Beautiful place to go to university. Good energy and they are building. Will be next level when finished.

This university is on the affordable side and they offer so many fields of study that other nearby universities don't offer. It is closer to the ocean and it's bustling with life. However, the recent politics of this school were not good. The university raised the tuition to construct a nicer area (that didn't need renovation), rather than use that money to improve and expand programs, or improve student life (Air conditioning for the Art building for example). The restaurants before 2020 were filled with people and all kinds of food you can buy. Now, it's deserted because they closed all of the restaurants. Some of the dorm rooms are poorly managed at times, based on what some people tell me. Before all of that, I came to this university during high school, and I knew I wanted to go here, but I feel like it's becoming more of a shell of itself. Maybe I am being dramatic. They also didn't let graduates walk after the COVID pandemic. Despite everything being in person, they didn't let graduates walk in attempts to save money. I don't know if that part was resolved. The professors were great and I miss them. Despite the buildings having an overall theme with style, some of the architecture is unique in their own. I love the psychology building.

It's far more expensive now then when I attended but still great value, great faculty and beautiful campus. Population density of Long Beach is also much greater these days thanks to housing incentives and you will see homeless people lighting it up broad daylight in the immediate areas around campus sometimes but also more taco street vendors. There's used to be a guy is trying to sell you speakers in the parking lot out of a van, he was trying so hard.

Beautiful college campus in the heart of Long Beach. The campus classroom buildings all have different characteristics from those that are modern to those that still have vintage aesthetic qualities to them. The campus is packed with students but the area and space is vast enough to feel comfortable while walking to and from classes. Everyone looks focused and ready to learn! There are many food options situated all across campus and the cafeteria I ate at had ample space for all the students to sit and relax in between classes.

I have been here, and it is very big. I love the shark lab and the astronomy night and the basketball game at the pyramid. It is so cool to be there. 😍🤩❤️

My son did his MS here for two years. We couldn't see his university when he was studying and on his convocation in 2020 because of covid. So we decided to visit it now. The campus is so vast some say over 200 acres...that my son drove us through the university. Beautiful layout, the Japanese garden and the pyramid are landmarks of the university. As a state university it's very affordable. There are lots of student housing around. There are different sections of university for each branch of learning with huge buildings. The long beach bus service is free for students. According to my son the staff is great and so are the classes. Student recreation center and medical facilities free for students. My son enjoyed learning in this university and we were impressed to see it.....👌🏼👌🏼🙂🙂👍🏻

The best decision of my life is to pursue a Graduate Degree in Computer Science from this University. I feel like it's the best place to study because it opens up to travel more. Trekking and Beach Side both are accessible and super amazing with friends and family.

One of the best places around Los Angeles. I did my masters in Computer Science from the university. It is a very diverse. The campus is excellent. The campus is smoking free and supports economic and green life. Not too many words but its a good place to go to and would recommend.

The fact that I didn't get to walk at graduation absolutely ruined this school for me. I worked extremely hard to get through college and all I wanted to do was hear my name called when I walked across the stage. This was supposed to be one of biggest and most memorable moments of my life but it wasn't. The graduation was depressing and forgettable. I honestly wanted to cry the whole time I was there. The students held several protests about not being able to walk as well, and the school did nothing because they don't care about the students at all. They were just too cheap to add more graduation days so our names could be called. Disgusting.

It's hard to assign a singular rating for a school I attended for my undergrad, with most of it being severely affected by the covid-19 pandemic. Choosing a college is a difficult decision, since there are so many factors to consider. My main advice: choose a college based on whether or not that college has a reputable or opportunistic program for your desired major. Some schools are better than others when it comes to certain majors. In this case, CSULB is a fantastic school for nursing, as it is ranked the highest in the state for nursing schools (based on NCLEX pass rates). My experience at CSULB as a nursing student was tough, but I was well prepared for the work force. Parking: Like most universities, parking sucks, especially at peak times. Since most people at this school commute, that makes it harder. If you go early or late, you should be fine. Safety: Can I say that sketchy things never happen on campus? No. There have been reports of items being stolen from care. There was also an active shooting threat that was later proven to be false. Overall, the campus is safe and I've never had any issues. Just like at any university, there are things you can do to be more cautious (like always walk with a friend, be aware of your surroundings, ect. You can look up crime reports from each university's police department. Campus Life: Most people who go here are nice people (except pre-nursing students, lol). You'll find mostly hardworking, first generation college students. But most people commute, so if you want to engage with campus life more, you'll need to put in the work. Campus Resources: Amenities like the gym are great and well-kept, while other buildings need some extra work. The Student Health Center is a wonderful facility with great staff and offers a lot of discounted or free services. There are also many helpful educational programs like Supplemental Instruction and tutoring that are free for students. Professors: Hit or miss, honestly. Some professors are genuine, others are simply not. Ask around or use RateMyProfessor when choosing GE classes with certain professors. Surrounding Area: Mostly neighborhoods are in the immediate surrounding area. Not a whole lot to do unless you venture into Downtown Long Beach, but other than that there's the beach and 2nd and PCH nearby. Overall: CSULB is a great bang for your buck. Tuition is affordable, but CSULB offers high quality programs depending on the major. There are downsides to every college, but college is what you make of it. I don't regret choosing CSULB for nursing at all.

I like the school the way it looks and it's at least clean.Some guys are nice to me and some are idiots. The only thing is the people there especially (some not all) the young men there or should I say ( boys ) are not too nice and they are rude even with a girl who looks like a model. Some (not all) don't treat women with respect enough. I went into an elevator yesterday and then 2 young men got in and I asked one of them what floor they want and one of them completely straight up ignored me and I was like "Hello Hello Wake UP !!! " Then the other guy looked at him like aren't you going to answer her dummy? ". I bet you that other guy told him something when I left the elevator. I stood in front of that same guy that ignored me completely and I left when it was time for me to go. Some guys (not all) think they are too great and it looks like they are always wanting the rich women with money. Plus they don't know how to talk with women like me. I needed help from a classmate, I met up with him and then later on he acted like he had no idea that he was supposed to guide me to the kinesiology building and instead went with their so called guy friend. I told him I'm gonna be alone do you mind if I join you but it looked like he didn't want me to so I kind of got the idea and I'm like ok you must like men then. I see how it is bye. He left me out in the cold like that. How dare he, I'm a woman and he treat me like that.I was treated with disrespect from men and I'm a religious woman and they don't know how to value this kind of woman. Most men in here don't care about women they expect something in return of you if you ask for simple help. They want you to be their girlfriend, let them touch you, or want you to accept them like if you are with them so they can brag to their friends and act all great so that you can get the help you need from them. I said no and their whole true colors came out. They start telling me I just want stuff and not care about them.That's not a man !!! That's not true and they know it. Those kind of guys want something in return and not be a gentlemen. Those kind of guys are idiots !! I understand now why some girls are mean to some guys now because they are really immature, monster, demons and dirty beasts and those kind of guys think women are trash when they are themselves from the beginning. Like for me I don't have any help from anyone. Almost my whole family is gone and have no siblings whatsoever and no one really can guide me like the rest of these people at school. Most people I know at the school do have siblings I don't. Put yourself in my shoes and you will see what it's like. Women out there Don't believe these kind of men that easy!! They think we can fall for them easy and think were dumb enough not to notice. Tighten yourselves ladies value yourselves and don't even fall for little things they do fall for the guys that you know you 100 percent will like and most importantly be with a guy who loves you 100 percent , respects you, defends you, gives the face for you not 89 percent. I was taught principles and values . I don't know about how requesting a class to exist in campus but I would want to start a class teaching values and principles to students so they that they know how to communicate and treat people especially women with respect. I also would like to mention the staff in some places not all of them are bad .There is some helpful staff there too and really nice ones too.They helped me get my classes and I appreciate it but watch out for the other people in staff they aren't friendly. The parking is ridiculously expensive and I don't like the fact that since we are students there we should have priority to get some free stuff and discounts from the beach shops because students are going to pay out of their pocket lots of thousands of dollars later on after they graduate from this university. The stuff there is way too expensive when our economy is in the downfall right now. Does the university care ? I

I had a really negative experience with CSULB's College of Professional and Continuing Development. I hadn't realized that I was enrolled in a class, and they charged me for it even though I never attended class, turned in assignments, communicated with the teacher, etc. When I tried to explain that I hadn't known that I was enrolled, I was met with a flat out refusal to hear my side of the story, as well as a notice in the mail that my $950 bill was being sent to collections. I felt really ignored and dismissed and I can only assume that my experience reflects on how the school treats it students in general. It also makes me wonder about the teachers at CSULB. I would have expected a teacher to reach out to an apparent new student who wasn't attending class or participating at all, but that didn't happen, which makes me question how much the teachers care about their students at this school.

CSULB does not have enough parking for all of the students and paying their huge parking fee does not guarantee you'll get a space. Good luck getting to class on time. Terrible. Something to consider when choosing a university.

Like many of the other comments say, of course, I have received very rude customer service. The people that work here do not care about the students. they seem to only care about their own egos. I really hope this location closes permanently.

Felt a bit like a degree factory, mind you I'm an older student that returned to higher education after years. A lot of the professors were younger than me but still seemed really knowledgeable. Didn't finish as I've run into financial problems. All in all I will try again in a few years but this time at a UC, no disrespect to CSULB they're trying their best.

Attended the nurse practitioner program and hated it. The director, who also teaches some classes, is one of the most incompetent, narcissistic, selfish, unorganized, childish, and careless individuals I have ever met. There's not much quality that comes from his class's. He hardly teaches and mostly talks about himself. He constantly forgets to email or follow up on important documents to facilitate your transition to becoming a nurse practitioner that it's horrifying. But, the worst part about him is how unethical he is. A classmate had lost their family member in the middle of the course. They notified him and he call the same day to ask details about the death; thus, placing them in an instantly uncomfortable situation. Remember that this was on the SAME DAY on finding out what happened. He didn't excuse then from some live reviews that he wrongly stated were mandatory. I have never met anyone who handled the loss of a loved one so poorly. It is worse by the fact of his academic standing in this school. The instructor/director is Cleddhy Arellano.

Ok first off I am biased due to this being my Alma Mater I loved going here for college. I had many great times here. Lots have definitely changed since I attended here first the Pyramid was just about almost finished when I graduated. Secondly there was not one parking structure among the whole campus they were all wide open parking lots. I have yet to see the campus now but will another time. I mainly came here to bring my mom for her first vaccination shot. The process was fast and easy and well organized. It's all done by Kaiser. We were in and out in no time.

Don't ever apply to this bullsh*t cybersecurity program. They always talk about how they're the highest this and that and claim that cybersecurity a lot of jobs yet they don't even give a crap about their students. Literally saying jobs are given out every day and so many students go JOBLESS. cybersecurity requires people with years of experience. I'm so passed that they overcharge for this BULLSH*T and I've gone the effort to tell everyone I know NOT to sign up for this school's cybersecurity program. This is THE WORST CYBERSECURITY PROGRAM OF A SCHOOL. THEY ALWAYS HAVE THE WORKERS CHANGING THEIR NUMBERS ALWAYS UNAVAILABLE, INSTRUCTORS CONSTANTLY RUSH THE SESSION. THEY DON'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT ANYONE. NEVER RECOMMENDING THIS DUMB PROGRAM TO ANYONE

Best bang for your buck. Sure you could pay more for your education and you might leave with better friendships, a more powerful network (like at USC), or an email address for life but I bet that dollar for dollar you get more at CSULB.

This place is a disgrace to education, educators and the word "education". From top to bottom, it is a horrible, horrible student experience. No one cares, no one cares about you, the place operates in the most inefficient, incompetent manner I have ever seen any organization operate in in the history of man and the senior level management/administrators DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. They are there, collecting a state issued paycheck, going home without care or credence to single student on that campus. It's actually pretty sad that there are students there, wasting their hard earned money trying to get an "education" when not a single person employed by CSULB cares about you. Waste of time. Waste of money. One of the worst run organizations I have ever seen.

Dear CSULB, I remember I have visited you before, and all I really have to say is, I love you very much. You are such a very beautiful university I've ever seen in my entire life, and you are the best university EVER!!!!! BTW equally important, I want to become a manufacturing inventor with a business major. I want to invent a time machine and not only travel through time (especially to the past), but also stay remaining completely young forever (like in our teen/young adult ages) and never grow old. I did some research on Google that inventors usually study business classes. I also wish to invent a pill that'll make young people like me stay young forever and ever and ever and also become immortal and live forever, even make our parents and family members live forever. A time machine seriously needs to be invented and even a pill that'll make young people stay young forever and also become immortal and live forever, even make parents and family members live forever. I do not want to get old and die. I want to stay young forever and ever and ever with these reasons stated above. So yeah, since I want to become a manufacturing inventor with a business major, that's why I have my sights of working at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena in the near future. Even one of the students from one of my business classes (human resources management) at college mentioned that to me. This is good due to affordability. But ok the school itself is really huge and it's very difficult to make friends. Beware unless you are a business or engineering major they won't help you find a job when you graduate. Outcomes aren't really posted so you have to do research. Some of the depts lie about job prospects to keep students in seats.

Go Beach!!! This is a Beautiful Campus. I missed San Diego (my Home) though. Lots of sketchy areas in LB...& nice areas. You'll be able to have a Free bus pass in the LB area, due to being a student at CSULB.. *I loved how they had Poki place in the Cafeteria area. You can Exercise in the gym, until midnight. Parking wasn't so bad for me. You just have to get there early. Or, pay the parking meter ;) when you're out of Time. Chemistry class was Epic, with full-on Explosive Pyro shows that reached the Top of a High rise ceiling! Awee-Some!!! *There is an Instructor, Miss Terrell, she is well respected and Excellent in her skills/knowledge. But, I don't think she should be Teaching.. as she didn't have much Empathy, Patience or Understanding when it came to Struggling students. * Teachers should Encourage & be a Positive Influence. *Her attitude and approach was really Unprofessional & Unkind towards me. Also, BEWARE*** of Cults, (religious cults) on Campus. They will be Looking for people on Orientation Day.... Or whenever you're on Campus. Please Beware and do your Research. As, they will also be there on Club day. God Bless you. This is a warning to Beware. Other than that, it's a Great School & Campus.

Came here to get the Covid 19 Vaccination shot here in the parking structure,I went to Kaiser web site on a Friday night around 11pm fill out the forms on line questions and answers pick a date and time that was it. On line the stated they they only had Moderna and Pfizer Vaccination.Parking lot staff handed me another form to fill out too, you get the first line 10 mins. they ask you are you here for the first shot or the second shot or is this your first time...then low and behold they ask me which one do I want to get, they had all three vaccinations, then off to the second line 10 mins. to check in ID card and Kaiser card, now off to the third line 15.mins. to get it the nurse ask me a few questions in and out less then 1 min. the last stop was the observation 15 mins. where you relax while being monitor. Everything ran so smoothly plus all of the the staff i can in contact with were super nice and friendly.

I don't recall ever being on the Cal State Long Beach campus before last weekend. We'd gone to visit their Japanese Garden, located in a section of the university near their iconic Pyramid sports arena. It's hard to miss in the background, as we saw from the parking lot of the garden. Speaking of parking, either a permit is required, or else visitors must use a pay station for hourly rates. You enter your license plate into the machine and don't have to go back and put the receipt in the car. School is out for the summer, but parking fees remain! After touring the garden, Dear Hubby wanted to see the Pyramid up closer, so he figured out how to drive over there. There was construction in various parking lots on the way, but we arrived near the entrance. The blue glass of the structure is the color of a summer sky, and blends into the background. Still, it's a striking design for a sports venue. We didn't spend a lot of time checking out the rest of the campus to see about other architectural elements. High marks to the school's planners to include such unique features as the Pyramid and Japanese Garden for the public to enjoy, as well as the students and staff.

So I just came here for my brother's graduation lol. Anyway, the campus is gorgeous and very open. Lots of greenery and cool stuff like vending machines with hamburgers and burritos in it. Staff was pretty nice and the place was very wheelchair friendly. The graduation ceremony was nicer than UCI's for sure. They even had free food. I shoulda gone here instead. More parking than UCI too. Anyway, would totally recommend. The gowns are nicer too. Commencement speech was short and sweet. Yay class of 2017.

I CHERISH MY 5 YEARS AT CSULB! Graduated from The Beach in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in Journalism & Mass Communications, and a minor in Entrepreneurship. There are a lot of great thing about this college, and of course a couple cons, but they definitely do not outweigh the good. From my experience, my favorite classes to take were media design (with Danny Paskin - arguably the best professor), nonverbal communications, and intro theatre. The Facebook graduation year groups were where I met some good friends & also at the film club - was super happy to have experienced Campus Movie Fest! Cons: Stay away from the fraternities/sororities, unless you're into that. But from my experience they are super close-minded & judgmental, and there were multiple sexual assault issues during my 5-years there. The parking situation was BAD my last year & assume it's gotten worse (had to park on the street curbs some weeks because there just wasn't enough parking available, which sucks because you pay so much for a semester pass). Get used to walking A LOT, almost all parking is a good 20-30 minutes if you're not speed walking. And last con - I hope they stop increasing tuition. Pros Continued: The campus is beautiful and is highly "commuter-friendly" (lots of places to sit and work on homework or hang out in between long breaks). My personal favorite place to go was the USU for some billiards with friends after some lunch. I also loved that tutoring and advisors were always available to help make me when I needed it & wanted to make sure I was prepared to graduate on time. The overall community is diverse & welcoming. Most of the staff seem to care and are there to genuinely help you if you ask. Lots of great food options + A BAR & LIVE MUSIC! I love my school & love meeting other alums in the real world. I wouldn't have done anything different (besides start paying off my student loan debt sooner lol)

My tip is my review. TL;DR 5 Stars EMT education is a stepping stone into a career in medicine. CSULB's EMT program was a great discovery! Taught by professionals w/experience. Success in the program comes from class participation in lectures and hands-on skills training. It's an accelerated course not your typical class. Do not be afraid to make mistakes! The instructors want the students to succeed, and are very willing to help. I suggest experiencing both the emergency room & ambulance ride-along. Loved it. SYOY

I received my Master's from CSULB in 2018 and have returned to complete my teaching credential. There are things I love about my school and there are things that I'm not so thrilled with... Pro: I believe the campus is legitimately beautiful. It's spacious, green, and gets the most wonderful beach breezes. One of my favorite things to do is take a walk around campus on Saturday when there are only a few students around. Con: The campus is critically overcrowded during the week. Think you'll find a parking space in time for your class? Think again. There are nowhere near enough parking spaces for the number of people who attend the University. To me, that's really irresponsible considering almost every person I've met in my classes commutes from other cities. I'm lucky because I live close to campus and can hop on a shuttle. Most people can't. Pro: You will receive an excellent, evidenced-based education from experienced instructors. CSULB holds both its students and its instructors to high standards. Employers know this, so your degree won't diminish in value. Con: Tuition continues to increase while administrators spend money on unnecessary vanity projects, like "student success centers". These centers are really just glorified lobbies with USB ports and offices for high-paid staff members. Public colleges should limit such projects to keep costs as low as possible for students, thereby making education accessible to everyone.

I went to csulb for a college preparatory program when I was in high school through upward bound. I actually lived down the street my entire life. Constantly passing through and dorming there made me apply however I did not get accepted. They are strict on testing scores and grades from high school. I got accepted into csudh and csula and I wish I could had went to csula due to their quarter system which classes get done faster. DH and LB don't have that quarter system. It's best to speed through college. Unless you want to take your time. Overall csulb is for ppl who have money to spend or a scholarship or don't mind loans. Otherwise, there's a lot of parking but get there early if you can, be ready to walk the campus it's big but good for working out and there's a lot to do there. College is dull and unmotivating at csu's in 2021. They try to keep the spirit up but if the college doesn't have team spirit all around the campus it's just a commuter school. Degrees are a hit and miss. It depends how you use it to your advantage and it does mean you are disciplined enough to take on education and take it serious. Overall csulb gets 4 stars.

June 2, 2018 The University's Department of Biological Sciences Amorphophallus titanum (giant misshapen phallus) is a more acurate name for "Phil" who's burgundy spathe magnificently bloomed this morning. Also known as Titan Arum, the species is the world's largest flower. Phil's spadix reached a magnificent 68 plus inches. Lisa and Brian, the proud botanical curators were on hand to answer questions and obliged happily to facilitate family selfies with Phil, rising to occasion the in the background. Unfortunately, bearing no resemblance to Audrey II, Phil is not a people eating plant. Thus the multitude of children run amuck were spared. Most of them felt obliged to hold their noses, prompted by Phil's "stinky" reputation. It has a Taco Bell. Other PLUSES to my experience, here for my BA and 2 teaching credentials (2000-2007): Arnold Schwarzenegger signed my diploma. No, he didn't write "It's not a tumor" or "we need to get to the choppa" or "arrrrgaaaaaagrh" like I would have wanted. It was a stamp, but still. Even though his disdain of The Oppressor made him sound like the Martin Lawrence character from Boomerang, I had the privilege of having Dr. Karenga, the creator of Kwanzaa, for Ethnic Experience. Dr. Nancy Briggs, who is among the world's leaders in orangutan research, was my Storytelling and Childrens Lit teacher. Merrie Martino was excellent for both Art classes I took: she put our work in a gallery, and introduced me to Bob Baker Marionettes, per a field trip. Langton helped me find my voice in English classes. And I had some crazy guy for Chemistry, who would sing Weird Al type parodies of songs and do experiments in lecture halls, one of which required attention from the fire department. Tartre was maddening for Math, but she taught me the coolest thing I had learned there: that .999 repeating is absolutely and entirely equal to one. It took her a whole class period to convince me, and she doesn't lose her patience. She asked my permission to show my test worksheet to students because they looked like, in her words, "a nightmare that Donald Duck would have in Mathemagic Land". Plus, two good food courts, a bowling alley, a great Japanese garden, lots of room for frisbee, the Carpenter Theater venue, and you'll get your steps in, for sure. Best of all, it's in my favorite city and hometown Long Beach. Snoop says hi. NEGATIVES: Policies changed midterm (I took a harder course path to avoid taking the CSET but had to take it anyway). Deadlines were sneaky (I didn't know I had to "file" to graduate). And I couldn't understand a thing my Linguistic teacher said, which is like having Stephen Hawking for Dance. At least the Holocaust-denying, anti-semitic Child Psych professor I had retired in 2014. (Shout out to Laura V, Jeremy S, Joe C, Cheyenne C, Jen G, Ashley G, and Denise B, my CSULB brothers and sisters for life) Alumni include Spielberg, Bradley from Sublime, Chris Carter (X-Files creator), Angels pitcher Jared Weaver, Gold medalist Misty May Trainor, legendary Stan Winston (SFX), Karen Carpenter, and Steve Martin. Current faculty includes the dude who played Wyatt from "Weird Science". He's hard to recognize without the bra on his head.

I've been going to CSULB for 6 years now (almost done with my MA woo!). It's a gorgeous campus with great amenities. The food options are great, healthy and junky depending on what you're feeling. The staff and faculty have always been friendly to me and people are very willing to lend a hand and help you out. Upper campus has sort of become the speaking platform for anyone who decides to come to the campus and give their spiel on political (or religious) topics. It's distracting but the school can't do much about it as long as people aren't bothering any of the students on a physical level. I typically ignore those people and resume my day. The classrooms are great. The LA buildings have been completely redone and are updated. The library is state-of-the-art and all the staff at the library are very helpful and friendly. Parking is pretty horrendous. But when you go to one of the top commuter campuses in Southern California it's just par for the course I suppose. Just make sure you leave early if you're worried about finding parking and you should be all right. The shuttles are efficient for the most part as well.

I am in the process of applying to Ed D (Doctorate in Education) programs. I have written to several colleges with any questions I have and so far, Kimberley Word from CSU LB is the one of the most helpful service specialist I have come across. She is the reason this school has become my favorite to apply to. The faculty and students have been forthcoming and welcoming as well. If I am spending my time and money, I would rather study at an inclusive institution such as Long Beach!

We go here every year because we have our Nikkei Games held inside the Pyramid. A great venue for our tournament. The games are actually three martial arts doing tournaments at the same time. There is kendo, karate, and judo so it's a martial artist's dream day. The place is very large so there is enough room for all the arts. I go because of the kendo but it is nice to watch the other arts as well.

A pristine campus without excessive bells and whistles, which keeps it affordable! I've always enjoyed every experience on campus. I've especially appreciated the support I've gotten throughout my tenure. If you're just curious to get into classes, they've got open university which allows non students to enroll. Anderson D. has been phenomenal in assisting me and other students and potential students through the process. I've also really appreciated the transparency I've received from my Department Dean Bron P. as I was considering returning to school. Jamie W. in the Communication department has been of utmost influence since taking one of her courses. Overall an amazing campus! I've never felt out of place even if classes aren't as culturally diverse as I'd hoped. They offer a solid education with an affordable tuition.

I was surprised how cool a campus this is. When I came here for grad school, I expected it to be something like a community college, but I believe this school is good enough to be a UC. Campus itself is large if you're walking everywhere, but if you take away the parking and dorms and sport fields, this school's actually pretty small. It's hard to get lost at this school because the map is straightforward and students/faculty are nice! The campus atmosphere FEELS like a college campus, and the restaurants and facilities are pretty awesome. The University Student Union has a gaming center with bowling, pool, TV, arcade games, etc. The food selection and bank ATM's available on campus are diverse. There's a Carl's Jr, Starbucks (2), El Pollo Loco, Quizzno's, Subway, Sbarro, Yogurt Creations, etc. There's also a pub called Nugget Grill. As for ATM's there's Bank of America, Wells Fargo (with a branch on campus), and Chase! I never tried the buses, but I hear they're convenient too! The student store and library are big, and there's a Horn Center for computers and relaxation. The buildings here are relatively new and there's also a Japanese garden if you want to relax after a long day in classes. My only issue is that it's a commuter school (mostly comprised of parking lots) and it's too crowded. I appreciate the diversity but I have to walk through waves of people whenever I'm on campus during the day! In addition, it doesn't feel like a college community because people drive in and out from far away; I definitely appreciated a close college community when I was an undergrad. But then again, it doesn't affect me now because I'm one of those commuters that are here just for night-time grad classes, haha! The campus is very safe at night; there's always students around even at 10pm because my classes are located near the gym, and campus officers are always on call if you need an escort. Overall, this is a good campus to hang around at any time, because there's lots of people and lots of things to do. I'm a bit envious I'm not an undergrad but if I were, I would totally take advantage of all this campus has to offer. If you don't want to hang around campus, Long Beach itself is very touristy; it's near Seal Beach, Aquarium of the Pacific, Rainbow Harbor, etc etc. but I'm not your tour guide, so find out for yourself :P However, I did train to be a campus tour guide at one point, and random fact: the pyramid on campus is one of three pyramids in the USA and this is the only blue one. AND, Steven Spielberg graduated from CSULB in 2002. So get famous first, THEN graduate. That's how we should all do it!

I am actually an alum at California State University of Long Beach and whenever I go home to visit, I always have to go to CSULB. I am currently a graduate student at UC Santa Cruz. I definetely miss the university and I definetely considered it home. I can definetely write a good review since I go to another university and I know what I miss and can appreciate it more. I have a degree in Computer Engineering so I can do a review of the department. . I went to school there for 6 years. The only thing I probably did not like was studying abroad part in Montreal, Canada. Unfortunately, I was not warned that I would be going to a hostile university and well did not have a good experience that I would have hoped, but then it made me much stronger. But anyways I will not go an a rant with that. Study abroad office had a bunch of liars. One thing I get annoyed at is the fee I had to pay as an alumni $49 gift. The funny thing is I can check out books and videos using my card, but only have access to the internet for only one hour which totally sucks. Oh yes and then the headache of the alumni association calling me all the time and asking me for money and get it all the time in the mail. Okay overall, I like the conviences of CSULB such as the student union center. They have a bowling alley, arcade center with some good games. They have a bunch of food we are acustomed to such as Carl Jrs, El Pollo Loco, Subway, Starbucks, Panada express. Then we have the Nugget, a place to chill and have a drink and a place to relax and watch sports. like the convience stores are open late until 7:30pm and the beach hut closes around 10:00pm so it encourages you to study late. There are also plenty of vending machines as well full of energy drinks and Coke products. As for the Computer Engineering department, the professors were nice and professional for the most part. Yeah you had some bad ones, but you can go to ratemyprofessors.com in order to find out who are the bad and good ones. They helped me get into a grad school with a graduate assistantship, a summer internship and well knew how to motivate me. They were usually hands on and helpful and wanted to know you by first name basis. The two VLSI courses helped seal my fate in which advisor I got. They got new computer equipment, but did not get the chance to use it. . The library looks really nice and glad they did a makeover on it. Even though during finals week it is busy, there are plenty of tables and couches for me to sleep on hehehehe. Plenty of videos for you to watch and they have an entertainment center. Oh one complaint was not all the electrical jacks work. Yeah they got a starbucks now =) and it is a cash cow, but I still go to the beach hut sometimes. I like the Japanese gardens and the computer center. They are two places were I go out and chill out as well. The walk up campus is not bad. Could be worst like Santa Cruz it is more hilly, but I like the exercise =)

Note: Yelp employees, I don't hold it against you that you are probably not the most astute individuals, however; the photos I have posted are from the CSU system which I would obviously have access to if I were there. So before you illegitimately claim that I am not a part of the campus, try to use some deductive reasoning with that first. The California State University Long Beach campus is nice. I personally do not find any issues with parking, although I get here early enough and use their garages. If you are looking for "free" parking then that's a different story, I've read several posts that complain about paying for parking. These same people probably are complaining not getting the following free as well: tuition, the newest iPhone, a new BMW/Mercedes/Porsche, etc...it's a University and there are costs to run it. Deal with it and stop complaining. The amenities are within reasonable condition. Some buildings like the Student Wellness Center and College of Natural Science are new buildings which have been added recently. The CSU system (not CSULB, but entire CSU system) loses money every single year to the amount of $167.7 million. Even with the most recent tuition increase which brings in around $77.5 million, the system as a whole is still upside down. The budget for all 23 CSU campuses is similar to the 9 UC campuses, so financially, the money gets spread EXTREMELY thin.. The buildings and facilities are old which is expected given it was established in 1949. At some point whenever there is funding, building renovations should be done. Thank goodness for that and getting the real issues down. tl;DR Amenities are OK, but CSU is upside down financially so within reason for the low tuition (fair enough), students complain generally about trivial things, and the University despite being an educational system generally tries to turn basic issues (gender bathrooms etc), instead of trying to actually hold more than just 2 meager job fairs, bc who needs jobs when you have gender neutral bathrooms. https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=8823 Faculty use the term "tenure" as some form of diplomatic immunity to not follow University policy. Apparently a criminal background check isn't part of the hiring process. There are 2 faculty members James Binnall teaches in criminology. He served a 4-year prison sentence for killing one person and injuring another while driving drunk. He obtained his law degree at State expense while incarcerated. Maulana Karenga chairs the Africana department and served time for raping and torturing two women according to another yelp review which I looked into and is 100% true.

My one regret is going to Long Beach State. Most professors do not have students best interest and rush through the semester, so their job can be done. Additionally, this schools registration process is one of the worst processes I have ever seen. Not one semester have I gotten the classes I needed. Lastly, graduating from here is not as respected as people think. Especially for specific majors, this school has done nothing to foster connections and networking opportunities to big companies. The job fairs are literally a joke and very scammy. Stay away from CSULB at all costs.

Clearly this school has issues dealing with Making sure students have access to equipment in their film and electronic arts department. They also have issues doing true investigation into staff misconduct. In fall 2017 a faculty member was allowed to attempt to retaliate against me. Instead of actively investigating they have me drop the course and substitute the requirement. I was fine with this at the time but after my last two semesters, I clearly should have pushed the issue more. In the spring of 2021 the Film and Electronic Arts Department (FEA) chair is informed of several issues with a lecturer in the department. Instead of going to the proper channels as to finding information on Copyright Law and the fair use clause, she think it is appropriate to go to the Liberian for their insight instead of the legal department. Further the department head at this meeting made excuses that the lecturer was okay to test on things that where not mentioned in the syllabus. When concerns were brought up that an assignment lead to someone in my household being triggered because the lecturer failed to critically think that a student mentioning that a trigger warning was of concern. The lecturers response was just fast forward through those parts. Time stamps would have been way more appropriate. Unrealistic, expectations were also mentioned when the lecturer thought 3 hours to complete 4 paragraph length definitions, 2, 200 word essays, and one 800 word essay. All of things on top of the entire course was out of 100 points with seven essays and a research project. No room for error. Clearly the department head did not care to really investigate the issue. Which leads into the Fall of 2021. I was in my last semester at CSULB. The FEA department failed to provide equipment to the FEA 360 course. I went through the Dean of Students, a college of the Arts interim Associate Dean, and the Ombuds office to try to get these issues fixed for future classes. In my meeting with the dean the chair again made excuses for every last concern. Clearly failing to do an investigation into the complaints which after dealing with President Jane Conoley's chief of staff is acceptable. When an issue that was brought up to the Governor of California office is requesting a response. The response should be well investigated but instead to cover up wrong doing by the school the investigation ended when the professor of the course supposedly remembered something that is unfortunately inaccurate. The investigation never talked to me to find the truth between different perceptions of the story. The tactics of the investigation are suspect especially since the concern dealt with federal funding and state funding. On top of student tuition fees that are supposed to cover the cost of equipment that per the FEA 360 syllabus is supposed to be provided to the students. In my reports it clearly shows that the department ignored e-mails requesting equipment. The second exhibit the fake investigation used was dated February 3rd, 2022 claiming that I should have had all the procedures. Well since I only returned to school for mostly online classes this document was not readily available to students. Also if a real investigation into the issues was done, it would show that the request for equipment went out before September 29, 2021. The dates listed for filming were October 4, 6, 11, and 13th. Which if the investigation was serious then they would have noted that three of those dates were before I was ever given said documentation. The updated document that was sent for this semester was sent on October 11, 2021 and the document was dated October 7, 2021. My records also show I started the process of complaining to the Dean of Students on October 15. Which mean only four days had passed since I received the documentation. Then the school sends issues that really should be formal to the informal Ombuds office to try and resolve the issue. Clearly poor investigation skills are accepted by the administration and they are okay misusing state and federal funding. Also they are okay with charging students tuition without given access to required materials. If you want a major hassle with no support to students then this is the school for you. If you want a decent education go somewhere else!

I took CSULB EMT class and I had a WONDERFUL experience! I passed the NREMT my first try thanks to the amazing quality of educators. You get to do ride alongs in the 911 system, and they are not all about the money like other EMT schools. If you put in the work there is no way you will fail the course because the instructors will work with you. Instructors are AMAZING! I highly recommend CSULB EMT school.

I loved being student there. Really great university in LB. the entire CSU school system is awesome, but this University is the crown jewel. The campus is nice and is located in an awesome community. No matter what you like or are into, you will find it in Long Beach. Best city ever.

Their financial aid office is horrible. They did not help my son at all. He did not qualify for financial aid and they did not tell him it was because he completed his FAFSA incorrectly . They get millions in grants to give out to people they like. It is not a fair process at all. Our tax payer dollars going to pay these good for nothing employees.

I am a transfer student from Sacramento city college. I moved here from Sacramento and I am so happy that I am attending the school. Maybe I am biased because this is only my third week of school coming up but I really enjoy the campus, the people, and the professors. If I would have anything to nitpick on I would say that some of the buildings are quite old and need to be renovated. Also, some of the older buildings have a nasty smell in the rooms and buildings. Also the older buildings they need to crank up that AC because people are sweating and BO is swarming around these halls and classrooms and I'm about to pass out from it! The parking for students sucks. Anybody who goes to school here and drives to school knows how shitty it is. Especially in the first week of school. It is just hell. Everybody is envious of the parking area for only staff because they are so much closer to the classes and campus. The school is huge! Transferring here I did not expect to be walking so damn much every single day. I have gotten so much darker just from walking around the campus four days a week. They do have buses that drive around the campus all day long to help you get from destinations to destinations. That helps a lot! Funny, because I just figured that out today.

As an General Biology undergrad, I took classes at a few different universities and colleges. Of them, CSULB was by far my favorite. Why? -free snacks on random days and random places -hammocks in the spring -weather is never too hot because it's near the coast -diversity -great professors in the college of natural sciences and mathematics -gym -shuttles -places serving beer on campus -more than enough Greek life and clubs to choose from -near the beach -good weather -the people Parking can be tight and small. But one time, I got back to my car from class and my bumper was bent in. There was a note on my windshield with an apology, a contact name, and number and she ended up paying for the damage that was done. Whereas when I was attending a different school, I got a part of the front grille of my car stolen. It's just a great school with great people. People are happier at the beach. Go beach!

Overcrowded, some obnoxious, overprivileged kids...I am 54 grand in debt... Regretted it... If one has rich parents then this is your place...

I love my school! I am coming back to school after almost ten yrs! But I must say that this semester has been awesome. I was intimidated coming back to a school of youngsters but everyone has welcomed me with open arms. My professors have been great and I am looking forward to coming back next semester! The people at academic advising have helped me get everything in order prior to coming back to ensure I stay on track and what would be best for me as well as the advisors in my major department. Looking forward to finishing my education and preparing for my future!!

Had a wonderful time in the BA program for political science but not such a great time in the Social Science credential program which was mediocre at best. Graduated many years ago and have been teaching 16 years but I will never forget them not allowing me to student teach in a school in Irvine with a District Teacher of the Year. They had something against that particular school because other high schools in Irvine were aok to student teach at. It was bizarre to say the least. I was lucky to be able to test out of the horrendous Capstone class by passing both the SSAT and the PRAXIS. Since then I have heard the program has gotten even less creative and insists its graduates only student teach from certain material, which is tragic. I used Interact simulation curriculum, the old History Alive materials plus other materials when I student taught. There was only one methods class whereas at CSU Fullerton there were three but I found that out too late so I was unable to transfer there. Once I began teaching I attended some really wonderful PD's put on by National Board Certified teachers. I have since added on two credentials, because I recognized that I would have been career opportunities that way. My advice is to be careful around some of the faculty in this program and to advocate for yourself. You may want to investigate other CSU programs and don't look at this as the end of your education. It's just the beginning. Adding on an English credential was the single most important thing I did for my career. In short, BA program was fantastic, credential program was mediocre.

I can hardly express my disappointment in the councling department. My daughter just tried to get help planning the last the last two semesters of her senior year. Because she is a class or two shy of being a senior (Army delayed her) she wanted to incorporate those classes into the last two semesters. Here the problems start to arise. They only had zoom meetings while she was in classes, so it wasn't an option. She took a day off to drive to school. They basically told her she needed a longer appointment to go over planning the rest of her classes. So she explained that she was trying to get all her classes all in one year. Still no help, and then proceeded to tell her that the school's degree planner isn't accurate. So now she is in a position that she will be taking classes she may not need. Wouldn't even help her plan the upcoming semester. Waste of time and money! The frustration of trying to navigate classes is ridiculous!!!!! Why is it so difficult to get help answering the questions needed. My daughter is smart and just trying to be diligent by making sure she is taking the classes that are needed. You are at their mercy if you want a degree, so something to think about if applying to this school.

Liberal Studios Major, Class of 2008 specializing in Elementary School Education. All of the professors, administrators, and counselors in the Education Department are the finest support system on campus. I had a great 5 years. It's a very liberal, highly tolerant campus. When I attended, there was only one transgendered employee working at the library and a male professor pushing gender norms' boundaries (he wore earrings and a skirt and he's not Scottish). Now that society is more accepting of LGBTQ people, there are probably more coming out of the closet. So, if you're offended by LBGTQ people, you're going to be very uncomfortable here. Food on campus is very expensive. Pack your own or swing by the pantry for free food. Rent around here is around USD$1200 for a studio apartment.

This school has some serious racial profiling. I applied here with a 3.1 gpa (I'm white) and my Hispanic friend with a 2.7 to engineering. I got denied but of course he got accepted. We were in the same physics class. I was much more qualified. System is so screwed up. This is proof.

Started off being excited for my child to get in to this school only to feel disappointed in a matter of weeks. My understanding of the role of an advisor is to assist students in making decisions about courses to take, paying special attention to the needs and situation of the students. From my child's experience, the advisor just shows herself up in zoom and tells the student to pick a course and she'll see if there is any vacant seats, without giving any advisements as to the appropriateness of the course. Poor child is a freshman, new to the process, and now developing anxiety over the experience. Additionally, we got trapped with having to pay for housing when the courses my child got enrolled into are all on-line. Prior to applying for housing, we were informed that most of the classes are going to be live on-campus. Although we are not too far from the campus, we still chose to secure a dorm inside the campus to support our child's learning experience by not having to travel to and from the campus everyday. Come enrolment time, the advisor gave her classes that are all on-line. This does not make sense. Money is money and we work hard to earn it. I hope that the school can become sensitive of matters such as this.

This school is so mismanaged and will provide the most frustrating college experience. Problems span from Professors, how the curriculum works, homeless students living in cars, how you have five different systems that are used to check what your class progression is towards graduation and they all have different information. Why???

I love being a student at CSULB!!! A great education for a great price! It's a gorgeous and huge campus with a lot of amenities. There is a movie theater and bowling alley on campus. In addition, The Japanese Garden is a Must See!!! They also have a lot of places to eat on campus and a huge bookstore with a lot of promotional items. Go Beach!!! They also have a lot of events for the students. Halloween is always a lot of fun on campus. The administrative and financial aid staff are also very friendly and helpful. So far, all the teachers have been awesome!!! Parking can be an issue, especially during the weekdays. There is also a lot of construction going on at the campus right now. Sometimes, I have had to park quite far, but there are shuttles on campus to take you where you need to be. This school is also very reasonably priced compared to other Universities.
