11 Best Hotels in Tuscany, From the Coast to the Outskirts of Florence

"Punta Ala The location: Harbor-side, in a small town on Tuscany's Southern coast Top amenities: Sister property Cala Beach located directly on the beach, hands-on winemaking opportunity, bookable experiences including cycling tours in the Maremma and day trips to the archipelago's island It's hard to go wrong when you're staying on a serene archipelago surrounded by turquoise harbors, smack between land and sea—the glittering ocean and Tuscan wine country. At Cala del Porto, guests get the best of both worlds. But the resort itself takes the joys even further with five-star service, in-room balconies, four restaurants, and planned experiences and excursions that are made accessible, including private yacht tours, golfing and wellness packages, and biking and wine tasting tours." - Alex Erdekian

"It’s hardly fair to the other holiday destinations. Not only does Tuscany have the sun-dappled, olive-dotted hillsides for which it’s so well known, but it’s also got the Maremma, the stunning seaside region, where picturesque marina towns like Punta Ala sprout like so many flowering plants. This is a region where superlatives feel out of place — elsewhere a hotel like the Hotel Cala del Porto might loudly trumpet its excellence, but in Tuscany a confident, understated elegance is the ideal." - Tablet Hotels

We spent three wonderful nights at Cala del Porto Punta in a suite overlooking the sea, and it couldn’t have been better. The staff were so kind and welcoming, and the hotel was spotless and beautifully kept. The swimming pool was big, sparkling clean, and perfect for relaxing in the afternoons. Housekeeping went above and beyond, even restocking our coffee and water twice a day — such a thoughtful touch. It was a perfect, memorable stay, and we can’t wait to return.

We spent an amazing time Cala del Porto Punta Ala The staff is very friendly, supportive and doing their best to create your stay as good as possible. The service is fabulous from an excellent room service up to a brilliant breakfast- lunch - dinner with high quality food and very professional waitresses. We personally enjoyed our time at the hotel and would recommend it to anyone that considers a perfect stay in a calm place with great possibilities to relax. Beside the hotel is pet friendly as well.

We stayed in one of their suites for three nights and had a wonderful time. The suite was spacious, clean, and had a nice view on the harbor (and also a bit towards the sea which, I guess, is why they call it "sea view suite"). The entire staff was super friendly, personal, yet professional. They are close to the harbor (which has a tiny beach...) but offer a shuttle service to a near-by, bigger beach which worked flawlessly, too.|If you want to walk to a nice beach this is suboptimal. If you want to enjoy the peace of a luxus hotel and spend the evening at their bar, watching the sunset - this is a great choice! (Their restaurant is also pretty good, btw).

Cala del Porto has a timeless charm, and it’s clear the team is working hard to restore the hotel to its former status. We were told it once attracted royalty and celebrities — and with its elevated views and peaceful setting, you can see the appeal.||The hotel appears to have recently changed hands and is clearly still in a period of transition. While refurbishment and service improvements take time, there’s real evidence of effort and investment.||The service throughout our stay was genuinely impressive. Staff were warm, attentive, and eager to help. Virgilio deserves special mention — his service was warm, attentive, and professional. His friendliness and care really stood out.||Dinner at Belvedere was a highlight: beautifully presented dishes, refined flavours, and a tranquil setting that made the evening feel special. The new chef is clearly bringing fresh energy to the culinary offering.||We’d also like to thank Cristina, the hotel manager, for taking all our feedback on board and introducing herself personally. Some of our observations were quite direct, but they were received with professionalism and care.||Gabriel was consistently kind and helpful throughout our stay. Whether chauffeuring us, fixing small issues in the room, or helping with the TV, he was always cheerful and willing to assist — a real credit to the team.||The hotel is in transition. While some areas are being thoughtfully refreshed, others — especially the foyer of the new wing — felt oddly styled or in need of simplification.||It feels like Cala del Porto is in the early stages of a thoughtful revival — and we wish them every success in the journey.

Elegant Setting, Exceptional Service — Excited to See What’s Next Cala del Porto enjoys a stunning setting and timeless charm. We were told it once attracted royalty and celebrities — and you can see why. The hotel appears to have recently changed hands and is clearly still in a period of transition. While refurbishment and service improvements take time, there’s real evidence of effort and investment. The staff were warm, attentive, and eager to help throughout our stay. Virgilio was a standout — his service was thoughtful, friendly, and professional. Gabriel was also fantastic — so kind and helpful, whether driving us, fixing things in our room, or helping with the TV. He went out of his way to make us comfortable. Dinner at Belvedere was a real highlight: refined dishes and a peaceful setting. The new chef seems to be bringing a real sense of energy and finesse. Cristina, the manager, introduced herself and welcomed our feedback with professionalism and care — which we really appreciated. Some parts of the hotel are being refreshed, while others — such as the foyer of the new wing — felt oddly styled and might benefit from a more modern, simplified look. It feels like Cala del Porto is in the early stages of a thoughtful revival — and we wish them every success in the journey.

We arrived at this hotel and were greeted warmly. Strange welcome drink ….there was a bottle of bubbly and bottles of water. We were only offered water! Expected slightly more from a 5* hotel.|We were then taken to our room which had a lovely view of the marina. However, when we looked in the bathroom, the bottom of the bath was badly chipped and rusty just where you would stand to take a shower. The bath taps were also rusty and there was a hair ( not ours!) in one of the basins. To be fair, staff acted quickly and very kindly upgraded us to a lovely suite. |The pool was well tended with a life guard and the surrounding garden and flowers were spectacular.|Our main gripe was not the quality of the food ( which was absolutely delicious) but the monotony of the menu that did not change for the four nights we were there.|I ate the same main course three times. The wine was well chilled but expensive.|I would recommend booking bed and breakfast, eating in once or twice and then sampling the many restaurants in the marina. Breakfast was good with plenty of fruit etc on offer. There is scrambled egg and bacon but if you want eggs cooked a different way, it is extra.|The hotel provides a free shuttle service to the beach resort of Hildago which is about 5 minutes away. The hotel can book your sun beds ( they have a concession of three pitches) for 50 euros per day. We did this once but on the second day, the hotel had no sun beds left so we booked direct with Hildago at a cost of 45 euros per day. Probably best to book direct with the beach resort then!|We didn’t think that this hotel merited 5*’s as obviously some upgrading is needed and there should be a better choice at dinner.|What we would say is that the staff are lovely, especially all the girls on the front desk who are always friendly, smiling and helpful.

From the gorgeous pool to the private beach, every corner of this place is perfect for relaxing. Every evening we had dinner at the restaurant with incredible sunset view… it is postcard!!|The very beautiful and cozy rooms create the feeling that you are participating in the filming of an Italian movie. An incredible experience! And I would really like to mention the very attentive and highly professional staff! Thank you all! You have made our vacation unforgettable!

My husband and I spent the best weekend at this hotel! The room was so cozy, with a stunning sunset view from the balcony. The welcome drink, the luxurious concierge and the very friendly receptionist made us feel special. Breakfast included fresh fruits, cheeses, rolls and aromatic coffee. Hot pancakes and snacks, fresh juices, prosciutto and much more - you will be impressed by how delicious and beautiful everything is!
