A Local’s Guide to Kerry, Ireland

"Cahernane House Hotel, a luxury manor house with foliage-wrapped archways. Thoughtfully restored rooms come with original features like period antiques and claw-feet bathtubs. The restaurant has won two AA Rosettes for its menu of Dingle crab, Farranfore strawberries, and local spring lamb."

Fabulous! This hotel is totally charming and relaxed. The staff are superb offering the warmest of welcomes, they could not do enough for us. We stayed just one weekend night but really wished it could have been longer! It’s location is only a mile from the town centre and easily strolled into. We enjoyed the cellar bar food in a cosy snug and had the most wonderful breakfast. In between the bedroom was super comfy with a gorgeous view of the mountains. A lovely time to visit as Christmas approaches, the hotel has been delightfully lit up. Needless to say we will be back!

We recently stayed at Cahernane House Hotel in Killarney for a wedding, and it was absolutely amazing. The whole experience felt like something out of a fairy tale — romantic, elegant, and full of charm. Our room was spotless, beautifully decorated, and very comfortable. The staff were exceptionally friendly and professional, going above and beyond to make sure we were well looked after throughout our stay. From start to finish, everything was perfect. We can’t wait to return!

One of the best stays I've been too! The hotel is gorgeous. The grounds are superb. Food was great as well! It is also a short drive to many amazing hiking and scenic driving spots. If we are ever in the area, WE WILL be staying here again.

This is a beautiful place with great rooms and stellar service. We really enjoyed the comfort of our room. The bed was soft enough to sleep, but firm enough you didn't sink! Lovely shower too. We had a view of a field and got to see a herd of deer grazing. The meals in both the dining room and the cellar were very good. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

We had a lovely time at the Cahernane House. It has picturesque grounds complete with sheep, chickens and we even saw a stag. We visited yesterday and it’s giving all the moody, Irish fall vibes. Exactly what we were envisioning for this trip. ||We stayed in room 7 (heron room). It was very nice and the bathroom was huge with a large claw foot tub which we enjoyed. ||The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Especially Veronica. She made sure that we were taken care of. ||Our meal in the Cellar bar was great! I recommend the chicken. My husband had a burger.||We would definitely come back if we ever get out this way again!||-R & M Sorensen

My husband and I stayed 2 nights here on our honeymoon and it was absolutely incredible. The most relaxing and incredible place we stayed out of 4 places in Ireland. 1. The breakfast is not too tasty but the view while eating it is 10/10 2. The bar was great - lovely service and a delicious fish and chips 3. I wrote on our res that it was our honeymoon and they decorated our room so lovely 4. The bikes were so clutch. Rode to see the muckross house and they abbey and it was an incredible experience 5. The bathtub was absolutely incredible after a day in the national park The only downfall was that it was a 25 minute walk to the downtown part of killarney. This is very safe, and doable, but hard after a day of hiking in the park. I was unaware the town was so cute, and wish we had spent more time there, but very very happy with our experience

This was our favorite hotel of our entire trip. It is very cozy, decorated very nicely, and has a very homey feel. It was kind of cold and rainy when we got there, an walked into a low lit room with a fireplace and such a nice front desk lady and it was exactly what we needed. She showed us around and then said that they upgraded us rooms! We had an amazing view of the garden. We ate dinner there and had dessert and it was delicious. After that, we went to the drawing room to hang out an it was very relaxing. They have a piano playing all day and it was a very nice touch. The next morning, we had breakfast there and it was also quite good. I recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone!

Google
The staff at this hotel were so welcoming and lovely that they made our stay brilliant. It’s in a very nicely private location with glorious views but not far from the centre of Killarney. We appreciated an unexpected room upgrade, which had a beautiful balcony view of the parkland, JGdeer and distant hills. Sadly there is now no direct walkway down to the lakeside. Our one other reservation was that their dinner menu had only a single vegetarian main option that was the same each evening. However all the food we had was very well prepared and deliciously sourced.

Yelp
Hands down one of our favorite boutique hotels in the world!! Originating as a familial estate, the Killarney specific heritage of this hotel is magnificent and adds to the elevated experience accentuated through impeccably warm and attentive service! Amazing food served between a higher end, polished restaurant upstairs and a refined 'Cellar' gastropub downstairs more focused for libations with a smaller refined menu. Breakfast is a definite must here before visiting Ring Of Kerry, Killarney National Park, and other points of interest that are most conveniently close to this gem of an estate! As a very seasoned lifelong traveler, I CAN NOT recommend this place enough!

Yelp
If you glance over the reviews it is obvious that Cahernane House is a wonderful hotel. It easily earns the five stars so many customers award it. Beautiful rooms, good food, a classy place to spend some time. I want to focus on something that doesn't always get noticed or appreciated. The staff. In my particular case I want to acknowledge Sonia Smith. I don't know her specific title (she was attending the front desk when I met her) but do know she is a caring, efficient and friendly employee that went out of her way to help me in resolving a personal emergency, the loss of my phone. I know that in the larger context the loss of a phone is not a significant problem, but at the time it was important to me. Sonia went out of her way to help a foreign tourist with a personal problem. The phone was eventually found and returned after many phone calls and follow-up by Sonia on my behalf. If you judge a business by the quality of its employees, the Cahernane House Hotel easily earns its five stars.

Yelp
Dude. I would live at this hotel for the rest of my life if I could. Literally felt like I was living in a Downton Abbey episode (at least the happy parts of the episode). The location of this hotel is about a 10 minute walk out of town but easy to do. The surround pastures of sheep and trees is beautiful and stunning. I felt so relaxed after a long day of driving on tiny Irish mountain roads!! The staff are wonderful: they helped us with our bags, restaurant recommendations, and accommodated us when we wanted to stay an extra night. Our hotel rate includes breakfast and it was delicious. Not some day old pastry...we had full Irish breakfast, yogurt bar, fruit, you name it! The rooms were clean. I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
The BEST, honestly top notch Chef, quaint setting. It was perfection. Would recommend to dine here or absolutely the Hotel it's self. We only needed to run across the road, as we were staying at Kilbrogan House, thank you Mrs. O'Leary for the recommendation, it was terrific.

Easy ride to torc water fall and Abbey house. The Cellar Bar is very cozy, the food is wonderful! Would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
I cannot say enough about this magical place. My husband and I had our wedding ceremony and reception here in October, 2013, and it was the best choice we could have made. From the beautiful hotel, immaculate grounds, impeccable staffing, and out- of- this- world menu, we had the best and most memorable day of our lives. Our 30 or so guests (who all flew out from Boston to attend) said it was the best wedding they had been to, and much of this I attribute to the Cahernane's ability to present everything with excellence. We felt like we were royalty the entire time. The guestrooms are lovely, very spacious, and beautifully designed. The hotel itself is great fun to explore, as it is multi-levelled with many rooms to relax in. The downstairs cellar bar is a very inviting and cozy place to have a nightcap (or two). We also were very impressed with the atrium style conservatory room, which has a breath taking view of the National Park. I would highly recommend the Cahernane Hotel to anyone looking for a special place to stay and/or dine while in Killarney. We plan on returning next year for sure!

Yelp
Superb! We stayed in the Newling Suite. Very clean, cute room. Loved the shower! We came from the Shelbourne in Dublin to this house and I was preparing myself a downgrade, but the level of service and accommodation was the same! Breakfast is delicious and the cows are just lovely. I'm sure we will be back.

Yelp
Had a lovely spring weekend here in 2010. Great location for accessing the National Park, lovely old building, great food. I've stayed here a few times.

Yelp
we were looking forward to staying at a nice manor house. When we got to our room the first thing we noticed was the 9" television at the opposite side of the room from the bed. Not only could we not hear the tv because the volume didn't really work there were only 4 channels and nothing anyone would watch. Next we had a toilet that sometimes would flush and sometimes it didn't. The shower was the size of one you would find on a cruise ship and literally you couldn't move. The restaurant was under renovation so we had to get the driver to take us to dinner and back. Most of the staff was super nice and they had multiple jobs. We went to the bar and no one was there. I think they finally heard us calling them and they were the same person who was the bellman and the maintenance guy. The breakfast was ok but my eggs smelled funny so I didn't eat it. The land on the property was very beautiful but the building needed major repairs. We heard it was sold so maybe in time it will be beautiful again but it reminded us of the haunted mansion at disneyworld. Also, it was so far from the shops and restaurants too. I would say wait for the renovations before staying there. Naomi
