Oh man, Calcutta. For above-average quality Indo-Chinese food at way, way below-average prices, this is the go-to. There are definitely better Indo-Chinese restaurants around with a fancier ambiance, but none of them can beat a $5-6 lunch special with an entree, rice, and soup. Each time I now come back to Edison from the city, I can't believe that deals at that good of a price point can still exist.
The service is excellent. I'll frequently order from here with a quoted wait time of 10-15 minutes. In other words, your food is ready by the time you drive here to pick it up (and yes, they deliver too). When dining in-house, the staff are friendly and responsive.
The venue itself is not super trendy or upscale at all, obviously, but it's clean, homey, and well-maintained, with ample parking.
It's hard to go wrong with any of the food options here; I've yet to have something I haven't liked. That being said, if you're into spicier food, the baseline heat here is already pretty good, and (at request) they're happy to add on even more to suit your preferences.
Calcutta is a definite 3 for quality, +0.5 for a high quality-to-cost ratio, and another +0.5 for the nostalgia of all the times we cut 12th period in high school to pig out here. For cheap, good eats, this is your spot.
