3 off-the-beaten-path attractions to visit in Puerto Rico - SilverKris

"A well-preserved pre-colonial archaeological site set in a peaceful mountain setting, featuring ceremonial plazas, numerous petroglyphs and indigenous artifacts that provide a rare window into the island’s Taíno heritage." - SilverKris

This place is for people interested in learning local Tiano people history and culture. They have a small display room filled with artifacts and gives some background about Tiano people. The grounds are some sort of ceremonial place and few stones with native carvings were displayed. We had a nice walk around the grounds. It's a long drive from San Juan, with narrow winding roads.

The 4 stars are to stimulate the government of Puerto Rico to pay attention to this site. Still, the place is an invaluable jewel of Puerto Rico, and definitely a 5/5 you must visit. Real artifacts on exhibit with an amazing guide, Anibal, who has a trove of information like no one else I have met. The exhibit facilities are well-kept and clean, and the greenery is clean and well-maintained. But the trails need TLC, dated, rotten wood, and painting. This easily one of the most historical sites that you should visit if you are Puertorrican, or are interested in learning about true Boriquen tradition.

Really interesting to learn about the Taino people and other cultures from the Island! If you’re visiting and in the area, I think it’s important to learn and it’s a well-kept, beautiful property rich with information and history!

This is pretty amazing--indigenous ceremonial grounds that you can wander and take in a high concentration of petroglyphs in their original positions around ball game pitches. I felt a special energy walking around this preserved spot. Try to speak to the docent, he's full of knowledge.

Nice museum and friendly staff. Was not crowded early in the am. It was fun having one of the “staff” (a gentle dog!) escort me thru the site. Loved visiting this site !

This was a great experience. If you're able to climb into the cave and see the glyphs up close, it's absolutely worth the effort. Not for the claustrophobic though. Cave entrance is pretty tight at first, but it does open up after a few feet. Absolutely worth it!

Well kept grounds and friendly staff though not much to see considering the destruction of Taino heritage. It’s a cool drive up the winding mountain and well worth a visit if also stopping to eat a local eatery. We did Sabores right after which was delicious.

Incredible opportunity to step back to when Taino people cared for and protected Puerto Rico before white colonists pillaged and raped her.
