Our stay at Camino Verde Bed & Breakfast in Monteverde was wonderful overall, and the Deluxe Apartment turned out to be one of the most comfortable and thoughtfully designed accommodations we found in the area.
We opted for the apartment room that is about 50 meters from the lobby in a small stand alone 1 bedroom house. It was spacious, bright, and tastefully decorated, with a welcoming blend of modern comfort and local charm. We enjoyed the extra space, especially having a separate living area. The bed was very comfortable, and the sofa-bed in the living area would be ideal for small families. The apartment’s layout gave it more of a “home-away-from-home” feel than a typical hotel room. The unit also has some fun touches, a standup video game system preloaded with hundreds of classic video games, a Nintendo game system, a turntable and classic rock vinyl, and a diorama of vintage cameras. The wood burning stove in the bedroom provide a beautiful ambiance and welcome warmth during a lovely rain filled afternoon.
The well-equipped kitchenette was a major plus — perfect for preparing morning coffee, snacks or simple meals. We also enjoyed the little touches like reliable Wi-Fi, 2 flat-screen smart TVs, in-room safe, daily housekeeping, fresh towels, and eco-friendly local toiletries made the stay feel cared for in every detail. There is a glass water bottle in the fridge for cold water, but be aware it is not what you think of as "bottled" water but instead filled daily with tap water, which is completely safe to drink (unlike some countries). The unit also comes with private parking inside the fence that encompasses the entire unit.
Breakfast & Hospitality
Breakfast each morning was a highlight — fresh tropical fruit, pancakes or eggs made to order, and excellent Monteverde coffee served on the open-air terrace with lovely valley views. The staff were unfailingly kind, offering local insights, tour assistance, and a genuine sense of welcome that reflects the best of Costa Rican hospitality.
Location & Ambiance
Camino Verde’s location is ideal — just a short walk to downtown Santa Elena, yet surrounded by greenery and overlooking the cloud forest hills. That said, the convenience does come with some urban noise. Because the apartment is close to the street and adjacent to a small parking area, traffic sounds were noticeable at night, and during our stay, on the fist night a car alarm repeatedly triggered by the motorcycles blasting down the road disturbed the otherwise peaceful setting and interrupting our sleep. I was informed the next morning that there is 24hr security and I could have reported the disturbance to get the issue addressed. I suggest packing earplugs or if you are very sensitive skip the apartment and request one of the quieter rooms toward the back of the property.
Overall Impression
Despite the nighttime noise, we loved our stay. The apartment’s size, comfort, and thoughtful amenities, combined with the friendly service and hearty breakfasts, make Camino Verde one of Monteverde’s best values. With just a few small adjustments to sound control or parking arrangements, it would be close to perfect.
We’d happily return.
