One of the rare places in Egypt with no touts and you are able to enjoy the magnificent building and architecture. Tickets are very reasonable and can be bought using your card. You must remove your shoes when entering the citadel and it gives some amazing views of Cairo. The complex was very clean and well maintained and also housed the Army, Navy and Police museums. Well worth the visit.

Nice place to have a walk around. Several buildings of interest (none Muslims included). It's worth the price. I didn't enter the war or police museums, but it's worth seeing the areas around them for statues, cannons and views. The views over the city are great - even (just about) get the pyramids on a cloudy day. The mosque (Muhamad Ali) has an interesting range of columns (Roman, Greek and Egyptian influences) and a lovely calming atmosphere. The palace is spectacular inside and out, with painted ceilings, domes and lighting. Please remember to take shoes off when entering both - I almost forgot at the mosque and felt really foreign. A calm atmosphere within the walls of the citadel and refreshments are available at a few locations within ( if you've walked up a ways to get there- i was relieved!)

Definitely a great place to visit on a trip to Cairo. Absolute highlight being the Mosque of Muhammad Ali. The architecture is stunning and can definitely see the inspiration it took from the blue mosque in Istanbul. The viewpoint outside the mosque is not to be missed with panoramic views of the city- you can even see the pyramids in the distance.

The Cairo Citadel, also known as the Saladin Citadel, is an absolute marvel and a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and travelers alike. Perched atop Mokattam Hill, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of Cairo, blending the city’s bustling modernity with its ancient charm. This historic fortress is a treasure trove of culture, architecture, and history. Its centerpiece, the majestic Mosque of Muhammad Ali, is a masterpiece of Ottoman design with its grand domes and elegant minarets. The interior of the mosque is equally stunning, with intricate details, chandeliers, and a serene ambiance. The citadel is not just about its architecture; it also houses several museums, including the Military Museum, showcasing Egypt’s rich military history, and the Carriage Museum, featuring exquisite royal carriages. Walking through the citadel feels like stepping back in time, with every corner telling a story of Egypt’s glorious past. The grounds are well-maintained, and the atmosphere is peaceful despite the many visitors. It’s a great spot to take in the beauty of Cairo, especially during sunset when the city is bathed in golden light. Whether you’re fascinated by history, architecture, or simply want a place to soak in the beauty of Cairo, the Cairo Citadel is an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!

Worth the visit. Plenty of museums and mosques to visit and walk around in. Everything was included with the first price of 550 (except maybe the military museum, didn’t go in). Good view of the city.

The Cairo Citadel is a must-visit for its stunning architecture and rich history. The Mohamed Ali Mosque stands out with its grand Ottoman design and breathtaking city views. Important: They don’t accept cash—only bank cards for tickets, so come prepared. Hiring a tour guide is also recommended to fully appreciate the history behind the mosques and museums. I suggest going there in the early morning where it’s not crowded. The Cairo Citadel is an incredible spot for history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, and anyone looking for the best panoramic view of Cairo.

Amazing, amazing and amazing. A must visit place if you visit Cairo. The breathtaking architecture is a marvel and the way it has been preserved is amazing. Take your shoe off and walk the ancient mosque, go around the court and try to take it all in. You can also have a panoramic view of the capital from the Citadel. Try coming early to beat the study trips and crowds. You can buy the tickets at the counter. Just remember it is cashless so use your credit card.

Beautiful place 👌 Great views all around. You can see the pyramids in the distance. Magical. The architecture is gorgeous. Inside it is nice and cool. You can see the sunbeams going through the windows. Very nice to see. People are friendly. You can sit outside have some coffee and lunch. Checkout some small souvenir shop. Entrance fee is low. Recommended if you are in Cairo and you are into history and/or religion. Better to go on a weekday if you want to avoid crowds.
