Stayed here for three nights in December 2022. Solo birthday trip. This hotel was not a planned part of my stay.
The first hotel I booked wasn't fit for habitation. So I canceled that reservation, and was a bit worried of where I would stay for the duration of my trip. A local gentleman recommended Calypso, this would not be my first choice should I return to Boca Chica.
The young lady at the front desk initially quoted $90/night, then $70. Given that I felt a bit desperate, and had no cellular service without wifi, I agreed. It wasn't until I'd settled in that I thought to check the price online. It was $40/night.
There is "beach" in the name, but this is not a beach front property. The hotel is about half mile from the water. Half of a mile is nothing to walk, but it's atop a steep hill. Also, there's no beach, per se. There's water, but nowhere to set up a towel on the sand and lay. There's tables and chairs from the restaurants, then there's water.
The dining area was dusty and the pool could have used a little scooping to remove the little bits of debris. My room had no surface area to lay things, just the bed and a mini fridge. A small table and chairs would have fit well, plus it would have given me a chair to put on the balcony.
The area is not quiet. There is a corner/liquor store that plays music in the afternoons and evenings, then when they turn their music off, there's a nightclub across the street. I enjoyed it, but others may not.
My room was a standard room (when I asked for a room facing the pool, she replied that was double the price.) Spacious. Tile floor. The property always appeared clean, and is designed well. The staff was friendly. The area is lively and fun. There is a grocery store within a mile, as well as several stores for souvenir shopping. Breakfast was included each morning. Freshly made when you arrived. I have included a view from my balcony, breakfast, and a photo in their dining area. Not bad.
