Best Places to Eat Jamaican-inspired Cuisine on Costa Rica's Caribbean Coast

"Chef Doria Sequeira Selles serves inventive Caribbean soul food and house ciders (including pineapple-chile, Caribbean punch, and star-fruit) with standout dishes like langosta en salsa caribeña con camarones—lobster topped with plump shrimp in an aromatic curry sauce—served with patacones, and a signature boozy rum cake created as an homage to the Black community and local culinary traditions." - Kayla Stewart Kayla Stewart Kayla Stewart is an award-winning food and travel journalist. This place is amazing!! Open air, great breeze the chef greeted us at the door and then came over and went over the menu. Unique cuisine I've never found anywhere else. Caribbean soul food at its best!! Do not hesitate. An absolutely lovely, delicious experience. (Nut allergy friendly, too!!). The Hawaiian Rice with Chicken is one of the best things I've eaten, not only in Costa Rica, but ever.

OMG, we absolutely LOVE this place! Daria ( the owner/chef) was so friendly and helpful, and the seafood soup we had was (honest to God, no exaggeration) the best soup I've ever had in my life. We got a little side salad with it that was lovely too - and the hand crafted cider was absolutely divine. I can't encourage you enough to give this place a try!

as a chef myself, I am rarely wowed by a place. Cahuitas Taste has something that is truly intangible, it has Soul. This is why it is an authentic Caribbean Soul food restaurant. Chef Avena Cooked the most delicious Caribbean dishes, she sang karaoke for us, the whole restaurant was dancing and the service was impeccable, food arriving in time, beautifully plated, and tastes that you could tell took generations to perfect. It is truly a gym if you have the time and space this is a place you will be grateful you got to experience in this lifetime.

Saturday special - rice & beans plus Chicken or fish. The fish was in a delicious delicate curry sauce. Papaya dressing on fresh salad. All excellent and cooked with love. Owner chef was very friendly and music/ambiance was fantastic. A great lunch stop!

I am the 4 year in row in Costa Rica. It was sure, I have to eat the Rasta Pasta again! It's amazing, for sure the other dishes as well but it's my favorite. The ladies there are so sweet and heartwarming! I got a banana cake for free , what a service and what a taste. Big recommendation for this place. For me one of the best, authentic food experiences in Costa Rica so far.

Delicious food. Three dishes can be made vegan (pasta, rice and empanadas). The pasta was the best - it actually tastes more like curry flavoured noodles with some stir fried veggies. Offer WiFi. Cosy atmosphere with Bob Morley’s music. Accept card payment but not Amex.

Might have been the best chicken I’ve ever had. Great service and excellent food. We did the cooking class first and had such a great time, and had so many delicious foods that I came back for more. Portions are large, prices are reasonable. Can’t recommend this place more!

The food here was so good we came back twice. The red snapper, fried rice, and empanadas are amazing. The Saturday/Sunday special with chicken and beans and rice is the best thing I’ve eaten in Costa Rica by far.
