Cairns Girls Hostel

The location is quite convenient and walking distance to everything. Just keep your expectations low and you won't be disappointed. || It's been a while since I've stayed in a hostel, so I'd forgotten some of the basics - cash only, no coffee/tea, towels or blankets provided (its cold in July!); no food allowed in rooms (due to sugar ants) and the common areas are like living in a dorm (everyone has different standards).|| My room lacked hooks, hangers and working fans which made it impossible to air out clothes and my towel was always wet in the morning. The windows don't fully close (typical in most old school, tropical construction), but since the adjacent parking lot is shared by a party hostel, there was too much noise and light at night.|| That being said, the owner/manager took my reservation via email (without a deposit) and allowed me to store my bags while I went out to pick up my rental car. She also gave me a private double at a discount. It was safe and clean, but not what I was expecting. The downstairs common areas seemed nicer, but I didn't spend a lot of time there.

I stayed here for 4 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. It is the perfect place if you need a break from all those crazy party hostels in Australia. It is located very well, you can easily walk everywhere.||There are three kitchens and several bathrooms in the house which were absolutely spotless at all times.||I also really liked that in my 6 bed dorm there were no bunk beds. Everyone had a single bed and enough space around it to put the luggage.||The hostel is pretty quiet, so I could relax and sleep very well here. All the girls staying here seemed very respectful and nice.||Also the owners were extremely friendly and helpful with every question I had. I can definitely recommend this place!

I needed a place to rest during a long layover at the airport. So, the staff were able to charge me for a private room (shared bathroom) for only three to four hours. The location is excellent within quick walking distance to the Esplanade and City Center -- bus station, Woolworths, banks, ATM and Cairns Museum. Also it is easy to find from the street and well marked. The staff can help make tour arrangements and transportation to the airport. Although this is no means a fancy place, and there is no air conditioning in the rooms, the rooms are tidy and quiet. The bathrooms are just clean enough.

I have not stayed at this Girls hostel, I have met a lot of people while I was in the cafe having breakfast on a number of times since the cafe owner Mario & his lovely wife looked after the girl's hostel. The girls use to say that it was close to the city, clean place, and a friendly atmosphere. I am sorry to tell everyone the Girl's Hostel has been closed for 2 weeks. I was told it will not open again as a Girl's hostel. what a pity since it was a very popular place for our Aussie girls traveling around Australia & overseas visitors. Stayed 3 nights here. Location is good as you're walking distance to lots of stuff.||The place was clean and very quiet, a part from very annoying doors and the stairs to come up from street level.||Very strange layouts, just 1 decent shower and toilet even though there was no light.||Bed was so uncomfortable. Completely sunk and all of them seem to have like a hole in the middle. I guess they haven't been changed in years.

I'm surprised to see the good reviews below because this was a bad start to my holiday. I booked ahead for a single room for 2 nights, arriving at about 1 a.m. after a long journey with stopovers from NZ. I had been given instructions on how to get in at that late hour (a key in a lockbox, and a code to open it) and how to find my room. However, when I arrived the box was empty. I reluctantly buzzed and was given not an apology and a welcome, but a surprisingly rude reception by Jenny, who was angry at being woken up. On asking for an explanation I was told there had been a mistake, and my key and room had been given to someone else. She showed me to another room and left me to my own devices - a room which was downstairs, with the only windows opening directly onto the stairway to the rooms upstairs and the reception area. I had to wonder if this was a kind of punishment, as the hostel was not full - I didn't see another guest in my short time there. After getting to sleep at about 2 a.m. I was then awoken not long after 7 a.m. by unhushed discussions between a tradesman and the male manager immediately outside my window. I made other arrangements and left as soon as I could. Jenny did reluctantly apologise when I checked out and reduced the payment for my room, which I appreciated.

Pretty sweet little place; definitely has everything you need. However there's really not a lot going on so I would recommend somewhere else if you're a young backpacker looking for a good time. However for long-term stays in Cairns this would be ideal. The facilities are nice and the girls here are nice too - same with staff. Great for budget too.

I stayed in this hostel in exchange for one and half hours of cleaning per day. |The people who own and run it are extremely nice, friendly and welcoming. It's very clean and tidy and the standards are good.|It's in a great location, not a far walk to the beach and close to the sea front so there are loads of restaurants and shops.
