A Hidden Luxury Escape in the Hills – Highly Recommend!
We visited Camellia Hills by Teardrop on a weekday, travelling in our personal vehicle. Highly recommend making a prior reservation— the property team will call and guide you through the process. There are multiple routes to reach the villa; we took the Kalugala Road via Lakshapana and Upper Aberdeen, a beautiful and scenic drive. You can also travel via Hatton → Maskeliya, but avoid following Google Maps blindly as it may lead to congested or confusing paths. Best to call the team for accurate directions.
The property itself is exceptional— only five rooms, always occupied, so book early. Try requesting the ground-floor room near the infinity pool; it opens up to the mountains and the Castlereagh Reservoir, giving the best views.
Staff are extremely friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful. The food is à la carte and absolutely delicious. The 4m deep infinity pool overlooking the reservoir is not heated, but the experience is refreshing and unique.
Rooms are spacious, well-designed, and air-conditioned. During rainy days there may be slight mud (keech)and leeches, but the team provides boots, protection kits, and sprays.
Plenty of activities available— boat rides, bird watching, tea experiences, hikes to the Adam’s Peak viewpoint, night trekking safaris, and more. A special mention to Chamara, the naturalist— humble, knowledgeable, and truly passionate.
Foreign guests can also reach the property by seaplane, as it has a private landing dock— the flight from Colombo is under an hour and offers stunning hill-country views.
Highly recommended for anyone seeking peace, luxury, and nature in one place.
