How to Experience Milwaukee Like a Local in 2025

"If you prefer a more modern option, I like this hotel for its nice guest rooms and amenities and for being positioned right between Downtown and the Third Ward, giving easy access to both neighborhoods." - Matthew Kepnes

We had a positive experience staying at this hotel. The customer service, primarily Charlotte and Tamika at the front desk, were very friendly and helpful. Take note that there is a security deposit of $150.00 for the stay. The rooms were nice. We could control the temperature, the bed was comfortable, there was a refrigerator and a microwave, and they also had coffee available for free in the lobby. We will be coming back to this conveniently located hotel.

This hotel is very poorly managed. I booked a room for one night via the link on a wedding website with a wedding rate. I called the morning of the wedding to inquire about the possibility of checking in a little early. During that call I was told that I didn't have a reservation because their system showed me checking in on Thurs and because I was a no show, my room was given away and my credit card was charged for a no show. After explaining over and over that I absolutely did NOT book for Thurs and getting nowhere I asked to speak to a manager. I was told that the front desk mgr. name is Angie. I left 4 messages with a front desk employee for Angie to return my call (as she was supposedly never there when I called) as well as two voice mail messages with explanations of my issue. She never returned any of my calls. I found an email address for the general mgr. and sent one explaining my issue. I never received a reply. I scrambled to find another hotel in the area with a room available. I was lucky to find a room at the Hyatt where I was treated with kindness and respect and after explaining what happened the Hyatt even gave me the wedding rate. The mother of the bride gave me contact information for the person that set up the room block at the Cambria, so I contacted him. He admitted that the mistake was the fault of the hotel. I appreciated his honesty. He was responsive and after a few weeks and a few follow up emails I was issued a refund for the mistakenly charged no show. I have relatives that attended the wedding and had issues with this hotel as well. Ive stayed at different Cambria hotels in the past with great experiences. This one is just very poorly managed.

Before booking with a live representative, I specifically asked about parking to which I was placed on hold then assured there was plenty of parking at this facility. Upon arrival, I was met with only 1 open space available (I drove truck and enclosed trailer) and I was informed that I had to pay to park. I have never paid for parking my own vehicle at a hotel. I was also never advised that there would be a deposit taken which more than doubled my quoted room price. This is terrible business. Customers should be aware before booking of any surprise charges so they can make informed decisions about where to stay. This is bait and switch. Offering only slightly cheaper room rates but with parking fees it was more than a room that was 20 miles closer to my destination. Severely displeased. Staff were nice and rooms were clean, but I am not happy with the deceptive practices by the company as a whole.

My wife and I stayed at the Cambria Downtown Milwaukee for a quick business trip, and we were honestly really impressed. The hotel feels modern and upscale, but still comfortable. Our room was super clean and well put together—one of the cleanest we’ve stayed in, actually. What stood out the most was the front desk staff—they were genuinely kind and helpful, not just going through the motions. It’s clear they care about the guest experience. We’d definitely stay here again next time we’re in town.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The customer service at the front desk, Charlotte and Tamika, was stellar. The location was convenient to the 3rd Ward Public Market and walking distance to several great restaurants. The hotel is near a traffic hub, so it is not QUIET. That is to be expected in a bustling city. We were able to tune out the background noise. The price was very affordable. You will need to provide a $150.00 security deposit so be prepared.

We were very disappointed because of many things. We needed to choose a hotel near a concert we were attending. This was supposed to be closest. But it was much farther than stated online. We wanted a bar and dinner bc not having time to eat during day. We went with friends bc I researched and they also got a room there. Website said bar and restaurant opened at 5-10pm Mon-Thurs. checked menus. Looked good. This was a Thursday. Go down at 5:00. Not open. Due to not enough people in hotel that night! They did not mention it when checking in! When we first got there, I hit my shin on the modern bed platform sharp corner and had a serious cut and spurting blood. My husband tried to get some first aid supplies- at least bandaids and antibiotic cream. They had no idea. We had to go to concert that cost more to get to, with no food in our stomachs. Beds very uncomfortable. Crunchy feeling, not soft. Water pressure in sink faucet so bad could not brush teeth. Had to use a water bottle. No one seemed to care about us. Also a review said it was only hotel that had free parking. Nope $28 a night! And we went down in time for the morning breakfast that was alluded to. Did not come with room after all. Not even coffee and a donut.

Cambria Review Look at my reviews. I almost never leave bad reviews. But I felt this was merited. The front desk attendants had no personality. In fact, they were semi-rude at times. The bar was only open one night. (Definitely no happy hour as advertised.) First night they said “tomorrow night”. Every time there was an excuse why it wasn’t that night and never apologized. Coffee was cold three mornings - obviously left from the previous day. The attendant saw me getting the coffee two times and said nothing. I asked when there would be hot coffee (it was after 7am each time) and one time the attendant said, “I can’t do it and my staff hasn’t come yet”. Another day I was told, “Oh they’re brewing it in the back.” 30 minutes later, they still had not. They could’ve at least removed yesterday’s coffee before I poured a cup of cold. (Thankfully, by the third time I knew to “taste test” first.) Most of the time we had to wait or go looking for someone to even ask a question. If they were behind the desk, they never looked up until we said something. Plus, they never acknowledged us when we walked in the door from being gone. Even when we said hello, there was seldom any response. It appears management needs to do (and maybe take) some basic customer service training. That said, the place was clean and convenient to most that we wanted to do. And the cleaning staff were all friendly in the halls. But I’m not sure I’d stay here again. Too many disappointments for the price we paid. Customer service matters.

The door to our room didn’t look when we left the room. All someone had to do was push on door and they could have entered. Which we didn’t notice until we returned after being out most of the evening. It was only locked when we were in the room because we had the dead bolt. In the morning we had no hot or even warm water in the shower just ice cold. There was warm water in the sink. Not happy we couldn’t take a shower before heading out especially with how hot and humid it was the day before and was forecasted to be that day.
