Camellia Hills, Dickoya, near Hatton, Sri Lanka - Explore & Book

"The location of Camellia Hills is exceptional, the dramatic, panoramic vistas some of the most striking and inspirational in all of Sri Lanka. Perched on a tea-flanked hillside near Hatton overlooking Castlereagh Lake, a mirror-still reservoir, it surveys almost the entire valley and surrounding mountains. Tempting though it is to just sink into a chair and stay put, drinking in the island-dotted lake and pea-green field vistas, this is also a place for adventure – you can visit tea factories, temples and colonial sights, trek to waterfalls, scale Adam’s Peak, or simply walk and picnic amidst tea fields. The hotel itself is a contemporary bungalow built in consideration of how a tea planter might live today. Butlers attend to guests, serving home-cooked meals, drinks and snacks, yet there are no airs and graces. The atmosphere is relaxing and warm, and the intimate nature of the hotel means you’ll often get chatting to other guests, perhaps when sipping G&Ts around the crackling fire. And at the end of the evening, you get to retire to a beautiful bedroom, sleep deeply in a four-poster bed, and awake to those views again. Deeply relaxing. Highs Breathtaking views, even when the clouds descend. Plus, it’s pin-drop peaceful We loved the romantic rooms, with their contemporary styling and four-poster beds You can walk out across tea fields directly from the hotel, or visit nearby tea factories Rates are all-inclusive and meals are a la carte; choose from superb Sri Lankan or European dishes Excellent service from kind staff, and a convivial atmosphere in the lounge Lows Be aware that the climate is cool up here and rain is common (classic of the tea country) Not an easy place to reach (4-5 hrs from Colombo, 2 hrs from Nuwara Eliya) Not cheap but all drinks, food and snacks are included – and you get a lot of it! The pool is unheated, so swimming can be chilly, but you can't beat the view Remote (18km from shops), and the dirt track leading to the hotel is very bumpy and can be treacherous in heavy rain" - Emma Boyle

We visited Camellia Hills in June 2025 and had a truly extraordinary stay. The location is stunning and the view from the hotel is amazing. The room was very well appointed, mixing contemporary comfort with colonial charm. The staff were extremely friendly and hospitable, and made us feel like honored guests in a private home. They regularly went the extra mile to ensure our stay was comfortable. The food was excellent, with a wide variety of local and international choices, and we were always well-fed. The scenic boat ride on the reservoir, which the hotel offered as one of the Activities & Experiences, was well organized and a great way to see more of the beautiful location.

We have just had the most wonderful 3 days at the property. Visited with our two children, and they have a perfect family room. Very quiet and peaceful, and we feel totally relaxed. So well looked after by the team, nothing was too much trouble. The food was so delicious, would recommend the cooking demonstration! We hope to be back one day!

The peaceful, quiet and luxury boutique hotel over looking the Castlereagh reservoir. Amazing food with a variety for each meal including veg options. Friendly and efficient staff where they will take any requirement we have. Loads of places to visit around and hike. Luxury spacious room over looking the reservoir. Would highly recommend

Stunning property with breath taking views. This place was run like a well oiled machine. They seemed to have a solid process in place which helped the staff confidently perform each of their duties. There is a notable difference between the staff of Teardrop Vs other hotel chains. Although most Sri lankan hotel staff are very friendly and accommodating they lack professionalism and confidence which Teardrop seems to have nailed. The food was fabulous (Kudos to the chef) the watalappam was the best I’ve had. |We stayed in the Dikoya suite on the lower level and the space was lovely with beautiful views. Loved the hiking trails and the app which was very helpful. Azad and Manoj were the key individuals mostly in touch with us and they were nothing short of amazing. Infact all of the staff, from the security guard were great. |My only call out is to extended the cocktail menu as it was limited although what we ordered was made very well.

Our stay at Camellia Hills was an absolute delight from start to finish. Nestled among lush greenery with sweeping views of the misty mountains, the property offers a peaceful and luxurious retreat. The rooms were elegant and cozy, the meals were outstanding, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Whether it was sharing laughter over meals, enjoying a quiet moment with a glass of wine, or simply soaking in the view, every moment felt special. A perfect place to relax, reconnect, and unwind — we’re already looking forward to our next visit.

We stayed at Camellia Hills over the weekend and absolutely loved it. The service was top-notch—warm, attentive, and genuine. The views over the reservoir were stunning, and the whole place had such a vibe. The food was delicious, and the rooms were super comfortable. We’d definitely recommend staying at least two nights to truly enjoy everything they offer—there’s a lot to do and experience!

Excellent stay. Service was top notch as we have now come to expect with Teardrop, room was large and well appointed. View was stunning over the reservoir and the food was tasty and plentiful (sometimes too much!). The naturalist being on site was an added bonus and we enjoyed the night walk through the property. Would definitely return.
