How to Visit Napa Valley on a Budget in 2025

"I counted Calistoga Bikeshop among two good rental companies to use for a self-guided bike tour; you can rent bikes for around $45 USD per day, which I recommend as a much cheaper alternative to organized bike tours that run over $100 and don’t include winery tasting fees." - Matthew Kepnes

How do you know a shop is awesome if you don’t have a problem? I picked up an E-bike to do the Oat Hill trail and had an issue with the motor 3mi up the trail, then a flat while I was trying to get back to the shop. I called the shop and Marshall jumped on another e-bike and rode 3mi uphill to swap out my bike and get me moving again. Incredible service that save my ride and my day! I returned my bike after an awesome ride and dropped off a 12-pack for Marshall, Jim & Dave. Those guys made for an awesome day on 2-wheels!

We highly recommend this store for a bike tour experience. Excellent service and guidance throughout all points of interest including the best tips. Thank you for making our journey so pleasant and enjoyable. Diego & David compliments from 🇨🇦

Staying at Solage turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Since no bikes were available on-site (and honestly, the Solage bikes aren’t great), we were “forced” to book with Calistoga Bike Shop — and I’m so glad we did. From the start, Brad and Rob were enthusiastic, welcoming, and clearly passionate about what they do. Their business is extremely customer-focused, and the bikes themselves are A+ quality. My family and friends rented six bikes, and the curated trail routes and recommendations made our day unforgettable. A huge thank-you to Brad (the owner), Rob, and the rest of the friendly and helpful team. If you’re staying in Calistoga and want your family to have a true A+ experience, skip the hotel bikes and rent from Calistoga Bike Shop. Who am I? This is coming from someone who doesn’t hand out 5-star reviews lightly. I’ve traveled to Calistoga more than five times, and I can promise you’ll love their curated bike experience.

Google
I recently bought a new 3-wheel bike and needed some help assembling it . So, we called the Bike shop in Calistoga. A very nice young man came to our house, picked up the bike and two hours later the bike was fully assemble and ready to go. I highly recommend the bike shop downtown. Very happy customers.

Google
I had a one day rental from Calistoga Bikeshop this past weekend. Ahead of my trip Rob contacted me for measurements so the bike fit perfectly. Once fitted with my pedals; the Cervelo was a wonderful bike. The pick up and drop off were seamless as was the communication. This will be my go-to bike shop when I require a rental in the area. Thank you !

Google
Great staff and mechanics here. Always super friendly, and go out of their way to help you make informed decisions. Much prefer this shop over all of the Specialized owned shops in Santa Rosa!

Google
Wife & I have been searching for a specific Specialized size small e-bike for her. Calistoga Bike Shop happened to have just the one in stock. So we took the 1.5 hour drive to have a look. Marshall took the lead on our sales experience, but he and the entire staff did the absolute best job of setting up my wife’s bike along with all of the pink & purple accessories she desired. They literally spent most of Saturday letting us try different options & setups, before dialing & installing everything exactly how she wanted it. No over sell, no pushy sales. They even did a quick tune up on my bike I happen to have along for the ride at no extra cost. Excellent shop, couldn’t recommend more.

Google
I can’t say enough good things about my experience with Calistoga Bike Shop. From start to finish, their professionalism and communication were second to none. I rented a Specialized Tarmac for my ride, and the bike was in pristine condition—tuned perfectly and ready to deliver an exceptional performance. The real standout, however, was Rob. Not only did he make the rental process seamless, but his positive outreach ensured I had everything I needed, when I needed it, regardless of the somewhat limited store hours. If you’re in the Calistoga area and looking for top-tier bikes and even better service, Calistoga Bike Shop is the place to go.

Yelp
Was on a brief road trip through Calistoga and found Calistoga Bike Shop on Yelp! They have hourly, half day and full day rentals of e-bikes and pedal bikes. The staff is super friendly, helpful and engaging. The e-bikes were out of this world!! In renting bikes around the world, these by far were the best and best maintained, down to shock absorption in the seat - you often felt like you were flying! Only suggestion is if you have a technical issue that's on them, they should comp that time spent instead of "keeping the meter running"
google avatar

Debra U.

Yelp
Quick easy reasonable. They open at 10 walked in 1015 for new grips. In out in 10 minutes with grips and checked the tire pressure. Only $20 and a $20'tip. Will return!

Yelp
This is an awesome bike shop ! The staff is so helpful and friendly. We rented the e-bikes two days. Excellent brands and quality of bikes. We really appreciated the service and expertise of the staff and recommendations on where to bike , eat and visit wineries were perfect. Had a great two days! Thanku Calistoga Bike shop !

Yelp
Prepaid, easy check-in, couldn't have asked for a better day! Loved the intention of including a map too and spending time with us checking in. I decided to bring my own helmet. The cruisers were fun to ride!

Trevor F.

Yelp
New favorite bike shop, my dad had bought his used specialized epic s works here and got a smoking deal, and asked for Marshall's help surprising me with my new specialized E-mtb by pretending it was for someone else, after the first ride we took in my old bike and new one and had all of our questions answered, Jim and Marshall were super knowledgeable and even serviced my old bike for free.

Yelp
Excellent customer service from discussions with Brad on the phone, to delivery of the bikes to our vacation home, to just having excellent bikes. Made our vacation stress free and enjoyable.

Yelp
Great place to rent bikes and enjoy the Napa Valley Vine Trail! Online reservation was easy. We rented the sport bikes, which worked out great. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Brad gave us great suggestions of where to go and things to do while out on our ride - and we enjoyed it all!

Yelp
We rented bikes to check out the new Napa Vine Trail and had a great time! We rented hybrids and the bikes were excellent. Service was great and very helpful.

Yelp
Great shop! I was on a weekend girls trip and we rented e-bikes for the day. We rode to St. Helena and back visiting wineries and shopping. The bikes were well maintained, clean and all charged up. We were sized up and the seats adjusted for us before leaving. They gave us a map of the vine trail and off we went. Very fun day. Thank you Calistoga Bike Shop!

Yelp
Great service and e bikes. The staff was so easy to work with and the itinerary they put together for us was perfect. Highly recommend them.

Yelp
Great bike shop in Central Calistoga. Huge selection of specialized bikes. I'm not an expert on bike prices, so I can't speak for the prices. But I was happy to see rentals. If I'm ever in Calistoga and need a bike rental, now I know where to come.

ALLEGRA A.

Yelp
They've got a wide array of bikes. They are all in excellent condition. The people are friendly and open and ready to help. The bike shop is large and comfortable and they are very service oriented.

Yelp
These guys are amazing. They know their stuff, offer tremendous value and are ready to help with issues small, medium and large. The selection is amazing with tons of stock so you don't have to run all over the valley to find what you need. Their advice may be the best part of the shop. Good people that can be trusted.

Chris L.

Yelp
Fantastic bike shop with great range of products and friendly service. I hired a mountain bike and was shown the local trails on the shop computer and directed to the trailhead. Would recommend both the shop and local trails.

Yelp
First thing first. If you are lucky enough to get Karen helping you you will have such a great experience. She was amazingly nice and patient with us planning a detailed map of our ride as well as coaching us up on using the bikes correctly. She made our customer experience amazing from the start. Bikes were great and seemed brand new for how well they worked. Get the electric bikes and you'll fly around with no sweat broken, even on the hot days. I'm a heavier person and typically get stressed on e bikes because I get them down under 50% within a few hours but with these I was able to fly around Calistoga ( including a very steep hill to castello di amarosa) and when I got back the bike was still in the 50%+ range! Thank you Karen for the great experience you were wonderful. They are lucky to have someone like you customer facing

Amy B.

Yelp
Would not recommend paying the extra money for the Cool Wine Tour. Rent the bikes (the e-bike upgrade is worth the money) and do your own self guided wine adventure. Calistoga Bike Shop is a good bike rental place - they should stick to that - not bike wine tasting tours. Two star rating is due to how poorly the experience was organized, communicated (endless, confusing texts, random calls, and emails) and to top it off, the bike shop owner made it feel like it was our fault. He acknowledged there "were issues." We ended up choosing our own wineries. We asked for refund and he gave us 20% off one tour. $150 for nothing really. Poor customer service. Aside from the owner and Karen (who "organizes"the bike tours) the other bike staff were very helpful.

Jenna C.

Yelp
Location & selection are on-point however the customer service and the HEAVY metal music made it untenable to shop. We gently mentioned this to the employee and he simply laughed. Hmmmm... I tried to find an email address on their website but that does not exist so I'm posting here. I understand that I have 35 years of customer service experience but this is just over the acceptable line, IMHO. Posted on 4/18/24 at 10:30 am.

Yelp
Very friendly staff but when I got home, I realized they missed the mark on their performance. I brought in my bike to get ride-wrapped. They did a fast job, but wasn't the top-notch I was expecting. It was decent, just about what I could've achieved if I would've done it myself. I was hoping for a more professional and accurate placements of the wrap. Several pieces were misaligned. They were awesome enough to schedule me ASAP and complete it that day. I appreciated their friendliness and effort. However, I brought in a brand new $4000 bike to get ride-wrapped and walked out with a scratched dropper post and handlebar. Not too terrible place to get scratched but I haven't even rode it yet! A customer who spends money to ride-wrap their ride is most likely anal about keeping it nice. I know it's going to get scratched up and dinged, but it's my bike... can I do that to it, instead of paying the shop to do that? I had completely different expectations. They also forgot to put back a very small and minor piece of rubber nipple on top of the stem. When I called them to report these findings, they were apologetic but did not hold themselves accountable. I had to ask them to ship the nipple back instead of them offering. Also, they did nothing to accommodate for the damage to my brand new bike. I am sure they are a great bike shop for the community but this review is my personal experience and you may take it as that.

Yelp
While on vacation, I stopped in to get some additional air in my tire after replacing a flat up on the Silverado Trail. Without expecting anything in return the guy in the service area grabbed my bike, clamped it in and aired it up. The next thing I know he is lubing my chain and sharing all kinds of helpful technical tips. If this shop was in my area, I would cancel my Amazon account and buy all my bike stuff from this shop. Thanks for reminding me of the value of a small business.

Yelp
I came across Calistoga Bike Shop while searching for a Specialized Sirrus which they had available in my size, but, originally I had my heart set on finding a Specialized Fuse which are really hard to find. To my surprise, they had 1 available and my size as well. I called and left a message to make sure they were available on Sunday which of course turns out they were closed. Brad the owner texted me the following morning and told me that both bikes were still available. When I arrived at CBS, I was promptly greeted and asked how they could help me. I gave them my name and they immediately showed me both the bikes and then proceeded to the back for a test ride. Brad and the staff went beyond what I would call EXCEPTIONAL Customer Service. Every mechanical detail of the bike was explained thoroughly. In conclusion, I walked out of there with the Fuse and a BIG SMILE from ear to ear.

Yelp
Amazing customer service with reliable and knowledgeable bike mechanics. They have a great selection of accessories and bikes.

Yelp
Calistoga Bike Shop is fantastic- Dave saved my behind when I needed a quick fix. I will be back next time I'm in town.

Yelp
A very nice, full service, bike shop. Brad really knows is stuff and is very familiar with the bike routes in the surrounding areas.

Yelp
A few buddies and I traveled from the East Bay Area for a 100 mile ride starting in Napa. Unfortunately, I had a flat tire on my tubeless tires while passing through Calistoga. I called Calistoga Bike Shop and Marshall picked up. I told him what happened and he said they were pretty busy (about 3 days backed up with repairs to do). He knew I was currently on a ride and said to stop by and he'll see what he could do. When I got there, he greeted me and said "the guy who just called right?". He showed me a selection of tires they had in stock and recommended me the S-Works Turbo. He didn't try to upsell me on replacing my front tires (kudos to him for being honest and ethical). He said it would take about 20 mins and to grab a coffee around the area. No more than 10 mins, he was done. He even wiped my bike down from the sealant that sprayed everywhere. The service was quick, price was fair, but the fact he was able to get me back on the road so quickly so that we could finish our ride is the #1 reason I'll go back there the next time I'm in the area. Kudos to Marshall and Calistoga Bike Shop for everything!

Jospeh M.

Yelp
Waiting for my bike to be repaired but haven't been able give a more accurate assessment. More later

Yelp
Very efficient, and great quality rental bikes. Very fun time riding around, but make sure you avoide the major road ways.

Yelp
Really nice customer service. We rented the Tandem. It was a brand new bike The helmets are included. Don't forget to bring a lot of water if you decide to do like us and bike 2h30 by over 100°F
google avatar

Yelp
Rented bikes for my family of six and couldn't have been more pleased. Picked the perfect weather for a ride around the vineyards and town. The staff was awesome and the bikes were above par for the cost. I recommend this shop if you're looking for a unique way to see the wineries and get exercise.
google avatar

Christine D.

Yelp
If you are interested in biking around town. This is the first place you should stop. We rented bikes for all day for $20 a piece. A great deal and the bikes are nice and in good shape. Open at 10 AM, we arrived shortly thereafter. They will fit you to a bike and give you a map and some suggestions of routes to take, etc. They even give you a lock so if you want to make some stops you can without fear your bike won't be there when you return. After riding around the vineyards for part of the day we came back into town and had lunch and then a spa treatment and then we were back on the road again. A truly memorable day. We came back with the bikes before the 5:30pm deadline as they close at 6pm. They have one restroom that says employees only but they are willing to let customers use it as well. I look forward to doing this again soon. I highly recommend this place and their personnel are friendly and helpful.

Yelp
As part of our first anniversary celebration, hubba and I thought that renting bikes in Napa would be a neat idea. And it ended up being one of the best parts of our weekend! Calistoga Bikeshop is a great place to rent bikes for a reasonable price. For $50, the hubba and I were able to rent a tandem bike to ride together. This was an exhilirating ride and we both had a blast. The guys who were manning the bikeshop were really knowledgeable and gave us recommendations about what trails to take based on our experience. After educating us a bit on some tandem bike "dos" and "don'ts," they gave us a map and a bike lock and we were on our way. We ended up taking Foothill Blvd. to the Silverado Trail, which is basically a back road type of highway with a wide bike lane. It was beautiful to see the fall colors of the wineries ... and as we sped downhill it felt like we were kids again, without a care in the world! From Calistoga we went to St. Helena where we stopped for lunch at Taylor's Automatic Refresher, and then headed back to the shop. It took us about 2 hours and 15 minutes round trip, and every minute was well worth it! Bottom line: Biking in the Napa Valley is a great way to get some fresh air and a new perspective of the wineries surrounding Calistoga, St. Helena, and beyond. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area.

Jenny K.

Yelp
Great shop, great people! Friendly and informed service whether buying a new bike, renting one for visits to Calistoga or bringing one in for maintenance.
google avatar

Olen S.

Yelp
In my opinion , this is the best bike shop in northern California , marshall is one of the best techs in the business and has taken excellent care of my 2020 turbo levo. The owners of this facility have gone to great lengths to insure you have a great bike buying experience at they're store . The selection is outstanding and if they don't have what you want in stock they will get it before most other stores could hope too. The service is above and beyond as I've mentioned and the ambiance of the place is second to none. If your looking for a top of the line bike with amazing sales and service to follow that bike and if you would prefer top shelf techs tuning said bike then Calistoga bike shop should be your destination.

Yelp
We took an 18-mile, e-bike ride today (May 27) with our trusty guide, Brandon. We had a terrific time. While we live in Napa, we don't often trek to Calistoga, so to ride the backroads, view the amazing scenery and enjoy a beautiful warm and sunny day was a real treat. Brandon was friendly, helpful and knew the route well as he is an Angwin native but works in Calistoga (and attends school in St. Helena). His family is in the wine business, and it was great to learn about them while we took our ride (you don't really have to chat, but we're friendly out here!!). Yes, they are e-bikes, but we feel we worked hard on the pedals as well. That is a good thing if you want some hearty exercise! The bikes are in excellent condition. I highly recommend an e-bike tour in Calistoga whether you are a local or visitor. It's such a fun way to spend an afterrnoon. And ask for Brandon to lead the way!!

Deborah L.

Yelp
This place was great! We did the wine tour, and made it to 4 wineries as well as the geyser (by the way, definitely go there - you can pet the goats!). We arrived on a rainy day, but decided to go for it anyway. The guys there were very helpful - one of them even called a tiny family-owned winery to set up a private tour and tasting just for us (Tedeschi Winery, which was lovely and has a peacock just hanging out on the property). Navigation was easy with the map, and the bikes were easy to use, even for us city folk who ride bikes maybe once a year. They'll tell you to spit out your wine, but really, what's the point? We took it easy, stopped for lunch, and didn't get too drunk at all. We were so glad we braved the rain (which turned out not to be so bad anyway) and went for it.

Jacquie V.

Yelp
This review is for bike rental service. We rented bikes here based on the shop web site and also recommendation for a friend. We were staying a couple blocks away and wanted to plan our own sight-seeing bike ride. Both employees who helped us were professional, friendly and bike knowledgeable. They quickly provided an overview of the rental options, picked out and sized bikes for us, and gave us a map on which they'd highlighted some popular wineries and other locations. It was a great way to see Calistoga on a beautiful December day -- highly recommend!
google avatar

Carole T.

Yelp
Our original plan was to do the cool wine tour on hybrids. When we got to the shop we saw the tandem for rent and decided to give it a try. We also realized we were short on time and only had a couple of hours to devote to the experience. The shop guys, who were understaffed due to a race event elsewhere, worked hard to get everyone taken care of and out the door while maintaining friendly and helpful attitudes. They gave us a map and created a route to allow us to get some miles in before stopping at a couple of wineries---Twomey was good but Lava Vine was great!-- at the end. The rental experience was painless and the trip was very fun. What more can we ask?

Yelp
Brad, Marshall, John, and everyone else at Calistoga Bike Shop are nothing short of amazing. Super helpful for bike newbies and experts alike. My husband has been a mountain biker for 20 years but I'm new to it (I was a road biker for 12 yrs but that's way different than mtn biking) so I had a lot of questions when we were picking out our bikes. Everyone was so patient with me and they were excited I was getting into the sport. I have been to many bike shops in the past and usually find the staff not very helpful to newbies. I get it, most people are probably looking and won't ever buy. However, the team at Calistoga Bike Shop isn't like that at all. They are friendly, helpful, super bike nerds (which I say with so much love because my husband is too) and they will help you with whatever you may need or think you need. They will steer you away from something that isn't going to work for your riding style, and will work with you to find something you'll love. I told Brad that I am cautious going down hill super fast, and he took 20 minutes to discuss the different components that would make me more confident riding downhill. It was informative, and most of all, made me want to buy our new mountain eBikes from them. We just put in our order today and I'm looking forward to many more interactions with them in the coming weeks, months and years as we bring our bikes in for service. You won't be disappointed supporting this locally owned and operated shop. They're top notch.

Yelp
This place was great. We rented a big house in Calistoga and needed three good road bikes and a few friends had their bikes shipped in. These guys dropped the bikes off at our rental....picked them up when we left, and when my friend was having issues with the bike he shipped in they came over during the day , while we were visiting wineries, picked the bike up, brought it to their ship , fixed and returned the bike in one day! They were exceptional. BTW-- the premium road bikes ( surprise-- electronic shifting) were awesome. So if you are looking for a great place with unrivaled service and bikes Calistoga Bike place is the place. Next time -- I will get the owners input on some good routes.

Yelp
I broke a chain 10ft up Oat Hill Mine Trail. Brad fixed me up quickly and gave me alot of free advice. Nice clean store, well stocked and very helpful!

Sue T.

Yelp
We rented e-bikes. We got great advice on where to go. They pre scheduled us for 2 wineries based on how far we wanted to bike. They were very helpful with great tips. It was a highlight of our vacation.

Yelp
We head down to Calistoga about 4 times a year. I found the great opportunity to have my bike stored at Calistoga Bike Shop rather than needing to fly with it. Brad and the team at CBS have been awesome. They keep my bike in great shape, deliver it to my place when I need it, and go out of their way to accommodate my sometimes weird travel schedule. In addition to storage, they provide great repair services and carry some great brands of new bikes. I highly recommend them. They've made our trips to Calistoga that much better and lower stress.

Uriel G.

Yelp
About as snobby as it gets but it's Calistoga. I walked in on a tranquil Friday afternoon hoping to buy a bike component but was ignored by the tall tech/sales guy who was on the phone. He paced back and forth while another younger (I assume non-employee) sat on a stool looking at his phone. A second customer also walked in and was ignored, but he knew better than to wait like I did, hoping to be acknowledged. The store's phone also rang but no one took the call. Now normally any decent storefront will at least explain that they are in fact busy or will ask how the customer seeks help and ask them to wait. I knew I wasn't going to get either when the two individuals disappeared into the back of the store, still on the phone. What a terrible way to treat customers.
google avatar

Alberto R.

Yelp
You guys really saved my bacon. Broke a crank in the middle of a cycling event and limped in to Calistoga after finding them on Google maps. The staff made getting me on the road again their top priority. Did a great repair very quickly. Very professional and polite mechanics. Super happy with how they stepped up in a very difficult situation for me. Thank you!

Yelp
Calistoga Bike Shop must have been wary as the two of us girls in short summer dresses and curled hair walked in ready to do the Cool Wine Tour. If they hadn't been so organized with the route, choice of wineries, and everything else, I am sure this would have been more of a disaster than it played out to be. We did the self-guided tour. $80/person for bike rentals, a detailed map of routes with the best scenery and slowest traffic, and a wristband to 6 of some of the best wineries in the area. What a steal! We didn't even have to stop anywhere expensive for lunch since there were lunchboxes attached to our bikes in which we packed sandwiches and liquids for a picnic along the way! The view was magnificent and the wines were top notch. The scent and taste of every glass differed at each winery, and that was an experience in itself. Six wineries and about 3-5 wines to taste at each...thank goodness the bike shop offers pick-ups for those who need it. I'd like to take the time to thank Brad for picking us up. I totally and completely apologize, but we were about to die. No, not from the wine, but from the heat. When I checked the Weather Channel, it was reported to be 90 degrees that day. We don't mind dry heat, so we went ahead with it. What the owners of Dutch Henry (where we collapsed after the unbearably hilly ride over) told us was that it was 102 degrees IN THE SHADE! We called Brad who came and drove us to our next winery (I really wanted to get another one in!) that was on the way back. Since it was steady ground thereafter, we had no problem getting back. I recommend this tour for anybody looking to really experience Napa Valley for all that it is. It is a MUST MUST MUST! Just don't do it in crazy heat!

Yelp
This is a review of the self guided bike tour run out of the Calistoga Bike Shop. The tour is self guided and includes 6 wineries in and around Calistoga. The tastings are in essence prepaid and you can then go to all 6 however most people, myself included only make it to 4. You are given a map, choose your bike and then basically decide which order you want to hit the wineries that are included. I would point out that although you get a wristband which gives you tasting where you ride to, a few of the wineries included already offer free tastings, so your not really getting the tastings paid for at those wineries. However, this is by far the best way to explore the wineries in the area, as the ride is flat, and picturesque and the roads do a great job of avoiding traffic. The wineries are family run, small in size and offer great personal service. Because I was staying in Calistoga this was an easy choice for a day, however, the ride is so great, I would recommend taking this tour no matter where in Napa Valley you are staying. Also pick up sandwiches and take them up to Bennett Lane Winery (one of the included wineries) where they have a picnic area. We did the wineries in this order (August Briggs, Picked up sandwiches at deli in town, Vincent Arroyo, Bennett Lane + lunch, Envy Winery, Return to shop) Taking a leisurely ride, we were out from 1030 to about 315. A great day all around.

Yelp
These guys are awesome! We rented bikes for the day ($35) and made our way to 3 area wineries. The staff was friendly and helpful. They even provided us with a map and verbal instructions, since we have issues with maps at times! If you are in Calistoga and fit enough to do a bike tour it's a must! Beautiful way to see the area! We chose some hilly routes. I'm sure these guys could help all levels as well.

Yelp
Considering the last time I rode a bike was at least a decade ago, I was a bit hesitant about doing a bike tour of wine country. I didn't think I could live down the embarrassment of a BUI if it came to that. PSA: don't drink and bike. BUIs are nothing to joke about. (There, I did my part) Between Calistoga and St. Helena, Calistoga seemed to have more selection of smaller independent wineries. CBS's prices were also about $20-30 cheaper than the bike shop in St. Helena, so we decided to rent from CBS. CBS is also the only bike shop that's open on a Monday, so something to keep in mind if you're touring wine country on a weekday. There's parking along the main street, but you should circle around the back and park in the lot in the back. Brad was super nice and had us ready to go within 10 minutes. You are given a map and a route highlighted for you. We decided we wanted to tour wineries more than the biking experience, so we cut the route in half but you could easily adjust your route according to your preference and time limit (FYI, the standard route that Brad highlighted for us was about 18-20 miles roundtrip). For those nervous about riding on the highway (okay, me), there are really only a small stretch where you are riding along Silverado; most of the roads are small or back roads where there are hardly any cars. They offer a wine tour ($80/person) where you get free tastings for 5 local wineries in addition to the bike rental, but they are spread out quite a bit so if you cut the tour in half, you are really only able to get to 2-3. We decided to do a self-guided tour ($39/all day bike rental) and visit many of the other wineries located nearby. Most of the wineries are open on a weekend, but know that if you are visiting on a weekday, some of them are open by appointments only. While it's pretty easy to call and go visit, I'd advise calling ahead of time to schedule an appointment because not all the wineries picked up their phones when we called. The bikes are outfitted with a small zipper bag on the back, so you could easily fit two bottles (three if you squish) and bring it with you. If you choose to do the wine tour, CBS will stop by and pick up the wine for you to be picked up at the shop by the time you return. If you're coming here on a hot summer day, definitely bring water with you (it's not the distance but rather the weather/sun that can be killer). Also, there are no restaurants/stores along the route, so either bring a lunch or pick up some sandwiches in downtown before you leave.

Yelp
Calistoga Bike Shop is run by some seriously nice folks. I had contacted them a few weeks ago to arrange for some bike rentals for a group that was coming to the wine country. We went back and forth several times about the number and types of bikes I would need, the abilities of the riders, and eventually the need for a guide. As the folks I work with are changeable types, we ended up not renting any bikes at all, and the folks who needed the guide showed up 45 minutes late for their time slot. Through it all, Calistoga Bike Shop kept their cool and their good nature, which I really appreciated, especially since some vendors don't dig the last minute cancellations - which I completely understand. Looking forward to actually renting some bikes from them in the future and taking advantage again of their superior customer service.
