This National Park Has a Royal-favorite Castle, Whisky Distilleries, and a 90-mile Scenic Drive

"At Cairngorm Mountain near Aviemore there’s a ski area in winter and, in milder months, activities like a tubing park, a mountain carting track, walking and mountain-biking trails, and Scotland’s only funicular railway that climbs to nearly 3,600 feet — it’s a good spot for both winter sports and family-friendly mountain activities year-round." - Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel is a writer with more than eight years of experience editing and writing for both brands and online publications—with a particular focus on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. Cairngorm Mountain resort and surrounding area is well worth a visit. Plenty of accessible parking, the climb is well worth it. There is free WiFi and toilets plus a cafe and shop on site, and the railway that operates here will take you up to spectacular views. Great trails for mountain bikers are located here too, but note you can't take ebikes on the railway, you have to ride those up to the summit instead. If you're in the area then this location is well worth a visit. Highly recommended.

Breathtaking views, ride up was nice. Staff are lovely and helpful. Hot chocolate there is delicious too. You can buy tickets there but my husband and I found it better to book online so we could get straight into the line for the tram.

Amazing countryside lovely snow capped mountains. Weather was harsh but you can't do anything about that. Walk wasn't for the faint hearted. Give yourself at least 3 hours to climb. We tried to climb Ben macdui but failed. Cairngorm was beautiful though.

Awesome place and far from a tourist trap. Anybody who feels trapped didn’t read the T&Cs which clearly state (and you have to check a box that you accept it) that you cannot leave the station. It was simply a really awesome experience. We were there on a day with lots of rain and shattered clouds but still the view was great and the whole feeling was simply outstanding. Prices were reasonable so no reason to complain.

We picked a perfect day to hike up to the top of Cairngorm Mountain. Not too hot, not too cold and no wind! We arrived at the car park around 11.30 on August 23rd 2025. Plenty of people there but not packed out. We took the wide road/track up as we have two old dogs. As you elevate, the views become more and more stunning. Loch Morlich centre stage in the views really looked gorgeous. It took us about 2 1/4 hours to get to the top, with plenty of stops for photos, and rest, plus a brief stop for food and drink. It's a relatively hard hike due to the steep track and loose material underfoot, but if you're careful and just take your time it's very doable. We came down on the Funicular Train both for the experience and to give the dogs a rest. The 4 minute journey back down is incredible and you must have a camera at the ready to capture the views especially as you exit the tunnel at the station. I recommend this Mountain hike even if its not really your thing.

We booked in advance . The views are fantastic from the top with a couple of viewing platforms. All also accessible for anyone with mobility issues. To note you need to pay for your carparking on top of ticket price. Funicular is a great little ride up mountain..nice staff too.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side so didn't get to see the stunning view, however we still managed a good few hours here and would recommend to anyone visiting the area (just remember to dress accordingly)

We took the tram up the mountain. It wasn't too busy. The restaurant was pretty busy though. The food was good and the prices weren't bad. The sky happened to be nearly cloudless and the visibility was approximately 80 miles according to the tram operator. The views were amazing and worth it!
