4 unique experiences to try in Cairns - SilverKris

"A unique facility that exclusively showcases aquatic species from the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Rainforest; it now offers an after‑hours 'Aquarium by Twilight' programme—an ecologist‑guided tour through ten tropical ecosystems to observe nocturnal behaviour of fish, amphibians, insects and reptiles—paired with a sit‑down three‑course dinner at the onsite restaurant." - Vanessa Tai

Fantastic set up, loads of different creatures. Staff very friendly and helpful. Beautiful aquarium and worth every cent. Before we entered we thought it was a bit pricy but once we were inside we definitely got more than our moneys worth.

One of my favorite aquariums in Australia! My highlight was the Predators of the Reef tunnel with sharks and rays swimming overhead — amazing to see them up close. The aquarium takes you on a journey from rainforest rivers to the Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea, with over 15,000 animals across different ecosystems. I loved the shark talk and all the different presentations, which make it both fun and educational.

We had such a great experience at the aquarium. It is not only a place to see sea lives but also a venue to learn about the natural history of the surrounding area. A lot of animals and detailed information on them are available. Highly recommended for all ages.

I visited this aquarium during a weeklong vacation to Queensland, just one day after going on a snorkeling trip on the Great Barrier Reef!! The aquarium does an amazing job at representing the reef and forest ecosystems of the area, and I appreciate that it's display collection is entirely dedicated to local wildlife!! It was fun to spot and identify fish that I recognized from the Reef, and learn more about them. I wasn't on any kind of guided tour, but was able to experience parts of multiple educational animal talks and feeding times. The speakers were incredibly informative and passionate about the respective subjects, with the shark feeding/talk being my personal favorite!! Definitely recommend visiting to anyone in the area, whether you're a local or a visitor such as myself.

Once you get over the steep entry fee this is a beautiful exhibition. Well laid out, lots of animals (not just fish) and lots to learn for young and old, or just enjoy the beautiful colours. I believe the entry fee is justified by the quality of the aquarium, and surely the cost of keeping all those animals thriving.

Smaller aquarium but well kept and the kids had fun which is the most important thing. We have been to the Georgia Aquarium in the US which is one of the best in the world so it’s pretty hard to compete with that but the Cairns Aquarium would be a great place to start if you have never been to one anywhere. It is a little on the expensive side though. We opted to visit here this year instead of our usual trip to Port Douglas Wildlife Habitat.

Amazing experience at Cairns Aquarium! My favourite part was the turtle tour, the turtle rehabilitation centre was so beautiful and obviously a massive amazing team working so hard to help our beautiful turtles. Brett was such an amazing guide. The exhibits are well-designed and highlight the unique marine and rainforest ecosystems of Tropical North Queensland. Loved the underwater tunnel, reef tanks, and the giant groper! Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the whole place was clean and easy to explore. A great way to experience the beauty of the reef without getting wet, perfect for all ages. Highly recommend!

The Cairns Aquarium is located in the middle of Cairns. It’s cheaper to purchase your ticket on the day rather than purchase online. The shows with Aquarium staff was amazing to watch & learn. There are soooo many tanks with fish, seahorse, crocodiles, frogs, reptiles & a huge tank with sharks, manta rays, sting rays etc swimming all around you. The view is incredible. You can spend a few hours walking around & looking at the animals/fish.
