I definitely want to start by saying that this is a great idea, could be really awesome, and we hope that it is successful so that we can maybe come back. I know I was probably a Karen and I honestly hate that.
Strap in for a novel.
We have a toddler who loves to be outdoors. We wanted to do car tent camping but with amenities to ease us into the situation so we looked into Camp Fimfo.
The first ''meh" situation is that I miscommunicated which weekend that we wanted to go with my husband. I booked the reservation on one afternoon, then the next morning I realized I booked for the wrong weekend. I went online to cancel and reschedule (there's not an option to just reschedule online) and I realized that they charged the $25 cancellation fee. I called to ask for that money to be refunded to me because I was just rescheduling, honest mistake. They didn't want to refund me the $25, like refused. I thought that was weird. All of us were probably thinking "it's just $25"? But in this economy that money matters and we were still planning to stay. Finally I emailed and they kindly refunded the money. Awesome.
So then we arrived, looked great and cute. There was a chance of thunderstorms all weekend and we were tent camping. This normally wouldn't scare us away, but we arrived (after we checked in) to realize the tent sites were in a field that was muddy from the night before and overgrown grass that we had to walk through. To be totally fair, the girl who checked us in let us know they couldn't mow so the grass was tall. I just didn't realize it was just a field of tall grass that we had to walk through to get to our spot.
Also our car had to be parked pretty far from the tent site and I prefer my car to be nearby. So we had to carry all our tent supplies and belongings through a muddy overgrown grass field to our site with a toddler. It's also hot and humid and we are all sweating. Not their fault but also I just want my car nearby. Sigh, right? Probably not the best. But we will still give it a go.
After hauling all this through the field and setting up our tent, we went to plug in our extension cord and our outlet didn't work. Sigh again. We checked several outlets and a lot of them weren't working. Finally we find one that works, haul all our stuff over (car would be nice here ) and set everything up.
Phew. We need to have some fun after all that. The amenities were great! Staff overall friendly, etc.
After a couple hours at the pool, I'm looking at the thunderstorm rolling in, and back at our tent in the muddy overgrown grass field, and over to my toddler, thinking "I don't think I want to deal with all this all night if the mud gets worse". I call the desk and ask if we can just pay the difference to upgrade to a cabin. We really want to have fun. It was around 6:00p - 6:30p. They said they didn't have any cabins they could rent to us that night because their housekeeping staff went home?
So, sadly I ask if we can cancel our second night (we were willing to give the cost for this night) because I just didn't think it was going to work out with the rain, mud, and tent. Nope! Once you check in, you can only reschedule, you can't get your money back for unused nights. Sigh again. We are leaving Texas for a few months and we can't reschedule at this time.
So we ended up packing all our stuff back up, staying in a hotel, coming back and using the pool, then driving home.
All that said, I know these policies are clearly stated in the fine print. It just sadly put a bad taste in my mouth and I don't think I could recommend tent camping here at this time.
