We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa with private pool for 5 days in July. The villa was beautiful and spacious and the staff and their service level were excellent. ||The meals at the restaurant were also very good. Our tour agent had also suggested other restaurants in town (Fish & Cheeses and Panga Beach Club Restaurant)and they were also very good!||My friend and I had a chance to go to the Lahari spa at the hotel for massages and a facial and the experience was so good that we had to go again a few days later! Andrea (masseuse and wellness provider) is excellent!!||The only negative thing was that we had a long walk or 10 minute drive to Tamarindo beach if we wanted sand and ocean as the beach at the hotel we were told did not allow swimming due to the rocky beach.||All in all - we would definitely come back as the hotel, its amenities and location were fantastic! Also their cats were amazing - visiting us at the villa and hanging out with us. We met both Cala and Luna - very friendly, chill and seemed liked the ones the place :)

I went to Cala Luna for four nights with a family of four including two teenagers aged 13 and 15. It was out third hotel in CR and we loved it. Place is great, grounds are well cared for, people are nice, food is really good. Beach is beautiful not great for swimming but you can get right to the main beach for that it is not far or inconvenient. Surfing lessons were fantastic use the Cala Luna guys they were great taught both my teens. We stayed in a one bedroom with two queens, it was the smallest room of the three hotels but it was fine, I would have reserved a larger room in hindsight. Special thanks to Donovan for being a great host. We did the farm to table meal at La Senda and it was great, really good people up there and the chef is legit you will be happy to remember he is the chef at the hotel as well. Don't miss sunset drinks on the beach. I recommend staying in Rincon de la Vieja to get your adventures in before going to Tamarindo but if you don't, the bus ride is only 90 minutes max. This was the hotel my kids and probably all of us liked the most, enjoy...

What a magical place! Absolutely stunning hotel and location, with a serene beach you have full access to. The beach isn’t entirely swimmable due to rocks but there are spots for wading which was fine by us. We swam as much as we wanted in the pool and walked for miles on the beach. You are surrounded by nature and we enjoyed spotting monkeys and hearing the birds.||Quick walk into town (about a mile) or you can borrow bikes, or renter scooters/golf karts.||Our room was comfortable and always kept stocked. Staff was incredible! Always helpful and did everything possible to make our stay more enjoyable. They went above and beyond for me when I got my sneakers dirty on our atv tour. The cleaning staff was top notch. Planning our transportation and adventures was so easy through the hotel. Eddy was great setting everything up for us.||Food was delicious. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast every morning and reserved one night at Origen (hotel restaurant). Our Origen dinner was perfection along with the farm to table dinner at La Senda (hotel farm).||We loved every minute of our stay aside from the mosquitoes. Always, always have insect repellent on or you’ll be bitten up. Hotel does provide but we brought our own in order to have readily available.||Really can’t say enough good things. Can’t wait to go back!

Beautiful lush property with great staff that are friendly and professional. Rooms were well appointed and quiet. Pool was comfortable temperature. Beach is nice but not swim able. Restaurant was good. Breakfast was excellent and included. My family of 13 all would go again.

Loved our stay at Cala Luna. The rooms are modern and well designed. The pool is lovely yet small, but the short stroll to the beach offered a private paradise, especially at sunset. We loved that we could walk to the main beach area of Tamarindo and enjoy the fun there and then walk back to our secluded beach and hotel. The breakfast was healthy and fresh and the staff were very accommodating. The cocktail prices were very steep and we live in LA, which surprised us. The food was also expensive but we heard that is indicative of most of Tamarindo and the pacific coast.

When our trip ended we vowed to come back! Not only were the villas comfortable, spacious and tastefully decorated, the service was top notch. We had minor glitches which were quickly addressed. All the staff members were very attentive and prompt. I have to hand it to the morning staff, Flor, Steven and many others who took the time to make sure we had what we needed. We felt very taken care of. Our breakfast had a nice variety- fruits, pastries, hot dishes which include made to order dishes like omelets. And the coffee beats Starbucks! ||They also offered a service that was quite unique - free sunset cocktails! The beach is a short walk through nature where we came across monkeys and iguanas - so lovely! We didn't feel the need to go to any jungle outings. We felt we were in it. As you can see from the pictures the property grounds are like no other we've ever been too. It was well maintained but not too manicured. You really get the rainforest vibe walking around the property. I should add the ambiance around the pool was also great.||We loved the sound baths, yoga and the workout classes which were included. It was again in a beautiful setting that made you feel you were deep in the jungle, including the mosquitoes. However, the staff were thoughtful and offered insect repellent. ||I would highly recommend the on-site restaurant. The menu is very gourmet and there wasn't anything that we ordered that we didn't love. The prices are a little high so that's something to consider. The other factor that could be improved is the amenities on the beach. They had chairs but no umbrellas. We would have loved some shade at the beach which was rocky but had little tide pools. I would recommend bringing water shoes to protect your feet. Overall, it was an amazing vacation and we look forward to returning. Thank you Cala Luna management and staff for giving us such memorable experiences. Imelda and Peter

An Unforgettable Honeymoon at Cala Luna We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect honeymoon experience. From the moment we arrived at Cala Luna, everything exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed lunch, dinner, and breakfast on-site — each meal was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and full of fresh, vibrant flavors. The cocktails were expertly crafted and added a special touch to our meals. The excursions were just as incredible. We rented a golf cart and a surfboard, and also went on both the kayak and ATV tours. Every activity was well-organized, full of adventure, and gave us the perfect mix of excitement and relaxation. The staff made everything seamless and went out of their way to ensure we had an amazing time. Cala Luna provided the ideal backdrop for our honeymoon — peaceful, welcoming, and truly unforgettable. We left feeling relaxed, happy, and deeply grateful for the experience. We would absolutely recommend Cala Luna to anyone visiting Tamarindo. Thank you for helping make our honeymoon so special! — Ally & Mikee

Disappointed – Definitely Not a 4-Star Experience Cala Luna Boutique Hotel is, unfortunately, overrated. While it’s advertised as a 4-star resort, it feels much more like a 3-star hotel—at best. The rooms are outdated, with very basic tile decor and a generally worn-out feel. (See pic). What made it worse was the bathroom setup. There is no ventilation, and the only window in the bathroom is sealed shut. Every time someone uses the shower or toilet, the space becomes completely suffocating. It’s shocking that something so essential is overlooked in a place claiming to offer a premium experience. Another disappointment: no complimentary bottled water. You either have to go out and buy it or refill your bottle at one of the hotel’s shared water stations. For $400 a night, it seems ridiculous that two simple bottles of water aren’t provided. Breakfast is also very basic—think eggs and pancakes—with no variation from day to day. Want bacon? (Which I think is very basic). That’ll cost extra. Again, not what you’d expect from a supposedly upscale hotel. Service was fine, nothing to complain about, but also nothing to rave about. There’s nothing about the property that gives a “resort” vibe. It honestly felt more like a standard 3-star hotel you’d find in the U.S.—but at 4x the price. If I had the chance to do it over again, I would have chosen one of the newer hotels closer to downtown for half the cost. Cala Luna simply doesn’t deliver the value or experience you’d expect at this price point.
