review summary: not Indian food Food: 3/10 || Service: 5/10 || Atmosphere: 6.5/10 Dishes I recommend: Papri Chaat It almost pains me to write this as I try to be as generous as possible in my reviews but….. it just wasn’t Indian food. Someone thinking of eating here should take a quick through the lower-end reviews from the past few months because they capture the sentiments of my experience better than I can. The atmosphere was okay, but they did turn the lights down so low (~8:30pm?) that I wondered how anyone was able to see their food in front of them. Our server seemed kind and great at first, and being celiac and Muslim, I appreciated that they easily answered my questions about whether the meat was halal (it was not, but I didn’t expect it to be), and what dishes were gluten-free. They were helpful in navigating the menu and my friend and I liked that they provided recommendations because it was our first time there! We ordered the papri chaat and the palak paneer with a medium basmati rice together at the beginning. When asked at the time we ordered, we had said that we would be happy to have the papri chaat to start. For some reason, our server understood having “a dish to start” to mean we were going to eat through the whole chaat first before wanting our main course to arrive. We ate the chaat while waiting for our main course to arrive for almost an hour (not wanting to get immediately full on the starter before getting a chance to taste the main dish). The chaat was genuinely quite tasty, flavourful, well-presented and well-prepared!!! the saving grace of our dining experience here. My friend and I have never experienced the assumption/service that getting a dish to start meant we wouldn’t want our main course to be arriving to us soon after. We had to flag down our server for them to tell us that they thought we were going to finish the starter before wanting the main dish in front of us (which was not the case, as we had ordered everything together at the beginning)! Strange, truly. Anyhow, the main reason for my review is… the unsettling main course of the palak paneer. There was such a lack of flavour or anything about the dish that deserved to be considered Indian. I also don’t usually refer to Indian dishes to calling them curries, but it didn’t even taste like curry!!! The paneer seemed to be grilled or deep fried to the point of being hard to eat, and the dish itself….. tasted like spinach water. It arrived with a decorative dry red chili on top that we could tell wasn’t used in the cooking of the dish because of the taste. The basmati rice was passable but overall subpar. My friend and I were baffled as to how the dish must have been prepared for it to taste as flavourless and disjointed as it did. We were quite hungry when we arrived and we were looking forward to the main course after how tasty the chaat was, but the palak paneer was so dissatisfying and strange that we couldn’t stomach more than our first few bites. I am disheartened to be writing this review, but it feels wrong to not share my friend and I’s experience (as people who were raised on, frequently eat, and deeply appreciate all kinds of Indian food) about how this wasn’t Indian food. My friend and I are thankful that the server heard our feedback and dissatisfaction about the dish and offered to take the palak paneer and the rice off our bill. Considering it would’ve been at least $25 for something we didn’t end up being able to eat through after the first few bites, we appreciated that it wasn’t something we would be charged for. Overall…. just a bizarre experience. All I can say after everything is that I wouldn’t go to this place expecting Indian, unless you’ve never had Indian ever? This isn’t to say Indian food does or even has to taste the same everywhere, or that it has to be spicy, but the palak paneer showed that the food was being prepared without experience of the cuisine, all while being advertised as something else.

This wasn’t our first time to Calcutta Cricket Club, but it was our first time to this location. We walked in and, just like the interior wowed when they were on 17th, we were delighted by the new and improved decor scheme. One eats with their eyes first, as they say, and though the saying refers to the food, the atmosphere here improves the experience for sure!! For a Sunday night, it was full, so we waited for about 15 minutes for a table. During this time, we met Brooklyn the manager who doted on us for the rest of the evening. Her considerations, as well as Hugo’s (our waiter), were above and beyond and deeply appreciated by my husband and I, my mom, and my two pre-teen boys. Top notch food, top notch service, top notch environment. Don’t miss this beautiful experience!

The restaurant is beautifully decorated. Even the toilets are great. The ambiance is good. Music was fine and so was the lighting at 6.30 pm tonight Great service by Hugo 👍👏. The manager was very kind when she came to speak to us ( sorry didn’t ask her name). The Puchka was underwhelming in taste. Looks like they’ve put some dry beans for decoration but PLEASE mention it to the guests that it is not edible! People tend to think that everything on the plate is edible which I think is a reasonable expectation. The aloo chat was not to our liking;needed some more seasoning ( salt). Perhaps you can offer it on the table to people who want a little more of it because it is essential for the Indian inspired dishes to give the tasty punch. When you call it a chat, we expect some red onion and Sev ( fine crunchy vermicelli of gram flour) on it and not big chunks of potato with sauces. I’d like some crunch to balance the large amounts of roast potato in the dish. The chicken Kathi roll was delicious 😋. The eggplant dish was very good even without the yoghurt( my daughter cannot have dairy). The Paneer dumplings were very tasty and the sauce was good too. I’d like it with a little more salt which would have elevated the taste further. The butter chicken sauce was absolutely brilliant; but the chicken cooking was abysmal!! Hard , dry and very unpleasant! Shame because the sauce was fantastic. The cabbage was an interesting dish. We liked the concept but felt it needed another couple of spoons of the sauce for the large size of the cabbage presented( I’m not expecting the cabbage to be floating in the gravy). May be worthwhile suggesting the guests that it goes with the rice than the naan bread( thankfully my wife didn’t order her favourite naan to go with it)The pilau rice was excellent! The garlic naan however was less exciting; felt more like a flat bread with butter on it. I applaud the chef’s attempt at creating some thing new👏. However don’t go there expecting to eat typical Indian food and blame the place for not serving it because it’s is not typical fare and I respect the chef for being creative 👏. However I’ll be critical if you call something chaat, phuchka ( which normally should give an explosion of flavour in your mouth with one bite of it) and not deliver. But clearly he’s got his craft perfect when it comes to the sauces( the French way!)

Had a work supper here for 12 of us. We were honoured to have Justin as our server. He was absolutely fantastic. Funny, kind, full of energy. He made our whole night. The food of course, was phenomenal. I have always loved this place, and in their new location it still hits the spot. I cannot say enough good things about this truly remarkable restaurant.

Calcutta hands down has the best happy hour in town and such a great patio. The atmosphere was great even tho it was just us lol, service was good and the happy hour cocktail and bites were fantastic! Love CCC.

Google
So I am a regular at this restaurant. I have slowly seen a few things go down. I always get the “Taste of Calcutta” which used to be like the chef’s menu, but is basically a fixed menu 4 course meal. Now one starter was dropped from the menu, but that is fine, as I knew that when we choose the menu. But, the portion sizes have drastically gone down. We were a party of three, and as per the format, all three of us ordered the fixed menu — which is great in theory. However, the portions barely felt sufficient for two people. It’s worth noting that many of the starters are prepped regardless of whether there’s one guest or three, so why not scale the portions accordingly? Either that, or serve the smaller portions but make sure each paying guest gets their own — especially when each person is being charged individually for the set menu. Dessert portions have also noticeably shrunk. The flavours remain excellent — no complaints there — but the quality and variety of ingredients have taken a hit. Salads now have far fewer microgreens, the chaat has been reduced to just potatoes, and we were given only two garlic naans for three people. As for the service — the servers themselves were lovely, polite, and very professional. But they were clearly understaffed. It took 51 minutes for the starters to arrive, and another 45 minutes after that for the mains — despite it being a quiet Monday evening with the patio closed and indoor seating not even full. Even the server apologized and thanked us for our patience, which we appreciated — but the delays point to a management issue, not staff performance. This used to be our favourite restaurant in Calgary, and it’s honestly disappointing to say I’m not sure I’d return. If management would like to compare, I have photos from previous visits and from this one — happy to share.

Such a beautiful environment! Just look at the attached photo! The food was fantastic- deserves Michelin stars! Hugo, our server for our 10+ person party provided excellent service all night. He didn’t slip up ONCE! This whole experience was such a treat! If I ever find my way back to this city- I know where to come for a great night out!

Google
Probably had my expectations high for the place so the disappointment. Menu Choice very limited. Kati roll is made with a paratha felt too oily and possibly a frozen paratha. Would be nice if the paratha said Tawa or tandoori just a thought, as I assumed it was cooked in tandoor as it was right below naan and roti. The lamb/goat dish Kosha Mangsho was very nice. Not sure if there's any spice level options but it was super mild for a desi. Overall nice experience.

Yelp
On our last evening of a short trip to Calgary, we decided to indulge in the city's Indian cuisine. Not naan and chicken tikka masala; a full-on Indian feast. The Calcutta Cricket Club, which offers a tasting menu called the "Taste of Calcutta," was just what we were after! The restaurant moved to its current location at 1213 1st St. SW in December 2023 from its previous location on Calgary's 17th Avenue. This new - and larger - location is just about a half-kilometer from the Calgary Tower and the many hotels that surround it, making it an easy walk to the restaurant and, importantly, gave us the opportunity to walk off some of what was sure to be a filling dinner afterward. We arrived a few minutes before the7:15 reservation we'd made on OpenTable and were shown to our seat immediately. The 100-seat restaurant was moderately busy and would get busier very shortly. Our server brought water and menus within moments of our being seated, made recommendations when we told him we were going to have the tasting menu, then took our drink orders. With our solid food choices already made, the only thing left for us to decide were the wines to go with it. My wife chose an off-dry Riesling while I opted for a Pinot Gris. Both complemented the spicy fare we were going to have quite well. The first items brought to our table were a bowl of chaat (a potato salad) and a plate with three different chutneys: mango, pineapple, and a green chutney called "hari." It's made of coriander and mint leaves, garlic, ginger and chilis. Modest heat, despite the chilis. Once we'd tucked into the potato salad, our server brought the other items on the first course: a tomato salad, achari paneer and chili chicken. We thoroughly enjoyed the chaat, tomato salad and chicken but felt the paneer was a bit on the bland side. Even generous portions of the curries didn't help much. The second course consisted of our choice of curry served with naan, basmati riche and lasooni raita. Intending to "compare and contrast," my wife chose the lamb curry while I went with butter paneer. Other options included eggplant, mussels, prawns, and chickpeas. Given my comment about the achari paneer, it's important to note that we chose our main courses before sampling the appetizers. Otherwise, we'd likely have chosen something other than the paneer curry. The lamb curry was our favorite. Lots of flavor from a variety of spices, but none too hot. The paneer had the same sauce used on butter chicken so had a bit more flavor than the paneer appetizer, but still wasn't as flavorful as we'd have preferred. The naan was hot and tasty, the basmati rice fluffy and light, and the lasooni raita provided a nice, cooling note (if one needed it). Dessert was the "Chef's Choice." Unfortunately, we didn't note the name but it tasted very much like the best cheesecake you've ever eaten, but with a much creamier texture. Throughout the evening, the service was excellent. A variety of servers, expediters and even the manager would bring the new dishes to our table and clear the empty plates, keep the water filled, and offer to refresh our beverages. By the time we were finished, the restaurant had gone from modestly busy to completely full and had started to empty out again. Understandable, as one does not rush dinner with such an extensive tasting menu. As we were getting ready to leave, the manager came by to make sure everything was to our liking, which indeed it was. Obviously, we enjoyed some items more than others but there wasn't a thing I'd call disappointing. And we thought the price was very reasonable: CAN$55 per person for the meal, plus beverages and tips. With three glasses of wine between the two of us, a gratuity for our server and an additional $10 tip directly to the kitchen, our evening out was about $220. An excellent meal and, for an evening of fine dining, an excellent value. HIGHLY recommended.

Yelp
Absolutely gorgeous restaurant with an interesting modern Indian menu. We had a party of six and everybody liked everything we tried. My favorite was the cabbage dish, which maybe isn't for everybody, but it was spectacular. I was underwhelmed by the yellow daal it was thin and a little meh... But I spent lots of time in South India, and have lofty daal expectations. Attentive service. Portions could be a little larger, but that seems to be how it goes in high end restaurants and this one is worth it for the fantastic menu and absolutely beautiful ambience. Oh and do try that papri chaat with some papadums to start! Yum. The cocktail menu was pretty fabulous too.

Yelp
Ran into this spot after leaving the Calgary tower and we absolutely loved it! It was my very first time trying out Indian food and it was an absolute success! Very aesthetically pleasing spot. The service was phenomenal and waiters gave great recommendations! Drinks were super unique and delicious! Definitely check them out and try out different ones. Great and varied selection. Started off with chicken curry which was very rich and flavorful served over fries. Then ate Murgh Makani and chicken Malai with basmati rice and naan. Those are some of the top dishes in this restaurant and we truly enjoyed it. The murgh makani was very well seasoned and a bit spicy. The chicken malai was a very comforting dish, creamy, light and delicious! We took some naan with us as a snack on the plane as we travel back home. Can't wait to return and enjoy this place once again!

Yelp
Service and overall feel of the place is really good. The food was above average and didn't live upto the hype. Still a decent place to visit with family and friends

Yelp
Excellent food, ambiance and service! I loved the Kathi rolls here so much that I had two of them. We also tried the lamb biryani which was nothing I've ever had in North America before - IMO it's a must try! The malai chicken was so juicy and flavorful and tender. They also have a wide variety of Indian whiskeys which was nice. Highly recommend this place if you're visiting Calgary!

Yelp
Came for the lunch special and had the lamb. It was one of the better lamb dishes I've ever had, and recommend it. The price for the lunch special is fair, and the interior decor is aesthetic. Service was quick, but we did go during a quite period

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful spot. Love the decor and vibes here. The $25 express lunch is amazing and a great value. Great amount of food with great flavors. Has a great impact and so filling. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Wow the new location is absolutely stunning. Our food and service was decadent. If you haven't please do it, and if you have, do it again. Five thumbs

Yelp
Came here for our anniversary dinner tonight, was over 2 hours. The value is just not there, the food is barely ok and the service wasn't great...but at least the atmosphere is nice. We went with the Taste of Calcutta which gives a wide variety, our second course wasn't entered so the food came out extremely late and came out wrong. Had to wait to get the right order. The Murgh Makhani only had 2 pieces of chicken but at least it tastes good, the butter paneer was bland and boring... Whatever the dessert was, well it was inedible. FAR TOO much cardomon and salt. Just awful. So for $200, there were only 2 things that I actually enjoyed. There are many other places I would suggest going to as this place is overcharging for substandard dishes with lacklustre service. Save yourself the disappointment.

Yelp
Something about the curry, the naan and awesome vibe in this place. It is excellent place for slow Saturday night where you don't want to finish as everything is just soooo good. Love the place.

Yelp
Food was great! Didn't order anything else just the SPIT TOASTED CHICKEN (Deboned, marinated & grilled half chicken with butter lettuce, spiced green chutney & fresh herbs. (GF,DF) -- shared it with a friend :) just enough for two of us. Might help to note that we weren't too hungry. I'd say it's good for 2 people if the appetite is just moderate. If hungry, order more. Haha Taste wise, the food was excellent especially the price!! Quantity was just enough in my opinion!! Tasted pretty authentic. I personally just enjoyed my meal. Service was great, all the employees were enthusiastic, accommodating and just happy to serve. Ambiance was great! I loved the vibe. Very well curated, coherent and clean. Will totally go back!! 5/5 (Might help to note: great for date nights!)

Yelp
The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The food and cocktails were amazing. We had a great time there!

Yelp
Great ambiance, service staff had great recommendations on drinks and food. Drinks and food came in promptly. Very flavorful and eye pleasing dishes . We had the chicken tandoori and keema Kati rolls. It's a good for a starter and packed with flavor. Keema Kati roll I felt was better. The malai chicken was also recommended and it was a much heavier dish but flavorful.

Yelp
The restaurant has wonderful vibes inside with their super cool and thoughtful design and decor. We sat at the bar, which has these vintage lamps that make it perfect to see and eat food up there. Ordering one main dish, one side of rice, and naan was enough to feed two people. If you're extra hungry, you can definitely get away with ordering a second dish. Food: Spicy Shortrib (5/5) - This was definitely spicy but not overwhelming. So good! Basmati (5/5) - Cooked perfectly. Garlic Naan (5/5) - I could have a whole meal just of the naan! Drinks: Township 24 "Her Majesty's Service" Earl Grey Kolsch (5/5) - You could really taste the earl grey, but it was very pleasant and not overwhelming at all.

Tanvi Y.

Yelp
I was apprehensive making a reservation for this place for my dad's birthday, but we left pleasantly surprised with the service, food, and ambiance. The outside of the place doesn't look like much, but the interior is beautiful and well thought out. The food was great! We are an Indian family and are used to having Indian food routinely. It is important to understand that places like this have to accommodate to a large number of customers from a variety of backgrounds excluding desis, thus the flavor intensities may be slightly muted. We felt that the fish and malai chicken could've used a little more flavor. The daal was great and the naan was fresh. Loved the drinks and the staff was extremely friendly! Wish there were a few more dessert options.

Yelp
The food here was Great!!! I can't wait to go back! That Chili Chicken, I need that in LA, CA!

Yelp
Never had the opportunity to go. Called and they were extremely rude and did not understand a basic question (do you do call ahead seating?). I'm extremely disappointed bc we were looking forward to trying their food but next time, the manager should understand that they are in a service business and kindness goes a long way. Travelers steer clear and give your business to someone who can manage to answer the phone without an attitude. Our recommendation is Cinnamon!

Yelp
Food was delicious especially the chili chicken. The ambient inside was relaxing and the decor looked interesting. Our server (Mikey) was really nice and attentive and helped give recommendations and answer our many questions. The only reason it does get 5 stars is that the flavor in the lamb was reflective of Calcutta. It tasted good but my husband had different expectation. Wish we had more space and time to try more food options.

Yelp
This is a great spot! Street parking was a bit difficult to find, but there is a parking garage nearby. The decor was super cute in this spot with every detail contributing the the ambiance. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and the best part of the meal was the chai. I would recommend this restaurant to a friend.

Nicole M.

Yelp
I had an amazing dinner with two friends last. The food was exceptional!! There was another patron who was getting aggressive and making us uncomfortable. The team, without being asked, noticed and worked together to sneak us out back. We felt very cared for!!! Thank you all!

Yelp
Best flaky garlic naan in Calgary! Food was mostly great, but I would skip ordering chaat next time. They have outdoor seating, service was quick and nice

Yelp
The new location is wonderful, 4 of us ordered $55 per person dinner, let me tell you the small 4 bowls of appetizers were really good and flavorful. Dinner curries in small bowls did not taste good at all, the prawn curry had two pieces of prawn lol. Same with other curries like 3 small pieces of chicken or lamb and the cauliflower was so salty. The desert of the day was gajrela we were told is on sweeter side, oh my goodness, it tasted like it had 2 lbs sugar bag dumped in the small bowls. We've eaten Indian foods so often and made us wonder how is this restaurant on the top list in Calgary. The menu says you get daal and raita, it was a joke, 4 people got the littlest bowl (which could be used for sauce for 4 ppl) of daal with even another joke which was Raita that probably was 1 oz little plastic thingy. We died laughing. That for 4 people who are paying $55 dollars per person. We received two bowls of rice which was satisfactory none of us is a big eater but 4 of us received 2 naans. Anyways before I had tasted the daal and raita I asked, is that all we are getting, so he brought another bowl of daal and raita. Then I had to ask if that's all we were getting only 2 naans. So he brought 2 more. After having half spoon of the desert which was supposed to be gajrela who knows what it was though we paid our $300 dollars bill for 4 which had two beers and a coke, and tip, as we were putting our jackets on, I mentioned to the waiter about the sugar bomb desert and he now at this time gave a substitute, something called misty dough, but why that choice wasn't offered when I asked what was for desert, why did we have to ask for daal or naan. They should mention that on the menu that you pay $55 dollars per person and will get half naan. I'm not only complaining about the quantity here I'm also saying only the appetizers tasted good that's all. Next time under any circumstances if I'm forced to go there by friends I'll stick with appetizers. Long unedited review of full experience.

Brian J.

Yelp
Wow! I stumbled upon this place and I'm happy I did. Swankiest Indian restaurant ever- great atmosphere. Gourmet food and awesome servers and the manager or owner takes care to visit the table. The onion naan with onion seed is so good I ate it alone. But the best thing of all is the 80s mix they play.

Yelp
Great food. Traditional Bengali cuisine with a modern fusion that keeps the tastes fresh and exciting!

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a Friday. It's on the most happening street of Calgary which is the 17th Street. It has a beautiful decor although they can do better in their music playlist choices. Their servers are wonderful people. We got some unique cocktails from their menu which lived up to the mark. We also had kathi rolls - lamb and chicken..both were so flavorful and juicy. Highly recommend those. Fyi- these rolls are for $5 on a Sunday and during happy hours which is a great deal.

Yelp
Excellent,Sheena was excellent, as a waitress. Food was exquisite especialy the butter chicken marsala with paneen. However I would have given them 5* if they had brown rice... Otherwise enjoy!

Yelp
Great spot! Worth checking out for sure - especially during happy hour. Went with a group of six people and arrived just before 6:00 pm, in time for happy hour. Generally, I shy away from places that are less than four stars, but I'm glad we didn't this time. Our waitress was engaging, funny, witty, and hospitable. She encouraged us to get our happy hour order in quickly. So we orders a total of eight plates, doubling up on most of them. Here's what we recommend: - Papri Chaat - YES. A sweet and spicy mix of seasoned potatoes, chutney, chickpeas, yogurt and a dash of spices. Really good - medium heat. - Paneer & Honey - Personally, I really enjoyed it. Perhaps the best paneer I've had, the touch of honey and pistachios are Calcutta inspired and unlike typical Indian food fare. If you like some sweetness, go for it. At our table, it's was not a favourite but again I really liked it. One of my top 2 favourite starters that we had. - Chips & Curry - YES. It's basically fries (not potato chips) and curry - but the curry sauce is creamy and delicious. We had two and they went fast. - Chili Chicken YES YES! So good! Spicy - fried in a Sesame, Soy and Chili glaze. Wow, so good. Again two orders and were devoured! - Gunpowdered Vegetables - we only ordered one to get our fix of veggies. Save your stomach room for the other dishes. Mains were a mix of Kati Rolls and Entrees. - we split three Kati Rolls - two chicken and one lamb, all with an extra egg included. The roll itself was soft, tasty, and delicious. The size of the roll was a little smaller than expected and the contents (chicken and lamb) were good - but nothing exceptional. Worth trying - Trout Malai - YES. This was a favourite amongst the group. I personally had a lot of curry items already, so was a little carried out. But the ladies in our group said that this dish was their favourite. The trout skin was seasoned well - salty and light spices- and a perfectly thin and snappy texture. The trout itself was beautifully cooked - soft, tender, light - and picked up on the curry coconut flavour so well. - We also had the TFC. After two orders of the Chili Chicken, it was a lot of Fried chicken. It was yummy, but most of our group tapped out by then. To drink, we had an assortment of cocktails and colas. The bartenders are entertaining and take pride in their work. We sat close to the bar and enjoyed the overall energy level of sitting there. Great spot. Deserves to be four stars at least. I would definitely come back here with a large group. At happy hour, with plenty of food ordered and a few drinks, our bill was less than $200. That's insane - and way better value than an Earl's or Cactus Club for the quality of food and experience you get. Note: if you want to try the Biryani - order it early as it takes a lot of time to prep.

Yelp
I ate here a while ago and added many photos of what I ate. Needless to say it was delicious. However, deliciousness does come with a price and this deliciousness was a little more expensive then I like to pay. However, the reason this place is getting such a good rating is because of the decor. If anywhere gets an award for best decor or 5 stars only for decor it is only this place! I was reading the spring/summer 2018 edition of dote magazine today and I finally found out where the decor came from that I had to share: " Designed and conceptualizer by artist Maya Gohill, Calcutta Cricket Club has presented authentic Bengali cuisine to Calgary in a fresh and innovative way. The vibrant interior evokes a nostalgic feeling reminiscent of a Wee Anderson film, with soft pinks, unique textures, and a ferocious leopard hung over the awe-inspiring bar." This sums it up well :)

Yelp
A must go in Calgary!! We were visiting from nyc and stumbled upon this gem!! Christina was our waitstaff and was amazing. She was so conscientious of my partner's allergy and had amazing recommendations for the menu. The best Indian we have had. We loved the onion naan, butter chicken curry, shortrib pepper fry, and chicken Kati roll. The mango G&T was also a hit!! Thank you Calcutta cricket club!!

Yelp
I wanted to dine here because I thought the dining room was very stylish. However, it is a destination dining experience. Everything was perfect. The room in fact is beautiful and exotic. The service was impressively attentive and friendly. But the food was so tasty. I had the "Taste of India" tasting menu. The portions were ridiculously large for one person (but that is not a complaint). Even though the food is spicy, everything had a distinctive flavour. Some things were inventive (French fries with a yellow curry) while traditional items were done to perfection. Also you must check out Safron gin martini.

Yelp
My husband and I decided to check out something different in Calgary since we were just visiting for a weekend. We walked in and the place was packed, we were glad we got a table or we assumed that the food would be great. We weren't that impressed unfortunately. The decor was super was different, a south indian vibe with leafy green wallpaper. We ordered the beef lolipops which were so amazing, they came off the bone like butter and the flavour was out of this world. We ordered the biryani that was cover in a dough which they opened at the table for us to allow the aroma to take over the sense, smart move, however the flavour was a total let down. We didn't end up finishing it or packing it up. The yogurt and the salad were decent but at par with any other Indian restaurant. I checked out the menu on the website and seems like it has changed. I would try it out again if I went to Calgary and see if its made a difference. Great service. Overall 2-2.5/5

Yelp
Food was great! One thing I'll mention about the service is that I was disappointed they didn't let our table know there would be gratuity added. It's usually common practice to let the customers know. Since our table was sharing a lot of food we didn't really scan the bill prior to payment to notice the added gratuity, so most of us tipped out 40 percent in the end. It was a bit frustrating to realize on an already expensive bill.

Yelp
This place is seriously fab! The decor is modern and the service was welcoming, attentive, and friendly. I came with my Indian partner who raved about the food as well. I particularly loved the Kati rolls, which I had never had before. Highly recommend adding an egg to your roll! I also really liked the Paneer and Saag. For cocktails, I had the Autumn Orchard which was delicious! Definitely made a good choice there. I'm a vegetarian and there were lots of options on the menu to choose from. Highly recommend checking this place out! If you like Indian food, it won't disappoint!

Yelp
I have given this place many chances with the hope that food will be great next time but there is definitely something missing in the quality of food. The decor and the vibe is great and the service is great as well, which is why I wish the food was just as great, but it wasn't. We got Papri Chaat, Paneer Kathi Roll for appetizer and Aubergine, Naan, House Daal and Rice for main course. The food presentation was excellent. Paneer in Kathi Roll was a big cube and that texture of a big cube didn't work as well to bring out the flavors that a crumbled or smaller piece of Paneer could. It doesn't come with a chutney, we had to order it on the side. Aubergine was good. House Daal was cold but flavorful. Their Daals are my favorite thing on the menu and they have a different one each day. The Naan was too soft but almost made me feel like it's not cooked properly. I like my Naan a little crunchy. The quality and freshness of ingredients and/or preparation is questionable given that I didn't feel good after and the next morning. This is a good date night spot but the food is okay. I would go back only for rice and daal. It seems like they put a lot of thought in decor and presentation but fell short in quality of food.

Yelp
Amazing food, excellent service and perfect way to end our trip. The drinks were unique and delicious. We order the chips (fries) and fenugreek gravy which had a great taste, chili chicken, achari paneer, butter chicken and dal makhani.

Yelp
I was visiting Calgary for a couple days and Calcutta Cricket Club had such an amazing vibe I came back both nights I was there! The overall feel I got from the decor was my grandmother's pink bedroom meets Indian tribal chic. (If that's even a thing.) You walk in and instantly feel a little bit cooler and chicer sitting down at the pink-chaired, rattan tables. I came without a reservation both nights and was able to sit at the bar (there seemed to be a good amount of room at the bar for walk ins). The bartenders were all REALLY good looking and were also very helpful in recommending brunch spots, places for cocktails following dinner, and then some. In addition to being good looking and informative they also made delicious cocktails! The menu is very tongue-and-cheek with funny, punny names for food and drink items. The food itself is good, but not great. On the yelp scale I would give it a 3.5/5. The first night I dined here, I got the beef curry and it was very low on spice/flavor. The second time I came here, I spit 4-5 dishes with my girlfriends--We shared the beef curry, the masala curry, and the peneer curry and MAN did they crank up the spice. At one point I had to take a break from eating to let my mouth cool down for 5 minutes. It seems like the recipe varies slightly depending on who is in the kitchen, which is OK. It kind of gives the food more of a, "My grandma is in the kitchen and has been making these dishes for 50 years, it's never the same." type of feel. It's obvious when you step into the restaurant that the food is just one part of the overall dining experience. With Calcutta Cricket Club, there is so much more. It's the beautifully designed restaurant, the delicious cocktails, the attentive (and good looking) waitstaff, and being a part of the lively scene they've created. If you're in Calgary, CCC is a stop you absolutely should not miss.

Yelp
A gold plated t**d, at best. As you enter the restaurant you're greeted with smiling faces and a decor that is truly envious. That experience begins to fall flat, almost immediately thereafter. For starters, a table of 4 was reserved that was changed to a table of 5 without incident. Short or the odd chair that was hurriedly added to the table. Having asked if we could use a standard chair from one of the 2 empty tables adjacent from us, a 'as you please, big man.' Ostentatious response to a trivial and valid request. Seated, we order our beverages and our appetizers: the young lady serving us is courteous and polite. Within minutes, 2 appetizers, the tandoori prawns and the chili chicken promptly appear. The chili chicken is passed around and as it makes my way to me, a bite surrounded with hair makes it's way to my mouth. Note, major faux pas, no beverages at the table just yet. Restauranteur 101. I place the hair on my plate and usher the gentleman that served us. A manager, I'm sure, on account of his uniform being different from the rest. An apology and a good request to replace the dish from the gent. My plate remains in front of me. The gent rushes off to get a replacement and I ask for our drinks. They arrive shortly thereafter. Plate still in front of me. Finally, my plate is taken, the replacement chili chicken is served. No plate for me to eat it with just yet. Utterly disappointing. The mains arrive right after my replacement plate. Success. Right? Yes, the food is delicious. The lack of service, not so much. Could it be that the only authentically Indian family is being served with far less attention than all non-exotic types? Oh non, mon dieu: the race card. (No, but sure felt like it). Asked if we require more mains or a accoutrement, no. 'Please pack this.' A plastic bag of our leftovers is promptly placed on the table. Again, hold that till you've asked me what we may want for dessert! Rookie hour. Finally, the bill arrives. I'm too disappointed to see if any concessions are made on account of the service or the bloody hair in my meal. I pay. We leave. Calcutta Cricket Club, get it together! May have been a bad night, but this caliber at these prices for a resto going for the Best of Calgary award is downright shameful. Be well, get better and take care.

Yelp
I've eaten Indian food my entire life. I've never had Indian food so devoid of flavour. Pass. Hard pass. Just go elsewhere. Anju is next door and actually good.

Yelp
Each and every time I come here I find something new to fall in love with. The food is always amazing, and the staff are very friendly. The fresh vibe they bring to their modern take one Indian cuisine is a welcome change. The amazing cocktails and high energy atmosphere really make this a place to return to time and again.

Yelp
Did DoorDash & luckily they had free delivery. There was literally 5 small pieces of meat in each dish. Definitely not worth $19 each! The butter chicken was super salty but the beef was nice which gave it a balance. Sadly though the naan was burnt. But what can you do when so hungry?!!

Yelp
Was excited then was disappointed... Expensive for what you get... Portions were quite small for the price. We are actually happy to pay more if delicious and worth it but couldn't justify it here. Flavours were mellow but fell short and left us wanting more? I love Indian food and didn't expect it to be truly authentic but was wanting that punch of delicious Indian spices. It seemed to be scaled back to appeal to everyone. We shared the phuchkas (decent), lamb keema Kati (flakey bread was tasty and small but best part of meal), chicken tikka (small 3 pieces), pork butter marsala (like a decent butter chicken), garlic naan (not bad) and basmati with glee (greasy and maybe not fully cooked through). Loved the restaurant decor however and service was pretty good. Likely won't return though.

Yelp
While the CCC may not have the most authentic Indian food, it fills its niche on 17th perfectly. The bar is large, the place packed, and the energy level is turned way up. Service is more than attentive and the well priced food complements the cocktails perfectly. The manager overlooks the process, head swiveling, making sure this well tooled machine runs well. With an uplifting, bright, British Raj decor, cool patio, lots of eye candy, the Calcutta Cricket Club is simply "perfect," (the word of the year), if never excellent.

Yelp
Calcutta Cricket Club came out of nowhere. The second restaurant to open by the same owners as Native Tongues Taqueria, triple C specializes in Bengali food. This may be the first foray into making Indian food hipster. We decided to check this place out on a Friday night around 7:00pm. No reservations. They have a patio outside that's gorgeous. The inside colour scheme reminded me of a watermelon (green booth seats with pink chairs and walls). Service was friendly but all over the place. She brought us out incorrect drinks, offered free chai (never came) and forgot about our fish dish because we finished our whole meal then waited a half hour for it to finally arrive. Yikes. - 3x Banded Peak's Mango passion saison ($7.00 10oz) - never had Banded Peak before so we gave it a shot. Pretty good but I get why they only give you 10oz. - Dandy's Bright Young Things: English Summer Ale ($7.00 for 16oz) - this one was more drinkable. - Mocktail ($4.00) - S hated it. He couldn't even finish half of it. - Railway station chai ($3.50) - this was actually good. Steeped with milk, sugar, cardamom, ginger and clove. Totally overpriced. If they're going to charge this much, you should be getting unlimited refills. - 5x Garlic naan ($3.50) - I didn't taste any garlic. We originally ordered three but then ordered two more for some other items that didn't show up till late. By that time, the naan was cold. - Basmati ($3.50) - small portion for the price. Not much taste either. - Papri chaat ($7.00) - Semolina crisps, spiced potatoes, yogurt, onions, chickpeas, mint, tamarind, chaat masala, sev & pomegranate. This was really bland. - Paneer kati roll ($8.00) - fresh cheese served with lime, onions, chat masala, green chills and Maggi hot & sweet sauce. S got it with egg ($2.00). He liked this dish best out of the three vegetarian ones he ordered. - 2x Paneer & honey ($6.00) - seasoned and seared with Bengali garam and kashmiri chili. Topped with local honey and pistachios. To us, it tasted like cinnamon. Boring and unmemorable. - 3x Bhutta ($5.00) - roasted anything is good. Roasted corn is the best. The lime with salt and chili powder was tantalizing. - Seekh kebab ($10.00) - ground pork and blend of spices. - Parsi prawns ($14.00) - prawns in coconut curry with cumin and cilantro. - Boti kebab ($12.00) - lamb marinated in yogurt, spices and served with mint raita. - Chicken rezala ($15.00) - white curry with whole aromatic spices, yogurt, cashew, poppy seed and saffron. - Doi begun ($11.00) - eggplant with yogurt, tomato and mustard oil. - Bison biryani ($35.00) - basmati rice, potatoes, currants and served with raita. The presentation is unique as it's served in the traditional 'sum' style. Interestingly, they've changed it on their menu and it's now beef short rib ($30.00). - Paturi ($15.00) - tandoor roasted fish. Apparently, it's straight from India. It came whole with bones and all included. Lightly fried but they overcooked it and it was devastatingly bland. Don't come here for the food. The portions are small and not worth the price point. For a drink or date, the bar and outdoor patio are perfect.

Yelp
One of the best Indian meals of my life. Drinks were fabulous and the rotating slushies are worth it alone.

Yelp
This is a fantastic spot so I'm not sure how/why the ratings are low here on Yelp. The food is on point and the decor is swanky. The location is great as it's right on 17th Ave and there's plenty of street parking available in the area. I enjoyed my cocktail here and the Kati rolls are amazing. The chicken one was really spicy while the paneer one was milder. We really enjoyed our meal here and would recommend this spot to anyone visiting Calgary looking for a great meal.

Yelp
I'd probably give Calcutta a 3.5 if I could give half stars on Yelp but since you can't I decided to round up because it seems more deserving of a 4 than a 3. I visited with a group a friends so I got to try a few of their dishes. The bright spots were the Tandoori Spiced Chicken Kati Rolls and the Chilli Chicken. The Pork Vindaloo was pretty good and the Cauliflower was a hit at the table even though it wasn't my favorite dish. I wasn't really a fan of the Lamb Keema Kati Roll, I figured I'd prefer this to the chicken but not even close. The flavour just wasn't there. The service was friendly and attentive. I'll be back to try some more dishes and eat some more of those delicious Tandoori Spiced Chicken Kati Rolls.

Yelp
The 6 of us tried the Tasting Menu ! It was very filling (had leftovers!) and $42 so I would recommend either taking leftovers home or if you're on a student budget like me, take a friend and get some menu items and share :) Because it was the 6 of us, we got to try many curries! Appies: Chips and Curry (SO GOOD!) Keema Chop (not really tasty on it's own.. must eat with sauce) Paneer and Honey (interesting seasoning and quite good) Kachumber Salad (quite tangy, it was fine) Papri Chaat (can't go wrong with this dish, but this didn't do it for me) Main: House Dal (could've gone without it) Goan Prawn Vindaloo (great! but not spicy enough for this Indian gal!) Cauliflower (surprisingly really good) Butter Chicken Masala (as butter chicken is.. but better than average) Chole (could've gone without it) Shahi Paneer (loved the gravy!) Desert: Mango Payesh (could be a little less sweet but quite good. I think they were going for payasam from South India) Drinks: forget what we got, but the drinks were SO GOOD. don't miss out on the specialty cocktails! RECOMMENDATION: get the tasting menu if you're with a huge group and if you're picking up your own bills so you can taste all the curries! But if it's a small family or date night, I would recommend getting cocktails, chips and curry, paneer and honey, cauliflower, butter chicken/prawn vindaloo and the shahi paneer! If I was to go back a second time I would probably choose something out of this list and go for a dish I haven't tried

Yelp
Came into town for the weekend and simply walked into the restaurant - lured in by the smell. I sat at the bar and got to watch the gorgeous (and delicious) cocktails being made. The staff was helpful in pointing me to a vegetarian option within their tasting menu - and it was delicious!!!

Yelp
This was a very enjoyable experience. The food is wonderful, all tasty, warm/hot (in spices), tender and flavourful. A good selection and the portions are very generous. Probably the best dumplings we've had, and the chutney is to die for. The butter chicken is a little different from your normal fare, this had so much flavour and the chicken was tender. Our server, Sheena, was very helpful with our choices of food and beverages. A return visit is in the future.
