13 Best Affordable California Vacations

"Two neighboring coastal towns offering complementary vibes: a historic, family-run main street full of cafés, antique shops, and pie counters near bluff trails and a scenic moonstone beach, versus a small surf town with a walkable main strip, playground-friendly beaches, and a surprisingly lively local food scene. Highlights include a celebrated pie counter, coastal bluff preserves for hiking, nearby opportunities to see seals or tour a famous historic estate, standout bakery pastries, casual beachside breakfasts and bowls, seaside seafood dinners, and a mix of simple beachfront inns and stylish motels for overnight stays." - Chelsee Lowe Chelsee Lowe Chelsee Lowe is a Los Angeles-based writer with an obsession with good eats and interesting stories. We recently enjoyed a fantastic two-night stay at Cambria Pines Lodge and couldn't be happier with the experience. The location is excellent—it felt very central and made it incredibly easy to get to both Hearst Castle and Cambria Village. What we loved: The Accommodations: Our room was cozy, clean, and surprisingly spacious, all while remaining very affordable. The Perks: Booking directly was a great move. The complimentary breakfast saved our family so much time in the mornings, allowing us to get straight to our adventures. The Highlights: A major highlight was having access to the Christmas lights after New Year’s. It was a magical experience for the kids to see the displays without the usual crowds. The atmosphere was relaxing, and the staff made us feel right at home. We will definitely be staying here again in the future!

Stayed at the lodge for their 2025 holiday light up and Christmas market. Absolutely beautiful. The room was very spacious and clean, with a fireplace and well stocked amenities. You can't beat the convenient location and the grounds are lovely for just taking a morning or evening stroll. Breakfast buffet was excellent and the staff was very courteous and helpful. They truly want your experience there to be a good one. Would love to go back again next year.

We stayed Tues & Wed night and really enjoyed the vacation. The room was cozy and spacious with a living room and bedroom with a fireplace in each. There was a mini kitchen which we loved. Buffet breakfast was delicious with fresh berries much to my wife's delight. Evening meal at the restaurant was very good and nice size servings. All the staff was so fridndly and helpful. We enjoyed talking to the workers fixing the decorations. Christmas Market was the best kept secret. We talked to many of our friends and non knew about it and would like to go next year. Our room was an ideal location close to the lodge and at the entrance to the lights.

The Cambria pine lodge was a wonderful place to stay. We stayed for 4 days 3 nights. I called ahead of our stay and spoke with Nancy at the front desk to arrange for a pet-free room and a room with no stairs. Nancy provided great assistance and the room assigned to us was perfect for our needs. When we checked in, Ace, at the front desk was very pleasant and informative. She greeted us with a welcoming smile. |The atmosphere was so beautiful with all of the Christmas decorations and lights. |Our king bed suite was very clean and spacious. We all enjoyed how much space we had. We would book this type of room again. The balcony overlooked the light display and we enjoyed sitting out on the balcony at night and seeing so many lights on display. All of the staff were helpful and very pleasant.

We were not ready to be done with Christmas, so decided to see the Cambria Pines Lodge Christmas light display on its last night 1-18-26. They did not disappoint! Not only were the lights spectacular, but so were the included dinner, breakfast, room with fireplace and the overall ambiance. Our Doodle dog was in heaven with his private patio overlooking a lovely green area with deer, squirrels, and birds. What a lovely time!

My best friend and I came for the Holiday lights, it was a really great time! (Dec 2025) We stayed at the lodge and were able to walk to the event, which was so convenient. We had an excellent time checking out all the lights and enjoyed a dinner at the lodge restaurant. The room was cozy although, I stayed oce before and had a room with a beautiful fireplace; which would have been nice for the price but it was still worth it. The staff was very friendly and welcoming; I believe if you are going to the lights, it is 100% worth the price for the room and exhibit. I would definitely stay here again!!!!

Thank you Melissa , loved our experience here as always at Cambria Pines Lodge. The room was perfect overlooking the forest and we enjoyed the dinner in the Kiva area so much . Clinton was very thoughtful and friendly. The food was fantastic and the breakfast was delicious also. The staff is so friendly and good to us. We appreciate you all so much and are looking forward to coming back again. Corrine Sarah and Lily and Jon and Happy. 😃 We brought the entire family this time.

We came last year for Christmas and loved it so much we came back for our 2025 Christmas. Our suites have been spacious with fireplaces and they are well stocked with coffee and varieties of tea. Our refrigerator had a little freezer which we ended up using to put ice cream in from our dessert that we couldn't finish from the restaurant lodge. The food at the restaurant is so delicious. Everything we ordered last year and this year was so good, especially the filet mignon. Tender and juicy with a scrumptious demi-glace. The breakfast buffet that came free with our package (we book from the hotel itself), is very good. We've never had a free breakfast as good as this from any other hotel. In the evenings after dinner, we enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the pretty hotel grounds and going to see the lights. Such an incredibly beautiful and large display of lights. Definitely a must see! Finally on our way home, we enjoy stopping at the Cambria Pines nursery. It too, is very beautiful and big. If you love nurseries this is one you shouldn't miss. Cambria is a wonderful place to visit and I know we'll come back again.

Yelp
We came to Cambria for a one night stay at the pines lodge. We purchased the Pines Lodge Christmas package. You get one night stay at the Pines Lodge and access to the Cambria Christmas Market, one parking spot on property and breakfast the next day. Our stay included access to the full market including light displays, vendor booths and food booths. The Lodge is located in Cambria. The Christmas market and lodge are located on the same property. The rooms at the lodge are like cottages with very modern amenities. The inside is very nice. We stayed in a King large suite. We had two fireplaces, a mini fridge and a microwave. Our room was right next to one of the entrances of the Christmas market. We were just a few feet away from it, which was so convenient. We also had a balcony that looked over the Christmas market light displays. There was parking all over the property. We were able to find one right by our room. Breakfast was also included. It was a buffet style breakfast that was good. Our room was lovely and very clean. It's very quaint and cozy. My only complaint was the bed. It was extremely uncomfortable. I didn't sleep at all because of it. It seemed old and overused. There were imprints of where one would lay down, beach side of the bed. So when you lay down on it, you sink into a whole. It was awful. They need to replace that. If you have a sensitive back, the bed will be a problem for you. The check in and check out process was flawless. I did the pre check in and check out online. I highly recommend that. We were given a parking pass, breakfast pass and bracelets for entry into the Christmas market. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would love to return to the Christmas market next year but may opt to stay somewhere else because of the uncomfortable bed. Hopefully they will update their beds in the near future.

Yelp
We have literally stayed EVERYWHERE in Cambria from Moonstone, to hilltop forest rentals, cabins, homes, etc., you name it. This was our 1st time staying at Cambria Pines Lodge and I'm very glad we did. For us, as an older & recently married couple, these are our 5 top things we need in either a hotel, rental or whatever: 1. King bed, not even a question, why don't all places have king sized beds? 2. Prefer a stand alone cottage, house or whatever, WITHOUT ANY COMMON WALLS WITH NEIGHBORS. 3. Breakfast included 4. Bathtub if possible 5. Very clean Cambria Pines Lodge had all of that as well as a beautiful, dedicated little outside space with patio chairs, all for under $300 a night on an October weekend! We had two fireplaces!!! I mean, they really outdid themselves when they built these little cottages, we were extremely happy in this quiet and clean cottage. As the property is very large, there are multiple types of rooms available, we opted for the stand alone cottage, king size suite with bathtub, separate shower, kitchenette, patio and 2 fireplaces. We were extremely pleased, the only thing we could say is that the furniture although extremely comfortable was a bit old and worn. The King bed was wonderful, with plenty of blankets and pillows. The property also does weddings most weekends outside, so if you don't like noise, maybe get a room away from the lodge, which we did and there was literally no noise at all. The hotel has a nice pool and hottub, but the hottub didn't seem warm enough for a cold day (and others were saying it wasn't hot) so we skipped it. They had a relaxed lounge with lounge lizard type singers 5:30-8:30pm which was awesome for Halloween. They had a huge Halloween party anyone could attend outside. They probably had a wedding party as well (don't know for sure) and the restaurant which my husband used. He said the breakfast which was included in the price was okay. All in all, we will be back and we already booked our next stay which I was told was 20% off for your first return visit. When I checked out I got sort of rushed out by a frazzled front desk person who made the reservation but wouldn't give me a paper reservation. She insisted it had been sent to my email and I never got it. I had to call to correct the wrong email and got it straightened out. All in all a 4 star experience. ~Ms. Ali

Yelp
Wow! This was the best place to bring our pupper! It had a little patio, perfect for him to go out on to. The room was large and roomy. We had a small incident with the fireplace (person before us left the pilot on) so our room was super hot. We just rang the front desk and within 10 minutes the service guy was there with a fan in hand and was able to determine the pilot was left on and took care of it for us! The grounds are lovely! There is a staircase which leads to downtown. Be prepared, it's got 257 steps, definitely not for the out of shape. We loved taking walks, with our pup, on the trail around the property. I can't forget the food! If you book directly through the property you get to enjoy the breakfast buffet at the restaurant. This isn't just a continental brekkie, it's a full on breakfast! Eggs, sausage, French toast, sautéed veggies, and oatmeal. It was all delicious! Just a heads up - if you have a dog you need to make reservations to stay via phone, because not all of the rooms are dog friendly. They are super helpful over the phone, shout out to Leona, and will get you the room you need! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Was at a wedding here. So beautiful. All staff, super amazing except one lady at check in that seemed to hate being there. The venue was perfect. Great food and drink. Rooms $$$$$ but quiet and wonderfully appointed. Quiet. With a view. I'd go back. In forest just miles from the beach. Moonstone... Just serenity here with a beautiful pool, gardens... Live music nightly!!!!

Yelp
We enjoyed the light show last Sunday night after dinner at the restaurant which they have on their property. The beds were comfortable and they even have a living room with a comfortable couch and a tv and microwave. We invited a couple of friends over and they enjoyed their stay as much as we did.

Yelp
I visited here stayed 2 nights the Christmas extravaganza here is absolutely amazing with glittering lights galore! I truly appreciated all the hard work to create this Christmas light amazing huge display of fabulousness! We strolled around for hours then the dining & bar area had live music, it was such a delightful holiday time with my son! The cottages are amazing here with a feel of true comfort with the fire place warmth! I plan to return this December with family!

Yelp
One of our go-to places to stay on the central coast. Our latest stay was in a king suite spa tub room, with two fireplaces, two tvs, micro, fridge, full couch, lovely wooden furnishings which was reasonably priced in February. Grounds are lovely, especially their gardens behind the lobby/lounge. We have stayed here several times in an upstairs unit with a view out over the valley.Their Christmas lights are a must, but book early. Restaurant is great, the lounge has a happy hour and live music. You can walk down the hill to town, and its a great spot to stay if touring Hearst castle, or checking out the elephant seals ten minutes up the coast.

Joan W.

Yelp
I'm very disappointed. We had to cancel our reservation due to the terrible rain storms over Christmas. We waited until the last minute hoping the weather would get better. But it did not. Cambria Pines lodge refused to refund our $1400 and also would not allow us to reschedule. We have been there many times in the past but now we will never go back. This is poor customer service.

Yelp
I recently stayed at Cambria Pines Lodge and unfortunately found the experience disturbing rather than relaxing.Upon arrival, I was placed in a dark, cold room located directly by the parking lot. As a solo female traveler, this immediately made me uncomfortable. After expressing my concerns, I was moved to a second room--again dark, cold, and still adjacent to the parking lot. I would have appreciated more care and awareness when offering replacement accommodations, given my stated concerns. It wasn't until the third room that I was finally given an acceptable accommodation, this time with a beautiful view. I truly enjoyed the mornings once I was settled, but new issues emerged. The room appeared to have termites, including visible droppings. This was extremely distressing, and I am now concerned about the possibility of having brought insects home in my luggage, which could affect my wooden house.Breakfast was also disappointing. The same limited items were served every day, and the dining area had a noticeable fly problem. On several occasions, I observed flies inside the milk container, which made it very difficult to enjoy what should have been a relaxing breakfast experience. What should have been a laid-back, comfortable stay instead caused ongoing stress and discomfort. I reached out to management multiple times after my stay but never received a response--despite receiving several automated surveys. This gives the impression that favorable reviews matter more to them than addressing genuinely concerning guest experiences. While there were some positive aspects, the lack of care, cleanliness concerns, and absence of follow-up overshadowed them. I cannot recommend this property, especially for solo travelers seeking comfort and peace of mind.

Yelp
This was my first time staying here and it did not disappoint. The grounds are so pretty and lush. I was here for a wedding and it was very memorable. The complimentary breakfast is from 7:30a - 10:30a and offers a nice selection. The rooms are comfortable and have a fridge, microwave and the ability to make some coffee. The lodge sends pleasant text messages and many of the features can be done electronically (including check out). Check in is after 3p and check out is before 11a.

Yelp
This is a hotel located on a hill. This place has a forest landscape with a rural feel to it. It is worth mentioning that all the rooms are individually separated and have spectacular forest views. Besides, if you are lucky, you may see some wild animals such as deer, hares, and birds. We have seen them all. And this hotel has a big swimming pool and a jacuzzi next to the restaurant. The room was cozy and big with a fireplace and a tub. From the backyard or balcony, you can see plenty of trees. I would recommend it when traveling through San Simeon or Cambria. Especially during the Christmas Lights show. Parking at Cambria Pines Lodge is reserved for the hotel guests and the VIP lodge parking costs about $40-60.

Yelp
Our stay at Cambria Pines Lodge was absolutely fantastic! Quiet? That's an understatement--it was like the whole place had a mute button. Birds chirping, trees swaying, no screaming kids or rogue leaf blowers--just peace in its purest form. If you're looking for a serene escape, this is it. We scored a room super close to the stairs leading down into town (not a bad climb at all) and just a short walk from the pool and hot tub, which I'm happy to report was at perfect steamy Goldilocks temperature. Not too hot, not too cold--just right for a night soak under the stars. We booked one of their special packages that included dinner and breakfast each day, and both meals hit the spot. The lodge's main building is beautiful and gave me strong "old money meets rustic charm" vibes. Now, let's talk about our room: it had TWO fireplaces--one in the bedroom, one in the sitting area--because apparently we were living the good life for the weekend. Cozy, romantic, and just the right amount of "I feel like I should be wearing a bathrobe and sipping something fancy." Only downside? The bathroom-to-bed proximity. Let's just say the sandwich I had in town turned on me faster than a plot twist in a telenovela. There I was, experiencing a gastrointestinal exorcism just feet from the bed while my poor girlfriend tried to hold in her laughter between my dramatic cries of, "Ohhh my gosh" and "What the heck did I eat?!" Not ideal for a first vacation as a couple, but hey--if she didn't run after that, we're solid. Despite my digestive downfall, I would 100% stay here again for a romantic getaway. The staff was super friendly, and I loved that you could text them questions and get an immediate response like some kind of magical hospitality hotline. Highly recommend Cambria Pines Lodge.

Yelp
The beginning of our stay was very peaceful. As soon as the neighbors moved in we realized how thin the walls were in the cabin. Could hear every work and their dog barked for hours. Reported it to the office. Very annoying! Not sure if we will be back..

Yelp
Very strange experience calling the corporate reservations line to purchase a gift certificate for their property. Web site directs customers to call corporate reservations number and the man answering the phone was so apathetic and slow talking I thought it was a prank but no it's the real deal unfortunately. When he heard I wanted to purchase a gift certificate he put me on hold. Then took down all of my contact information and proceeded to tell me his "boss" does all gift certificates...but she's out today and will call me tomorrow...tomorrow comes and no call...next day comes and no call...so I call again and they explain they're attacking "as fast as they can" the huge backlog of requests buy gift certificates. At this rate I may hear back in 2028...probably never. Apathy. Attitude. No urgency. No customer care. If this is their customer facing phone line what a monumental embarrassment. Their choice. Their consequence.

Yelp
Beautiful place, great service, good food. Enjoyed Chtidtmas Market as well. Expensive...

Yelp
Our room was clean, and we had the jet tub suite, which was very nice--big and spacious. The resort itself is quite nice too, although a bit outdated; they seem to be maintaining a lodge-style theme. The main reason we chose this place was that it offered a hot breakfast. We stayed for three nights, and the breakfast was the same each day. One day, they had French toast, but it was mostly sausage, roasted potatoes, and eggs mixed with bell peppers and cheese, which were really good--much better than the spinach version. They also offered orange juice, three selections of cereal, coffee, oatmeal, and fruit. Overall, it was a pleasant stay, but I wish they would include bacon or vary the menu a bit. We hoped for an early check-in, but our room wasn't ready; check-in isn't until 3 PM.

Yelp
Always a great getaway staycay even tho only about 20 minutes or so from home. Had a great spring vacation special as a repeat guest and the updates and refreshed rooms are comfortable and spacious. We had one of the spa tub cottages with two fireplaces (nice atmosphere tho it was warm so we didn't use them) cute patio and double sinks in the bathroom. Comfy bed and lots of pillows. Included is breakfast buffet each morning with many options. The reason for the lower scores was the not so friendly people at the front desk. Yes we did get their early and all I wanted to see if change of early check in (like only about 30 minutes) and then was given a scoff rolled eyes and said "no come back at 3 your room isn't going to be ready until 3" so coming back at 305, someone else said "well we had a lot of housekeepers call out sick and your room still isn't ready" why was I told to come back at 3 if they knew it wouldn't be ready? Then at 330 the nicest of the 3 ladies I interacted with apologized and said yes let's get you to your room right away" not a warm experience at all, but all the people I engaged with on property and during breakfast were friendly and cheerful

Lindsay S.

Yelp
My family had two rooms and stayed during the Christmas Market. The market was quite lovely. The rooms are very dated with extremely uncomfortable beds. We paid over $1500 for the rooms and stayed one night. One room was extremely dated and also dirty. The room package came with breakfast in the morning. Be aware that it is buffet which is not ideal for people with food allergies.

Yelp
We've stayed here for a summer weekend both this year and last, and I think we may need to try to make it a tradition. Cambria Pines Lodge is nestled in a neighborhood on a hill above the main street area of Cambria. It consists of several different lodge and cabin style buildings (many with four different hotel rooms/suites to a building), in a nicely landscaped property with several wonderful activities of interest. There is a pool, fire pit, small sports area, spa, restaurant, and wandering walking paths that take you through wooded areas and beautifully landscaped gardens complete with flowers, water features, sitting benches and other wonderful surprises. The rooms aren't the most up to date, but they are comfortable. The suites are spacious and have a microwave and mini-fridge, which is really helpful in Cambria--where dining options are sparse. Wi-fi and television service are a bit spotty, but since that's not the reason we chose this place, it didn't bother us much. I'm a huge fan of ice (I use more than most people), and it was a bit of a trek to find one of the few ice machines on site, but it worked and filled my several zip lock bags for our cooler without running out. Included with the cost of your room is a breakfast buffet. This buffet offers hot and cold options and has enough variety to be able to satisfy most guests. While the dining room can get pretty crowded, guests have the option to take their food out to several tables in the garden, which we found to be a wonderful treat! With a short drive to Moonstone Beach or downtown (or a moderate walk on a designated path if that's your preference), my family has found this to be a wonderful and comfortable place to relax for a few days while we get-away from the bustle of our daily lives. We look forward to visiting again--maybe for one of their annual holiday events!

K L.

Yelp
The lodge is nice with pretty grounds - rooms clean - felt a little outdated. The breakfast served in the am - is the best breakfast I've ever had from any hotel - good job! Restaurant - dinner - disappointed in dinner at the lodge. Food was not great and service ok.

Yelp
Stayed here in August as a girl's trip. It was a beautiful location and conveniently located to places to visit nearby like Hearst Castle. The breakfast was delicious, would stay here again.

Yelp
I accidentally stumbled upon this place while looking for something to eat while visiting Cambria, we were able to squeeze in last minute and order lunch. Very sweet staff and great cozy environment. Felt very homey.

Yelp
The property grounds are breathtaking and beautiful. The staff is very kind and welcoming. We loved the garden , the bar/ restaurant with live entertainment and the breakfast served in the morning. The rooms , you get what you pay for basically not a 4 or 5 star rating maybe a 3 at most . The furniture is old , smells and it's dirty. The walls were dirty and door handles were dirty. It was smelly and dirty.... Really left an impression on me ...would probably never stay here with my family again. I think they only clean and replace the sheets. The fact that we returned back and the card reader did not work and we had to flag down maintenance crew to open our door and bring us new cards really was over kill. The property itself was very nicely decorated. Maybe property management needs to address the cleaning issue and inspect the rooms after cleaning. Kudos to the hard working staff at the bar, kitchen and front desk , regardless of the shortcomings of the room they put a smile on our face.

Sean F.

Yelp
Great steak dinner, and we received a complimentary dessert for celebrating our anniversary with them.

Yelp
WE ARE SO SAD! We had to cancel our trip do to a sudden illness. we called and asked if the manager would change our dates to the next weekend, we never got a return call or email, the date came and went, and now when we asked for a refund, the manager said NO! We paid OVER $300 for a room, the customer service is beyond concerning, DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE, They do not care about their guests nor your sitauion, just your money! I hope they make things right and refund us our money, since they failed to ever return a call, or an email. We will be filing a claim as well with thr better business bureau!

Susan W.

Yelp
Our first time and was very very disappointed. Our room was very dated had cob webs and dead spider in the webs. No refrigerator no microwave no air conditioner. Small heater in the wall when you first walk in. Room was freezing and took a long time to heat up to comfortable. Room had not been dusted in some time. Room is very dark even with the small lamps on. No darkening shades on the patio door. The light coming thru the curtain and blinds lit it up from outside to where it was hard to fall asleep. Room was worse than motel 6. I felt like I was in army barracks. No ice machine. Would have had to walk across two parking lots to the main office for ice. Not so friendly staff on arrival and departure especially when they notice you booked thru third party. Holes in the wall and paint coming off the walls in the bathroom. Spend the extra money and stay elsewhere. It is not worth what you pay for. I would rate 0 but can't

Yelp
Superbowl day! Amazing view from our balcony. It was relaxing. The room is huge! The king suite! Dinner was great and breakfast was amazing. It's our second time here and we'll visit here again

Yelp
We purchased the package for the stay and the Christmas market. The room was clean and welcoming. The staff was excellent. The parking was on site and easy to access. The Christmas market was amazing. We definitely will be returning. You absolutely need to go to the Christmas market gift shop in the garden area. It was outstanding.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place! Accommodations are excellent, but I'll tell you - I had the best prime rib, and my wife had the best surf & turf she's ever had. The cool thing about our visit is that we brought our dog - a big 77lb bundle of hyperness. Not only do they allow dogs, but they accommodate them. It was so fun to sit outside and have the pooch right there while we ate. Other things ... the music in the lounge was very good, the staff was amazing, and the free breakfast is pretty OK. I have no idea what the cost was, because it was gifted, but I really had a great time! I did, however, have to fill my tank at $6/gallon which I wasn't too happy about, but not their problem! I'm not going to rush out and stay there again any time soon because it's kind of a one-and-done situation - real low-key - but I'm glad I experienced it at least once in my life.

Yelp
BEWARE OF BED BUGS! If you plan to stay here, be prepped for bed bugs, and LOTS of it. I stayed here just one night and came back home with 30-40 bites all over my body; both my hands and arms, my legs, feet -- literally all over. It has been so painful to have all of these itchy bites all over my body. The pain-relieving cream did little to help. The bruises have recovered for the most part, but it looks like the marks will remain for a long time. I reached out to the hotel about it and they told me they'd get back to me. Two weeks later, I've got no response. Thanks for the worst hotel experience of my lifetime.

Yelp
We went there to hear music in the lounge area. Unfortunately we Didn't have dinner there m.

Yelp
This is a place to put on your bucket list. The rooms are very nice . The staff very nice and helpful. Rooms are ada friendly. The whole place is dog friendly and very clean. The breakfast they serve is delicious. The light display is amazing and very safe . Security and police everywhere. Please come here at least once. If not to stay in hotel go for the Xmas lights

Christine G.

Yelp
There were seven of us in a party of family and friends. The staff were friendly and helpful with everything we needed. We ate all our meals at their restaurant, which was great. I enjoyed walking around the property, and we all enjoyed the nursery and huge Christmas store. The location is great with lots to do if you want to. Overall a great place to stay.

Kim C.

Yelp
1. Room was musky and moldy. 2. Walls are thin. We couldn't get a good night's rest because we could hear people talking and walking upstairs and heavy footsteps vibrating throughout the room. 3. Water in the shower was low pressure it was hard taking a shower. 4. No ice machine available in the complex they gave us, we had to walk across the street and ask the bartender at the bar.

Patricia J.

Yelp
We love this place and we just left a 4 night stay that was spectacular! We love the dinners and funky music, the gardens and the wonderful staff Julia the bartender in the lodge make a great martini and Taj at the front desk was helpful friendly and informative. Our room had a King bedroom and a Murphy bed in the front room. We needed an Ada room and the bathroom shower was perfect. The nursery and gardens at the lodge are prepping for the Holiday fairs and it looks great even unplugged. Can't wait for our next visit

Yelp
It was crowded at arrival a long line at check in a day after Christmas but move fast. They also send you an online check in that made the process faster. They give you the package that will include the parking pass, wristbands for the lights and the breakfast pass. Very organized and fast service. We called to requested extra towel and to come unlock the Murphy bed and they arrived super fast. The king bed was comfortable and room is spacious. Overall was a great experience.

Yelp
The music in the bar area is not as good as in previous years, although there is live music every night. The food is ok. One night, there was a full blown fist fight! Music, alcohol and fights. What more could a tourist ask for?

Yelp
The room was cozy. Fireplaces are the only thing that heat a room so it's a little bit cold. Nice lady at check in.

Yelp
This is a lovely lodge to stay. One of a few places where it hits all the high points. The grounds are beautiful - take the time to walk the grounds and explore, it's totally worth it! The rooms are large and comfortable, -really enjoyed having the separate living room and sleeping room. Food is delicious and if you book directly with the lodge you get free breakfast -which is plentiful and with good options. For added fun the lodge has nightly music which was a blast! And on Fridays pizzas outdoors with music. So three things I'm going to say about this place to consider. 1. Walls are thin. If you stay in a downstairs room you will very clearly hear footsteps from the upstairs bedroom. 2. Rooms should be cleaned daily. That's part of the guest experience that when you come back to the room the beds are made, it's tidy and there are fresh towels. 3. The pets - I understand that folks like to take pets on trips but allowing pets in the restaurant is not ok. It does not consider the other guests who may have allergies or don't want pet hair flying around while they eat. Aside from that I would highly recommend a stay here. A bonus, during Christmas this lodge puts on an incredible Christmas light show and one not to be missed. We will absolutely be back.

Yelp
We just moved here last month and had heard nice things about the bar and happy hour and such. So we decided to check it out today... We walked in and the music was loud so we decided to sit at the bar so we could be next to each other and have a conversation... So sat down at the left end of the bar and moved the dirty food plates that had been left there and waited for service... about ten minutes later the bartender came over finally but did not ask for our order.. He said.. "are you going to be staying." I said "yes." He told us that the seats we were in were reserved... and we could not stay there... I asked if you could reserve seats at the bar... and he said... "if you are friends of friends." I guess implying that we certainly were not that... He could have been kind and explained... tried to move us to a table and guaranteed service... but no... I said we would go elsewhere to another establishment that appreciated our business... and he gave us a dismissive "have a nice day." Did not care at all... I really have not been treated so rudely by hospitality staff ever...

Yelp
We've been there several times and we are always happy with service and venue. The bar and restaurant are outstanding and the area is awesome a country setting. The area has many dining options and places to visit.

Yelp
Great stay for first timer Cambria visitors. Dal at the front desk was awesome and helpful! There was a minor issue with our room and the staff went above and beyond to make it right WOW! Fun trails and cool things to do on the property (pool/ live music/ exploring). The nursery across the street was super cool lots of eclectic things. Overall highly recommend overall a great first taste of Cambria!

Yelp
Not so happy with the room. No refrigerator or microwave. Very old heater in the wall. Be afraid to leave it on overnight. Breakfast was included which was very good. Had a fireplace with a duraflame log (1). You can buy more for $3.00 each. Probably won't stay here again.

Yelp
I stayed the night on 4/26/2025. I really like the setting and how it gives the feeling of staying at a cabin in a forest. The issues I had were the front desk service was rude, our room's telephones did not work and our cells barely worked, we were missing a extra blanket and got interrogated why we needed a new one, they had a wedding that was bumping music until 11pm, and then the (included) buffet breakfast in the morning was hella crowded without an option to take the food back to the room due to the lack of indoor seating, with outdoor seating limited because it rained overnight. The 11pm music really angered me the most since I am a light sleeper that goes to bed early to get up at 5am to workout. I get music going to 10; I can get away with close to 7 hours, but not less than 6. I notified the front desk by text message and they never responded.

Yelp
Nice place. I was a guest of a friend staying at the hotel for an event last night. All was going fairly well until a fight broke out where there was a few people throwing punches and some stuff crashing to the . Anyway, not the hotel's fault as a matter of fact Security showed up fairly quickly and seemed to deal with the situation separating the fighters. Eventually returned to normal. Terrible when some people act up and trying to ruin the time for others. I hope nobody was badly injured. Didn't catch the bartender's name but he was very helpful. UPDATE: after seeing the viral video of the fight that took place in the lounge from now a different perspective I take back what I said about it not being the hotel's fault. They oversold alcohol and there were so many people that were drunk beyond belief that the hotel should be responsible for everything that happened. Absolutely reprehensible.

Yelp
Me and my wife planned a quick getaway in Cambria and we got this place through Travelzoo. We lived in the Bay Area and Cambria is 3 hours drive. Our Travelzoo package includes free dinner and daily breakfast for our 2-night stay. We didn't arrive until 4 pm and the clerk notified us that our room was ready immediately. We were billeted in a 2 story complex and were roomed on the first floor. The room is quite decent and spacious with two queen-sized beds. The room can be heated with a gas-powered fireplace. It's clean and very comfortable. The only negative I had was that you could hear the footsteps from the guest staying in the room on top of us. It's a bit annoying if you hear them early in the morning when you're still in bed. The free dinner was for any meal on their entree. I ordered their prime rib with a baked potato. Also, the dinner came with a free bottle of wine. The wine is Moonstone brand and we got the Cabernet Sauvignon. The prime was very tender and juicy. It's delicious and a big portion. The wine was good and the right pair for our dinner. For breakfast, they had a buffet serving scrambled eggs, waffles, sausage, coffee, muffins, bread, fresh fruits, and oatmeal. The lodge is only a few minute's drive to Main St. This is a very relaxing place to stay and to unwind. To get away from the city life, Cambria is a quiet place to visit and enjoy a peaceful weekend.

Yelp
Second time staying here in the same year. Rooms are very clean. The staff is welcoming. The food options on site are good. This is one of the better places to stay when visiting Cambria. Locals come to the lounge often. This is truly a town that treats tourists like locals. The lodge is quiet and scenic. The complimentary breakfast is tasty with plenty of options. Short drive to the beach and you can walk to downtown area. We plan to return during the holidays for their Christmas marketplace.

Yelp
I have mix feelings about this place. Location is beautiful, and the rooms are large. Pool is nice and heated, jacuzzi was out of service but the water was still very warm and it was enough for us to enjoy it. Restaurant staff are very friendly, specially Jackie a server from the lodge restaurant. She went above and beyond nice, while working by herself. Food was really good and so the drinks well made. They also have life music, the sing was amazing. On our last day, we went to the front desk to ask for creamers at 5 am. The guy refused to walk a few steps to get it ( restaurant is on the side of the front desk). Later on we found out that we got charged extra for having kids that was entered with wrong ages at the website. We booked a room with extra beds and $20 was charged for kids between 8-13. We brought it up to the front desk ( at this time was a lady), who was very short with us. Even after we told her that it is against policy and against the law. Not going to argue for $20 after paying $600 for two nights, not worth my time. Even if it was for some purpose other than just charged, we got not explanation besides the ages were entered wrong. Room is outdated and we found spiderwebs inside and outside. Also careful drink with the disposal cups that are placed in the rooms, housekeepers running around ( probably short on staff) ,with a small low cart ( few inches from the floor), were they placed anything from cleaning rags to chemicals, all together. I don't think that we will come back to Cambria Pines Lodge again, we probably going to try a new place.
