We were vacationing in the Catskills near Callicoon and this time of year a lot of restaurants are closed mid week. There are not a lot of choices when they are all open, so the selection was few.. We saw this place from the outside and it is absolutely charming with cute signs outside, string lights, very cozy, so we decided to try it. Turned out to be a great meal, we even returned for lunch a few days later. The menu was largely pub inspired comfort food. Couldn't decide between the meatloaf, chicken pot pie or jagerschnitzel (pounded pork cutlet, breaded and sautéed with mushroom sauce) which we ordered. Started with martinis, our go to drink which many places "break", meaning watered down from shaking too long with wet and often small bar ice. However, theirs were great. Then we had a Caesar salad, dressing on the side and that was as good as it gets. The schnitzel was cooked perfectly, tender with a great gravy, large portion mashed potatoes- got a double portion rather than the veggies. For lunch, had a deep fried hot dog, which was interesting. It was a thick hot dog, fried and then served on a bun like normal. It had a nice crisp skin, cooked perfectly. I didn't care for the flavor, I prefer an all beef dog but my wife enjoyed it. Had a meatloaf sandwich which is grilled with Swiss cheese on rye, reminiscent of a patty met, so I did add sautéed onion. It was also excellent, a lot of cheese on both sides of the meat, just the way I like it. Both came with fries. They are the type that are dusted with flour so there is a slight crunchy coating, hot and fresh and quite tasty. Besides the great food, it had a really nice vibe, friendly wait staff, a nice old wood bar, some outside dining available. Very comfortable and clean. I highly recommend this place, you can't go wrong.
