We spent a few nights at Camp Fimfo Waco in one of the Magnolia Cabins. Overall, the entire resort is fantastic in terms of infrastructure and atmosphere. It’s a super cool place for families, with so many fun activities for kids — especially around Halloween. The pool area and small water park are absolutely great, the pool bar has fair prices, and everything looks modern and thoughtfully designed. The cabins themselves could be amazing: spacious, nicely furnished, well equipped with everything you’d need in the kitchen, and a beautiful porch to relax on.
However, our experience was overshadowed by very poor cleaning and maintenance. When we arrived, there was a shocking amount of trash all around our cabin — not small litter, but large pieces of Styrofoam, plastic, and other debris scattered across the bushes and the porch area. The freshly cut grass had been blown all over the porch and steps, and it was clear that no one had taken the time to clean after the last guests. For the price you pay here, that’s really unacceptable.
I contacted the front desk via message, and they replied kindly and promised to send someone right away. By evening, nothing had been done, so I had to message again. A friendly staff member finally came by, apologized, and cleaned it up. But our neighbors’ cabin looked very similar — empty bottles, trash inside the fire ring — so it doesn’t seem like an isolated case.
Inside the cabin, the same story continued. The kitchen was supposed to serve six people, yet there were only three forks available. We found an old sock next to the bed — not hidden under it, just lying there in plain sight. That’s something basic cleaning should easily catch. The public laundry area was, unfortunately, the worst part: every single washing machine was full of dog hair, and the smell inside the laundry house was musty and unpleasant. It’s obvious that cleanliness and maintenance are not being properly checked.
It’s really a shame because the staff are genuinely friendly, and the resort itself is beautiful and full of potential. But if the management doesn’t improve the cleaning standards soon, this otherwise fantastic place will quickly lose its appeal and value. Also worth noting: we had three cockroaches inside our cabin on the first night, which was the final straw for us.
In summary: amazing concept, great people, wonderful facilities — but very poor housekeeping and hygiene. With proper cleaning and attention to detail, this could easily be a five-star family destination.
