We picked a perfect day to hike up to the top of Cairngorm Mountain. Not too hot, not too cold and no wind!
We arrived at the car park around 11.30 on August 23rd 2025. Plenty of people there but not packed out.
We took the wide road/track up as we have two old dogs. As you elevate, the views become more and more stunning. Loch Morlich centre stage in the views really looked gorgeous.
It took us about 2 1/4 hours to get to the top, with plenty of stops for photos, and rest, plus a brief stop for food and drink. It's a relatively hard hike due to the steep track and loose material underfoot, but if you're careful and just take your time it's very doable.
We came down on the Funicular Train both for the experience and to give the dogs a rest. The 4 minute journey back down is incredible and you must have a camera at the ready to capture the views especially as you exit the tunnel at the station.
I recommend this Mountain hike even if its not really your thing.
