13 Best Affordable California Vacations

"Two neighboring coastal towns offering complementary vibes: a historic, family-run main street full of cafés, antique shops, and pie counters near bluff trails and a scenic moonstone beach, versus a small surf town with a walkable main strip, playground-friendly beaches, and a surprisingly lively local food scene. Highlights include a celebrated pie counter, coastal bluff preserves for hiking, nearby opportunities to see seals or tour a famous historic estate, standout bakery pastries, casual beachside breakfasts and bowls, seaside seafood dinners, and a mix of simple beachfront inns and stylish motels for overnight stays." - Chelsee Lowe Chelsee Lowe Chelsee Lowe is a Los Angeles-based writer with an obsession with good eats and interesting stories. I highly recommend this lodge! We had an amazing time and truly enjoyed our experience here. After a long 7-hour motorcycle ride, we decided to unwind by the pool, and it was just what we needed. Laying on the pool chair while listening to live music was incredibly relaxing! Our room was exceptional—very clean, spacious, and comfortable. It had a cozy living area, a wonderful bathtub with jets, and a lovely patio perfect for relaxation. Everything about our stay was perfect, and we can’t wait to come back! If you’re looking for a great place to relax, this lodge is definitely the way to go!

This establishment is wonderful! The setting is ideal, quiet with the wind whistling through the pines. The rooms are clean and nicely updated. The beds are very comfortable and the linens smell great and they are fresh and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. The meals are sublime, everything is prepared perfectly and the produce is so fresh and delicious. The grounds are immaculately maintained and thoughtfully designed. Our entire experience was so peaceful and relaxing that we didn't want to leave.

I can’t recommend the Dinner Escape Package more!!!! All the staff was so nice and we felt very taken care of. What a wonderful pet-friendly suite! Clean, private and spacious. As another reviewer mentioned, no A/C but it cools off enough at night for it to be comfortable in the room with the windows open. We will definitely be coming back here again. We brought our dog and he enjoyed it even more than us. I think it’s his favorite trip he’s even been on!

Google
This is a wonderful, pet friendly resort. The grounds and all facilities are beautifully maintained. The rooms are.all lovely and on this trip we had an exceptionally nice room with a king bed (very comforrable) a wonderful shower and restroom facilities and even a private patio! The staff are all helpful and very friendly. They even provided a special puppy bag with treats and a small rope for our little dog to play with. There is also.a.vwey nice dog park where dogs can run free and exercise. The evening meal.and the breakfast buffet were very tasty also. This is a terrific place for a getaway vacation!

Google
Super cozy and good size room for a mother/daughter trip with 2 queen beds. Note there were some stairs up to our room, but that may not be the case for all 2 queen bed rooms. The breakfast buffet was delicious, the property was beautiful to walk around, and the other food options were wonderful as well (salads, drinks, outdoor pizza night with live music). 10-15 walk to main street if you're able to navigate some steep stairs.

We are getting married here in 6 weeks and had only been there once. We just went to stay for a night and gain our bearings. We walked through the gardens to the nursery, which has got to be the cutest nursery I've ever been to and Patty was incredibly helpful and kind! Then back at the lodge Judy has been accommodating with all of the wedding requests I have had and showed us around again so we could familiarize ourselves and settle some of the details. I am so excited to go back for our wedding and share this wonderful place with all of our favorite people. Thank you!

I love Cambria Pines Lodge. The setting is like no other; the gardens are so peaceful that I feel totally relaxed in this place. The location is very convenient and the staff is cordial and professional. It is always clean and you can count on that which for me is very important. We stayed in one of the King Junior Suites with enough space for 4 people and our puppy. It is always a delight to stay at the lodge. My place away from home!!! Thank you for keeping the tradition!

Google
Terrible all the way around. Screens hanging out of the window. Reserved a courtyard with view. Had a window that I could not open because the screen was pushed out and a view of a run down storage shed. Dog friendly? ??? No place for dogs, not even conveniently available poop bags. No place for them to go. The customer service provided by the front desk person, Rachel, was awful, akin to dealing with Lurch from The Munsters. I was told the manager would contact me. I never heard from her and had to contact her myself. She offered a little discount on the bill. Non-apologetic, insincere. The discount was never applied. I had to call again and ask two more times. The manager Bernadette was awful. My special time with my daughter was ruined.

Yelp
Our stay at Cambria Pines Lodge was absolutely fantastic! Quiet? That's an understatement--it was like the whole place had a mute button. Birds chirping, trees swaying, no screaming kids or rogue leaf blowers--just peace in its purest form. If you're looking for a serene escape, this is it. We scored a room super close to the stairs leading down into town (not a bad climb at all) and just a short walk from the pool and hot tub, which I'm happy to report was at perfect steamy Goldilocks temperature. Not too hot, not too cold--just right for a night soak under the stars. We booked one of their special packages that included dinner and breakfast each day, and both meals hit the spot. The lodge's main building is beautiful and gave me strong "old money meets rustic charm" vibes. Now, let's talk about our room: it had TWO fireplaces--one in the bedroom, one in the sitting area--because apparently we were living the good life for the weekend. Cozy, romantic, and just the right amount of "I feel like I should be wearing a bathrobe and sipping something fancy." Only downside? The bathroom-to-bed proximity. Let's just say the sandwich I had in town turned on me faster than a plot twist in a telenovela. There I was, experiencing a gastrointestinal exorcism just feet from the bed while my poor girlfriend tried to hold in her laughter between my dramatic cries of, "Ohhh my gosh" and "What the heck did I eat?!" Not ideal for a first vacation as a couple, but hey--if she didn't run after that, we're solid. Despite my digestive downfall, I would 100% stay here again for a romantic getaway. The staff was super friendly, and I loved that you could text them questions and get an immediate response like some kind of magical hospitality hotline. Highly recommend Cambria Pines Lodge.

Yelp
This is a lovely lodge to stay. One of a few places where it hits all the high points. The grounds are beautiful - take the time to walk the grounds and explore, it's totally worth it! The rooms are large and comfortable, -really enjoyed having the separate living room and sleeping room. Food is delicious and if you book directly with the lodge you get free breakfast -which is plentiful and with good options. For added fun the lodge has nightly music which was a blast! And on Fridays pizzas outdoors with music. So three things I'm going to say about this place to consider. 1. Walls are thin. If you stay in a downstairs room you will very clearly hear footsteps from the upstairs bedroom. 2. Rooms should be cleaned daily. That's part of the guest experience that when you come back to the room the beds are made, it's tidy and there are fresh towels. 3. The pets - I understand that folks like to take pets on trips but allowing pets in the restaurant is not ok. It does not consider the other guests who may have allergies or don't want pet hair flying around while they eat. Aside from that I would highly recommend a stay here. A bonus, during Christmas this lodge puts on an incredible Christmas light show and one not to be missed. We will absolutely be back.

Yelp
Was at a wedding here. So beautiful. All staff, super amazing except one lady at check in that seemed to hate being there. The venue was perfect. Great food and drink. Rooms $$$$$ but quiet and wonderfully appointed. Quiet. With a view. I'd go back. In forest just miles from the beach. Moonstone... Just serenity here with a beautiful pool, gardens... Live music nightly!!!!

Yelp
Stayed here in August as a girl's trip. It was a beautiful location and conveniently located to places to visit nearby like Hearst Castle. The breakfast was delicious, would stay here again.
google avatar

Bev S.

Yelp
I visited here stayed 2 nights the Christmas extravaganza here is absolutely amazing with glittering lights galore! I truly appreciated all the hard work to create this Christmas light amazing huge display of fabulousness! We strolled around for hours then the dining & bar area had live music, it was such a delightful holiday time with my son! The cottages are amazing here with a feel of true comfort with the fire place warmth! I plan to return this December with family!

Yelp
I accidentally stumbled upon this place while looking for something to eat while visiting Cambria, we were able to squeeze in last minute and order lunch. Very sweet staff and great cozy environment. Felt very homey.

Yelp
One of our go-to places to stay on the central coast. Our latest stay was in a king suite spa tub room, with two fireplaces, two tvs, micro, fridge, full couch, lovely wooden furnishings which was reasonably priced in February. Grounds are lovely, especially their gardens behind the lobby/lounge. We have stayed here several times in an upstairs unit with a view out over the valley.Their Christmas lights are a must, but book early. Restaurant is great, the lounge has a happy hour and live music. You can walk down the hill to town, and its a great spot to stay if touring Hearst castle, or checking out the elephant seals ten minutes up the coast.

Yelp
Management had no regard, and failed to engage us in an attempt to recover property (4 bottles of wine, 1 bottle of champagne, worth $325) left in our room. One or more employees took possession of our property, and apparently concealed the fact, unless their "Lost and Found" practice serves as an employee perk... we'll never know, but it's reasonable to conclude that management condones their conduct without concern for the customer.

Yelp
This was my first time staying here and it did not disappoint. The grounds are so pretty and lush. I was here for a wedding and it was very memorable. The complimentary breakfast is from 7:30a - 10:30a and offers a nice selection. The rooms are comfortable and have a fridge, microwave and the ability to make some coffee. The lodge sends pleasant text messages and many of the features can be done electronically (including check out). Check in is after 3p and check out is before 11a.

Yelp
Beautiful Property, pool, spa, restaurant and rooms. Beds were comfy and rooms were spacious. Great free buffet breakfast. Staff were friendly. Will be back again!!

Yelp
Always a great getaway staycay even tho only about 20 minutes or so from home. Had a great spring vacation special as a repeat guest and the updates and refreshed rooms are comfortable and spacious. We had one of the spa tub cottages with two fireplaces (nice atmosphere tho it was warm so we didn't use them) cute patio and double sinks in the bathroom. Comfy bed and lots of pillows. Included is breakfast buffet each morning with many options. The reason for the lower scores was the not so friendly people at the front desk. Yes we did get their early and all I wanted to see if change of early check in (like only about 30 minutes) and then was given a scoff rolled eyes and said "no come back at 3 your room isn't going to be ready until 3" so coming back at 305, someone else said "well we had a lot of housekeepers call out sick and your room still isn't ready" why was I told to come back at 3 if they knew it wouldn't be ready? Then at 330 the nicest of the 3 ladies I interacted with apologized and said yes let's get you to your room right away" not a warm experience at all, but all the people I engaged with on property and during breakfast were friendly and cheerful

Yelp
This is a hotel located on a hill. This place has a forest landscape with a rural feel to it. It is worth mentioning that all the rooms are individually separated and have spectacular forest views. Besides, if you are lucky, you may see some wild animals such as deer, hares, and birds. We have seen them all. And this hotel has a big swimming pool and a jacuzzi next to the restaurant. The room was cozy and big with a fireplace and a tub. From the backyard or balcony, you can see plenty of trees. I would recommend it when traveling through San Simeon or Cambria. Especially during the Christmas Lights show. Parking at Cambria Pines Lodge is reserved for the hotel guests and the VIP lodge parking costs about $40-60.
google avatar

Jazmin T.

Yelp
It was crowded at arrival a long line at check in a day after Christmas but move fast. They also send you an online check in that made the process faster. They give you the package that will include the parking pass, wristbands for the lights and the breakfast pass. Very organized and fast service. We called to requested extra towel and to come unlock the Murphy bed and they arrived super fast. The king bed was comfortable and room is spacious. Overall was a great experience.

Yelp
We went there to hear music in the lounge area. Unfortunately we Didn't have dinner there m.

Yelp
Our room was clean, and we had the jet tub suite, which was very nice--big and spacious. The resort itself is quite nice too, although a bit outdated; they seem to be maintaining a lodge-style theme. The main reason we chose this place was that it offered a hot breakfast. We stayed for three nights, and the breakfast was the same each day. One day, they had French toast, but it was mostly sausage, roasted potatoes, and eggs mixed with bell peppers and cheese, which were really good--much better than the spinach version. They also offered orange juice, three selections of cereal, coffee, oatmeal, and fruit. Overall, it was a pleasant stay, but I wish they would include bacon or vary the menu a bit. We hoped for an early check-in, but our room wasn't ready; check-in isn't until 3 PM.

Kim C.

Yelp
1. Room was musky and moldy. 2. Walls are thin. We couldn't get a good night's rest because we could hear people talking and walking upstairs and heavy footsteps vibrating throughout the room. 3. Water in the shower was low pressure it was hard taking a shower. 4. No ice machine available in the complex they gave us, we had to walk across the street and ask the bartender at the bar.
google avatar

Athena O.

Yelp
The music in the bar area is not as good as in previous years, although there is live music every night. The food is ok. One night, there was a full blown fist fight! Music, alcohol and fights. What more could a tourist ask for?

Yelp
We've stayed here for a summer weekend both this year and last, and I think we may need to try to make it a tradition. Cambria Pines Lodge is nestled in a neighborhood on a hill above the main street area of Cambria. It consists of several different lodge and cabin style buildings (many with four different hotel rooms/suites to a building), in a nicely landscaped property with several wonderful activities of interest. There is a pool, fire pit, small sports area, spa, restaurant, and wandering walking paths that take you through wooded areas and beautifully landscaped gardens complete with flowers, water features, sitting benches and other wonderful surprises. The rooms aren't the most up to date, but they are comfortable. The suites are spacious and have a microwave and mini-fridge, which is really helpful in Cambria--where dining options are sparse. Wi-fi and television service are a bit spotty, but since that's not the reason we chose this place, it didn't bother us much. I'm a huge fan of ice (I use more than most people), and it was a bit of a trek to find one of the few ice machines on site, but it worked and filled my several zip lock bags for our cooler without running out. Included with the cost of your room is a breakfast buffet. This buffet offers hot and cold options and has enough variety to be able to satisfy most guests. While the dining room can get pretty crowded, guests have the option to take their food out to several tables in the garden, which we found to be a wonderful treat! With a short drive to Moonstone Beach or downtown (or a moderate walk on a designated path if that's your preference), my family has found this to be a wonderful and comfortable place to relax for a few days while we get-away from the bustle of our daily lives. We look forward to visiting again--maybe for one of their annual holiday events!

Yelp
My husband and I decided to celebrate our anniversary by booking a cabin at Cambria Pines Lodge. We loved it! Our cabin was spacious and extremely cozy with a very comfy bed. The bathroom was a nice size (although there was some water damage to the cabinet in there, and a small bit of mold in the shower grout in the corner). I think the only issue with the bathroom we had was the toilet was incredibly loud (it sounded like an airport super flush toilet). However, those things made no difference to us because it was super quiet and the one thing we both loved the most was being able to lay in bed in the middle of the afternoon with the windows open and seeing a field full of wild flowers. It was glorious and I wish we had that same vibe at home. It's a bit pricey so this is a place we would definitely come back and stay in but only for a special occasion. Thank you for the comfortable and peaceful stay, Cambria Pines Lodge!

Yelp
Superbowl day! Amazing view from our balcony. It was relaxing. The room is huge! The king suite! Dinner was great and breakfast was amazing. It's our second time here and we'll visit here again

Yelp
We purchased the package for the stay and the Christmas market. The room was clean and welcoming. The staff was excellent. The parking was on site and easy to access. The Christmas market was amazing. We definitely will be returning. You absolutely need to go to the Christmas market gift shop in the garden area. It was outstanding.

Yelp
The property grounds are breathtaking and beautiful. The staff is very kind and welcoming. We loved the garden , the bar/ restaurant with live entertainment and the breakfast served in the morning. The rooms , you get what you pay for basically not a 4 or 5 star rating maybe a 3 at most . The furniture is old , smells and it's dirty. The walls were dirty and door handles were dirty. It was smelly and dirty.... Really left an impression on me ...would probably never stay here with my family again. I think they only clean and replace the sheets. The fact that we returned back and the card reader did not work and we had to flag down maintenance crew to open our door and bring us new cards really was over kill. The property itself was very nicely decorated. Maybe property management needs to address the cleaning issue and inspect the rooms after cleaning. Kudos to the hard working staff at the bar, kitchen and front desk , regardless of the shortcomings of the room they put a smile on our face.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place! Accommodations are excellent, but I'll tell you - I had the best prime rib, and my wife had the best surf & turf she's ever had. The cool thing about our visit is that we brought our dog - a big 77lb bundle of hyperness. Not only do they allow dogs, but they accommodate them. It was so fun to sit outside and have the pooch right there while we ate. Other things ... the music in the lounge was very good, the staff was amazing, and the free breakfast is pretty OK. I have no idea what the cost was, because it was gifted, but I really had a great time! I did, however, have to fill my tank at $6/gallon which I wasn't too happy about, but not their problem! I'm not going to rush out and stay there again any time soon because it's kind of a one-and-done situation - real low-key - but I'm glad I experienced it at least once in my life.

Yelp
BEWARE OF BED BUGS! If you plan to stay here, be prepped for bed bugs, and LOTS of it. I stayed here just one night and came back home with 30-40 bites all over my body; both my hands and arms, my legs, feet -- literally all over. It has been so painful to have all of these itchy bites all over my body. The pain-relieving cream did little to help. The bruises have recovered for the most part, but it looks like the marks will remain for a long time. I reached out to the hotel about it and they told me they'd get back to me. Two weeks later, I've got no response. Thanks for the worst hotel experience of my lifetime.

Yelp
Great stay for first timer Cambria visitors. Dal at the front desk was awesome and helpful! There was a minor issue with our room and the staff went above and beyond to make it right WOW! Fun trails and cool things to do on the property (pool/ live music/ exploring). The nursery across the street was super cool lots of eclectic things. Overall highly recommend overall a great first taste of Cambria!

Yelp
This is a place to put on your bucket list. The rooms are very nice . The staff very nice and helpful. Rooms are ada friendly. The whole place is dog friendly and very clean. The breakfast they serve is delicious. The light display is amazing and very safe . Security and police everywhere. Please come here at least once. If not to stay in hotel go for the Xmas lights

Yelp
I stayed the night on 4/26/2025. I really like the setting and how it gives the feeling of staying at a cabin in a forest. The issues I had were the front desk service was rude, our room's telephones did not work and our cells barely worked, we were missing a extra blanket and got interrogated why we needed a new one, they had a wedding that was bumping music until 11pm, and then the (included) buffet breakfast in the morning was hella crowded without an option to take the food back to the room due to the lack of indoor seating, with outdoor seating limited because it rained overnight. The 11pm music really angered me the most since I am a light sleeper that goes to bed early to get up at 5am to workout. I get music going to 10; I can get away with close to 7 hours, but not less than 6. I notified the front desk by text message and they never responded.

Lisa J.

Yelp
Nice place. I was a guest of a friend staying at the hotel for an event last night. All was going fairly well until a fight broke out where there was a few people throwing punches and some stuff crashing to the . Anyway, not the hotel's fault as a matter of fact Security showed up fairly quickly and seemed to deal with the situation separating the fighters. Eventually returned to normal. Terrible when some people act up and trying to ruin the time for others. I hope nobody was badly injured. Didn't catch the bartender's name but he was very helpful. UPDATE: after seeing the viral video of the fight that took place in the lounge from now a different perspective I take back what I said about it not being the hotel's fault. They oversold alcohol and there were so many people that were drunk beyond belief that the hotel should be responsible for everything that happened. Absolutely reprehensible.

Erika P.

Yelp
I have mix feelings about this place. Location is beautiful, and the rooms are large. Pool is nice and heated, jacuzzi was out of service but the water was still very warm and it was enough for us to enjoy it. Restaurant staff are very friendly, specially Jackie a server from the lodge restaurant. She went above and beyond nice, while working by herself. Food was really good and so the drinks well made. They also have life music, the sing was amazing. On our last day, we went to the front desk to ask for creamers at 5 am. The guy refused to walk a few steps to get it ( restaurant is on the side of the front desk). Later on we found out that we got charged extra for having kids that was entered with wrong ages at the website. We booked a room with extra beds and $20 was charged for kids between 8-13. We brought it up to the front desk ( at this time was a lady), who was very short with us. Even after we told her that it is against policy and against the law. Not going to argue for $20 after paying $600 for two nights, not worth my time. Even if it was for some purpose other than just charged, we got not explanation besides the ages were entered wrong. Room is outdated and we found spiderwebs inside and outside. Also careful drink with the disposal cups that are placed in the rooms, housekeepers running around ( probably short on staff) ,with a small low cart ( few inches from the floor), were they placed anything from cleaning rags to chemicals, all together. I don't think that we will come back to Cambria Pines Lodge again, we probably going to try a new place.
google avatar

Debra Hemman M.

Yelp
Not so happy with the room. No refrigerator or microwave. Very old heater in the wall. Be afraid to leave it on overnight. Breakfast was included which was very good. Had a fireplace with a duraflame log (1). You can buy more for $3.00 each. Probably won't stay here again.

Michelle G.

Yelp
The room was cozy. Fireplaces are the only thing that heat a room so it's a little bit cold. Nice lady at check in.

Yelp
This Vacation once again was OFF THE CHARTS AMAZING!!! Tuesday night Entertainment was the ABSOLUTE BEST in the Bar. Clayton our server in the Restaurant made our Delicious Dinner's Sooooo enjoyable! The over all staff is Amazing and WOW! Those Christmas lights!!! We will be back!!!

Yelp
Dog friendly suite was dumpy. Carpet needs to go. Sink was in bedroom, not bathroom. Did not work for sharing with friends. Toilet ran all night long.

Yelp
Second time staying here in the same year. Rooms are very clean. The staff is welcoming. The food options on site are good. This is one of the better places to stay when visiting Cambria. Locals come to the lounge often. This is truly a town that treats tourists like locals. The lodge is quiet and scenic. The complimentary breakfast is tasty with plenty of options. Short drive to the beach and you can walk to downtown area. We plan to return during the holidays for their Christmas marketplace.
google avatar

Sean G.

Yelp
Go for the Christmas Lights and the market and stop by the restaurant for a delicious meal before or after!! Yelp
Me and my wife planned a quick getaway in Cambria and we got this place through Travelzoo. We lived in the Bay Area and Cambria is 3 hours drive. Our Travelzoo package includes free dinner and daily breakfast for our 2-night stay. We didn't arrive until 4 pm and the clerk notified us that our room was ready immediately. We were billeted in a 2 story complex and were roomed on the first floor. The room is quite decent and spacious with two queen-sized beds. The room can be heated with a gas-powered fireplace. It's clean and very comfortable. The only negative I had was that you could hear the footsteps from the guest staying in the room on top of us. It's a bit annoying if you hear them early in the morning when you're still in bed. The free dinner was for any meal on their entree. I ordered their prime rib with a baked potato. Also, the dinner came with a free bottle of wine. The wine is Moonstone brand and we got the Cabernet Sauvignon. The prime was very tender and juicy. It's delicious and a big portion. The wine was good and the right pair for our dinner. For breakfast, they had a buffet serving scrambled eggs, waffles, sausage, coffee, muffins, bread, fresh fruits, and oatmeal. The lodge is only a few minute's drive to Main St. This is a very relaxing place to stay and to unwind. To get away from the city life, Cambria is a quiet place to visit and enjoy a peaceful weekend.

Shawn R.

Yelp
Always a delight, warm welcoming place. Dinner was especially nice with Carlos and Clinton. Delicious food and great service.

Speed M.

Yelp
I live nearby so I may be prejudice. There are way better restaurants with much better service on Main Street. Front desk, bar area and lounge is it's a bit western and a bit frontier. Dog: Grounds are great for walking the dog. I have never been to the dog rest area and found poop bags in the container. Not one time in the dozens of times I've been there. Usually the poop bags are on the far corner of the property where the end of the parking lot meets the dirt road. And of course, the light show at Christmas is the bomb. But don't stay at the lodge unless you like stay on Bourbon Street during Mardi Gras.

Caren C.

Yelp
We had a fantastic extended-family getaway at Cambria Pines Lodge. We booked 5 rooms, and they managed to keep the rooms all in the same area of the hotel, which was great. Every interaction with the hotel staff was wonderful with excellent service. The included hotel breakfast was top-notch! We stayed for several days, and the breakfast offering rotated (French toast, pancakes, biscuits and gravy), so we could switch things up if we wanted to. The grounds are gorgeous and peaceful. We had 5 children in our group, and they had a great time in the pool and exploring the gardens. Would definitely recommend and stay again!

Yelp
My husband and I spent a few days at this lodge. We got a good deal thru Travelzoo. We were not disappointed! The check-in was easy and the staff are more than friendly! They made sure our stay is comfortable. Our room was big and roomy and overlooking the forest. We ate dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. It was pretty good! I would definitely stay here again! Next time, though, I will request a 2nd floor room because walking and banging can be heard from our room on 1st floor during early morning and night. Other than that we had a wonderful time!

Yelp
Pros: - Several acres of beautiful lights and displays for the holidays, definitely worth the trip. - Dog friendly -Live music, with great individual, guitarists and singers who love interacting with the audience. - Generous breakfast included-- a buffet with sausage, eggs, roasted potatoes eggs with cheese and peppers, and either biscuits and gravy or pancakes. - Nice clean hot tub temperature kept at 103 F. - Very cordial staff at the front desk, very accommodating. Cons: Walls are paper, thin, so you can hear everything going on next-door and upstairs. The plates and coffee cups at the breakfast buffet are all really cold: I had to warm up my coffee cup with hot water before I poured my coffee, otherwise my coffee would've been cold. The heaters in the room are from the 1950s - the same heaters used in the old William Randall Hearst cottages, which are difficult to adjust, either gets room too hot or too cold. The Wi-Fi was pretty unreliable, kept cutting in and out. We were streaming a movie, and the connection kept getting lost. Definitely happy we stayed there, it was a lovely trip, but this place definitely could use some tender, loving care and upgrades .

Yelp
Jackie is amazing! We were in with friends during a packed Holiday weekend standing room only and she kept everyone happy. No matter how stressful it is she's always smiling and would make a great bar manager! 5***** Oh and our babies love walking there in the mornings and saying hello to everyone!

Yelp
We absolutely loved our stay here ! We have stayed several times but this time we had an updated room which was so wonderful! Clean and cozy I wanted to sit and read in front of the fire all day . We loved the Christmas market and the convenience of staying on site . The breakfast in the morning was amazing , the front desk staff was so kind and helpful ! This will definitely be our new regular place to stay when visiting cambria !

Yelp
First I am going to start by saying that this was the Thanksgiving Dinner they had for 2024. It was $70.00 per person. This is not about the hotel or any other events at Cambria Pines. We made a reservation for 6:30pm. We arrived about 5 min early and were told that there was going to be a wait. We sat at the bar tables to wait and my wife decided she wanted to have a look around. She came back about 15 min later and said that there were a lot of empty tables. She had went into the main seating area. This was after we were told that there were no tables available. Okay,........ about 25 min later the hostess came up and told us that they had a table in the back room area that she could seat us at or we could wait till they had an open table in the main dining area. We decided to take a seat in the back dining area. We went in and she said we could pick a table. There were about 10 open tables. NOW I am confused, The staff were nice and friendly so we said nothing and took a seat. After about 10 min a server showed up at our table and took our drink order and told us to grab a plate and we could start at the buffet. The selections were pretty limited but they had a few traditional dishes. I got to one item that looked like cauliflower but wasn't sure so I asked what it was. They said it was mashed potato's. The potato's had the consistency of plaster of paris but when you broke through the outer crust it was a little softer. HAR PASS on these but they had scallop potato's there too. I got done at the buffet table and went and sat down. ALL of the food was cold, not even warm. I was truly disappointed. The food didn't taste toooooo bad but it was all cold. They had a choice of turkey, ham, and prime rib for the main course. I had the turkey and my wife had the prime rib. My turkey was cold but my wife said that her prime rib was warm. She said that it was the ONLY thing that was even warm. They did bring out a new mashed potato pan and it was warm. I tried it with some gravy. Gravy was over salted and did not taste good. Had they NOT put so much salt in it it would have been just fine, and I LIKE salt. The deserts were a small slice of cake or a lemon bar. We asked later on if they had any pie. The server said they might have some he could get from another room. He came back a bit later with a VERY small piece of plain pumpkin pie. No whipped cream. My wife tried it and started gagging. She said the cinnamon was way too much. I took a bite and that was it. HORRIBLE! It tasted like they dumped a whole can in there. It was really bad. The atmosphere 1 star. The food 1 star. Food choices 2 1/2 stars The service 3 stars Price/Value 1/2 star. If the price were $20 per person THAT would have been too much in my opinion. We will NOT be attending this again and I would suggest you skip it as well. You would be better off going to Denny's for Thanksgiving. It was by far the worst thanksgiving meal I have ever had. We felt totally ripped off. I wished this didn't have to be so negative but there was just nothing good about this experience. I had hoped for something better. Good luck and make good choices. Well,....... that is about all I have got to say about this.

Yelp
What a night! Cambria Pines is the best spot. The cozy vibes exude the halls as soon as you walk in. Miss Jackie in the lounge is so tentative and sweet . We couldn't have picked a better spot to stay- and pet friendly too! Absolutely looking forward to booking our next stay soon

Yelp
We have been to Cambria twice and this will be the only place we will stay. The diversity of accommodations to choose from fit a romantic getaway or family trip. The staff is friendly and efficient. The beds are comfortable and the room is clean. Plus the views are beautiful!

Yelp
Deceptive Booking Practices & Poor Customer Service - Avoid This Hotel! I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Cambria Pines Lodge. My family has been coming here for 5 years now and have cherished every moment, This hotel disclosed they intentionally remove its listings from Booking and Expedia during November and December because of the Cambria Christmas Light Show, advertising that guests who book directly are guaranteed access to the event. However, in December, they allowed bookings through Expedia at a lower price due to low demand which we took advantage of to earn points When we arrived, instead of honoring what should have been the same guest benefits, the hotel refused to grant us access to the Christmas Light Show, something that is supposedly included for all staying guests. Instead, they charged us an additional $80 to attend--a hidden fee that was never disclosed at the time of booking. This is nothing short of a bait-and-switch tactic, misleading customers into thinking they are securing the same benefits, only to gouge them upon arrival. The hotel deliberately manipulated its booking availability to create exclusivity, yet inconsistently allowed third-party bookings without properly informing guests of the restrictions. This practice is dishonest, unfair, and completely unacceptable for a business that claims to value its customers. If they intend to restrict light show access to direct bookings only, that information needs to be clearly stated

Yelp
We visited this property recently on 9/18/22 for 2 wonderful days. This location in Cambria is very nice we always get the suite so that we get a balcony with a view of the valley area. The package we get includes one dinner with wine and our breakfast as well. The grounds are kept beautiful and the property is walking distance to Cambria by a trail leading you through the woods a short distance. Upon our arrival the staff were very nice and we had a few minutes before we could check in so we visited the bar where we met Jackie who was bartending and she was really nice. During our stay we visited Hearst Castle, Cayucos, San Simeon, and the Moonstone coastal trail. We are already planning a return trip as we love this area.

Yelp
This was my first tine at the Cambria Pines Lodge and maybe had higher expectations from the great things i had heard from family and friends. The lodge and the room we were in was a bit dated but cozy. It was nice to have a fire place in the living room and bedroom as it appeared there was no central heating system. I found a few crumbs on the end table in the living room which made me wonder how clean everything else really was. Dinner at the restaurant was good but the calamari appetizer came with a sweet chili sauce. Although this is an acceptable dip it was very spicy, even for me and didn't pare well with the calamari. There were no other options available, such as tarter sauce or cocktail sauce. The staff and employees were all very nice and we were lucky enough to still see their wonderful Christmas light display that was amazing!
