Cahal Pech Village Resort

Perched high above San Ignacio, this mountainside retreat feels like it’s suspended between the rainforest and the sky. The property is thoughtfully moving through renovations — and doing them right. You can feel the care in the improvements, the intention to preserve what makes it special while elevating the experience. The views alone are worth the stay. Waking up to mist drifting softly over the treetops, the jungle stretching endlessly below, is nothing short of magical. There’s a stillness in those early hours that stays with you long after you leave. The staff are gracious and attentive, and the food is genuinely some of the best in the area — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The cabanas are uniquely designed, each one with its own character, blending rustic charm with comfort in a way that feels authentic to the setting. It’s also an ideal home base for exploring the nearby Mayan ruins scattered throughout the region — a meaningful way to experience the depth of Belize’s history and culture. We were in the area on a mission trip, serving at a special needs camp just a few miles west of the resort, and coming back each evening to this peaceful hillside sanctuary felt restorative. Five stars from me doesn’t mean I’m calling it a formal five-star resort. It means it’s very nice, deeply relaxing, and thoughtfully cared for — and sometimes, that’s exactly what you’re looking for.

My husband and I visited Belize for our anniversary. We stayed at Cahal Pech Village Resort for 3 nights. The property is already beautiful, but the area where the cabanas is, is truly something special! Instead of a normal hotel room we stayed in our own cabana with a built-in screened porch. Room was clean. There were 2 sinks so it made it easier for a couple to get ready at the same time. The cabana itself had AC and a lovely view of the town as the whole resort sits on top of a hill. We had the breakfast buffet and had our first try of fryjacks—airy and yummy! The dinner was delicious. Try the pineapple crispy chicken. Everyone working in the restaurant and at the front counter was so kind. The resort itself is close enough to town to walk but we had the front call a taxi for us as I preferred not to walk down the hill in my kitten heels. Overall the service, the room, the food, and the view were impeccable. And at a very fair rate, mind you!

We stayed in one of the bungalows which was pretty cool. We had a screen porch with a hammock which was nice. The bed was comfy and the room was clean. Hot water came, but you had to run the shower for quite a while to get it. Some updates/extras are needed. A hair dryer and some body lotion would be nice, there is a small rail with 4 or 5 hangers, but some drawer storage would be really helpful. We had tours booked through them and they were fantastic and the pick up/drop off at the ferry port was seamless. Lenny organized our tours and was very helpful and responsive. The staff were wonderful. They learned our names quickly and we're so helpful and friendly,nothing was too much trouble dor them. The restaurant was mediocre at best. The food was edible, but not great and the only dessert our entire stay was cheesecake. Lots of different cheesecakes and they looked great, but if you don't like cheesecake, you are out of luck. The pools were lovely, but the furniture around the pools definitely needs an upgrade. Overall, we had a nice time. It's not luxury, but its the people who make this place. They are wonderful.

We spent two nights here and really enjoyed our stay. Our cabana was beautiful and had a cute little room attached with a hammock, which made the space feel extra cozy. For an additional $29, the staff decorated the room for my daughter’s 18th birthday, and it turned out absolutely gorgeous. It was such a sweet surprise for her. The hotel bar outside also had plenty of cocktail options, which was nice to have on-site. The staff members were all very friendly and helpful. At one point I wanted dessert, but since it was Thanksgiving they weren’t offering the regular menu. They did offer a slice of pie from the buffet for $7, which felt steep for San Ignacio, so I passed. They also call taxis for guests heading into town, which is a nice touch. It’s a very steep hill, so not ideal for walking the mile down. Taxis can cost between $5-$7 (which they don’t take one dollar bills so round up to $10 if you don’t have BZ on you, which is crazy). Overall everyone we interacted with was kind and welcoming. A few things to note: the cabana only had a sheet instead of a comforter, though that seems pretty standard for the area. The bathroom door didn’t lock, the water pressure was low, and the warm water didn’t last long for showers. Overall, it was a good stay with thoughtful touches, but some of the prices and room details felt a bit high for the location.

Beautiful view, basic rooms. I was in the main building after reading some reviews about wifi struggling in the cabins. I had pretty good wifi most of the time and the water was hot. Otherwise the room is very basic. I did not like the restaurant food. The breakfast is convenient to have there but not very good. Even taxi drivers I met agreed the food there is not good. The hill from town to the hotel is very steep but there are plenty of taxis that will take you between the hotel and town for $5 USD. As a planner, I’d suggest not planning transfers and tours ahead of time, except for the transfer from the airport to the hotel of course. When I wanted to change my plans, they wouldn’t refund me the transfers I had pre booked. I also found their ATM cave tour to be $40 more than other tour operators, even though they advertise it as less because they don’t include the taxes and fees at first. This was a very simple room with a good view, but I would’ve liked better food options and more flexibility in my plans.

We booked this resort last minute. Our main reasoning were the views from the resort and that it was close to Cahal Pech ruins and near the downtown area. The resort was nice, it was quiet (maybe due to the time of year that we went - November). We got the small cottage which was nice, had a hammock outside which was enclosed and netted, that was nice as we were able to relax outside of the room. The room is basic, bed was comfortable, AC worked good. Every that we needed. Just a thought, maybe a microwave or kettle/coffee machine might have been nice. But no big deal. Staff were friendly and very helpful and always smiling. We booked a tour with the hotel and it felt like a private tour as we were the only couple. Big shout out to our tour guide "Fry Jack" and our driver Martin !! FYI the resort is up a steep hill! Definitely a workout.

The rooms are definitely showing their age and need some attention. Our shower floor slopped away from the drain. We were very disappointed in the restaurant. Our pizza was barely warm in the middle, served same seasoned chicken breast on 3 or our items when it didn't fit with 2 of them. The breakfast menu isn't served until 9 am. Before that is an overly charged $27 breakfast buffet that doesn't have any meat options. The only thing that made our stay worth it was the view from our balcony and the excursions we booked through them. Because we booked through them, Christian made sure we were all set up and ready to go everyday. All the drivers were awesome. I don't remember all their names, but Ian.

Very pretty resort that looks over San Ignacio. The restaurant on site has a great breakfast buffet and then lunch and dinner from the menu. Rooms a chilly so bring an extra blanket. Showers lack hot water so don’t expect to stay in there long. The staff are friendly and willing to go above and beyond!
