I Spent 3 Days Biking Around Kyushu, Japan — Here’s Why It Was an Incredible Way to See the Island

"Housed in a large wooden building that once served as a pharmacy, this coastal coffee shop feels warm and welcoming, offering an intimate, restorative stop for travelers exploring the area." - Rosecrans Baldwin Rosecrans Baldwin Rosecrans Baldwin is a Los Angeles Times best-selling author and essayist. Excellent location! The coffee was good, and we got two of the pastries which were good. We also were given a tour of the house, which is old, beautiful, and authentic. Definitely stop in here!

Hidden cafe (literally! Watch your head on your way in 😅) in a traditional Japanese house. Many seating options and delicious coffee. Some facilities are difficult to find due to the layout of the house. The garden is beautiful!

This cafe was such an unexpected find - I was in the area and looking for coffee, when I was this on Google maps, and am so glad I went to check it out! The house is an old historical warehouse for medical supplies, the building is 100 years old and just beautiful. I enjoyed the coffee and the tiramisu I had there, whilst chatting a little with the owners, and took a walk around the back to the garden which was beautiful - it even has a momiji tree.

Beautiful traditional house converted into a quaint and peaceful cafe. Recommended by a good friend as her grandma used to live in this building. The architecture and structure remain almost entirely the same. Fresh lemonade made with lemons from a local orchard. Lovely and welcoming owners.

What an amazing spot! We stayed there with our two young kids and it was so special. We loved our beautiful room, the lovely bathing area and the view of the garden. And of course you can’t beat hosts like that - we felt so welcomed. The AC was fantastic too :) Walking distance to the beach, shops, etc. Thank you for having us!

Amazing place, unique in many ways. Gentle, delicate coffee taste and nice dessert. But the most important thing is the place itself and especially the owner's attitude! It's a place to relax, chat, touch the antiques, listen to music, visit some local event. It's an Itoshima style, it's a real cross of ancient and modern the way it should be.

A really lovely place for afternoon tea - the cafe is in a restored old (140 year old?) Japanese building which is in great condition and very beautiful. Ordered the rare cheesecake and the iced coffee, both were amazing and the cheesecake came with kinkan jam on top which went very nicely with the cake. The tableware is very pretty too. Very reasonable prices too. Really friendly owner who speaks good English, made conversation and showed me around the building - lots of care taken in preserving and decorating it and it shows! The wooden beams on the second floor look very amazing. The garden is very beautiful, you can see it when you walk to the toilet! Owner also gave me recommendations for my time in Karatsu! Altogether a very nice cafe, good to have a relaxing time and would 100% recommend if you visit the area 😁
