7 Unforgettable Sleepaway Camp Experiences for Kids

"This sprawling collection of cabins set on the shores of a three-mile lake in Maine is a creative kid’s haven. Forget mandatory activities: every camper at the co-ed arts colony crafts their own schedule of favorite things. Options include more than 50 age- and gender-mixed activities and workshops in performing and fine arts, culinary skills, dance, sports, water fun, and more. Each week includes an off-campus activity and evening events bring the whole camp together. A range of program lengths, from two to eight weeks, makes it easy to fit camp into other family summer plans."

I only wish there were a way to give Med-o-lark 6 stars! My daughter came here sight unseen from New Mexico at the age of 14 for a 2 week session (She had never been to Maine before). She had enjoyed a one-week summer camp the year before in California, but in her eyes, nothing compares to Med-o-lark! She had the time of her life!! Unplugging from all devices, and just being a kid amidst the beauty of Maine renewed her confidence and boosted her creativity. She found everyone to be incredibly warm and kind. She adores her camp friends (they have become a little family), and they still maintain an active text thread, even zooming on her birthday to sing to her. They laugh a lot. She also loves all that Med-o-lark has to offer, and really stretched herself. With no prior experience, she became certified as a Stage 2 Sailor as per the Royal Yachting Association. She loved hot glass and stained glass making. Thanks to Med-o-lark, she also learned electric guitar (after years of classical guitar) and even wrote her first song! She even used her babysitting money to go whitewater rafting on the Kennebec and loooved it. The growth she experienced in so many ways is reason for every parent to consider Med-o-lark for their children. As a parent (with my child across the continent) I found Med-o-lark staff to be absolutely wonderful: responsive, understanding and helpful. My daughter has already recruited two friends, her 13 year old sister and her 9 year old brother from Albuquerque because she wants them to experience the Med-o-lark magic. She is counting the days till next summer when she'll return. I am so thrilled (and grateful!) that she has had this life-changing experience. As I said: 6 stars out of 5!!

Both my grandkids (aged 14 and 11) loved this camp. Fitted in straight away. The campus is beautiful and the activities are fun and fulfilling. Accommodation is great too.

My kids have been coming to Camp Medolark, their happy place as they call it, for 6 years now. My daughter Juliette, now works at the camp and LOVES it! She stays in great touch with her friends throughout the year and loves being outside in nature and surrounded by love, music, fun and incredible friendships. This past summer Camp Medolark literally changed my younger daughter, Cosette's life. She was incredibly nervous to go, after only having been once and during Covid. When I tell you that she didn't want to come home after 4 weeks, I am not exaggerating. This child, who was anxious to stay home alone, now takes the train to go to New York City by herself to visit her camp friends. She gained so much independence this past summer and made friends that she spends hours on end on the phone with weekly. You cannot imagine how many stories, filled with laughter that we have listened to since the girls have come home, they are both counting the days until camp starts in June. I am so thankful that they have both found this magical, loving, beautiful, safe haven away from home. They will never forget these glorious Maine summers. I am forever grateful to all of you for changing my children's lives, truly.

From the moment our daughter walked into Med-o-lark, she became a member of the family. Camp Med-o-lark truly is her happy place. When she is there, she is really able to be herself. Over the past few years, she has explored making candles, learning how to do Circus Arts, how to sew, how to cook, being a part of many musicals and plays, and truly growing as a child. She has made amazing friends. We are so happy to be a member of the Camp Med-o-lark family.

My daughter just finished 3 weeks and loved it. Great for kids who want to experience a range of crafts and arts with a healthy dose of outdoor life. Highly recommend!

My summer home! Love these place so much. This is the best place for the kids to spend the summer. They can make lifelong friends in the camp. I have been to many camps before but the directors and the staff are so good and they treat all the campers equally.

This is my two daughters' 2nd year. Medolark is a diverse, open, fun, peaceful, artsy, camp were making friends and memories is the most important thing. Both my girls had the time of their lives, they have some many friends and they are in constant communication during the year. The owners and administration are open, caring and always available to help the kids and the parents.. we see our selves returning to Medolark every year until they grow up!

Amazing camp experience. Scott and his staff are world-class. From the location to the food, your child will be well cared for. Our daughter is there for her 4th year and Med O Lark is one of the only camps operating during the pandemic. The logistical undertaking was massive and the Med O Lark family pushed forward to offer an amazing experience for kids from all over the US to be kids and take a break from the "grown up" pressures associated with controlling spread. Absolutely could not recommend this camp any more. If I could give more than 5 starts I gladly would!! Don't miss out.
