Highly recommend!

Yelp
First time here and decided to check out this place since going to the yoga studio nearby. A great layout and ambiance with chill, synth music playing along with ample seating to read a book or chat with a friend. I got the matcha latte, sweetened with oat milk and it was so nice to also receive a little chocolate when I got it for here. Having been to Europe I can sense the fusion of European and neighborhood/city vibes. Will definitely be back to try the coffee!

Yelp
Coffee is good but the service is so weird. I have been to my fair share of hipster cafes but one thing about being a barista is you are here to serve coffee to the customers liking, you don't have to do it with a smile, but if the customer is being warm than it doesn't hurt to reflect that. When buying a bag of beans there was no offer to grind it. When I asked about the free coffee that comes with it they sort of rolled their eyes and went. "That's only on Fridays" what a strange policy, I like La Colombe's free coffee with every pound offer better. After I got a coffee to go along with my pound of beans there was no sort of "thanks!" Or anything. When I looked around there was no creamer to be found. I know this can be taboo in a hipster roaster facility. But if you are not going to have it out you should at least offer or direct me to where it would be. I know these sorts of things seem silly, but as a former barista it's sad to see how far service has fallen. Prob going to La Colombe next time... at least their employees are happy. This place should pay them more or something. They all seem bitter and cranky. It's not like it was busy either it's 3:30 on a Tuesday.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
I come here a lot as it's across the street from my dog's rehab vet. It's a cool spot. The baristas are friendly, the coffee is good, and the pastries hit the spot. Bathrooms are always clean.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been meaning to check out this place and I'm so happy I finally did. I'm always in the hunt for some delicious coffee and this place is IT. My go-to drink is the honey oat latte and theirs was delicious. Their espresso is in the chocolatey side which I loooove. I inhaled my drink and the little piece of chocolate that comes with every drink! They freshly roast their beans and you get a nice view and smell for when they do roast it. Caffe Umbria is spacious and have plenty of seats available. If you need to get some work done and want to drink some delicious coffee alongside, this café is the place to go!
google avatar

Jason N.

Yelp
Cute place, and very nice ambiance. However, the nitro cold brew is lacking in flavor, and creaminess that nitro coffee usually provides. If your a fan of Starbucks nitro cold brew then stick with it. The one at Cafe Umbria should be better considering it's a an artesian coffee shop, but sad to say I'm disappointed with it . The biggest lack is that there was little to no foam after coming out of the tap.
google avatar

Angelina I.

Yelp
Stopped in for coffee and a chocolate croissant. I got a vanilla latte, which came with a piece of dark chocolate. The croissant was more expensive than the latte, and was good with big chunks of chocolate. I just wish they had offered to warm it up for us because it was completely cold and the chocolate was unmelted.
google avatar

Madison S.

Yelp
The space is super cool warehouse / shipping containers and the ambience is casual and low key. There is a handful of seating both indoors and outdoors. Staff was super friendly and helpful with descriptions of what was what on the menu and the coffee is really good. But the pastries are the highlight of the show, you absolutely have to get a croissant - it was so flaky and buttery and the muffin was also moist and had a hint of cinnamon!!!

Ivan C.

Yelp
Great coffee and clean location Pastries were nice great Not too difficult to find parking around the area
google avatar

Pauli K.

Yelp
such a cute coffee shop! Great pastries and coffee. Staff is super nice and knowledgeable :) Love coming here while my car gets an oil change.

Russ K.

Yelp
Good coffee in a low key vibe. Service is good and the baked goods are solid. If you buy a bag of beans on Friday, your drink is free.
google avatar

Ellie K.

Yelp
Randomly walked into the nearest coffee place after having dinner nearby, and I was pleasantly surprised! It's a cute local roastery, very cool interior and the coffee was sooo good! Will definitely visit again.
google avatar

Lina V.

Yelp
Matcha's great - I recommend it hot. I really enjoy their pastries but they tend to run out quite early in the day. Inside's packed on the weekends but you can find a spot after 11. Very industrial vibe. I recommend not sitting at the high top tables - the chairs are incredibly uncomfortable.
google avatar

Joneice B.

Yelp
This roastery always smells so good whenever I walk by. I finally was able to grab a cup of coffee. I had a vanilla latte and it was delicious. I also grabbed strawberry muffin. I was able to enjoy this while hanging on the dog friendly patio. Latte was good but muffin was bad. Will come back for more coffee but not sure I will try the baked goods again.
google avatar

Cinthya Q.

Yelp
Great oat lattes. The space was large and open with a small patio out front. Can't wait for covid to be over so that I can work from this space. Loved that you get a chocolate square to finish off your latte/coffee experience.
google avatar

Vivid Wall Murals ..

Yelp
Great coffee, Great vibe. Staff is super friendly and they take the time to answer any questions you have! We got coffee beans to go. Cant wait to try it out at home! We'll be back

Yelp
Coffee roasters also includes a full service coffee counter and a limited seating area for guests who want to sit and stay. The industrial, shipping container feel is cool--the same feel as a brewery with a small tasting room in the warehouse. Roasting machines are right there. Drip coffee medium roast single origin was bright, well extracted, very nice. Dark was less remarkable. The sit and stay seating area looks cool in a glassed in box at the center of the room, but it's pretty limited in terms of total seats (one single group table and some rail seats), and it acts as a bit of an echo chamber making private conversations pretty impossible. But not bad for a spot of laptop work as needed.

Andrew K.

Yelp
Umbria has incredible coffee and a wonderful setup. The pastries at this location are also really good. I really liked the Cardamom latte and came back and enjoyed a Shakerato (so good!). The London Fog here was ok on one visit and excellent the second visit. Cappuccinos here are really good as well! The chocolates with every drink are a nice (very European) touch The croissants are really tasty! I love this place
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great neighborhood coffee shop that offers awesome customer service, top notch pastries and seriously good coffee. Plenty of seating with a modern atmosphere.
google avatar

Yelp
Spacious and lovely cafe that looks like it was previously a fire station with its welcoming bright red exterior - you won't miss it! They have a couple of sandwiches (egg, veggie, and cheese and egg, bacon, and cheese) and a number of assorted pastries if you're hankering for more than coffee. If you're looking for just a quality cup of coffee, then you'll also love Caffe Umbria! Barista was super friendly and whipped up a super smooth latte with oat milk for me. Came with a complimentary square of (vegan) chocolate.

Yelp
I visited Caffé Umbria as part of Yelp Cafe Week. I took note of it as well as another cafe within a 3-mile radius from my apartment, so I figured why not visit when I had the spare time. During Yelp Cafe Week, Caffé Umbria, offered 50% off any coffee beverage purchase or coffee bean purchase, which I recieved 50% off proudly after checking in. To my knowledge, your only option for parking is neighborhood parking which really is not bad depending on when you choose to visit. I would imagine that parking can be horrendous at select times and days of the week including with a restaurant like '90 Miles Cuban Cafe' being across the street, but take note of that prior to your visit. After entering Caffé Umbria my thoughts were, "Wow! This is legit!". I have never been in a cafe more legit as this. With similarities to a brewery, the inside feels like a coffee factory combined with a cafe, yet the building exterior will make you think that it is a fire department while driving by, hehe. I visited during morning hours near noon when business just happened to be slow. And post ordering, I kept beating myself up because I did not bring my laptop with me so that I could write inside of my blog, but oh well! It just means that I get to return on a different date, plus try the 'Ciaccolada Calda' that the barista gave me a sample taste of. Describing its taste, I would compare it to a hot chocolate. I have a one track mind because I had already identified what I wanted to order prior to visiting which was the 'Terra Sana blend' based off of its ingredients. And best believe I was dead set on getting it upon ordering, but the sampling of the 'Ciaccolada Calda' gave me an option to try on a different visit. I would imagine that this place can get crowded like any other cafe on certain days and at times during the day, so seating is yet another thing to take in consideration, especially if you are just looking to study, get work done or just enjoy coffee with others. Overall, I enjoyed my visit to Caffé Umbria, the barista was very knowledgeable about coffee entirely as well as the products Caffe Umbria has. I will never look at other cafes the same after visiting Caffé Umbria. From its inner interior to the warm welcome I recieved, I highly recommend this cafe. Thomas G

Yelp
If you're in Logan Square and looking for a unique cafe, you can't miss Caffè Umbria (literally)! Their striking, fire engine red building and massive logo will catch your eye and pique your curiosity. Once inside, you very quickly realize this isn't just your average cafe, oh no, this is a cafe + coffee lab + roastery! And since they are a roastery, (you guessed it) the beans that comprise your coffee are roasted IN HOUSE! Another fun fact about Caffè Umbria is that their foyer and coffee lab are actually converted shipping containers that have been painted bright red & yellow! How cool is that?! In addition to the warm, bold colors of this sheet metal, the cafe has an eclectic mix of wood, marble, and glass elements. Okay, enough about their interior design! On to the coffee! My friends and I ordered an array of lattes which came with a square of divine, dark chocolate. It was the best lil' treat that paired perfectly with our coffee. I ordered their cafe latte which delighted me both by its double-hearted art and its smooooth texture. It's creaminess and caramelization absolutely enchanted my tastebuds. Caffè Umbria also sells 7-8 espresso blends in exquisitely designed bags. Side note- many rave over their Gusto Crema, so definitely try that (and all of their blends, honestly). Furthermore, the baristas and staff here are incredibly down-to-earth, knowledgeable, and kind. This place is truly a gem and a haven for all coffee lovers!

Yelp
Really appreciated the 50% off coffee drinks during Yelp's Cafe Week 2019! The place has good coffee; good food; & good ambience!! I tried a little bit of everything! Really liked the espresso; tasted like hot chocolate shots! The space was very modern and hip; it gave off a good vibe. Empanadas were good as well.

Yelp
This place is so cute and delicious! I came out here for the yelp cafe event so sampled a few coffees and really enjoyed the orange nitro - so unique! One of the few times I can drink coffee straight without cream. They have a lot of interesting drinks on their menu that I've never heard of and would love to try. I think I'll make my way to the downtown location since I live in Lincoln park which is hard to get to without a car.
google avatar

Andreas O.

Yelp
Glad I stumbled upon this place- it's the best espresso I've had in Chicago and close to the ones you'll find in Europe. The espresso had a gorgeous crema, and it was served with a small piece of dark chocolate. They also offer complimentary sparkling water to re-hydrate. 5/5 on the espresso experience alone

Yelp
Such a cool place... you have to check it out. Enter Cafe Umbria into what appears to be a very industrial building. It's next to a storage facility and it blends in....you wouldn't know you were walking into a cafe. I've attached a bunch of photos to help paint the picture. What I like is the seating areas inside. They have what feels like different rooms all within one big space. If you want to find a spot to sit and work, this is it. I'd say you'll have privacy if you need it. Half the space is occupied by the coffee roasters. You won't see that in most other coffee shops... Because they don't actually roast it on the spot. That makes this coffee extremely fresh... And it tastes great. Some of the smoothest tasting coffee I've ever had. I love this location and the coffee itself... So I'm sure I'll be visiting again soon. Highly recommend visiting!

Yelp
Favorite coffee in the city. Excellent espresso drinks. Good pastries. This is the go to spot in the area for well made espresso and coffee. Friendly staff, kid/dog accommodating. More seating was added for guests (both indoors and outdoors).
