Let's be clear. I'm a meat eater. If someone told me there was no more bacon left in the world, or I could never eat a hamburger again, I would likely cry for weeks. However, meat doesn't have to be in every meal, and a well-made vegetarian or vegan dish can be just as appetizing. Plus, I am always open to trying new cuisines in general.
While spending a few days around the Moncton area, this place looked like a must-try, and it was. The food and decor has a sort of Mexican/Indian flare. Being a Saturday, this place was totally hoppin'. New customers were flowing in every few minutes, but we were lucky enough to snag a seat right away (being a party of 2 helps a lot with that). One small criticism is that they seemed a bit understaffed - the waiters that were there had too much on their plate and were running around like mad men. Being as busy as they were though, they really did an excellent job.
I ordered the Pesto, olive and feta pizza. While not the most unique thing on the menu, I just couldn't resist because those are three of my favorite things. It was excellent, and I gobbled the whole thing up. I just wish there were a couple more olives on it instead of one per slice. I believe my wife got the Taj Mahal Thali, and upon tasting a few bites, was also excellent although extremely different from mine.
Still a bit peckish, we decided to have a look at a dessert menu. Our waiter, approximately as fast as Sonic the Hedgehog, dropped off a couple French dessert menus and said something like "Sorry, only have French Menus left." Before I could utter a word he was gone. I'm sure most native New Brunswickers could manage with this, growing up around so much French, but witnessing a Midwestern American boy trying to make out a French menu when he wasn't expecting to do so, equipped with only 8-weeks of French language, 20 years ago in 8th grade is quite a sight to behold.
Anyway, we had a good laugh about it and I ended up ordering the Gâteau au Bananes, because well, I like Bananas, and it was an exquisite Banana cake with fresh cream, maple drizzle and topped with nuts. I'm so glad we went here, and really wish I could go back because honestly, everything looked really good.
